How many times are we promised something at work only to never see it come to life?

Our workplaces love to promise us raises, promotions, benefits, and company trips, but to have them actually keep their word is a whole different challenge that many employees give up on at some point. There is only so much "maybe next quarter" one can accept before realizing it is simply never going to happen.

It is one thing not to get what you were promised, and a whole other thing to get the exact opposite. An employee can deal with the disappointment of not getting the raise they were asking for, but how are they expected to react when their promised pay raise turns into a pay cut? What are they supposed to do then?

That is the question the veterinarian in the story below is asking themselves at this moment. They have been working at this clinic for almost a decade, even though they work extra hard due to constant understaffing. Their benefits are not up to industry standards, they work weekends and barely get any vacation days during the year, but they like the job and the people, so the only thing that they ask for is a pay raise.

A few months ago, this vet's boss told them that they had made some changes to their contract, and promised those changes would lead to an actual pay raise. However, since then, the vet noticed that not only did their pay not increase, but it actually lowered by almost $500 each month. Betrayed, the vet confronted the boss and started demanding what they are long overdue for: more benefits, another week of vacation, and no more working on Saturdays.

When a cat chooses us, it's always a blessing. It's already hard to win the trust of a cat, so if and when you do - it's an easy choice to embrace it with both hands. But we know cats are very opinionated, and this one here? She adopted her humans, for sure, but very much in her own terms.

A cat dad started to get worried when his clementine-colored kitty didn't show up for breakfast one meowrning, so he started looking for her. He heard some noises coming from above him, and realized that the shuffling and scratching noises were coming from the attic. He climbed the stairs, poked his head through, and found not only his fluffy feline, but a 5-creature crew of tiny criminals that had taken up residence in his attic. More than that, the fuzzy felons seemed to be treating his cat like their leader.

It might not be just a coincidence that your cat got clingier recently, they could be telling you something you don't even know yet.

Cats are much more purrceptive than we give them credit for. Dogs usually get all the fame and spotlight when it comes to understanding things about us hoomans, but cats just communicate it in a different way. One of the biggest ways cats communicate with us is through physical actions, and if your cat all of a sudden becomes awwdorably clingy, they might smell some hormonal changes you're not even aware of yet.

They don't understand pregnancy the way we do - if they saw you with a giant, round belly, they would probably just think you're a giant, chonky cat, not a pregnant one. But, cats can smell when your body starts pumping out a whole lot of estrogen in order to move the pregnancy along, meaning that they can actually smell your pregnancy without ever seeing it. You also produce more body heat, and we all know how much cats love warm things. It's not uncommon for cats to start sleeping on your pregnant belly for warmth and comfort.

Don't take every time your cat starts cuddling with you as a sign you might be pregnant, but sometimes, it might not hurt to check. Although it wouldn't be the first time that we found out by surprise! This employee may have known exactly what he was doing, but that's the only way he was going to prove his point to his hot-headed manager.

Sometimes, your manager is not going to believe you when you tell them that their directive has not been fully considered. If you have a decent boss, they will hear your concern and go back to the drawing board to find a better solution. However, if your manager is like the one this author had the unfortunate experience of working for, then you might have a problem confronting them.

In that case, the only way to truly get through to them that their idea was, well, a bad one is to show, not tell. If they have no desire to listen to your protestations beforehand, then they don't deserve the luxury of an advanced warning. This author chose to comply with his manager's demands by copying their entire 40-person team on every single email. Let's just say that the vast majority of these emails did not need to be publicized to everyone.

Sometimes caring about your parents means asking uncomfortable questions.

When his parents quickly grow close to a 20-year-old and start centering their lives around her, one son speaks up, not to criticize, but to make sure they're not giving too much of themselves away.

If a cat is generally friendly, but there is only one person that she hates, then there has to be something very special about that person. 

