Hot weather makes everyone a little dramatic. Even cats who love sunbeams feel betrayed by this hot temperature. And we get them. Nobody wants to be productive when the room feels like soup. And suddenly, your cat enters full melt mode until you turn on the air conditioning. They become fluffy puddles on the floor.

Summer chaos can wait, and the zoomies can be postponed. When the weather is this hot, cats deal with it in the best way they know: napping like the true nap champions they are. Today is for lying very still in front of the fan. And cats know that.

We should all take notes from cats. Haven't you looked at your cat during a heatwave and thought "same"? When the summer gets too intense, we should commit to the nap, like our cats do. Because sometimes, the only reasonable response to hot weather is to become a puddle, lying on your couch with the AC set on 75°F. 

The cone of shame is temporary. Emotional support cuddles are forever.

Just like we don't like (is a nice way of putting it) going to the dentist, most cats don't love going to the vet. Between getting them in the carrier, the car ride, the waiting in an unfamiliar place, and all the new sounds and people, it can be a pawsitively stressful situation each time. But, every feline is going to have to go to the vet at some point, and they will probably come home with the "cone of shame" at least once in their lives. 

If you thought the vet was stressful, then watching your cat deal with the cone of shame is especially tough. Felines rely on their whiskers a lot for spatial awareness, so when they can't use them, they get extra clumsy and upset. It's one of the hardest things you expurrience as a pawrent, watching them struggle and constantly request that you release them from their plastic prison. You have to simply tell them that it's only temporary, and try to calm them down as much as you can. Sometimes, though, the most comfort comes not from you as their pawrent, but from their best doggo friend, like in Reddit's r/aww community.

After getting home with a poorly placed cone of shame, this cat's doggo sibling immediately felt their discomfort and distress, and immediately went to hug them. The following pictures are heartwarming enough to melt even the iciest of hearts, so prepurr yourself for a whole lot of wholesomeness. This post is further proof that cats and dogs can be friends, even best friends, and some of the cutest cuddle buddies you'll ever meet. We wish this kitty a swift recovery, and lots of snuggles until then.

Imagine if our cats could call the doctor. After Thanksgiving, they'd be like, "Hello, doc? My hooman ate an entire turkey and is acting lethargic, should I be worried?"

Some cats are calm grazers, and others aren't. Especially the orange ones - in my purrsonal experience, they're the most food-obsessed little maniacs I've ever met. But it's not always the orange ones, any cat can be the biblical incarnation of greed and inhale any food within eyesight. Not even your hooman food is safe. I once had a cat that would pretend to get injured while I was eating, so I would leave my plate unattended, and as soon as I found them (purrfectly fine, by the way), they would run to our plate and try to steal our lunch. The kitten in our video below from Reddit's r/CATHELP community seems like he's going to grow up into one of those kinds of cats.

While his hooman's back was turned, the 2-month-old kitten scarfed down a nearly full can of tuna and started acting lethargic after. Like any pawrent, we would be rightfully concerned and immediately seek veterinary help. However, by the time they got to the vet, their smol kitten seemed to be already recovering. The vet told them that, for lack of a better term, he was just in a food coma. A very dramatic one, but a food coma nonetheless.

By the time they got home, their kitten had already rememebered that he was pawsitively capable of causing chaos. Running, playing, and back to his normal self. Ah, pawrenthood. Isn't it fun?

Every pawrent has at least one of these scares with a young pet. They did the right thing by seeking veterinary help so quickly, but we have a feeling that this might be their first kitten. Why? Because any seasoned feline owner would know never to leave a can of tuna unattended, even if there are only kittens around. Never underestimate a cat and their desire for a scrumptious can of tuna.

What does being a feline fanatic really mean?

We think being a feline fanatic, a true cat lover through and through, has to come in three stages:

First, you've got to be raising at least one cat. Sure, some people go full Crazy Cat Lady and adopt two dozen cats. But it's not a thing to be ashamed about whatsoever - if our lady and savior Enya, the angelic Irish singer who lives for decades in Manderley Castle with her 12 cats, can do it - so can anyone else. Low-key dream life. But again, you only have to raise the one and only cat to start qualifying as a true feline fanatic fan. Because if you don't let cats inside your home, and let them live as your fluffy overlords, that's not going to cut it. 

