Working remote, everyone's dream!

What is so bad about having an in-site job that it makes employees feel so hopeless? Is it how offices are displayed with the boring colors and workstations too close to each other? Is it the people you have to see every day who you wouldn't even share a word with if it wasn't for that job? Or is it the fact that you have to wake up earlier, get ready, and travel to the office every day, losing even more free time? There are millions of reasons we can think of to hate having to go to the office. This Reddit thread below certainly had a lot. But that doesn't mean that everything about working in-site is awful. 

Something extremely valuable about going to the office to work is definitely the support, especially when you are just starting a new job. You need help, real help, someone by your side explaining everything to you, from how to open the systems you are going to use every day to how the coffee is made in the coffee machine. That experience is not perfectly achievable unless you have someone by your side. 

Another thing that I really liked about going to work onsite was the friends you made there, coworkers you started being friendly with out of respect and manners and ended up evolving into amazing friendships you conserve through time. You can't be friends, or at least it is not easy, with someone you only see on your computer screen once a week. 

You may have a million reasons to believe that remote work is the best, and I would probably agree with that. But to completely disregard the good things on-site work has is to not see the full picture. Yes, it's nice to wake up 5 minutes before your shift, to stay in your comfy sweats the whole day, and to eat a homemade lunch. But it's also healthy to get out of your house and interact with people, to acclimate yourself to different environments and network with your colleagues. I bet if you think about it at least for a few seconds, you can definitely see something positive about working from the office, and something negative about working remotely. 
 

There's no room in our hearts for forgiveness if you mess with our cats.

We make a lot of jokes about our cats being our children, but they mean more than the world to us. If something were to happen to them, we would be devastated. We may not have changed their diapers, but we do clean up after them, feed them, calm them down, entertain them, and bond with them the same way a parent bonds with their hooman child. And just like parents, we, too, have strict rules about how are cats are treated. And if you're the kind of purrson that thinks we're a little coo-coo for being that way, then you're in the wrong place, bud.

On that same note, our house is also our safe space. We've spent years making it into the cozy, relaxing place we call home. Not just for us, but for our felines as well. So when people come into that space, we obviously want them to follow our rules and maintain that purrfect environment. Well, that didn't happen in our story below, featured on an entertaining Reddit community. A cat mom graciously let her mother's friends stay at her house and strictly told them that doors were meant to be kept closed to keep her indoor-only cat inside. That was the one rule they had to follow.

And it turns out, they couldn't even follow that one. 

They let her cat out, and upon arriving home, realized that her fur baby was missing. 

Pawrents, keep your cats safe.

When I read about Bindi, u/ParsnipFarmer676's cat, I understood her plea for people to tag their cats. Because even though our cats' circumstances are different, I understand her, because I almost lost my cat three times.

The first time it happened was around 9 months after I adopted Cassie, so she was still very much a young cat. I was a student, living in a flatshare on the third floor. One afternoon, while all of us were studying in our rooms, I realized I hadn't seen my cat for a while. I asked all my four roommates one by one, "Did you see Cassie?", but none of them did. We searched every corner of the apartment, called her name, offered treats and… nothing. I started to panic for real. The search stretched to the outside, all of us going in different directions, calling her. I was crying a lot, they sent me upstairs. And just when I was about to hit "send" on the missing cat post I made for the neighborhood Facebook group, one of my roommates called me, "I found her!" My grieving tears were replaced by tears of joy.

Apparently, my little rascal of a cat stood on the edge of the bathroom window and probably thought that if she jumped far enough, she could hunt the birds in the tree. She fell three floors down, broke a couple of teeth, and hid under a bush. She was so scared. I took her to the vet, who called her "lucky" for only breaking some teeth and nothing more. I agree with him.

I'll tell you about the other two times below, after learning a little about Bindi and her story, because it also matters.

Raising a cat makes everything better. Yes, even you.

