The season of black cats, strange noises, and suspiciously glowing eyes has arrived… 

During this specific time of year, two types of personalities seem to appear. On one side, we have the ones who love fall for the cozy, warmer vibes, and on the other, we have the Halloween fanatics who start getting ready for their favourite night of the year since September 1st. Guess who joins the second party? Black cats. We are happy to report that, with time, the negative reputation this specific cat had is fading, but as spooky season gets closer, people automatically remember them and somehow start to love them even more.

I've always been a lover of black cats, particularly because I never understood why people thought they brought bad luck… I have multiple friends who own black kitties, and they are adorable and even more needy than other colours or breeds I've met. I'll say, though, that I'm happy that they get to be treated with extra love and care during spooky season, since they deserve it more than others. So, to honour their time of year, because let's be honest, who doesn't think of black cats once pumpkins are on the street, I collected a handful of black cat memes that fit this moment purrfectly.

Besides Halloween, I'm convinced that black cats have their own special personality, and that is different from the other types of felines. As I said, my friend's cats are more loving and aren't scared to share their love with you, but at the same time, you need to gain their love and trust. And I think that is the part in which they set their differences: they take even more time to analyze you, and they are the ones who adopt you as their hooman, not the other way around. They have more rules and are more skeptical of people. And let me tell you, they are on the right track…

A story as old as time… a man who did not want a cat falling deeply in love with the new cat in the house. 

We think that this is a genre that can officially be classified as a classic on ICHC. Someone who didn't want a cat falling deeply in love with the new kitten in the house and believing wholeheartedly that said kitten is the best kitten. Of course, we knew - we, meaning cat people - the meowgical powers that cats have. And they do. There is a pull when it comes to cats that is simply impawssible to ignore. It's why people like us, who have embraced being cat ladies, cannot help but stop to pet literally every single cat that we see. 

My husband has started calling these moments "cat-related delays". Every time it happens when we are on the way somewhere and might be late due to the cat delay, he sends an image of me petting the stray cat to the people we're going to meet. In my personal opinion, it is a valid reason to be late to places. And most of our friends have come to expect it. 

It's because of that meowgical pull. Irresistible. I don't know what would happen if I didn't stop to pet every stray cat that I saw, and quite frankly, I see no reason to find out. Of course, I am a self-aware cat lady. I not only have accepted it, I am proud of it. Some people, Hoofarted91 on Reddit, take a while to accept their true cat lady identity. 

These "people who don't want cats" live under a shadow of delusion. They truly believe that they don't want cats. In fact, this man begged his girlfriend not to adopt a cat. She was a cat lady, though, so it only worked for so long. Finally, she was able to convince him to come to a shelter with her. They chose a cat, and then, this man made the mistake of leaving his lady alone in there. The cat she came back with was not the cat that they chose but rather the saddest-looking cat in the shelter. 

It took less than a day for this man to fall victim to this cat's meowgic. Less than a day for him to say something like this: "I was willing to do anything to make this cat feel loved". And that is exactly what happens every single time to every person who claims they don't want a cat. They just need to meet the right one. And by the "right one", we mean literally any cat that they are forced to be with for more than five minutes. 

So, yes, we think that we can officially classify this genre of story as a classic on ICHC. Because it always goes in the exact same way. And we love it each and every time. 

Kittens can be very purrsuasive. 

When you live in rural farmland, anything is possible. You could suddenly come across a deer one day who wants to say hi, you can find a cat sleeping on your car one morning. You could go for a walk to encounter all sorts of critters and creatures, and eventually you have to adjust to them the way a city dweller has to adjust to homeless people, city trash, traffic, or constant noise. In the story below, a couple's coworker finds kittens in their barn. He's looking to rehome some of them and they live near a lot of farm land. They have mice that come into the house and even into their cars. The girl in the relationship has always wanted a cat since her family always had cats, but her boyfriend is allergic to them. They decide to take two but just not let them in the house, and that's when the internet comes in with bulldozing advice: take medicine. There are countless anecdotes below of people saying that themselves or someone they know is on medication for allergies, but it's just one pill per day. They swear that it's absolutely worth it for the love and relationship to a cat. Enjoy this story.

