Owning a cat is a special expurrience. You can't really describe it properly to anyone who doesn't have a feline friend living in their house, unless you show them some of these hissterical memes.

Dog owners get the chance to talk to other dog owners all the time because dogs are extroverted, social animals. They go to the dog park, hang out with other pawrents, exchange stories while their pups play, etc. It's more in-person and communal. We're not saying that the cat community isn't communal, but it's definitely more of a connection from the comfort of our own homes. Also, because having a dog as a pet is definitely more accepted, people generally understand what it's like to live with a dog in the house. But how do you describe to a non-cat purrson that you know which of your cat's meows means that they want you to open the blinds so they can watch birds?

Also, all cats are different and have wildly different purrsonalities. Dogs have different personalities and energy levels, too, but they're all dogs. Taco Tuesday just got a whole lot furrier.

Taco Tuesday only comes around once a week, which makes it the perfect excuse to appreciate one of the internet's greatest creations: cats dressed as tacos. It's a combination that shouldn't work nearly as well as it does, yet somehow wrapping a mildly confused feline in a tortilla costume is comedy gold every single time. Maybe it's because cats spend the entire photoshoot looking like they're questioning every life decision that led them to becoming dinner.

Then there's the greatest fun fact of them all: "taco cat" is spelled the same backward. It's one of those weird little facts that lives rent-free in people's heads forever, and it feels too perfect to be a coincidence. Whoever discovered that deserves a standing ovation... preferably from a room full of cats wearing taco costumes.

They were only thinking about adopting one kitten. The Cat Distribution System had other plans.

The Cat Distribution System has a habit of showing up when it's least expected. After losing their beloved 17-year-old cat to kidney disease last year, one family had started talking about opening their home to another feline, but nothing ever moved beyond conversation. Then, within the span of just two days, kittens started appearing everywhere. A close friend rescued two from the side of the road, a brother discovered four tucked away inside a pipe, and a sister found herself caring for a stray mama cat and her five kittens. Readers of Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit know that sometimes one kitten is only the beginning, and this story proves exactly why.

Looking through photos of the litter, one tiny calico immediately stole their hearts. The plan seemed simple enough: bring home one kitten. Then they met her in person and realized she'd become inseparable from the only void in the litter. Breaking up the pair didn't feel right, so the original plan quickly went out the window. Instead of leaving with one kitten, they headed home with two new family members.

The tiny siblings wasted no time making themselves comfortable. They settled into their new space faster than expected, started playing almost immediately, and even handled introductions to the family's senior cat and two dogs like little pros. Watching nervous rescue kittens slowly grow more confident is always rewarding, but these two seem determined to speedrun the process.

The happiest surprise came at the very end. Every kitten from all three litters has now found a loving home except for one, who is safe in foster care while waiting for the right family. From saying goodbye to a cherished companion to welcoming two inseparable siblings, this feels like the kind of ending every cat lover hopes for.

Usually, abandoned senior cats are one of the toughest types of rescues to deal with. Not so much because of them being hard to catch, but more so their deteriorating health makes them a hard sell for fostering and adoption. But this story takes that notion and flips it on its head.

Reddit's r/Feral_Cats subreddit is usually a place to discuss how to handle truly feral felines. The cats who were born outdoors, live outdoors, fight outdoors and are generally only patient enough to endure a gentle single stroke from the hooman that occasionally feeds them. However, amongst those stories we found this one which turned out to not be a feral feline at all, but a senior cat who had gotten lost or been dumped by her pawrents. Found crying for help from anyone who would listen our little old lady was scooped up by a cat mom of 2 who got her squared away in her home immediately.

The strange part is that when it was discovered that this cat actually had a mother who was contactable she never came forward to actually claim the feline. In what must have been a series of guilt driven moves the original cat mom reneged on her promise to pick up her pet and disappeared. Thankfully our rescuer was not phased by this development and went ahead and found the feline in her care a furever home that would be purrfect for her. Letting this once lost feline live out the rest of her days in purrs and peace.

 

Is it a kitten or a ragdoll?

That's the question on the minds of cat lovers on TikTok right now after seeing sweet little itty-bitty Dan. This tiny orange kitten has big 'ole eyes and a lot to say. However, he has nowhere he wants to go, other than into your heart. The little guy refuses to walk. His human has done the research, gone to the vet, and still has no idea what's wrong with him. He either has something neurological going on that they will have to check out eventually. Or he is simply being lazy and does not want to walk. 

Why walk when humans can carry? Little Dan is a chatty Cathy who mews and purrs with happiness whenever he's being handled, but his human is worried. She has a makeshift sling for Dan to be harnessed up in to encourage walking. It's just a little piece of fabric, held up with two sticks, and with four leg holes. She puts Dan in there and just helps to keep his body up while he walks, hoping he'll use his legs. His legs are moving and grooving, so it's not like he can't move them. He just really doesn't want to use them. 

