Part of being a responsible homeowner is taking care of all of your property. The grass needs to be mowed, the driveway shouldn't have any holes in it, the walkways need to be walkable, and your trees should be certifiably safe. 

No homeowner ever wants to remove their trees, but sometimes it's not up to them. There are times where the power company will have to come in and shave off a few branches if the tree is interfering with the power lines. That's not a big deal.

The great thing about cat lovers is that they'll always find a place for another cat if they really need to. This is where we introduce "Bernadette", the three-legged mama cat who met her hooman on a casual trip to PetSmart for cat litter. Bernadette was too scared to come out from her hiding spot underneath her bed. The employees told the woman that she was adopted, and then returned after only 3 days. That's not all Bernadette went through. In addition to the injury that left her legless, she also birthed four kittens (thankfully, all of them got adopted) and went through a rough time before she was turned in to PetSmart. With all the goodness in her heart, the woman couldn't resist taking Bernadette home to give her the second chance she so desperately deserved. 

We love all cats, but cats like Bernadette pull at our heartstrings a little more than others. She didn't deserve to live the life she had to. Being thrown around from family, to outside, to a shelter, back to a family, then back to a shelter. All the while, with a painful injury and being pregnant, it must have been incredibly confusing for her. All because some people view cats as objects.

Well, Bernadette is about to expurrience the high life of a spoiled indoor cat. Just her and her hooman, lots of tuna treats, and love. At the very least, that's what she deserves.

Which specific workplace phrase raises a red flag for you? 

While applying for jobs, you'll come across numerous phrases or bits of jargon that should make you think twice about hitting that apply button. 

For example: you know those jobs that offer a ridiculously high salary for seemingly very little work? The description will offer applicants like, 5 grand per day. Then, in the fine print, you'll see something that says that there's unlimited earning potential… through commissions. 

Don't apply to that job unless you're an extremely charismatic salesperson who can charm anyone they encounter. For most people, it means they're going to be making cold calls all day long, and only getting paid if someone actually makes a purchase. 

They could make 5 grand a month, but only if every single caller decided to max out their credit card. Instead, they'll be doing tons of work for peanuts.

There's no training manual for raising cats, but there are a lot of pawsitively educated folks to help you if you stumble along the way!

Being a first-time cat owner can be very intimidating. You have so many new things to buy and everything to prepare for a new feline friend entering your home. The first thing you need to understand is that, soon enough, it will be their home. But until you get to that point, you have a lot of uncomfortable time where you and your new cat are figuring each other out. In the best-case scenario, your cat waltzes into their new home and immediately feels safe to explore. In the worst case, it can take months for your cat to start to come out of hiding. 

Every cat is different, but most cats are likely to follow the 3-3-3 rule. They need 3 days to decompress (we all know that cats are not good with change), 3 weeks to learn their new routines (imagine moving in with a new roommate that doesn't speak your language - it takes time to get to know each other!), and 3 months to start to feel comfortable showing off their purrsonality. 

So when our cat pawrent wrote in Reddit's r/CatAdvice subreddit about his cats still hiding from him after 5 days, we couldn't help but chuckle because of how cute it is. This purrson was so worried that their new cats didn't like them when they simply just weren't given enough time to process their new environment. Patience is key as a feline pawrent, and this is the first step to learning how to deal with cats' (many) boundaries. 

There may not be a training manual, but there is a whole internet full of cat lovers with plenty of expurrience in raising cats. Thanks to our wholesome and loving kitty community, these newly adopted cats got saved from getting rehomed, and our inexperienced pawrent learned their first valuable lesson in pawrenthood: the pace of your life is now dependent on a tiny, fuzzy creature that bosses you around. Get used to it, embrace it, and you'll have a best friend for life.

Nothing can bring a couple together like a common enemy.

These neighbors already gained a reputation on their own for their frequent bickering. No, it has nothing to do with unhealthy levels in the community, as much as these folks would like to think that that's the case. Instead, it has everything to do with their inability to argue in a private place.

Yes, every time these folks had a disagreement, regardless of how major or minor it was, they elected to do so on their back porch, 40 feet away from the other homeowners next door. Most recently, they stopped in the middle of their fight to loudly accuse said homeowners of going out of their way to eavesdrop, when in reality, those homeowners were already outside playing with their kid long before the neighbors started fighting outside.