What's your favorite type of candy? Are you a chocolate fiend, trying to get your hands on a Hershey's or Kiss? Maybe you love caramel, and you go crazy for Milky Ways or Snickers. Maybe you're a Mike and Ike's type, where you just want something in bright, lurid colors and chewy on your palate. But there are some who prefer lollipops. It may be bright outside, but it's still brisk, chilly, and it's much more comforting to stay inside and think of things sweet, tasty, wholesome, and purrfectly cat-like. A fateful and romantic story such as this one we have yet to come across, well other than this story. It tells the tail of two star crossed lovers who find each other by moonlight on one fateful night when one of them was out for a midnight hike. They fit together like two pieces of a puzzle, completing and caring for each other in purrfect harmony.  

So you might be asking yourself how did the cat get to be in the middle of woodlands in the middle of the night and you would be very right to ask such a question. The truth is that this kitten is a tortie, and a vocal one at that. Their breed is known for being a handful both vocally and physically and in a likelihood the kitten's family could not handle their hectic life with it and decided the woods was a purrfect place to part ways. And in a weird certain sense they were not wrong, but mainly lucky.

Lucky because the hooman who saved this kitten was a vet. The purrfect person to care for the tiny feline and one of the few who knew how to help it get over its separation from its mother. You see according to the vet it happened too early, and when that happens animals can end up with severe behavioral issues if not health issues too. So it is incredible that the Cat Distribution System put such a vulnerable soul in the hands of a pawfessional.
 

Cat people have a special ability to clowder. It's pretty incredible how fast we find each other online. Put one cat in a post and suddenly the comments fill up with people saying "mine does that too," like we've all been summoned by a tiny furry Bat-Signal

And it makes sense. Cat parenting is an arrangement between you and a baby that gives affection limited-time offers. A cub who can sit on your chest for four hours, then recoil from your hand like you just invaded at Genghis Khan levels. So it's only normal we need somebody else to confirm this is normal. Somebody to tell us that yes, their cat also screams at closed doors, demands it be opened, then walks away without entering the room. This is why we gather.

But It's nonetheless incredible. Somebody mentions their cat did something strange and 500 people show up to say theirs does it too, only in tabby.

Wake up fam, a new cat just dropped!

No, seriously, wake up! It's not every day that a new cat species is discovered. For the first time in a century, scientists have formally identified an entirely new living cat species. And before you start imagining some enormous jungle predator with teeth the size of your forearm, I should probably mention that this purrticular feline weighs about 3 lbs.

Yes. Only 3 lbs. A literal pocket-sized leopard.

Meet the tilcayo, or Leopardus tilcayo, a tiny spotted wild cat living in Bolivia's misty Yungas forests. With its little rounded ears, meowrvelous whiskers, and beautiful leopard-like markings, it looks like someone took a wild jungle cat and accidentally shrank it in the washing machine.

But how did they discover this smol predator only now? Don't worry, I'm going to tell you!

A local man reportedly found one of these kittens near a forest road and brought it home, believing it was a regular domestic cat. Eventually, the little wild cat ended up at a wildlife sanctuary, where biologist Paola Nogales-Ascarrunz noticed something unusual about its appearance. After years of research, genetic testing confirmed that this was an entirely distinct species. 

Imagine adopting a kitten and accidentally helping scientists rewrite the entire feline family tree. Turns out that the world still has many secrets we haven't unlocked yet. And apparently, some of them have whiskers.

The work week is a toughie there is no denying that, and by this point in the week most of us would rather run off a cliff than keep working. But seeing as we are all so tired, we end up staying sat in our chairs. We say this all the time but you never really know where you are going to find yourself face to face with a dumped kitty. Take this story for example which somehow has a kitty who was dumped in a botanical garden. Perhaps its pawrents wanted to leave it somewhere safe, or they were hoping it would eat a toxic plant and pass away. Either way that is where our story begins.

