Only in Canada will people give a 30-lb. wild cat a harsh lecture instead of punishing it for stealing from their farm.

Any cat lover knows that cats, no matter how big they are, are still essentially cats. If you put a giant cardboard box inside a tiger's cage, they will not be able to resist sitting in it. If you give a lion a giant tree that feels good to scratch, they will scratch it the same way your house cat scratches their scratching board (or your furniture). But just because big cats still act like our tiny black cats and calicos, doesn't mean that we can actually treat them the same way. I'm not sure spraying a leopard with a spray bottle will actually deter them from doing something; if anything, it might be a one-way ticket to the hospital.

But, that didn't stop one Canadian farmer from scruffing a wild lynx that he caught stealing from his farm (thanks to @phantomdawg's post on X). After catching the lynx red-pawed, trying to eat some of his chickens, he could have hurt or injured the wild animal to "punish" it for attacking his livestock. Instead, though, he picked up the 30-lb. cat by its scruff, the same way you would a naughty house cat, and started lecturing it on its bad behavior. He showed the giant-pawed creature how scared his chickens were, and shamed him for his actions. Later, he drove the lynx to a different location away from his farm, and released him back into the wild.

Cats will be cats, and the guilty look on this lynx's face makes us laugh more than anything we've seen all week. Have a great weekend!

Cats are so weird, so wild, and purrfectly unpredictable - and that's exactly why we love them.

I've been a cat lover and owner my entire life. I grew up in a household with cats, when I was an adult I adopted my own cats, and I spend all day at work writing and talking about cats. You would think that I've seen just about everything there is to see from cats, but that's where you'd be wrong. The wonderfully whimsical thing about cats is that they always have some sort of trick up their sleeves, some quirk you've never seen before, or some hidden talent you thought previously impawssible. 

I've seen cats survive snowstorms in the depths of winter, and lost cats find their way back to their owners after more than 9 years. I've seen cats risk everything to give their kittens a better life and flexible felines folded into shapes that don't seem pawssible to the hooman eye. I've even seen cats adopting random animals, like otters, as their family, and cats becoming best friends with horses. But what I've never seen before is what this black cat owner's cat loves to do below.

His cat loves to hang on chairs. Technically, he is hanging, but we like to think of it more like folding his feline body for the purrfect upper back and lower back stretch all at the same time. To us, it looks pawsitively uncomfortable, but we all know that cats are liquid, so purrhaps it feels quite delicious to him. 

As strange as it may seem, we found out through some more research that his cat isn't the only one with his hilarious habit of folding over furniture! It's a thing, and apparently now we're purrmanently obsessed with finding cats that share this wholesomely silly habit.

Sunday morning allows a slow breakfast and plans that require little effort. Your cat joins you for the naps and the fun. Until evening arrives and Monday starts to appear in every thought, without letting you enjoy the final hours of your Sunday. Preventing you from the Sunday scaries looks like a job for your cat.

Cats don't know that tomorrow is Monday and wouldn't care if somebody explained it to them. Their week is organized around meals, sunbeams, and naps. Sunday is another opportunity to knock over the things you have on your kitchen counters and then sprint through the hallway. 

Feline nonsense interrupts the planning inside your head, and that's how it works to keep you distracted. You can't think about rehearsing tomorrow's meeting if your cat is trying to fit inside packaging designed for an object half its size. We don't know how, but they manage to get in anyway. It's difficult to start worrying about what may happen tomorrow at work if your fluffy friend is meowing at a closed door, asking for your attention, then deciding they're not interested anymore the second you open the door for them. 

Every cat has their method to keep the household distracted. Some sit on whatever their human is trying to use. Others decide it's the perfect time to jump from a high location without checking where they will land. Others will demand your attention even if the activity you're doing requires zero cats. They can also reject the affection you offer when they get tired of it. It's just when they want it and how they want it. Most probably, they'll want it when you're busy doing your laundry or any other household chore. They love being present for those. Cat logic is questionable, but their timing is excellent. Even though they can't help you with whatever you are doing, they are really good at keeping us company.

