Some cats have absolutely no interest in drinking water from a bowl when there's a perfectly good faucet nearby.

Turn on the sink and suddenly your cat is right there, ready for a drink. They'll hop onto the counter, stick their head over the sink, and start lapping at the stream like this is obviously how water is supposed to be served. The full bowl sitting a few feet away? Apparently that's not the same.

Every cat seems to have their own faucet technique too. Some drink neatly from the stream without getting a drop on themselves. Others shove their entire face into the water and come away with a soaking wet head. We're not sure how much water actually makes it into their mouth, but they seem happy with the arrangement.

Then there are the cats who learn that the hooman controls the faucet. Once they figure that out, you're in trouble. They'll sit in the sink and wait for you, meow until you get the hint, or stare directly at the tap like they're trying to turn it on with their mind. Sorry, hooman, your services are required.

We can't really blame them for preferring the fresh stuff. Running water is fun to watch, fun to smack with a paw, and apparently pretty fun to drink too. Some kitties will even stop for a few playful swats before remembering they came over for a drink.

Of course, giving them faucet water once can quickly become a regular thing. Soon you're turning on the sink several times a day because your cat has decided this is simply how things work now.

At least they're staying hydpurrated.

Just don't expect that water bowl to impress them anymore.

Cats and cardboard boxes are a combination we will never get tired of.

It really doesn't matter what kind of box you bring into the house. Leave it on the floor for a few minutes and there's a good chance your cat will find it. They'll climb in, turn around a few times, and settle down like you put it there specifically for them.

The size of the box doesn't seem to matter much either. A nice roomy box is great, but apparently so is one that barely fits a single paw. Cats will somehow squeeze themselves into the tiniest spaces and look perfectly happy about it. You can see half the cat spilling over the sides, but they're staying put.

A good box can stick around for a while too. You tell yourself you'll throw it out after your cat gets bored of it, and then three weeks later it's still sitting in the middle of your living room. By then, they've slept in it enough times that getting rid of it feels a little mean.

Boxes are good for more than naps, though. Cats can hide in them, jump out at each other, chew on the edges, and poke their little heads through any holes they manage to find. Give them some packing paper inside and you've basically handed them an entire afternoon of entertainment.

Meanwhile, the actual thing that came in the box may have cost you plenty. Maybe it was even something for the cat. They don't care. The cardboard is right there, and they've already made their choice.

Cat pawrents know better than to immediately break down a good box at this point. You have to leave it out for inspection first and see whether your kitty approves.

If they climb inside, congratulations. That box belongs to them now.

There is no denying that the reality of this world is not one that is all too attractive to live in. warming seas, cooling international relations and the ever increasing pressure to perform is no fun for anyone. So we invite you to step away from that reality for a few sweet moments to live in the wacky world of felines. A world where none of those problems exist, and where cats are the head honchos. 

We, much like you are simply hooman (or maybe a hooman cat hybrid at this point). We feel the weight of this world and how worrying it can be. But when we feel like we cannot take anymore we turn our attention to the wacky world of felines. A place where none of our people problems exist and the biggest outrage of the day is that second breakfast is not yet a legal requirement. A place where cats complain solely about the little things that their pawrents pester them with. Things like going to the toilet in the litter box, lying on their face while they sleep and occasionally slapping a family member.

It is a fine place to lay your problems at the door and remind yourself that the world can be much better than it seems. You just need the right amount of feline goodness in your life. Of course too much and you will quickly find yourself surrounded by several felines, each one waiting for the day you croak and they can inherit your wealth. 
 

There are so many awful ways in which hoomans abandon and dump their pets. But the story we have today is quite the outlier in that unlike most dumplings, it took place in full view of the public in broad daylight. The gall of this hooman is simply untenable, but the fact that someone was nearby to witness the whole thing ended up being the very thing that saved this cat's soul.