It begins with the meeting of our heroic hooman who would come to save the cat and of course the cat itself. They instantly bonded while taking in the afternoon sun washing over the plants and petals and soon began sharing meals. Their relationship developed quickly and soon this hooman had arrange to bring a shelter for the cat so that it would have somewhere safe to spend the winter. But in that very same interaction with garden staff a surprising offer was made to this cat caring hooman.

They told them that they were welcome to take the cat home with them if they could convince it to come. Now this is were things get interesting. Most hoomans would have immediately said yes and dealt with the consequences later. Consequences which could impact the hooman just as much as the kitty. But this hooman took a step back and thought. Upon realizing that their home was not prepared properly for a cat, in that it was currently incomplete, they opted to leave the cat in the garden with the shelter until they could offer it a truly pawfect home to grow old in.

 

The video opens with a heartbreaking scene of two newborn kittens that were dumped on the pavement beside a plastic bag. One is orange and the other is a tabby. The person who finds them notices they are so small that they actually need their mom, but the mom is nowhere to be found.

The heartwarming part of this story starts after someone notices them and takes them home. The tiny pair of siblings is lifted from the street and carried to somewhere safe, where they receive the care they need. Their rescuer feeds them, gives them a bath, and gives them a warm blanket for them to sleep in. The kittens were so small that they could barely move and couldn't even open their eyes. At that age, kittens can't simply be given a bowl of food and left to manage on their own. They need someone to give them milk with a syringe so that they can eat. Otherwise, they can't do it on their own. They are naturally prepared to be fed by their mother at that early age. 

One of the sweetest parts is how, after two weeks of care, they look like completely different animals. They've grown, and they look healthy. It's so cute that they are always glued together. They seem to be very close siblings who survived together and now won't stand to be far from each other. They are still tiny, but their movements look stronger, and their surroundings are now clean, warm, and comfortable. 

At the end of the video, we can see how the tiny pair grew together for four more months, and now they look like adult cats, sleeping and playing together. Their beginning was uncertain, but their second chance looks lovely. Their lives changed the moment the person noticed them just in time and rescued them from the plastic bag, giving them the care they needed. Someone could have passed the bag without stopping. The rescuer looked closely, stopped by, noticed there were two animals in need, and took responsibility for them. Now they are part of the family!

Every rescued kitten has a before-and-after. The turning point in their lives is sometimes the first blanket arranged inside a box, the first night spent somewhere warm, or the first time someone decided not to leave them behind.

The change begins through small things that finally tell an animal it is safe. Some need patience before they accept a gentle hand, while others are begging for someone to pet them and give them the attention they need. This heartwarming compilation celebrates kittens who were once left alone, then rescued, adopted, and given the opportunity to begin again. These kittens are the future cats who will sleep on their human's bed, wait by the door, and interrupt every task, even if it requires 0 cats, for the next fifteen years.

Each clip lasts seconds, but together they show many separate decisions to stop, help, foster, adopt, and make room for an animal in need. The kittens now carry a happy life. The human's choice not to leave them behind opened a new life that is now filled with ordinary, happy days. You won't believe what you can find in a basement nowadays. 

Maine Coons have their stereotypes, just like every other breed. Though they're absolutely massive cats, they're commonly known for being "gentle giants," and are some of the most gentle breeds out there. They're outgoing, and referred to as the golden retriever of cats. So if you're a typical introverted cat pawrent then you might not want a loud, talkative Maine Coon. And oh yeah, they're meowing up a storm most of the time! They're also outdoor cats by nature, so be prepared for that. But when it's -25 degrees outside, outdoors may not be an option, and that's exactly what happens in this story. It's freezing harsh winter weather in Kazakhstan, it's the morning, and it's -25 degrees outside. A woman goes out for something in the freezing cold, but hears a cat meowing loudly. Who knows why they wake you up at 3 AM demanding a fresh bowl of food, and proceed to ignore the serving altogether after you've already served it to them. There is no explanation behind their incessant need to bite your hands and feet at random moments of the day. One thing is true, though: never a dull moment when it comes to orange cats. 