We always say here that cats make everything better. Just think of literally anything you experience - and then imagine it with a cat. Already better, right?

Let's say you plan a summer hiking trip - beautiful landscapes, rewarding walking routes, and good sleeping arrangements. Now imagine all of that with a cat on a leash - so much better. Think of how you relax at home after a hard day at work - lounging on the couch with a yummy snack, scrolling through some brainless social media posts, and literally doing nothing. Now imagine a cat on your lap, curled up and purring - much better! Now think of the last friends' dinner you hosted - laughter, good food, and good company. Now imagine your cat being absolutely adorable from all the attention and love he's getting from everyone.

And because cats make literally everything better, then by extension - they make people better. Specifically, the ones who raise them as their cat children, their humans. Having a cat makes you a better person for a few reasons:

First of all, you care for another. It's well researched that when we give from ourselves to someone else (be it a human or an animal), we gain a good feeling in return, at the minimum. Secondly, when you specifically care for a cat, you gain their trust, which makes them show you love. Cats are notorious for not giving their trust easily, but if you're one of the people who succeeded - you're about to experience a cat's love, which is the greatest in the world. And lastly, cats are the literal feline overlords of our lives, so if they grace you with their presence, you're already doing better than someone who doesn't get to experience that. The proximity of a cat alone is ameowzing. They really do make everything better.

Was  it fate or pure luck?

The way the OP narrates the story is a bit messy, but to me, it's profoundly revealing. It confesses a desire to be rescued from his position without necessarily having to do anything about it, just like it happened to Marcus. From the start, we know, and I suppose this Redditor knows as well, that this other employee's lucky strike cannot be replicated, and responsibility is knocking at his door. Will he be able to answer it?

Get a cat, they said. They are independent, they said… And then you can't even go to the bathroom alone. Surprise! You adopted a Velcro cat, which means it's one of the clingiest companions you'll ever have.

Felines might be independent sometimes. Other times, they clearly prefer to remain as close to their humans as they physically can. And can we blame them? An empty chair isn't that comfortable when they have your lap available next to it. The other side of the couch feels distant when your shoulder or your chest offer a better view. Once a Velcro cat chooses you as their person, they'll be determined to stay attached as long as they can. You may have to ask them for permission to go to the bathroom.  

Personal space? They never heard of it. They are not trying to interrupt anything. In their minds, every task can be improved by adding one cat directly to the center of it. That constant closeness makes ordinary routines feel much sweeter. Don't we love being the chosen one? We love being our cat's favorite resting place, even if your arm goes numb or you need to answer an email under a pair of paws. It's adorable because we can feel their trust. Their trust is visible in every relaxed stretch and contented curl against the people who make them feel safe.

Prepare yourself to meet 25 cats who have canceled the idea of keeping a distance. They are joining your work meetings, borrowing your pillows, occupying your shoulders, and turning your body into the comfiest furniture. For Velcro cats, close means closer, and closer usually means sitting directly on their owners. On the other hand, for their humans, privacy may now be a distant memory, but so is loneliness. Life with a Velcro cat means you now have a loyal shadow who believes every moment is better when it is shared with you.

A little cat energy to make you feel better today.

So, let me get personal here. I was not having a good day today. I don't know what it was… maybe I didn't have the best night of sleep, maybe I'm a bit stressed with work… or maybe just all of those combined. I felt tired, angry, and sad all at the same time. You know those feelings that are too much sometimes, and the best way to cope with them is to lie down a bit and relax. And that's what I did.

I started to feel better, and I decided to scroll through my phone to see what I could find on the internet. And the thing that I encountered was not only the cutest thing ever, but it totally helped me get my mood up, and now I'm my normal self again. Want to know what I found? A collection of beautiful cat pictures! There's nothing crazy special about them or anything different: they are cat photos, and that's it.

