Little Cecil has only been home for a little over 24 hours, but he already feels like part of the family. The moment his photo popped up, there was a pull that couldn't be ignored. These whiskery celebrations are all about vibing with the peak party animal energy that only a cat can provide, from the impurressive mid-air pounces to the accidental face-plants into the water bowl.

There's no better time than right meow to ditch your human responsibilities and join the floofy festivities. We don't understand people who adopt pets only to forget about them.

We understand that some cats are an outside-inside hybrid type (although it's a known fact that indoor cats live longer and safer lives). But cats are definitely not fitted to brave blizzards or extreme cold. The domestic cat has evolved from the African wildcat - meaning, cats are adapted to hot weather, to deserts, and the harsh climate of the summer. But winters are tough for cats, so leaving a cat out in the cold is borderline cruel. And that's what we don't understand - we're not talking about feral cats, about strays (though they all deserve homes, and that's an understatement) - we're talking about adopted cats. But this cat's family? They just leave him out during a snow storm. Great.

Cats should be cared for, loved, never abandoned. Cats are meant to rule their home kinkdoms with an iron paw (of love, pets, and treats). Cats were not made to be abandoned. It breaks our hearts knowing some cats are adopted only to be forgotten. At least this one cat has a neighboring family that's willing to care for him during this awful weather.

By the time we get to the middle of the week, our attention span is about as long as our cat's. 

You woke up and did your best on Monday, and you got through it. You even managed to focus all the way through Tuesday, and you even got a little extra work done. But now, the problem is, that you've made it to Wednesday and your battery is all used up already. You're forgetting things, like where you put your keys, forgetting your lunch at home, and you can't seem to get a single task done without taking at least one break in the middle. We call this "Wednesday brain".

Wednesday brain is pawsitively challenging for us cat lovers. Our thoughts immediately go to our fluffy felines at home, wishing we were there with them, to snuggle with them, to get annoyed with them sitting on our laptops and interrupting our video calls. But the temptation doesn't stop there. There are hundreds, nay, thousands… nay, millions of cats on the internet that are just a few clicks away. And with our brains working at this purrfectly glacial pace, they can't resist taking a break to enjoy some floofball goofball felines that will bring us the serotonin we desperately need. 

Well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! One more break won't hurt, right? That's right. Usually, it's not the cat who needs rehoming, it's the partner who wants you to abandon your cat. 

We think that everyone can agree that one of the golden rules when it comes to dating is setting expectations early. Where in the country do you want to live long-term? Do you see yourself ever getting married? Are kids something that you would want to have someday in the future? And - perhaps the most important one - do you like cats? And we say that it is the most important because we think that it is often the most overlooked, despite the fact that if your partner wants you to get rid of your cats somewhere down the line in the relationship, that is a dealbreaker just as much as any of the other things. 

We tell cat owners to find out what the person they are dating thinks about their cats as soon as possible. You don't want to date someone who hates cats for three weeks, let alone three years. Of course, you would expect someone to just… tell you, from the get-go, what they think about your cats, but unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. Bring it up. Facing the ultimatum - "it's either me or the cat" - might be very simple but it sure as heck is not easy. 

No matter how many cats you have seen, there are always more out there that will amaze you with their uniqueness. 

Here at ICHC, we like to say that every single cat is unique. Because it is true. Especially to that cat's owner. We say that as people who own the simplest cats - simple in every way. They are still special. There is always something. Maybe at first glance, someone else wouldn't see it. But you know. Some of the simplest cats have a folded ear or two. Maybe these cats have an extra toe bean. Maybe they have a single paw that is a different color or a stripe on their tail that seems like it shouldn't be there. There is always something to make them unique. 

With all that said, we have to admit that some cats instantly look different and unique - without having to so much as squint. There are always cats with unique fur patterns - things that are rare and unexpected. And the beautiful thing about the internet - and our jobs as people writing for ICHC - is that we can put together a list of these special kitties for all of you guys to view and enjoy.

Sometimes you just need a quick scroll break. Not a full lunch. Not a walk. Just a few solid cat memes while you sit at your desk pretending to think very hard.

One turns into five before you even realize it. A cat with its paws on a keyboard like it's about to send something it absolutely shouldn't. A cat staring at a screen with that thousand-yard look that says, "This could've been an email." The one dramatically lying on paperwork like deadlines are optional. It's too accurate.

There's also the classics. The "I'm busy" pose that looks nothing like actual purrductivity. The side-eye that feels directed at whoever scheduled that meeting. The slow blink that reads like, "We'll circle back." You don't even need captions half the time. The faces say it all.

He was ready for the baby before anyone else was.

When this couple found out a baby was on the way, one of the biggest questions wasn't about diapers or sleep schedules. It was about the cat. Imagine adopting a cat, and thinking you have it all figured out, then suddenly you realize that your male cat, Dexter, is actually a girl!

You heard it here, folks. This guy was just out of his practicum and heard meowing. He went towards the noise, and saw this little orange kitty covered in scratches. He immediately took him in (after checking that he's really a stray), and then took him to the vet. Sometimes what you want isn't what you get, and that's okay. 

Not everyone is spiritual, but if you are then you probably believe things happen for a reason. It doesn't mean you think everything happens for a reason, but it could mean that you attribute your life circumstances to something you have to learn, a message from above, or a journey to begin. It's a beautiful way to think of things, that everything is meant for you, the good and the bad, and that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. It's a way to see things, a positive lens of meaning and purpose, opposed to thinking nihilistically that nothing means anything. But anyway, this woman lost her cat Nyx and swore she wouldn't just pick up another. Then her heart spoke louder than her head. She saw this tiny, striped cutie outside, meowing up a storm. Sometimes people will be gifted a cat by the Cat Distribution System, but their sense of responsibility stands in the way of them seeing it. We cannot entirely blame this pawrent for not seeing the obvious truth laid out in front of them. After all, it can be quite the headspinning event to come across a seemingly abandoned kitten. There is a lot to do both to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the kitten as well as your home and many pawrents get wrapped up in that process without noticing all the signs screaming at them that the kitten is destined to be their own cat child.

If the pawrent is aware enough they manage to stop themselves before surrendering the cat to a shelter and realize that even if their life and home are somewhat imperfect, they are perfect for the kitten who has been gifted to them. Thankfully, this is one of those stories where the pawrent realizes the reality and the pair of them get to live their happily ever after.