What is there not to love? They are energetic, friendly, creative (too creative for our own good), and you can spot them anywhere through their bright, sun-like fur. They will jump on your back when you bend to pick up something you dropped, and they won't come down for a while. Instead, they will cuddle up in a ball, and you will have to get used to walking around like that for a while. They will sweetly bite your nose as a good morning gesture, and they will steal your favourite scrunchie, just to hide it for months under the couch. We are weak when it comes to cats. If you haven't guessed it by our jobs - what with us writing about cute cats every single day - then we're telling you right meow: we have a weakness for them. And we know that we are not alone in this. Many of you guys - the people in our audience - face the same issue. You're walking down the street, you see a cat, and everything else around you disappears like meowgic. You must stop, you must attempt to pet that cat. If you don't, you don't know what will happen, and truthfully, you don't intend to find out. 

Cats, over the centuries, have realized this about us. They know. They know that it takes one itty bitty meow, one slow blink, one roll onto their back to show us their fluffy belly, and we're doomed. Just like that, we're ready to give that cat a home. And we're not just saying that. We've been there. We've done that. That's how we have the cats that have. Because we are weak, and they know it. And they use it. They thought that they were simply saving a cat stuck in a tree. A classic. A bonding moment. This wasn't a simple rescue. It took time and effort. There was risk involved. And as a reward, they thought that they were being this kitten. She walked into their home, made herself at home. Everything seemed purrfect, until she disappeared. For two days, she was gone, and when she came back, it was with clear evidence that she belongs to someone else. 

See? She likes this new human because he saved her. And that's cool. But the previous home was feeding her too. And if they are both dishing out snacks, why not make the best of it? Cats don't simply know that we have a weak spot for their cuteness, they know how to exploit those spots in the ways that benefit them the most. And honestly? We love them all the more for it. m

If you saw a cat in the middle of nowhere, would you stop, give up on the plans you've made, and do what you need to do to help?

It's a question every cat person asks themselves at least once a day. Because as cat people, we all know we love cats to the moon and back. But loving cats isn't the same as getting into the mess of saving a stray kitten at the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere, with no mama cat (or anyone, really) in sight. Just imagine the situation - do you picture yourself stopping in your tracks, disregarding whatever you had planned, to help the little cat in need? Would you later commit to nursing them back to health, dedicating your time, energy, and money to the process?

That's exactly what one family on Reddit had to grapple with. And honestly, we can't imagine what was going through their minds at that moment, because all of that happened to them. They had to stop in their tracks after a Labor Day vacation, in a rural area, because a hungry kitten needed help. But as it is with cat people, their meowternal instincts kicked in, and they knew exactly what they had to do. Not just stopping to see if everything was alright - but doing the needed thing and giving the kitten a forever home. Their home.

When adoption stories like this surface, we're sure it's the behind-the-scenes work of the Cat Distribution System. You can just feel that a cat is adopted right to the people who could give it all to them - a purrfect match. Like it was destined. Well, we don't know about destiny, but the Cat Distribution System keeps on doing its work and… it's working.

Procrastination always starts with convincing yourself you have plenty of time.

That thing isn't due until tomorrow. You'll start in an hour. Actually, after dinner makes more sense. And you definitely work better at night anyway. Fast forward a few hours and you're lying in bed scrolling through cat memes while the thing you were supposed to do remains very much undone.

At least the cats understand.

There's a cat meme for pretty much every stage of putting something off. The confidence when you decide future you can handle it. The complete lack of urgency while you do literally anything else. The moment you check the time and realize several hours have somehow disappeared. And finally, the panic when you've waited so long that finishing the task becomes a race against the clock.

We're especially talented at finding completely unnecessary things to do during this time. Haven't cleaned behind the fridge in six months? Suddenly it seems urgent. Need to finish something for work? Perfect time to reorganize your closet. Even staring at the ceiling can become pretty entertaining when the alternative is starting something you don't want to do.

Cats make excellent company for all of this because they're never going to judge you for accomplishing nothing. Your cat has probably spent most of the day moving between the bed, couch, and food bowl. As far as they're concerned, you're having a very productive afternoon.

The problem is that procrastinating is usually way more fun than whatever you're avoiding. Looking at ridiculous cat memes certainly beats answering emails or doing laundry.

The Cat Distribution System could not have planned this one better if it tried.

