A growing number of frustrated applicants in the Reddit community r/jobsearchhacks have started sharing stories about so-called "ghost jobs," where companies appear to run extensive interview processes for positions that may never have truly existed. One post from Reddit user @Millennium_Pi especially caught people's attention after describing a four-round interview process that included a brutal, unpaid assignment, only for the company to suddenly claim the role had been frozen after weeks of interviews and encouragement.

Part of what made @Millennium_Pi's experience resonate so strongly with readers in r/jobsearchhacks was the amount of unpaid effort involved. Modern job seekers are increasingly expected to complete take-home projects, presentations, personality tests, and multiple interview rounds before even knowing whether a company is seriously hiring. After months of job searching, discovering that a role may have simply been reposted over and over again can feel less like rejection and more like being professionally scammed.

The growing discussion around ghost jobs has also highlighted how disconnected online hiring has become from real human experiences. Some companies allegedly keep positions active to collect resumes, appear successful to investors, or prepare for future openings that may never happen. Meanwhile, applicants are left spending entire weeks emotionally invested in opportunities that disappear the moment interviews end, creating even more distrust toward already exhausting hiring systems.

At this point, many online job hunters have become deeply suspicious of companies that repeatedly repost identical listings every few weeks without ever seeming to hire anyone. Stories like the one shared continue fueling broader conversations about transparency, unpaid interview labor, and whether modern hiring practices are quietly becoming one giant test of emotional endurance instead of an actual search for employees.

If you don't want people to hear you arguing, maybe do it somewhere… private?

Feeling safe to do whatever you want in your own home is not a crazy concept. You should feel safe in your own space, and you should let your guard down and allow yourself to feel whatever it is you're feeling at the moment without being ashamed or embarrassed.

Being home is truly the best.

However, it's not accurate to say that your home is 100% private, since neighbors exist for almost everyone. Having neighbors often means that they are somewhat exposed to your actions, whether they want to be or not. It can happen when their kitchen window looks directly into your bedroom window, when the walls between two apartments are too thin, or when your yards are right next to each other, as is the case in the story below.

The neighbors below shared their story on a Reddit community after a dispute with a couple next door. Their issue was that this couple would not stop arguing in their backyard, then blaming their neighbors for eavesdropping on their conversation. This couple fully believed that since the arguments were happening in their private backyard, they were entitled to full privacy, but they forgot that sound doesn't necessarily work that way. If someone happened to be outside while these arguments were in full blast, they were bound to hear it whether they wanted to or not, especially those who lived right next door.

After winning £4 million pounds, or roughly $5.3 million dollars, in the lotto, this kid told the wrong people about his win.

Tuesday proved that cat capacity is more of a suggestion than an actual limit.

This heartwarming rescue story from Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit started with one terrified abandoned cat screaming outside after her owners moved away and left her behind. Tuesday was filthy, starving, confused, and clearly desperate for somebody to help her. A lot of people probably would've felt bad and kept walking, but this pawrent immediately decided Tuesday was not staying outside alone like that.

That decision changed her entire life in a single day.

Instead of ignoring her, they brought her inside, gave her a warm bath, fed her, comforted her, and started introducing her to the rest of the family. Going from abandoned outside to suddenly being cared for and protected has to feel unbelievable for a cat like Tuesday. Rescue stories always hit extra hard when you can tell the person immediately opened their heart to the animal instead of hesitating.

Being at catpacity makes the whole thing even funnier too because every cat person knows exactly how that happens. Nobody plans on another cat until one scared little face shows up needing help. Suddenly there's magically room for one more food bowl, one more bed, and one more furry little roommate taking over the house.

Tuesday seriously landed in the purrfect place. Instead of spending another night scared and hungry outside, she ended up with warmth, safety, attention, and humans genuinely excited she showed up. Some rescue cats really do find exactly the people they were meant to find.

As the saying goes, "plant a tree, have a child, and write a book". These homeowners can't bring their beloved oak back, but they can still create something new. Maybe they could use part of the money they won to turn a bad memory into a fresh start by planting a new tree, watching it grow over time, and creating new memories together along the way.     

The whole thing started because the neighbor didn't like trees being near his shed. He wasn't dealing with an emergency or any danger, but he decided to act impulsively without even checking property lines. Well, that decision totally backfired on him. Isn't it funny how impulsive decisions can take us to the most unexpected places? We really need to think twice before doing anything that affects someone else's property, otherwise we can end up paying a high price for it, just like this neighbor did. 

This story was posted by the homeowner on the Reddit tree law subreddit, where tree enthusiasts post their discussions. He has made an update on the case, since it started 2 years ago, and now has finally come to an end.  