The homeowners shared their frustrations with members of the r/neighborsfromh*ll subreddit and were given suggestions about how they should get even. The truth of the matter is that it would be impossible for the homeowners not to hear the bickering, slamming doors, and dramatic behavior that these two combustible characters frequently exhibited. No matter how hard they tried to pretend that nothing was happening next door, the neighbors made it impossible to ignore.

The pet industry keeps inventing new products, but cats remain loyal to one classic favorite.

Few things bring cats more joy than a cardboard box. It doesn't matter how expensive their bed was or how carefully their hooman picked out new toys. The moment a box enters the house, it becomes the most important item in the room.

Packages arrive every day, but cats seem convinced they are all being delivered specifically for them. The contents barely get a second glance. The real prize is the cardboard sitting on the floor.

Some cats turn boxes into cozy hideouts. Others use them as lookout posts, nap spots, or command centers for monitoring household activity. A box can become just about anything with a little feline imagination.

Should a teacher change a student's grade after a parent brings in a better version of the project? 

A middle school teacher gave a student a B on a science project that was supposed to be completed mostly during class. A few days later, the student's mom showed up with a much more polished version of the same project, complete with fake moss, plastic animals, and professionally printed labels. She asked if the grade could be reconsidered. The teacher declined, and before long, the disagreement made its way to the school administration.

The moment I read that the mom arrived carrying a giant box with the "real" project in a post shared on r/AmItheAsshole by u/Eugene_Roberts, I had to laugh. There's a certain type of school assignment that somehow starts as something a kid puts together during class and ends up looking like it belongs in a museum exhibit. And honestly, the fake moss is usually the giveaway. No middle school student has ever stared at a shoebox diorama and thought, "You know what this ecosystem needs? Better landscaping."

What makes the whole thing even more amusing is that the assignment was never about building the most impressive-looking model. The teacher's goal was to see what students actually understood about ecosystems and food chains. If presentation becomes the deciding factor, then maybe parents should start receiving grades, too. Imagine report cards with categories like "Hot Glue Expertise," "Decorative Design Skills," and "Ability to Locate Tiny Plastic Animals on Short Notice."

To her credit, the teacher seems to have handled the situation with a lot of patience. Instead of shutting the conversation down, she offered the student a chance to correct mistakes and earn back some points. That feels like a fair compromise. The student gets an opportunity to improve, while the original expectations of the assignment still mean something.

The person I probably feel for the most is the student. Standing there while your parent argues that your project should be replaced with a shinier, more elaborate version has to be uncomfortable. At that point, you're probably not even worried about the grade anymore. You're just hoping nobody makes eye contact and the whole situation ends as quickly as possible.

A B is a perfectly respectable grade. And learning that deadlines matter, and that not every problem can be fixed by an adult stepping in at the last minute: is probably a lesson that will stick much longer than any science project. Even one covered in decorative moss, miniature wildlife, and museum-quality finishing touches.

The Cat Distribution System is always recruiting, whether humans apply or not.

If there were ever a textbook example of the Cat Distribution System at work, Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit would approve of this one. A mail carrier was going about their normal route when a tiny kitten emerged from the bushes and immediately decided they were the chosen human for the job. The kitten refused to leave their side, creating the kind of heart-melting situation that every cat lover secretly dreams about.

Unfortunately, the timing wasn't ideal. The mail carrier was still within their 90-day probation period and couldn't take the kitten home, no matter how badly they wanted to. As difficult as that decision was, help arrived at exactly the right moment.

A woman walking her dog spotted the kitten and instantly fell in love. She was so excited that it was obvious this little furball had already won her over. Better yet, she promised to take the kitten to the vet, check for a microchip, get her cleaned up, and make sure she received proper care. If no owner was found, the kitten would have a safe and loving future ahead of her.

The mail carrier already had a former stray at home who needed to remain the only cat, making the decision even more bittersweet. Still, they knew it was the right one. Sometimes loving an animal means doing what is best for them, even when it is hard.

In the end, this tiny kitten found exactly what every cat deserves: a human who looked at her and immediately saw a lifetime of love.