One cat lover randomly decided that this would be the day they donated to and volunteered at their local shelter. And who should arrive while they were there? A tiny kitten who had just been found on someone's porch with a dog trying to get at him. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

The shelter believed the little guy may have been a car rider before ending up on that porch. He had a broken tail and a burned butt, which is a pretty rough start for a kitten who hadn't even made it to two months old yet. Poor baby had already been on quite the adventure.

Unfortunately, the shelter was full. The other option was a place that would have put him down because of how young he was. Yeah, no. There was no way this cat lover was going to spend the day helping shelter cats and then leave this tiny guy behind.

And just like that, volunteering turned into adopting.

His new name is Norbert Nubbins Sawyer, which is an incredible amount of name for such a tiny cat. His family apparently isn't sold on it, but we're team Nubbins. He also answers to Nubs, Nub Nub, Nubbins, and Norbert, so clearly he isn't picky. He's now seven weeks old, and his tail and little burnt butt have fully healed.

He also came home to two tuxedo siblings with very different opinions about the situation. The big boy already loves his new little brother, although he may also appreciate the extra food that appeared around the same time. We see you, sir. The little lady tuxedo hates him. You can't win everyone over immediately, Nubbins.

This person went to the shelter planning to help some cats and came home with cat number three. If that isn't the CDS at work, we don't know what is.

We spend so much time debating whether artificial intelligence is making our world less human that we sometimes forget to treat each other like human beings ourselves.

Sarper Duman is a good person, a true friend to the cat community, and he does not deserve the criticism he is facing.

Back in 2017, Sarper was already caring for 9 rescued street cats in Istanbul. By 2019, that number had grown to 19, and he started to really gain some meowmentum with his online presence. He went viral for videos of his cats curled up beside him while he played the piano, or playing with him. Soon enough, millions of people were invested in his feline family. It was so heartwarming to watch from afar! Finally, a good thing is happening to a good purrson. It felt right.

Fast forward to today, and things have taken a heartbreaking turn. After losing his beloved cat Reşat, Sarper shared an AI-generated music video. Besotted with grief, he did not have the finances or mental strength to produce a real music video, so he generated something in order to save money and hopefully raise more money for the remaining cats under his care. The response was nothing like what he hoped for.

While still grieving Reşat passing over the rainbow bridge, he faced a wave of harsh criticism over his decision to use AI. In one post. After thousands of posts over nearly 10 years that were based on making the world a better place. On September 13th, he announced that he was stepping away from Instagram. And honestly, I think this deserves a much bigger conversation.

I understand why people are concerned about AI - artists worry about their work being used without purrmission, people worry about authenticity, jobs, and the environmental costs of generating endless content. These are legitimate concerns that deserve serious discussion, but when did criticizing a technology become an excuse to forget the human behind the screen?

Sometimes, life is like a Wile E. Coyote episode, and we simply roll with the punches. 

Something that we have said many times in the past is that the CDS… works in meowsterious ways. I've seen it in my own personal life. My cat - my beautiful, chonky, love-of-my-life cat - was distributed to me by the system as I was walking around on Independence Day. My husband's cat followed him home out of nowhere. She just walked into his apartment. He decided to keep the door open, let her leave if she wanted, and if she didn't, he would keep her. She walked out. Five minutes later, she walked back in, and now, she's here furrever. 

But it's not just personal experience. Once you write long enough about cats, you have some insane stories stored in your memory. One of them is the Starbucks barista who got handed a kitten through the drive-through window. Yep, a person pulled up with a backseat full of kittens, and that employee went home with a companion for life. Another one is the story of the kitten who adopted two golden retrievers who were out on a walk with their owner. Yes, she adopted them, not the other way around. 

And today, we add another story to our list of favorites. Because the CDS delivery in today's story is one for the books. It's so silly, it's like it came straight out of a cartoon. A person driving in their car, on a completely normal day, has to stop because in front of them, chasing a little kitten, is a fox. And to add to the meowgic of this moment, after rescuing the kitten from the cartoonish fox, bringing her home, and helping her with her wounds, this person decided to give her the most purrfect name.