Now, you might think we are exaggerating with the whole cat's soul thing. But this is a very real thing. Cats who are dumped and left to fend for themselves often end up developing a hard shell of emotional protection. Having been burned so badly by hoomans, they are very unwilling to trust and even when they do enter loving homes. It can take years for them to fully relax and let themselves be loved by others. And that is why it is so special that this cat did not have to spend more than a few moments wondering how in the heck it was going to survive alone. It was taken straight into the care of someone who wanted to do the best they could for it.

And that hooman most certainly lived up to their promise and found the feline a loving home to live out the rest of its days without the fear of being flung out of their home. It is terribly painful that we cannot stop cats from being dumped, but it is equally heartwarming to know that caring hoomans exist out there to right the wrongs they see.
 

First time homeowners and dog people? What an awakening. 

You don't always expect your first home purchase to come with three cats, but in the story below, that's exactly what happens. This woman is buying her first home from her neighbor, an elderly woman who she was always friendly with since the elderly woman would give their dogs treats on their walk. It's always nice to do a home deal without realtors, but there's one condition that the elderly woman wants, and that's that they continue to feed the stray cats she had been taking care of. This new homeowner has had dogs her whole life, and never had cats since her sister was allergic, but decided it was a good deal and to follow the request. They actually formed a bond so strong with the cats that went beyond feeding them with water and food. They actually took in three of the cats from the outside and it ended up being the best decision of their life! 

The three they took in were Mama, who's a tortie with classic tortitude. She loves belly rubs and is a confident mama. Then there's Kit, at first she wouldn't let them approach her but then she became very attached to them. They brought her inside and she immediately acted like she already lived there and snuggled up to them. Then there's Blue, he is adored and is less independent than the other two, but hey, all families need a baby! This is such a wholesome story, and sometimes it just takes a simple request and to say yes to have your life change for the better.

Incoming – cold weather and cat memes. 

A warm hug is crucial for our souls. The comfort it brings, the happiness, the sense of stability and love, it all matters more than we realize in the moment. Cats can feel like a warm hug sometimes. Their fluffy fur, their little bellies and cat bodies that just exude comfort and cuteness. They snuggle up to you and help keep thing calm and collected during winter rain, sleet, and snow. The cold weather is coming, even though it's only halfway through September we can all feel the vibe change. There's a shift from summer beach bikinis to the black coats and orange leaves blowing in the wind. There's a breeze that develops, the sun starts to go down earlier and earlier. You need to start packing a jacket with you wherever you go. And that all combines to form a cozy atmosphere that we can all understand as the purrfect antidote to the cold, and cats fit right in. They've essentially made warmth and coziness their personality and life's mission (that and zoomies). They love to loaf right on top of a warm batch of fresh laundry, and we can learn a lot from that. 

Kittens have not been alive long enough to pretend they know what is going on. And that is the exact mood for this Wednesday. 

We've reached the middle of the week, operating with the same confidence as a kitten entering a room without knowing why it went there. Monday had a plan. Tuesday followed it closely enough. Now, Wednesday's plans are a bit blurry. This day catches us staring at the same screen for half an hour, wondering whether we'll make ourselves another coffee or just wait until lunchtime comes. 

Kittens understand that kind of confusion. They can't explain where the week went or how there can still be so much left to do. They will provide company for people who are just as confused as them, though they are considerably softer. If kittens can continue without knowing what is happening, so can we. The only difference is that they make uncertainty look adorable.  

On Wednesdays, we humans lose all sense of time. We check the clock, certain that the afternoon must be nearly over, but then we discover that it's still 10:30 in the morning. Maybe you should really go get another cup of coffee now.

Kittens also have a similar relationship with time. Five minutes after breakfast can feel like a lifetime without food, while an hour spent chasing a bug on the wall can pass unnoticed. That's life. Slow parts take forever and small distractions can consume the whole day. 