A routine grocery run turned into a surprise kitten rescue when one tiny "squirrel" made a very dramatic entrance.

While driving to the store one morning, a little animal suddenly dashed underneath a car. The driver slammed on the brakes and got out, expecting to check on a squirrel. Instead, they found a tiny kitten screaming her head off and attempting to climb into the undercarriage.

Catching her was not exactly easy.

The approximately 4-to-5-week-old kitten immediately made it clear she had plenty of fight in her. Over the next five minutes, she tried to scale a fence, pooped on her rescuer, and managed to land a pretty impressive bite. Not bad for someone small enough to be mistaken for a squirrel.

Needless to say, groceries were no longer the priority.

The shopping trip quickly became a kitten supply run, because apparently the Cat Distribution System does not care what you originally put on your shopping list. Soon, the feisty little feline was getting her first flea bath and enjoying a lunch of pâté slurry.

With a full belly and the fleas washed away, the troublemaker finally decided she could relax. After all that screaming, climbing, biting, and general chaos, she curled up for a much-needed nap.

And what do you name a kitten whose first interaction with you involves drawing blood?

Rambo, obviously.

"She who draws first blood" might only be a few weeks old, but she's already managed to completely derail a grocery run and earn herself food, supplies, a flea bath, and a safe place to sleep. That's a pretty productive morning for such a smol feline.

The Cat Distribution System really went all out with this delivery: one tiny Rambo, zero warning, several battle wounds, and a grocery trip nobody is going to forget anytime soon.

It seems that no matter the age, no matter how many times they have been warned by hoomans and other cats, cats will always find a way to get stuck up in a tree and in the most inconvenient of perches. Making it impossible for mere mortals to get up there and save them. No, these kinds of moments are for true heroes and sheroes to deal with. And in the case of this story's stuck cat it was a whole firecrew of heroes who turned up to save the day.

Our story begins with a cat named Simba. For one reason or another Simba found himself atop a rather tall tree with no clear way of coming down. More often than not, cats who are on the run from something will make a move like this. But in their panic they will not check to see that the tree they are scaling has a reasonable perch from which they can jump down from later. And so from time to time find themselves committed to climbing the trunk of a tree that has no perch for at least 40 ft. A safe place to hide from a predator but not so safe in terms of coming back down. And so the cat ends up stuck.

At this point the cat's pawrent got a local cat rescue involved, hoping for a gentle hand and a low stress way for the feline to be returned to the ground. But as it would turn out the cat was catatonic and unable to move or feel safe enough to collaborate with the rescue's efforts. Leaving them with only one port of call, the local Fire Department. 
 

New cat pawrent was bound to find out one way or another. 

Sometimes the cat distribution system surprises us with more than just a stray cat looking for a home. This guy was at a brewery when he sees a beautiful young Siamese stray cat. He takes her home and then to the vet. Somehow the veterinarian's there missed something crucial about this cat, and that was that she's pregnant. No one knew until 6 kittens popped out: 3 other Siamese, two tuxedo, and one grey cat. He keeps the grey little guy and names him Grimm. So next time you just think you're having an after work drink, think again! The cat distribution system has no mercy!  

Cats need friends too! 

We're not the only creatures on earth who want a friend. Most species in the animal kingdom are social in some way. Even ones, like cats, who are known for being unfriendly, or introverted, or hard to predict are just furballs who want attention at the end of the day. They still want love and companionship just like a person would. Take this tuxedo cat for instance, he used to be an indoor/outdoor cat. He would be friends with other cats, dogs, chickens, and other animals. He was used to tons of stimulation, freedom, and engagement from others. Throughout the years, there have been tons of changes. The owner moves from a farm life to a 2 bedroom apartment, and that means the cat's life goes to strictly indoors. There's a lot of differences for this little kitty now that he's living in a 4 wall environment. The owner questions whether he should get him a companion since the tuxedo seems more bored than his usual self. The internet responds unanimously in that he should definitely get another cat. Our pets can feel what we feel, and they know when we need them the most. 