Secondly, you have to adore your cat (or cats) to a level where your house becomes a cat shrine, more or less. It doesn't have to happen overnight - sometimes it's a gradual shift. Let's say you adopt a black cat, and little by little, your house is filled with black cat memorabilia - little statues, posters, stickers, cutlery, etc. You might not notice, but your house might just turn into a shrine of love and adoration for your cat. And again, there's nothing bad in it. Having a cat-themed interior design actually sounds great, in our humble cat-loving opinion.

Lastly, if you're a true feline fanatic, your own cats are not enough. Well, not that they're not enough - every cat is a whole world of whiskers and wholesomeness. But whenever you're doing literally anything away from your beloved cats - there's always cat content online. The feline funnies we all adore and love, and make us laugh in the middle of the day, just because.

The Cat Distribution System keeps on outdoing itself with every adoption.

Look, we're not saying that adopting a cat has some mysterious magic involved in it - even though adopting a cat is meowgical in and of itself. But we're talking about the supernatural magic-y way of using the word. We can't really know for sure, maybe ever, if there's a supernatural aspect of cat adoptions that makes them truly out of this world. But we know for certain people talk about the Cat Distribution System like it's a real deal, but also… not real? Let us explain.

Nobody knows what the Cat Distribution System actually is, but it's usually referred to as the meowsterious body, entity, or shadow organization that makes all these magical cat adoptions possible. Whenever people mention them, we think of them like the elite secret agents in The Coincidence Makers book, whose job is to shape people's destinies through meticulously planned events. It's a behind-the-scenes sort of work, but it seems like they make it happen time and time again.

Take u/manytractorprojects's story, for example -  he was just talking to his partner about not necessarily wanting to adopt another cat after their senior buddy will eventually pass over the rainbow bridge. But apparently, the CDS heard it all and noted it immediately, flagging it for immediate action. And just like that, the couple finds a kitten that was hiding in the walls of their house. Is it a coincidence, or is it a meticulous plan executed by… who knows?

You see? This is why we can't make up our minds about the matter. Because if there really is a supernatural aspect to cat adoptions, it's very apparent, allegedly. But how could we be sure it's the job of the CDS? Maybe cats are magical creatures, and we were just blind to the fact all along? And if that's true, and magic really does exist in the world in the form of cats, do we even need fantasy books at all?

Cats and music may not seem the most obvious combination ever, but cats already have rhythm and empowering stage presence. Basically, they were born to be performers. Meowsic lessons are officially in session, and these feline musicians have arrived with no sheet music, no discipline, but more confidence than the entire band combined. 

These cats are the real stars of the home studio. They look like they are one meow away from releasing their debut album. Whether they are playing instruments or completely blocking you from practicing your instrument, sitting on amplifiers, judging your band rehearsal, or just loving the melodies, they are clearly ready for band practice.

Cat logic is not meant to be understood. It's meant to be witnessed, analyzed, accepted, and maybe photographed. Every cat owner has seen their feline doing something completely random and thought, "Why are you like this?" The answer is always: because they're cats, and cats are weird. Nobody expects to come home with a kitten after walking the dog.

Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit has a funny way of finding the people who swear they aren't cat people. This time, the delivery arrived on an ordinary dog walk, where one dad spotted a tiny kitten lying on the sidewalk. She was so weak she didn't even try to run when he and the family dog approached. Whatever his feelings about cats had been before that moment, leaving her behind was never an option.

He scooped the kitten into his arms and brought her straight home. While he may only tolerate the family cats, compassion won out the second he saw a helpless animal in need. The plan wasn't to add another permanent family member. Right now, the priority is getting her healthy, helping her gain some weight, and making sure she's ready to find a loving home if that's where her story leads.

The little kitten has already caught a lucky break. She was found with a tipped ear, meaning she'd already been spayed and vaccinated through a trap-neuter-return program. The family also plans to have her scanned for a microchip, just in case someone is searching for her. In the meantime, she's traded a lonely sidewalk for a safe place to rest, plenty of food, and people making sure she gets the care she needs.

Stories like this are a good reminder that being a "cat person" isn't always what matters most. Sometimes kindness shows up before labels do. One quick decision during a routine walk completely changed the course of this kitten's life, giving her the chance to recover instead of being left to struggle alone. Whether she stays with the family or eventually finds a different forever home, one thing is already certain: she found exactly the right person to stop and help when she needed it most.

The sweetest course of the meal always attracts the most whiskers.

Every cat is convinced dessert was invented with felines in mind. The second a slice of cake appears or someone reaches for the ice cream, a whiskered food critic magically arrives to supervise the situation. Dinner may have ended long ago, but dessert is a completely different meal as far as cats are concerned.