The truth is, we only need to choose a direction and move toward it. It doesn't matter if it's Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. We are all equally unsure of what is happening; we all get easily distracted by everything, but if we're still determined to continue, then that's the goal. Stick to that. If necessary, we can stop for lunch and continue later. And let the cats help too. These kitten memes are here to make the hours move a little faster. What better way to start off the MLB season than with a cute rescue kitten that also happens to throw a mean curveball?

I'll be the first one to admit that I know next to nothing about baseball. Like almost every young American boy, I played baseball as a kid, but got bored of it quite quickly. Although I may not be an expurrt in baseball, I am an expurrt in cats. That's where ChipPurr Jones comes in.

In late August of this year, a staff member from the Gwinnett Stripers rescued a smol orange kitten from a traffic accident. The Stripers, which are the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, decided to adopt him. But he didn't just get adopted by a staff member, he got adopted by the whole team!

But that's not all we're here to talk about. ChipPurr has found himself as a star on social media yet again! Yesterday, ChipPurr made his big-league-style debut during the Stipers' pet supply donation night, called "Purr in the Park." Leading him to the pitcher's mount, staff members lured him with treats to deliver an adorable ceremonial furst pitch.

From a dangerous encounter with traffic to a baseball field full of cheering fans, this little rescue kitty has become not only the team's newest furry MVP, but he's also become the MVP of our hearts. And who knows, he might even get us to start being interested in baseball again! 

Two kitties facing life one day at a time. 

My cat is one of the most important things in my life, and here's my story.

I got him back in 2021. I had just moved, I had new roommates, new apartment, and I was starting a new life. I had briefly discussed with my roommates about getting a cat together, and they agreed. There was no cemented plan that we talked about, and both of their birthdays were coming up. I took a chance and decided to surprise them with a cat. I found him posted on a Facebook page for fostered animals needing a furrever home. I barely read any description, I didn't think twice, I just messaged a girl and told her I want him and am going to pick him up. The next day, I had a 5 month old kitten in my bedroom figuring out what life is going to be together. 

My roommates came home and I told them I had a birthday surprise for them. I opened the door to reveal a kitten! A stripped, long, green-eyed kitten named Ty. And the rest is history. 

The last 5 years together he's played such a crucial role in my life. He's always my safe space, he's always loving and makes me be more responsible. He never hesitates to tell me how he feels, or plop in my lap, or watch a movie with me and make me feel better about everything. So here's to introducing Ty, a truly unique little guy. Read below how my roommates responded to being gifted a kitten as a birthday gift by someone they barely knew!

Every cat can be petted at least one time. 

We have said this for the longest time, of course, but we will reiterate because we think it's appropriate at this moment. One day, without a doubt, we will end up on the news for trying to pet something that we should not have. At least I will. As someone who gets irrationally excited about every single cat, wild and housecat, and also as someone who gets jealous of every other person who gets to have a bond with a big cat that we can't have… yes, I'll end up on the news for trying to pet a lion or something. 

Why do some people get to be part of a lion pack and I cannot? Why do some people choose their profession so early on that they can help raise cheetahs and then have bonds with them for life? Why couldn't I? These are questions that I ask myself every time I see something like that. And so if I were these people in this story, who somehow came across a drowning wild cat in the ocean and got to save it, then yes, I, too, would have petted that big cat. When life gives you lemons… you must accept that you may have lost a finger or two in the process and then make that lemonade. 

And hey, what they did might have been dangerous, but we hope that every one of us would have done the same. Maybe the petting was overboard, but they did save this wild cat, and that is what matters at the end of the day. 

If you steal a cat that no one technically owns, is it really stealing?

I've always been someone who follows the rules. I was a straight-A student, I always recycle, and I will read the directions at least three times through before even starting anything new. I like rules - they give order and if you follow them, you'll usually find yourself in a better place than those who don't. But all of those morals go in the trash as soon as I see someone not treating a cat with the love they deserve.

The sad truth is that many people don't think of cats as creatures with feelings or souls, so they allow themselves to ignore their suffering. That results in cats getting left behind when their families move, getting abandoned on the side of the highway, or not giving them the medical care they need because they're "just a cat." 