Cats and dogs have a reputation for not getting along too well. Even as pets, living in the same home under the same roof, they might not be the closest. And that's okay. They speak different languages, and although we, as their owners, of course want to see them cuddling and happy and being best friends forever… we know that it is okay if they are not. They just need to get along. It's okay if our cat prefers cuddling with us or if our cats prefer cuddling with each other. All we need is for them to be happy, whatever their terms may be. 

That was the case in the household in today's story. Two cats and two dogs, and everything was great. The cats and dogs may not have been the bestest of friends, but they got along. They just weren't all over each other. The cats preferred each other's company and so did the dogs. They grew up and grew old together. And then, tragedy. The day that we all fear the most. One of the senior cats crossed the rainbow bridge, and the owner's first concern… was for the other cat. His best friend was gone, and the owner was terrified that it would destroy their other cat as well. 

Except then, the most beautiful and unexpected thing happened. The same dogs that the cat had no interest in before suddenly became a source of comfort. Suddenly, he started going to them and cuddling with them. And the dogs… the dogs could sense that he needed them. Everyone in the house knew that there was an absence, and everyone was there to comfort one another.

When a neighbor hands you two soaking wet kittens to save, you know they came straight from the CDS. 

Cat people like us - we know about the CDS. Some people who get handed a cat by the universe don't know why it is happening to them. They see it as weird, as unique, as something that only they could ever experience. We, of course, know that this is false. It's not "the universe". It's the CDS. And the CDS works in meowsterious ways. That is why I have - thus far - only been chosen once. It's why my husband has only been chosen once so far. We're waiting for it to happen again, but we know that it is not up to us. The CDS will give us our next cat when it is ready. And we will be ready for it. In fact, we are always ready. And when the CDS finally calls our name, we will know it. It will not catch us by surprise. 

The person in today's story, she was ready too. She knew about the CDS for the longest, and she didn't try to push it. She knew that it would come to her when the time was right. And right when she was having the worst month of her life, a neighbor came knocking on her door with not one, but with two kittens rescued from the rain. The neighbor couldn't take care of them, but they knew the one person who would. And she knew that these two soaking-wet kittens in need of help were sent to her straight from the CDS. So, she did not fight it. Not for one second.

I know that change can be scary; believe me, I'm a Virgo. Whether you believe in all that astrology stuff or not, every purrson has some level of fear of the unknown. And especially in today's world, where things can change quite quickly, it can feel nearly impawssible to keep up with the never-ending march of "progress". But, change is also the catalyst for new opportunities, new expurriences, and new pawssibilities you might never have even thought of before.

LOLcats is part of the original founding DNA of Cheezburger. Many of you treat it like your safe space, an online community where you can communicate with the world's best format ever created: cat memes. Like I mentioned in previous posts, I've fought hard to keep LOLcats alive for many years. I'm not here to make excuses or bore you with the details, but in my eyes, LOLcats will stay active no matter what life throws at us. Where would the world of feline funnies be if not for your years of contributions to the internet? Needless to say, we're now pouncing because you waddled through and paved the way.

I know that the format change from a daily scrollable feed to a once-a-week dump can be frustrating. However, I'm choosing to think of it like waiting for my favorite series to release a new episode every week. It meowtivates me to get through the week with something to look forward to, and let's be honest, couldn't we all use something exciting and hissterical to look forward to at the end of every week? With the world in as grim a state as it currently is, a light at the end of the tunnel should always be welcomed with open arms.

How do you know when it's time to let go of your most precious pet?

Saying goodbye is never easy. It's even harder to know when the right time is to say goodbye. Sometimes, it's obvious; the signs are staring you in the face, and you are left with no choice. But other times, the signs happen gradually, over time, and are much more subtle. Your pets start to move a lot slower than they used to. They're not as interested in playing anymore. You have to coax them to finish their food, or even eat at all. They seem to slowly fade away, a ghost of the puppy or cat they used to be. But when is the right time to say "enough is enough"?