At least, that is what we instinctively think. We always tell people to trust their cats. Believe the signs that your cats give you. If your cat hates your boyfriend, then there is generally a reason for it. A bad vibe. An incorrect kind of feeling. And if your cat is reacting like this, then you should keep one eye open. If your cat keeps running away from your roommate, listen to it, take notice. 

Of course, just like people, sometimes… cats just don't bond with some of us. Cats can love some people while simply tolerating others. And that should be okay too. After noticing the signs, listening to your cat, and then doing your own investigation of the person, if you find out that the person is actually cool with cats, then maybe your cat just- doesn't like them. As always, a cat lover could never resist the pathetically smol mews of a kitten. Meowing in unison and exclaiming their elation over their towel-covered cardboard box home, these kittens were extremely grateful when their mama cat decided to trust in the care of a human. After she'd proved herself by feeding the mama cat for several months, this street calico knew that she could trust this bipedal giant more than the others out there. This particular human was not only trustworthy and kind but generous enough to share the beloved kitty kibbles and a bowl of water on those really hot days. 

For that, this cat lover was rewarded 5x over when the mother cat decided to bring over her kittens for their own luxury spa treatment. 

An unlimited cat buffet and a heart full of love awaited these kitties, and the mama cat knew exactly what she was doing when she hopped the fence with each kitten, one by one, changing their little feline lives forever. All it takes is the TLC and affection of one human to change the mind of a cat, coaxing them out of hiding and into a place of love and trust. 

And when a mother cat with four mouths to feed learns to trust after a lifetime on the street, that is truly a beautiful thing. Behold, the video of a sweet mama learning to love again through the lens of her innocent babies. It's no wonder this calico went viral!

Not all of us see boundaries the same way, and some people seem to believe they have access to things that were never actually offered.

Neighbors do share things. After all, they live in the same building, so being kind, acknowledging each other, and lending a hand when someone needs help is usually part of the deal. These days, things we share aren't always physical objects. WiFi has become practically as essential as electricity. We might share our passwords or devices with our guests, but there's always a limit. Digital resources may feel invisible, but they still belong to someone who is paying for them. The access to it may feel just as routine, but once a WiFi network is locked, it's meant to be private, shared only with the people we choose. That's why we protect it with passwords and security settings. 

But what happens when that neighborly spirit starts treating the idea of 'borrowing' as a given in any situation? Today's neighbor story shows what can happen when casual assumptions meet a lack of clear boundaries. 

One resident thought his slow internet speed was just a routine issue, but he discovered he had been sharing his service with his upstairs neighbor for 8 months without ever agreeing to it or knowingly sharing his password. Now, the big question is: does this man have X-ray vision, is he some kind of tech genius, or how on earth did he manage to get the password in the first place? The most bizarre part is that his neighbor casually brought it up as if he were talking about the weather. He simply knocked on his door to complain about the speed.

Some neighbors share WiFi and split the costs; that kind of arrangement can work perfectly well when both sides are aware of it and agree on it. But after 8 months of freeloading, would you demand back pay, start charging them going forward, or change your password and cut them off without saying a word? 

At what age should a child be allowed to go to the movies with their friends? This Mom is just now pondering that question, because it's about to majorly impact her 13-year-old's social life. 

Strict parents make for sneaky kids.

Apparently no one has told that to this Mom, because there's so much going on with her, her 13-year-old, and her teen's friends. 

Right off the bat, it would seem that this teen doesn't have a phone yet, which is already unusual. A lot of kids get their first phones by the time they're 9 or 10, or when they enter middle school. 

How do we know the teen doesn't have her own phone? Well, we can infer it because the teen's friends are texting her Mom, not her. That's right — they seemingly have to ask her Mom for permission to see her. 

Weddings are supposed to bring people together, but sometimes they end up doing the exact opposite. When one guest list decision leaves out someone important, it can quickly turn into a much bigger conflict about respect, priorities, and where to draw the line.