The adorable footage of him meowing so loudly while he's in this ridiculously cute sling has, obviously, gone viral. Because he's an adorable cat doing a silly little thing. Due to his orange-ness, as many cat lovers already know, it's possible that he truly is just being lazy. Orange cats are notorious for being silly little mischievous things, so he could just be faking flat-tired-legs just so his human has to carry him. It could really go either way…

Kittens sometimes find themselves in the most bizarre places before they get adopted.

They say the Cat Distribution System works in mysterious ways, but sometimes - it pits a person against the harsh reality a cat is about to go through, even if they knew them beforehand. Usually, the CDS just sends a cat in need to the arms of a human who will give them the forever home they deserve, through adoption or fostering. But what if the cat was your co-worker and you knew them before?

Well, sort of. You see, u/BMFresearch worked in a factory that had some cats living in it - working as rodent reducers, and probably enjoying the heat of machinery when they wanted a cozy nap. But then, the factory was closing down. No more humans to care for them, and no more safe places to hide. What should a cat do? In this case, get promoted from a co-worker to a roommate, apparently.

This man wasted no time and scooped a cute little kitten from the resident bunch, and she accepted the promotion with purrs and snuggles. We love it when a cat in need of a home is on their way to one - where we know they'll be loved and cared for. And this kitten is no different. She's going to be the house's purring princess, we're sure.

Two are better than one, and that's very apparent when it comes to cats.

It's a field studied from left to right, from right to left, and the conclusions are clear - cats are social creatures, and they thrive when they have company. For some reason, cats have this PR smear campaign claiming they're "independent", "aloof", or "misanthropic". Every person who has ever had a cat could tell you otherwise in a second. In Reddit's r/StrayCats, a feral pregnant mama roams the streets alone.  This family saw the pregnant mama cat and figured she had her 4 kittens. They're probably about 6-8 weeks old by now, and they run around and play in the backyard of this family. They've been trying to capture the kittens to rescue them, but the kittens are turning out to be a little bit more difficult than expected. They're also trying to trap the mama and make it one big happy family. They've only caught one kitten and it's been in the house for 14 hours but he's not eating. He probably misses his siblings and mama, but hopefully it's the start of the rescue mission for the other cats. They're doing their best to take care of the cats despite them being outside. They see the kitten is terrified, and they're worried. They're going to try and trap more, but they turn to the internet for advice on next steps in the situation. We all need a sense of comfort, love, and belonging, and when we hear the slow and low purr of our cats, our nervous system has a meowment to calm itself.

The life of a cat never fails to surprise us. They seem to find their way to us and sneak into our hearts effortlessly, and that's exactly what happened in the story from Reddit's r/cats. A couple was at the river with their dog. They were on their way out on the trail and they saw these two adorable sibling teens. They approached with caution and did a little pspsps at them. They both approached fearlessly, but then they ran away after hearing a noise. They were probably 6-9 months old, and the couple couldn't bear to see them stay in the wilderness. They left to bring their dog home and grab the cat crate. They returned to the area and lo and behold the cats were still there! They spotted them and brought some food. As soon as the cats heard the food they came running and they were able to easily cat the two cats. The brown one is the boy, and the white and grey one is the girl. She's very sweet but more timid, and he's more social and friendly. They were inseparable on the ride home, and they put them in their bathroom when they got home. They went shopping immediately for all the necessary things to take care of them. It was clear that these two were so connected and really needed each other. 

Despite already having a cat and a dog, they couldn't just take them to a shelter to be potentially separated. They decided they needed to keep the two together, and the best way to do that would be to keep them as their own. One brave kitten picked the right yard to ask for help.

All three stayed cautious, but one little explorer was noticeably bolder than the rest, even if she never let anyone get close enough to catch her. A few weeks later, that same adventurous kitten looked completely different. She was wobbling when she walked, barely moving, and clearly running out of energy. Her rescuer knew there wasn't time to wait for another opportunity, managed to scoop her up, and headed straight to the vet.

The visit came with the best possible news. She wasn't dealing with an illness, only the effects of being dangerously underweight after spending too long trying to survive outside. Now she's getting food every few hours, filling out little by little, and spending plenty of time tucked inside an old hoodie that's been turned into the perfect dad pouch. Safe, warm, and full has become her new normal.

Meanwhile, the mission isn't over. Humane traps are ready in hopes of bringing her two siblings inside as well. Thankfully, both of them appear to be in better condition than their sister was just days earlier, making it feel like there's still plenty of time to get this little family the happy ending they deserve.

One kitten is already sleeping peacefully with a full belly instead of searching for her next meal. Hopefully, it won't be long before her brother and sister get to find out what that feels like too.

All cats deserve a human who loves them, but not all humans deserve to have a cat.