Sometimes you will feel like you're making the wrong decision, and it's important that you listen to not only your vet's advice, but also your gut instinct, as Missy's mom did. Missy is a 22-year-old sweet senior cat, and her pawrent got heartbreaking news from the vet - making her think that Missy's time was closer than she imagined. Friends, family, everyone told her to get it over with before she regretted waiting too long. 

So she made the appointment to say her final goodbye.

But as the days approached the appointment, she felt that something was wrong. It wasn't Missy's time, not yet. She called the vet crying, and they reassured her that there was still time for her to spoil her fur baby for more days to come. 

At 22-years-old, Missy will never "get better", not even a cat can escape old age for long. But, for now, pet and pawrent get more time to cuddle together, eat together, and make a few more memories before that time eventually comes.

Hugging your cat is the best, isn't it?

Cat pawrents partake in many activities involving their cats, with or without your feline overlord allowing it or not. What can we do? We can't help it that, despite them being the fluffy house dictators, they're also such cutie patooties you just want to smoosh all the time. Cats are the cutest kings and queens that have ever existed. Ones that, instead of bowing to them (or in addition - we don't judge), you kiss the little space between their ears. Instead of calling them "my liege" (or in addition - we really don't judge), you pet their little floofy bellies.

Some cats like to be hugged and some less so, but we all hug our cats to some capacity in the end. It doesn't matter how hard is their ruling iron paw, how sassy your cat is, in the end - cats are our babies. And that's the beautiful cat duality we all experience: they're both our undisputed monarchs and our teeny tiny cute babies. They both rule our lives and houses like no boss ever could, but they're also smol creatures that we spoil with many an extra snack.

And all that comes through in the most beautiful way in cat memes. They're hissterical, but also wholesome. They're belly-aching funny, but also "aww"-inducing. They're both silly and adorable. Cat memes are basically a great representation of what cats are - and we love it all.

There's something extra nostalgic about lolcats, especially if you've been on the internet for more than a minute. It's been about 20 years since lolcats appeared in our online life (when, exactly, sources differ), and they rose to absolute fame right here, on our humble platform of a comedic cat-loving website, I Can Has Cheezbueger.

But did you know the first lolcats date back to - get that - the end of the 19th century? Crazy, right? Apparently, cat memes were sort of invented by this one early British photographer from the 1870s, named Harry Pointer (which is so close to being Harry Potter we're mad it's not, just for the sake of it). He used to make cats pose for the camera, and when he developed the pictures, he'd add short and funny captions written on them - much like modern lolcats that we all love and cherish.

A little feline sweetness to make the internet feel less… interntet-y.

August is always a hectic and crazy month. A lot is going on… from the quietness that we have during those summer months, in which people leave to go on vacation, we suddenly have everyone back to work and school. Cities get crowded and noisy again, and there's too much information. As a consequence, people use their phones maybe a little more because they need to escape from all of the craziness, and unfortunately, the internet might not be the best place to find some comfort when you need it.

Well, it depends on what you do when you're with your phone. If you're scrolling through bad news and sad things, then you won't feel better. But if you make the conscious choice of picking something that you know is good and wholesome, than you'll probably going to feel the relief you're looking for. Now that we have so much more knowledge about the internet, we have to be more mindful about the things we decide to consume. That's an active choice that we can make and that can seriously impact the way we feel.

If you're not sure about what to look for when trying to have your spirits up, this might be a good place to start. Cats, and animals in general, do not have these needs to have their spirits lifted. They just live based on their instincts and are forced to be very in tune with the way they feel and the things they want to do. You've seen them: if they want to eat, they eat; if they are tired, they sleep. It's so much simpler for them, and there's a lot that we can learn and appreciate.

Ray started out as the kitten nobody in the colony wanted around, but he was about to find someone who absolutely did.

Ray didn't exactly get the warmest welcome from the neighborhood cats. The feral kitten suddenly appeared in a colony that his future pawrent was feeding, but the other felines wanted absolutely nothing to do with the newcomer. While they returned to the garden after meals, Ray set up camp alone in a little kitty house.

Then his life took a pretty major turn.