This 28-year-old woman had always been close with her sister and was excited to be part of her wedding journey. After two years in a serious relationship and living together, she naturally assumed her partner would be included in such an important family event.

That expectation quickly fell apart when she learned her partner was not invited at all. Her sister explained it away as a no plus one rule, but made exceptions for others in the bridal party, leaving her feeling singled out and dismissed.

How do you think your cats would behave if you made them into social media influencers?

When we scroll through different videos on TikTok or Instagram, whenever we see a funny video of a silly cat going along with their pawrent's shenanigans, the first thing that comes to our minds is, how on earth did they manage to convince their cats to do all of that?

We've seen videos of cats performing circus-worthy tricks, we've seen them lip-syncing to viral sounds and pop songs, and we've even seen them traveling across the world on the back of their hoomans. Some cats simply go along with everything. And every time we finish watching another crazy video of an influencer with their pawdorable and accommodating cat, we can't help but look over at our two furry felines and wonder what would happen if we tried to do that as well.

However, any time we point a camera phone at either one of our cats, even if it's just to take a cute picture of them, they seem to know what we're up to, and they refuse to play along. It doesn't matter what they were doing; as soon as the camera is on, they stop. This only confirms our suspicions that our cats know they can become famous on the internet, and that they simply do not want to. There is no point in trying to get them to act out a viral sound or get them to do silly tricks, because they won't participate in anything they don't approve of, and it's clear they do not approve of the Instagram account we made just for the two of them.

Honestly, it is probably for the better that these feisty felines are not interested in becoming influencers on the internet, because the fame would have gone straight to their heads, and we are not sure we are ready to deal with all that drama that would have followed. We are grateful that we can still create some silly cat memes from the funny photos we take of them when they don't notice, just like the hissterical ones that are waiting down below.

If you lived next to this lady, you'd probably be done with her too.

Part of the joys of owning a home, not that many of us young people will ever be afforded the luxury of being able to buy a home, is the freedom to do whatever you want on your own property. Of course, there are limitations, especially when there are HOA rules to follow closely. However, within reason and as long as no one else's lived experience is being adversely affected, you should be able to exercise those freedoms.

Unfortunately for this guy, he just so happened to be living next door to a woman who enjoyed bending the rules of what it means to be adversely affected by those around her. For some context, this lady had lung issues and was often heard coughing incessantly. Let's just say it was crystal clear that her own recreational habits were directly causing these issues.

Still, this lady would not admit that this was the case. Instead, she was insistent that the reason behind her latest coughing fit was the homeowner's grill. She even felt justified enough in her frustrations that she went ahead and sabotaged his meal with the help of a bucket of water.

The evidence is there, the cat is not. 

Cats commit crimes with zero buildup. One second everything is fine, next second something's on the floor and they're already walking away. No rush, no panic. Just a calm exit like nothing worth noting happened. The evidence is right there, but they're done with it.

Getting caught doesn't change anything. You'll watch it happen in real time. Paw reaches out, object gets pushed, full eye contact made. They still follow through. Then they look at you like you're the one being dramatic. No guilt, no pause, just a stretch and move on. Absolute purrpetrator behavior.

Some crimes are small. Sitting on your laptop mid-use. Stepping directly on whatever you just cleaned. Taking your spot the second you get up like it was always theirs. Other times it's bigger. A glass goes flying, papers everywhere, complete chaos for no reason. No meowtive, just chaos.

Nothing changes after. Same behavior, same results. They'll do it again five minutes later with the same energy. You already know how it's going to go, and they do too. At some point you accept it. It's their house, you just live in it.

Birthdays are special occasions that come around once a year, meant to make us feel valued. They aren't really about gifts; they are about feeling seen, appreciated, and loved by the people who matter most. Small gestures can make someone feel incredibly special, while a careless one can hurt more than expected. 

Real friends do their best to show up for each other on meaningful occasions. But just as a small, thoughtful gesture can strengthen bonds, a small moment of carelessness can weaken them.