Sometimes, cats just kind of… choose that they don't want to live outside anymore. And then a meowgical thing happens. The second they make that choice, the purrfect human suddenly appears in front of them for them to adopt. 

It really does feel like magic, the way that the cat distribution system works. You will be living your life completely normally, and out of nowhere, a kitty will appear in front of you, adopt you and change your life forever. Maybe you're on a walk with your dog when you get adopted. You can be on a coffee run when you get adopted. You can even just be sitting at home when, out of nowhere, a cat will appear on your porch and then never leave again. 

They come, they burst into our lives and into our hearts, and even if they gave us a choice, we would not want them to leave. Because if there is one thing that every cat owner knows is that we are the ones who are lucky to have them. Our cats could have chosen anyone else, but they decided that we are worthy, and for that, we will be thankful for the rest of our lives. 

Sometimes, it's the small things in life that bring us the most joy. We're specifically talking about small cats. I.e. kittens. They are so tiny, but one glance at them is enough to have us smiling so, so big. 

The smaller the kitty, the bigger our smile is. We think that this is the conclusion that we have drawn after years of writing about cats. Adorable senior cats have us smiling with warmth and appreciation. Adult cats have us smiling with love and stability. But kittens… no matter what they are doing, even if they are just chilling, living their lives, they are so silly that they have us smiling the goofiest, purest smiles that we are capable of. 

Itty bitty kitties have this superpower. Even people who claim to hate cats will look at a kitten and melt. Maybe they will hide it, but we know that it is happening in their hearts. No one can withstand the cuteness of a kitten, and in a world where we are looking for pawsitive things that can make us smile every single day, seeing a bunch of pawdorable kittens on the internet is something that we must do. It is actually not a suggestion. 

Is nitpicking a quality all bosses must have to land a management job?

Some workplaces insist on treating their employees like children, especially when it comes to work hours. Even though, generally speaking, most people want to perform well at their job and truly put in an effort on a daily basis, workplaces still assume the worst. They hire people with the assumption that these people will do whatever they can to cut corners and make their own life easier at the expense of the company; basically, treating them like elementary school kids who don't want to do their homework.

These companies are the strictest when it comes to work hours and punctuality. If your workday is from 8 AM to 5 PM, you have to clock in no later than 8:00 and clock out no earlier than 5:00. Under no circumstances can employees arrive or leave outside of the time they are supposed to be at work. 

It doesn't even matter if they are good employees who care about their job and do it properly. As soon as they "steal" even one minute out of company time, they must be corrected. Which is exactly what happened to the employee in the story below…

When the timeline is so glum and sad things keep tending to occur, we need to fill our screens with sweet meowments of kittens, toe beans and purrs. 

We wholeheartedly believe in curating our own feeds. It's possible. We know that our phones are listening, so we ask them for what we want. Every time we logged onto our ICHC accounts, all we saw was cats. And that was beautiful. It had a meowgical effect on our mental health. So, we asked the internet gods again: "Do the same thing but for our personal accounts as well." And once again, it happened. 

Now, our timelines are filled mostly with cats being silly and cats being adorable, and we could not ask for anything better. Actually, we could. We're asking it right meow. We are asking the internet gods to fill everyone's feeds with precious kitty cats. We think that it would do wonders for the world if everyone started looking at cats instead of anything else more often. 

Neighbors asking for a simple favor once in a while is normal. Quietly converting their apartment into your personal fulfillment center over the following months, without mentioning it, is a different activity entirely

My building's group chat is basically a never-ending thread of "Can I have a parking spot from 10:30 for a couple of hours?" Someone sends their parking spot number as a reply, the neighbor asking says thanks, and that's it. That's 90% of all the text ever sent over over 5 years. Sure, every once in a while, someone spices things up by asking for a little bit of spice they didn't know was missing before they started cooking. Or, sometimes the request in question here pops up like "can someone take a package from outside my door?" and then it's back to parking spot requests. So I am perfectly equipped to say a friendly-neighborly vibe between, well, neighbors, works great for everyone. 

There's a major difference, though, between casual favors and metaphorically making your neighbor raise their right hand and repeat: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

These employees got fired in an instant after making some mistakes they couldn't explain to their bosses. 

The hubris of some workers is eye-opening! 

Every office has that one worker who is like the glue holding the place together. They're everywhere all at once, they never miss a beat, and they seem to have the ears of all the higher-ups. 

None of these workers, no matter how deeply ingrained into a company they are, are permanently safe from getting fired. In fact, as you can read below, there are plenty of very small mistakes that can get you fired in an instant! 

Tipping culture is a very mercurial subject. 