When his caretaker moved out of their parents' house, there was no way they were leaving the little guy behind. Ray was trapped, loaded into the car, and taken on a 700-mile road trip to his new home. Talk about one confused passenger.

At first, everyone thought Ray was a girl, hence being referred to as their new "daughter." A closer look during playtime revealed otherwise, and just like that, their daughter became their son. Luckily, Ray didn't seem too concerned about the mix-up.

The bigger surprise has been how quickly this frightened feral baby has started settling into indoor life. During his first days, Ray left his new pawrent with a nasty scratch and spent most of his time tucked inside a box fort behind the bathtub. He initially waited until nighttime to venture out and play.

Only a week later, he has full run of the apartment, a growing toy collection, and some very strong opinions about getting pets. One night, his pawrent was reading in bed when Ray made himself comfortable on a pile of sweatshirts and spent hours enjoying his scratching post.

He's also discovered that human hands are pretty great when they're delivering scritches. Ray still prefers receiving them safely from underneath the bed or dresser, but his little lawn mower purr makes it clear he's coming around.

From a bullied feral baby afraid of every sound to a spoiled house kitty after one 700-mile journey, Ray has already come a long way. Something tells us his hiding days won't last furever.

Good Ceiling Cat above, it's almost the weekend!

Quick, we have to make everything ready for the weekend; Caturday is nearly here, and our cats all need to be pampered and ready to spend all their time doing all this nothing. When the workweek ends, it all becomes cat time for every cat pawrent out there. You're done with chores, there are no more emails to answer, and your boss can't summon you for another meeting for at least the next couple of days. Summer may be almost over, but that feeling of freedom you get from looking up at the stars with your cat never goes away.

We'll always be the first purrson to tell you that you should keep your cat indoors. It's safer for your cat, and for the surrounding wildlife (if you didn't know, cats are incredibly skilled hunters). However, there are plenty of benefits to taking your cats outside in controlled circumstances. Harness training your cats from a young age, teaching them how to walk on a leash, and helping them become comfortable outdoors are skills that will change the way you look at your fluffy feline completely.

Not all cats and harnesses get along, so it helps to introduce them to kittens or young cats. Once they become comfortable in the harness, you can start taking them outside on a leash. Start in your backyard, letting them explore on their own and get used to the feeling of having a leash attached to them. Then, you can begin taking short walks, getting longer and longer every time, and eventually, they'll be fully ready to go have outdoor adventures with you.

As someone who loves camping, I've always wanted to have a cat that I could take with me on long hikes or camping trips. All of our cute kitties below are expurrt campers who probably are no strangers to s'mores and sleeping under the stars. It takes a lot of time and patience to get there, but it must be a one-of-a-kind experience to wake up with your cat curled up in between your legs while watching the sunrise, completely enveloped by nature.

The feeling you get from camping is one you'll never find in a city, or even your hometown. It's the feeling of freedom, a sense of oneness with the world around you, and the call of adventure that you can't deny. What a gift it must be to be able to share that with your cat.

Sometimes, saving a life means being at the right place at the right time. And being brave. 

Every cat rescue story requires bravery to some extent. Rescuing a cat from a sewer or from a trash can requires you to be brave. Rescuing a cat that is special needs, even if it is just from a shelter, requires you to be prepared mentally, and yes, brave. Rescuing a cat from a bad person - someone who is neglecting them or mistreating them in some way - means risking confrontation, and that requires bravery. That is why we, as people who write about these stories every single day, are truly thankful to every person who goes out of their way, stops their day and rescues a cat. Because that bravery is not something to be taken for granted. 

With all that said, we do not think that there has ever been someone braver than the person who rescued the kitten in today's story. After overhearing two rural country men at a gas station speaking about having to "get rid" of a kitten, she stepped in and offered to take it. Scary enough, since the kitten was not right there in front of her, but even scarier when the man told her to follow him all the way home if she wanted the kitten, and even more scarier when that ride home was thirty minutes long and cell signal was lost along the way. Happy ending, thank goodness. The kitten is in safe hands and happy with her new and very, very brave owner. Possibly the bravest we have ever written about.