A landlady lets herself into a tenant's room without permission, brings a stranger in to look at it, cleans it, moves things around, loses some earrings in the process, finds a new renter, and then texts her tenant expecting a thank you, which is either the most confident property management strategy ever attempted or a very elaborate way to end up in courtThe audacity here is complex, multi-layered, pretty impressive if you ask me. It's not just your everyday entering without permission, which is already illegal. It's the bringing of a total stranger into a tenant's private space, moving things around based on her own personal preferences, and then texting about it afterward like she deserved a thank you. The confidence required to do all of that and still expect gratitude is, again, impressive in the worst possible way.Most landlords at least pretend to follow the rules. This one skipped that part entirely and went straight to letting herself in, bringing a stranger along, and cleaning someone else's room like she was doing them a favor.

Not many cat lovers would dare go after the affection of a feral feline, we simply know better. But this story's cat dad simply could not help himself and with a lot of patience managed to convert the feral feline into a cuddly cat child.

Reddit's r/Feral_Cats subreddit is a place filled with failed stories of hoomans who so desperately wanted to save a stray cat's life but simply could not handle the madness and chaos that can come with feral life. Even endless patience is not enough to ensure that you will have a loving and lasting relationship with the cat in question.

Meaning that much like the pawrent of this success story, so too did other pawrents have to come prepawed for the long haul and that there is a good chance failure will be the outcome. Yet, despite these odds being stacked against him he came out victorious, adding four more paws to his family of three cat children. What a wonderful win for cat-kind, for pawrents everywhere and for the feral felines searching fur their furever homes.

 

How do you handle an unhinged landlord?

There are just annoying landlords, and then there are controlling ones. They both are not ideal, but the controlling ones are definitely move-out-asap material. At least the annoying ones you can try to ignore. The controlling ones will invade your living space as much as they can. I had a landlord who let themselves in on their own accord for some bogus reason, and you better believe that was enough to have me looking for a new place. 

This family had a controlling landlord. They tried their best to simply live with it and try to appease the man. He was old and senile, but it was all too much. After months of him calling the cops on them for reasons like ordering a pizza, they had had enough. So, they were able to move out. But they weren't going to let him get away without facing the consequences of his actions. "He was the meanest man I'd ever met," u/Jazzlike_Advisor_633 writes on r/pettyrevenge, so he needed to learn a life lesson.

People always say that you shouldn't leave your current job without having something else already lined up. Not only that, you're supposed to hand in your resignation letter and notice only after you sign a contract with a new workplace. All of that to ensure you don't find yourself completely unemployed.

Well, anyone who has ever tried to look for a job while still working in the job they intend to leave knows that this is much easier said than done. Job search takes a lot of time, energy, and resources, so much so that most people would say that it is a full-time job on its own.

So how are you supposed to do both at the same time?

As we've said, we love a happy ending. Knowing that another cat is not in their forever home is always a heartwarming thing. But that's not just a happy ending, and not even a triple happy ending to all three cats - it's a far better piece of information, with hindsight of five years. If you're a human then you understand pain and also pleasure. The pain of waking up in the morning, or going to work, of the monotony of life. They do have a sense of justice for your life, because their life is dependent on it too. Their cute meows are the more precious things we can hear when we're feeling low and down, and their gentle purring can make us fall into a deep sleep. Though they may be chaotic inside, or even do midnight zoomies randomly, they still comfort and calm us. They make everything feel a little softer, more innocent, and like everything in life is worth it. 

Can you imagine being told that the vacation time you took, which you rightfully earned, was suddenly considered excessive?

It's safe to say that this is not how you treat a loyal employee who has been working with you for over half a decade. This man, who shared his story with the r/antiwork subreddit community online, found himself taken aback when, on the first day of the same annual leave he had been taking for five years, he was notified by a coworker from human resources that he needed to come into the office to discuss his "excessive leave."

For context, not only was this the same amount of time off he always took each year, but the argument from HR's perspective also incorporated the bereavement leave he took earlier this year when he was handling a personal family matter involving his grandmother. It was company policy that bereavement leave and paid time off were not one and the same, so we find it interesting that all of a sudden, when it suits upper management, they have deemed that they can, in fact, conflate the two. Not to mention, there seems to have been zero expression of empathy for what their employee has been going through with his family.

There are many sides to this story, and I believe both our parties are partially guilty for the overall mess, but it's nonetheless interesting to observe the phenomena. We all know a business owner who LITERALLY never worked for anybody and just inherited a large sum of money, which they invested in opening some random store, but not everybody knows somebody who upgraded their entire personality when they became an entrepreneur.