This is where our story today starts: a purrson tending to their loan horse noticed a pregnant cat in distress near their barn. All but skin and bones, the horse-lover asked around, and learned that the cat "belonged" to a farmer nearby, but refused to let her inside, or even spay her because it was "unnatural". 

Unable to look the other way, they took the cat to the emergency vet to get her the care she needed. The vets assured her that, if the farmer came to claim the cat (do you think he will actually come?), he would have to not only pay for all the veterinary care, but he would also have to get her spayed, as it's a requirement for all cat owners in their area.

This poor cat did not deserve to survive like this. I chose the word "survive" because that's probably all she could do for so long. But now, she will have her kittens, hopefully find her furrever family, and live happily ever after.

Just like snowflakes, every cat is unique. Most differences are small and only noticeable to their owners, but you could pick out all these cute kitties below from a mile away.

I've seen more cats than most people will in a lifetime. I was raised with cats as pets, adopted cats as an adult, and every day I go to work and look for funny and cute cats on the internet. I've been doing that for years, so you can imagine how many felines I've seen up until now as a 36-year-old cat dad (please don't call me old).

But you know what? Cats still surprise me to this day. It feels like I could write and research cats my entire life and I would always find something new - and that's partly because the world is getting bigger (metaphorically) and cat genetics are wild. The way their genes determine their coat colors and patterns is something I would happily go back to school and study in depth for years. As a result, you constantly get cats with unique and rare fur patterns and markings. It's simply beautiful to see.

I'm not just talking about the different tiny details between my SID (standard issue cat) and yours, I'm talking about cats with "mustaches," cats born with little bowties or with a single, straight line all the way from their heads to their tails. All these fluffy, fabulous felines below are unique in their own special way, and it's pretty obvious how. But what matters most is that, no matter how different they are, they're all still beautiful, and all deserve to live their best lives ordering us hoomans around until their very last breath.

The Cat Distribution System apparently had this entire family planned out years before anyone else knew what was going on.

Back in 2012, the future cat pawrent was a teenager attending a French-language high school. March 30 happened to be a day off for Francophonie Day, so instead of getting up at 6 a.m. for school, they slept in and made plans to meet a friend around noon. The weather was nice, so they decided to walk instead of taking their usual bus. Already, the CDS was pulling some strings.

Along the way, they passed a woman carrying a box of kittens. She put the box down for just a second to lock her door, and one kitten immediately jumped out and ran straight toward them. They had grown up with dogs and had never even owned a kitten before, but apparently this tiny feline had already made the decision for them.

The woman explained that her cat had given birth and she couldn't keep all the kittens. Since this particular baby had already made a beeline for her chosen hooman, she offered to let them take the kitten home.

And that's how Philip joined the family. They later discovered that "he" was actually a girl, and Philip eventually became Philippa.

But the CDS was thinking way further ahead.

A year later, Philippa gave birth on her pawrent's bed. While they were sleeping in it. Imagine going to bed with one cat and waking up to an entire litter. One of those kittens was Bastet, who is now 13 years old and, according to her hooman, a very spoiled brat.

The whole thing came down to a ridiculous amount of perfect timing. A random day off, nice weather, walking instead of taking the bus, one particular route, and one kitten choosing that exact moment to escape her box.

Turns out the Cat Distribution System plans WAY ahead.

We love a spoiled cat, and having your own tiny couch is definitely taking things to another level.

Some cats really do have little sofas all to themselves, and the pictures are way too cute. They climb up, get comfortable, and lounge around like this is completely normal. Meanwhile, we're looking at them wondering why a cat sitting on a miniature couch is making us so happy.

They look so funny when the couch is actually the perfect size for them too. Their little paws reach the edge, they can rest their head on the arm, and there's just enough room to stretch out for a nap. Some even sit upright on them, which makes them look like tiny people relaxing in their living room.