I've heard "Your pet is like your child" many times in the past. And I'm not denying the similarities for a second - especially as someone who's a mother to both a cat child and a baby child. But there's one major difference between having a child and having a pet (and no, I don't mean the biological one - my baby is not biologically mine… she's still 100% my daughter) - you can always find a stray cat, dog, or just go into any shelter and adopt a pet on the spot. Adopting a pet can be done on a whim.

I did it once, bringing a stray kitten back home because he looked just like my cat, and it activated me emotionally. But my actual cat did not take it well, to say the least. But not for one second did I think to stop caring for her to the point that she just leaves, just because a new pet has arrived. Unlike u/sojuicy's neighbor, who literally left his cat, Leopold, to fend for himself when his new girlfriend's dog chased him out of his very own home. That's a man not deserving a cat at all, if you ask me.

One thing that is the same, in my opinion, between pet adoption and having a child - when you take on the role of a parent or a pawrent, you also take on 100% responsibility. And it just seems that this is something that Leopold's legal owner is too busy to comprehend. Too busy with his girlfriend and her dog. The cat spends all his time next door, with the person who shares how much he loves Leopold and wants to officially re-adopt him, and the neighbor seems indifferent to the situation.

You know that feeling when you are halfway through your day at the office, and you think to yourself, "Great, only 4 hours and 40 years left until retirement"? Yeah, that's us.

My dad retired at 65 years old. My mom is still working, but owns her own business and loves what she does, so she'll probably work until we have to force her to stop. That's just who she is. Purrsonally, I would like to retire at 60 years old, but I know that there's a better chance of my cat learning how to fly before that happens. In this economy, I'll be lucky if I can retire by 75. Don't even get me started on our kids' generation.

So, if we're going to be stuck in the corporate world for another 40+ years, we might as well make it as fun as pawssible by bringing our favorite thing in the whole world with us - cats. Unfurtunately, our work won't let us bring our cat into the office, but we can bring the next best thing, which is obviously feline funnies (AKA cat memes). Every meeting is slightly more bearable when sneaking a peek at a tiny kitten gasping at an even tinier snail, or giggling at an orange cat with a milk mustache. 

The good news is that cat memes will still be around until we're retiring, if we have anything to do about it. So, as we continue on the daily grind, at least we know that we'll have a good laugh every day. Just that might make it bearable…. maybe.

Usually, feline fam, the last thing you'll find us talking about here on I Can Has Cheezburger is sports. But that's because sports and cats almost never go together. Notice how we said "almost never", because there are some rare occasions when the two worlds coincide. Like, the Olympics, fur example. Every year that there are the Olympics, we always find some of the best original cat memes we've seen in a long time, so we actually have to pay attention to them. 

There may not be the Olympics this year, but if you haven't heard about it yet, the FIFA World Cup is happening in the United States. Everyone is all of a sudden obsessed with soccer (or football, for all those Europeans), but we still couldn't be bothered. That is, until we found this hissterical post from Cats With Jobs' X account. Now, all of a sudden, we're interested in soccer because one stray cat decided to crash the game and hang out in a goalie's net. If they were trying out for the role, they probably wouldn't get a contract because all they wanted to do was play with the water bottles and chill on the turf.

Only after the opposing team scored a goal did the kitty pounce into action, which is typical for cat behavior - only move when it's absolutely necessary. The goalie eventually shooed them off the turf, but any cat owner knows that you can't stop a cat from doing what they want to, and by golly, they really wanted to hang out under that netting. 

Did the cat help them win? Absolutely not. But did the match gain a few extra viewers simply because of the adorable feline? Yes, and it was worth it.

Here comes Monday again, along with all the things that it brings. A new week, a fresh start, an opportunity to take life by the reins and do things that we have always wanted to do and never done. Monday brings that, or… more realistically, Monday brings on another week of chaos that we do not feel equipped to handle. Not really. When we wake up on Monday morning, the first thing we do is look at our cats and mourn. Once again, instead of staying home and cuddling with our cats, we're leaving them alone. And maybe they are happy about the opportunity to cause chaos without interruption, but we are not. But we have to do it. We have to go out and make money so that our cats stay spoiled like they are, and that means that for our mental health, we have to turn to the next best thing.

It has been an extra hot summer so far. My cat, who's one of those cats who love to sunbathe so much that she'll scream at me every morning, exactly five minutes after breakfast, to open the balcony for her so she can chill in her favorite sunspot - even she barely manages to spend five minutes outside before coming back in and chilling in the cool sink. Sleeping under blankets - another one of her favorite activities - is something she's not even considering if the AC isn't on. It has been too much heat for her very fluffy body. 

But it's not just house cats who are feeling the heat. Stray cats are feeling it even more. To an extent, they know what they are doing. They know all the shady spots around. Our building cats all gather near the entrance to the building, waiting for me or one of the other neighbors to open the door for them so they can chill inside… But what if you are a house cat who just so happened to escape during a heatwave? It's bad enough for a house cat to escape into a completely unknown territory, where they don't get spoiled with food, shelter and love every second of the day.