Depending on who you ask about a 20% tip, you're going to get a few very different answers. Personally, I think a 20% tip is exorbitant, and I refuse to tip more than 10% or even $1 per item ordered, especially if the server only barely completed their short list of normal job duties. Many servers these days expect customers to basically give them a 10-35% raise for doing their job, insisting on big bonuses for the absolute bare minimum. In states where the minimum wage is $7, I sort of understand tipping pressure, but in California or New York, where servers make more annually than most tradesmen, nurses, or other specialized workers, the tipping guilt trip feels a little steep. 

Well, apparently, now we don't have to wonder anymore if we're supposed to tip or not, because this career server, who has worked in the industry for decades, has cleared things up on Reddit's r/tipping subreddit. If you're "cheap" like me and refuse to leave enormous tips, just leave nothing! According to this long-time server and service industry pro, a 10% tip is just insulting enough to make servers upset anyway.

In their eyes, if a server is going to be impolite and complain in the kitchen with the busboys anyway, you might as well leave a $0 tip. 

Buckle up, fellow restaurant enjoyers, because Pandora's box just split wide open online, and it turns out, Pandora ain't tipping either!

How would you feel if you just moved and you also just became blessed by the Cat Distribution System?

This couple posted on Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem that they recently moved to San Francisco, California. They're both huge cat lovers, and they helped with a non profit TNVR organization in Omaha, Nebraska. The wife was even on their board! One day after their move she was driving home from work when she saw a little void cat running onto the highway exit ramp. This little thing climbed into the undercarriage of the car and she was able to get him out and took him to a vet. She named him Axel, and he's 4 weeks old and weighs 1 pound. He got a bath and everything he needs at the vet, and she says he's very chatty! There were no other cats around, and no mama cat. But she's excited to be new in the city with a new cat. The couple already has a 5-year-old cat, and the two will get along swimmingly.

We all procrastinate. Even if you're a productive, focused person normally, we all have our days where we're listless, idle, and unplanning. For many, this could easily fall on a Sunday because it's your last day of freedom. Cats were designed for helping you procrastinate. The way they just enjoy watching you do nothing, the way they distract you from anything you have to do, the way they meow in your ear and demand more tuna just when you're finishing up that busy project at work, and the way they jump in front of your legs while you're walking so that you can't actually get anywhere. It's all proof that they're their happiest when you're enjoying them and giving attention to them and not something else. Animals get jealous just like humans, they want your love and attention instead of letting you do anything! 

What would you do if you saw a kitten in need?

People always like to think of themselves as the heroes of their own stories, but not everyone acts on it the same way. But this one? After reading update after update, we can wholeheartedly say - this woman from r/CATHELP is a true hero for saving this kitten. Not everyone would make the sacrifice. People might ask for help, drop the kitten at a shelter or a nearby foster - but taking a kitten in need, and a sickly one at that, and having all this responsibility put upon yourself is not a thing everybody would do willy-nilly.

That's why we really adore people who save kittens, especially when they truly take the time and effort to do so. At least after all this drama at the start of his little life, this kitten is finally safe, well-fed, in his forever home. Because every cat deserves a forever home, and we're so happy he's got one now.

What's the best way to beg for your job back right after quitting?

This job candidate, who recounted his difficult story to the r/jobs community subreddit, thought he was done with his old position for good. After all, he had been given a start date for a new opportunity and officially accepted it both in writing and over the phone. It seemed like all was in the clear when he put in his two weeks' notice at his now former company. 

However, only a few days later, he learned the unfortunate news that his offer had been rescinded. Now, he has to go back to the Human Resources department at his old job and plead to have his former position back. 

The crazy of cats and people is a purrfect match.

From the dawn of time, people had their crazies - the king's jester, the witch at the end of the village, the Florida Man. All are examples that demonstrate just how coo-coo humanity is. It doesn't matter the time in history (we're sure there were plenty of crazy people before written history as well), and it doesn't matter the place or the culture (it's an all-Earth thing). And that's why, when you really think about it, crazy cat people aren't that crazy after all.

There's a tendency in society to tag crazy cat people as legitimately insane - choosing to care for a bazillion of cats, investing time, effort, and money to make sure they're alright. But when you put it like this, it doesn't actually sound that crazy. Caring for cats that you love isn't an abnormality - it's the most natural thing a person can do. And you don't have to be a crazy cat person to agree with this statement.

And then you have the comparison to other such crazy people, who might be the legitimately insane personas we think about. It's not crazy cat people - it's the people who decided to train lions at the circus in the 19th century (thankfully illegal in most of the world today), it's the people who end up "winning" a Darwin Award, it's the people who… don't like cats.