The approach varies from cat to cat. Some rely on the slow-and-steady method, inching closer to the plate one tiny paw at a time. Others skip straight to the dramatic stare, convinced enough eye contact will eventually earn them a sample. The boldest dessert detectives have no problem planting themselves front and center, making it crystal clear they're more than willing to help finish whatever's left.

Whipped cream has a way of bringing out everyone's inner purrfessional taste tester. Frosting-covered cupcakes suddenly become the most fascinating thing in the room. A donut left unattended for five seconds deserves a thorough sniff inspection. Even a single spoonful of ice cream is enough to send curious noses into overdrive. If something sweet is nearby, these cats are already conducting a full dessert investigation.

Confidence has never been in short supply. These cats don't tiptoe toward the dessert table like they're trying to get away with something. They march right up as if they're the guest of honor, fully expecting someone to pass them a bite. Every glance says the same thing: "That looks delicious, and it's only fair that everyone shares." Cat naming is a difficult deal, but some names choose the cats just as much as the cats choose us.

I always love a good dad joke. Especially when the dad joke is a literal cat name. I know that some people have a hard time naming their cats, so they end up with names like Cookie Jar Jar Binks, Elephant the III, or Rafi the Refrigerator. Cat naming is a meme in and of itself - take these four kittens with Hobbit names, for example. It's delightful. I also have a cat with a geeky name - she might be just Cassie, but if anyone asks, she's Cassandra Pentaghast (from Dragon Age). But I absolutely lose it when a cat's name is a complete joke. I love it.

That's exactly why I laughed so much finding out that @pizzaandluna's cat is named Pizza, after crying a little - because every abandoned kitten who's adopted makes me tear up. It's the emotional combination of being sad about the street conditions they had to endure, and being joyful for their happy ending after finding a forever home. And this orange precious Pizza is no different - besides the extra spicy sauce of the naming process. Seriously, such a healthy dad joke turned into a cat's name is one of my favorite niche comedy genres.

Besides, I really believe every cat person can relate to this strong pull one feels towards a stray cat they see, that they must take them home. It's all the Cat Distribution System's work. That's just how all of us cat people become cat pawrents. It's like I knew I had to adopt Cassie when I saw her. Just like this sweet couple knew they had to take that Pizza home instead of their original idea for dinner.

Having cats and babies in the same home is difficult, but cats are always babies.

I have a confession to make - since I had my daughter, my cat seems to distance herself slowly. I feel like I'm dealing with a classic situation of an older sibling who has to adjust to a new baby in the family. And I understand my cat - I was also an only child until a few years later when my younger sister came along. And I've been asking myself lately one question many times - how do I make sure my cat knows she's my baby? Because cats are always babies for their pawrents, and nothing will change that. For me, at least. But I'm sure many others can relate.

My daughter is cute and amazing, and… so is my baby. My cat is my daughter, the first one. And I love both the same. It is true, though, that my human baby has many more needs and requires much more attention. And all that consumes a ton of my time. A time that some of which would be dedicated to my cat - stopping mid-way to pet her when she blocks my path (but now I'm running after the baby who's trying to enter the litter box), playing with the laser pointer until very late at night (but now I have to go to sleep early, because my human daughter is a very early alarm clock I can't snooze). My cat was used to another type of routine.

But my cat always was, and always will be, my baby. Ever since she was a literal one-month-old kitten, saved from a stray cat mama abandonment, to now - when she's an older sister. Nothing will ever change that for me, and I truly hope I can make it clear to her as well. In the meantime, I'm going to drown my mind with some feline funnies, to feel better. Sometimes, when the CDS chooses you, it doesn't actually choose you. It chooses your dog. 

Usually, when we get chosen by the CDS, it doesn't leave any room for interpretation. We know we were chosen. When my kitten followed me home on Independence day, I knew I was chosen. When my husband's cat walked into his home on his birthday, he knew he was chosen. When this man's cat flew in through his window, it fell directly into his lap. But when the kitten on r/CatDistributionSystem walked into the home of her new owners, they… weren't quite sure that it was them she was after.

And it's their own fault, really. When my kitten followed me home, I never told her that I didn't want her. I didn't dare. She chose me as her human, and I accepted it. They told this kitten that they didn't want a cat, and she heard them, and she said: "Yeah, I'm not looking for a human either." Because the CDS doesn't always pair humans with cats. Sometimes, it pairs cats with other animals. And in this case, it was this family's Great Dane that the kitty was after. 