And then there are the cats who have no interest in sitting on their couch normally. They're upside down, hanging halfway off the side, or somehow taking up more space than the entire couch. Give a cat a perfectly good place to sleep and they'll still find their own way to use it.

We're also a little jealous of anyone whose cat actually uses the furniture they buy for them. Cat pawrents know you can spend money on the nicest bed you can find, only for your kitty to decide the cardboard box it came in is better. So if your cat is actually sleeping on the tiny couch you bought them, you won.

Not that having their own furniture means they're going to leave yours alone. Your couch is still fair game, especially if you just got up and left a warm spot behind.

Still, we fully support giving cats their own little place to lounge. They spend a lot of time sleeping, after all. They might as well do it in style.

The work week is a woeful thing. We are thrown into the mix and with less than a moment's notice find ourselves swimming in a sea of messages, mails, memos and meetings. So by this point in the week we could all do with a little feline fueled support in the form of these sweet n scratchy cat memes.

You might be wondering why on earth we would offer you sweet as well as scratchy feline funnies, but the truth is that much like the loving relationships we have with our cat kids, the best part is having balance. A little sweetness to make you fall in love and feel as though you are floating. And a little scratch to keep you grounded and connected to reality. After all, we want you to feel better and more pawsitive about the world. But we would not want you to walk around with your head in the clouds. That is a little too happy for being in the office.

You still need to keep your paws on the ground and avoid getting all holier than thou, no one likes that pawson. It seems like everybody had a campus cat in college, but not all of these studious cats receive the esteemed honor they deserve.

I studied at an arts and design academy. You can already imagine the eccentric types of people who enroll there as students without me writing a word about it. And, as naturally as it goes, many of my fellow students were cat people. And, also as naturally, it seems, we had some permanent cats living on campus grounds.

First and foremost, there was The Sultan. Yes, he had to have the "The" in the name, because he was that impressive. He was a huge tomcat with a thick orange coat, who would walk heavily all around the territory, and plop himself right at the center of the main yard for everyone to notice him. Then there was his Queen, a young grey female with a very long tail. She was skittish, but loved it when the students offered some food. But then we discovered The Sultan had another queen, so we creatively named her Mistress. She was a friendly calico who was loved by everyone on campus. She meowed loudly for pets.

And despite them being the most permanent residents on campus (because, you know, all students and professors go home eventually, even after days that seem like they stretch forever), they were never acknowledged by any official staff. But that's not the case for Max, the resident campus cat of Vermont State University. After being the friendliest cat for years, to both students and faculty members, he was honored with a fitting doctor title - just as if he were an esteemed university teacher, a professor of high regard.

Meowwwwww! It's cat time.

When we think of the best time to have a cat time, it's all the time. It doesn't matter what the actual hour is, or what day we're on - if time exists, then it's time to have some cat time. And the sooner it happens, the better. And since we're pretty sure time exists (we're not about to determine this astro-philosophical claim; we're not super smart scientists), it means it's a good time to have cat time. We might not be the ones to ponder over the existence of time itself, but we're definitely the internet's expurrts on cats, so we say - let's have ourselves the best cat time, right meow!

But what is cat time, you might ask yourself? Well, don't worry, we're here to explain everything. We can't explain the dilatation of the cosmos and the creation of time as a human concept, but we can explain cats. And we can do it all day long, because we're perpetually obsessed. And if you're here, we assume you're as much of a cat person as we are. The short answer is that cat time is any time you experience the catness of being with your cat, or around a cat, and generally surrounded by cat vibes.

You can achieve prime cat time by petting your cat, giving your cat a little snack, playing with your cat's favorite toy and watching them have the time of their lives, or literally anything you can do in the proximity of your cat. And if you're not around your cat in this current moment? Don't worry, just get any cat to be in your immediate surroundings, and you're good. But what if you can't even have that? Well, that's a very solvable thing for cat people. All you have to do is scroll through some feline funnies filled with immaculate cat humor, and you'll be just fine.

Dopamine hits come in all different forms, so let this one be from meowlarious cats. 

Cat memes are great because they're so simple, yet hilarious. We don't expect them to get us out of a funk, but they manage it anyway. There's something so purrfect about the combination of cats and dopamine. On the surface, it seems like they wouldn't be related, but they are. These small bursts of joy give us more than a dopamine hit, it gives us a reason to love. We love our cats like we love a partner, a friend, or even ourselves. Never underestimate the adoration, devotion, love, and connection you can have with your cat, and don't let anyone tell you it's silly. It's a deeply emotional experience that should be respected and cherished. And even if it doesn't seem related, flag football is also one of those things that boosts our dopamine receptors, and feels akin to the affect of cats. 

Dopamine is the brain saying, "that felt good, let's do it again!" It's released when you accomplish something, experience pleasure, or even anticipate a reward (which is why it's attached to motivation as well). In flag football and cats, they both show us the light, thrilling enjoyment of something. Cats operate on their own mysterious flow. They're surprisingly good at delivering the same little dopamine boosts that we get in flag football. They both carry a certain athleticism too. Cats love to run, jump, play, and pounce around as if they were playing flag football. So enjoy anything that gives you that dopamine rush, especially cast. 

It's impossible to see a tiny set of cat toe beans and not immediately want to squish them.

Cat paws are already ridiculously cute, but the little beans underneath really seal the deal. Pink ones, black ones, spotted ones, a completely random assortment on the same paw, we'll take them all. Some cats even have little tufts of fur growing between their toes, just in case their feet weren't adorable enough already.

Unfortunately, the kitty attached to those beans may not be nearly as excited about them as you are. Plenty of cats will happily show off their paws right up until you try to touch one. Suddenly, that foot is gone. Tucked under the belly, pulled against their chest, or used to smack away the hand that dared approach the precious beans.

This is why sleeping cats provide some of the finest bean-viewing opportunities. A kitty passed out on their back with all four paws in the air? Jackpot. A paw dangling over the edge of the couch with the beans facing you? Get the camera. You never know how long you have before they wake up and put those things away.

And kitten beans are somehow even cuter. Everything is so tiny that it barely looks real. Those itty-bitty paws can still carry a kitten through some serious zoomies, launch them onto furniture, climb up places they have no business being, and occasionally smack their siblings right in the face.

We also have to appreciate cats who casually stretch their paws and spread all their little toes apart. Look at all those beans! That's the kind of content we're here for.

The Cat Distribution System didn't send one cat this time. It dropped off an entire family of five.

Reddit user Momoreau has been a cat pawrent for 25 years, but they definitely weren't expecting their partner to discover a feral mama raising four tiny kittens in an overgrown corner of their condo's backyard. The babies, three boys and one girl, are estimated to be around 4 weeks old, which means they still need plenty of time with mama.

Momoreau contacted local rescues right away, but most are already overwhelmed. So for now, the little family has a backyard caretaker making sure mama gets food twice a day and always has fresh water. She's still cautious around people, but she seems to be getting more comfortable. On the first day, mama carried one of her kittens away, possibly thinking it was time to find a new spot. After a couple of days of meals and having her space respected, she brought the baby back. We'll take that as a pretty big vote of confidence.

There's already a plan for all five cats too. Once the kittens are old enough, Momoreau has a foster situation lined up and even a few trusted people who may be interested in adopting them. They'll also work on socializing the babies while they're still young. Mama will eventually be trapped with help from experienced rescue friends, vaccinated, spayed, and returned to her community.

Right now, the main mission is keeping everyone comfortable through Tennessee's 90°F-plus summer weather. The family is currently shaded beneath brush along a privacy fence, but Momoreau wants to offer mama a protected shelter for storms and rain without disturbing her nest.

Not a bad setup for four tiny kittens whose mama happened to choose the right backyard.