The moment she walked into their home, she went straight toward her target. There was no fear. There was no hesitation. Some would say that there was no self-preservation instinct- when a kitten this small decides to walk straight up to a dog this big, rubbing up against him and heading right for his food. But she did it anyway. Because she knew. These were her forever doggos. The humans just kind of came with the house. And whether they wanted a kitten or not doesn't matter. They got one anyway, and from experience, I can tell you - they will love this kitten more than they have ever thought they could. 

In a world where the timeline is filled with nothing but chaos and negativity, we really do need something soft to cleanse our eyes with. 

I don't know about you guys, but my timeline, for the past… six years or so, has been straight-up toxic. Something glitched in the matrix in 2020, and it simply has not been fixed yet. Basically since then, my timeline has been nothing but chaos and negativity. News that I don't want to see. Stories that there solely to rage-bait me into clicking them. Drama here, drama there, and just like with every classic toxic relationship, something keeps pulling me back in. Except, at least in this case, I know exactly what it is. It's cats. 

Listen, I was there before the madness of 2020. And even earlier than that. I was there during the classic time of the internet, when everything online was funny cat memes and adorable cat pictures. These things were always there. They're part of what made the internet so special, why people kept coming back. And that hasn't changed. Cats still rule the web. If you look closely enough, you will find the cute cat pictures and silly cat stories that you are looking for. They are just being swallowed up by the rest of the algorithm. 

And that's why we're here. That's why I'm here specifically, writing for ICHC. Because here, we bring you the things that you actually want to see. Who knew the cone of shame could double as a martini glass?

Recovery might not be every cat's favorite pastime, but these adorable felines are making the most of their cones. Whether they look like tiny purrtinis, fashionable lamps, or little satellite dishes, one thing's for sure: they've turned the cone of shame into the cone of fame.

What does a cat that has been missing for a month sound like?

If you didn't know, cats learn to meow from being with humans. They learn that being vocal gets them what they want. That's why you hear them meowing when it's time for dinner, especially if you are ONE minute late serving it. So what happens when you hear a street cat meowing non-stop? You should probably be at least a little bit concerned, because that might not be some feral tomcat, that might just be a family's beloved pet lost on the streets.

 TikToker @miijoouuu recently had to stop and chat with a very vocal cat out on the streets. She was on her usual nightly stroll when she heard some incessant meowing. Like, loud and nonstop, which is very bizarre behavior for a street cat. Usually, they want to stay quiet and stealthy. So, she decided to go and inspect. She found a skinny orange cat, loafed up in the dirt, meowing for help. 

When she approached the cat, they were very friendly and kept meowing. This is when she realized something was definitely wrong. This was not a wild cat thriving in the wild, this had to be somebody's pet lost and afraid. So she followed him, scooped him up, and then went to work on the apps trying to see if anybody posted about a missing cat in the area. 

Low and behold, she found a picture of a cat that looked just like him, but with more meat on his bones. It turns out his family has been looking for him every single day for an entire month! When she brought him home, both the family and the kitty were emotional. He kept purring and making biscuits and the family couldn't thank their new hero enough. 

So, if a cat on the street strikes up a conversation, you should definitely stop and listen. You may end up being someone's new hero. 

We all know that cats have "selective hearing", but how can you tell if your cat is just really good at ignoring you or actually deaf?

Felines are famous for listening only when it suits them. They're the kings and queens of following directions that they invented themselves and ignoring all others. Demands like "Get off the counter!" or "You're not allowed up there!" simply pass through one ear and out the other. It's part of the joys of being a pawrent, realizing that your own power is limited. It's a humbling expurrience, truly. But then again, there are some cats that can't listen at all, and many of them are pure white cats with a recessive gene that predisposes them to blindness and deafness.

After adopting a pair of meowjestic Maine coons, our cat dad from Reddit's r/cats community is wondering if his new kitty's previous diagnosis is actually true. One of the pair, Yuki (the foofy, white cloud of a cat), was deaf, according to his previous pawrents. However, now that Yuki is in his new dad's house, he has seen him reacting to certain sounds. So, is Yuki truly deaf or just really good at ignoring whichever hoomans take care of him?

This is the question he asked the meowmbers of the cat community, and as we would expect them to, they came to his adorable aid.

There are benefits to a cat being deaf. You don't have to worry about them running for their lives whenever you vacuum, and the 4th of July will pass by like a nice, Summer breeze. However, if Yuki truly is deaf, he will have to find a way to communicate with him that is safe and understandable for both of them.