And let me just say there's nothing that made me feel as good as those simple pictures. Which reminds me that sometimes less is more. Look at what happened to me today! I was feeling blue and down, and those snapshots were the thing that I needed to get back on my feet and get the day started. Because animals are just like that: they have a way to make us feel content and complete just by looking at us.

Every cat thinks they deserve to ride shotgun.

Every friend group has a passenger princess, and every cat owner knows their cat would happily take the title too. The second the car door opens, they're ready to settle in while someone else handles the driving. Their schedule is packed with looking out the window, stretching whenever they feel like it, and making sure everyone remembers who's really in charge.

Every ride has its own routine. Some cats spend the entire trip glued to the window, following birds, squirrels, passing cars, and anything else that catches their attention. Others take a quick look around before deciding the passenger seat is exactly where they belong. A few announce the start of the trip with a chorus of meows, then fall asleep before the first red light.

Cats also have a special talent for claiming whatever spot looks the most comfortable. A backpack becomes first-class seating. A blanket becomes their personal mattress. Your shoulder suddenly turns into the best place to watch the world go by. If they decide your lap is the right place, that's where they're staying until they say otherwise.

The destination almost feels like an afterthought. Riding along is half the fun. Whether they're sitting proudly in the passenger seat or curled up for the entire drive, cats always manage to make an ordinary trip feel a little more memorable, all without ever touching the steering wheel.

One unexpected meow changed everything.

Some cats have impeccable timing. Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit would call this another successful delivery. Almost a year ago, Grenadine, who also goes by Hazel, wandered up to an apartment door on the same night her future human happened to be watching a comedian talk about his cats. Right on cue, a little meow came from outside. One opened door later, a brand-new friendship had quietly begun.

In the beginning, she was content with a few pets before keeping her distance. Little by little, she started sticking around longer. The cautious visits turned into snuggles on the couch, falling asleep on her favorite person, asking for attention with tiny meows, and happily making biscuits whenever she settled in. Every new habit felt like another sign that she'd decided this was exactly where she wanted to be.

Her arrival couldn't have come at a better time. Grief had been hanging over the apartment, and bringing home another pet didn't seem realistic. Grenadine had a different opinion. She showed up anyway and slowly filled the quiet with purrs, head bumps, and the kind of companionship only a cat can provide.

Nearly a year has passed since that unexpected knock at the door, and Grenadine has gone from a curious visitor to the heart of the home. Some cats wait in shelters. Some are carefully searched for online. Then there are the ones who simply appear one day, settle into your life at their own pace, and somehow make it feel like they were always supposed to be there. That's exactly what Grenadine did.

Maybe you shouldn't be staying at a hotel if you can't even charge $30 onto your credit card.

Finances and vacations don't usually go hand in hand. Is expected to spend a lot of money when going on a trip, especially if you aren't purposely looking for deals and combos. If you just get to the city you're visiting and decide to roll over to a hotel to check a room, then you are probably going to spend far more money than you would have if you reserved a couple of weeks prior. Like the person entering the hotel in the story below did.  

It's also common to see people getting in debt or risking their financial situation only to go on a big vacation. As if it were THAT important. I completely get the idea of having a nice time away from home, especially when you have a family. But maybe having to tie your seat belt for a year just to pay off all the credit card debt you accumulated in a week of holiday is not the smartest choice. This can be caused by two things. Firstly, people trying to prove they have more money than they actually do, so they put themselves through struggles to pay for something that isn't in their budget. Or secondly, people who have no idea how to manage their finances or how debt even works. 

As a matter of fact, these situations have become so common that I started to see people demanding some kind of financial education in high school, to prevent teens from entering debt young and so they can learn how to actually manage a household monetarily. I think that this premise would be really useful, as most kids don't learn about this topic till they have already committed all the mistakes, and to avoid financially irresponsible parents from passing their bad habits on to their children. Maybe all of us could benefit from a finance class to stop the overspending and learn not only to save but also how to invest. 
 

Abandonment issues with cats are actually an issue with the humans who abandon them in the middle of nowhere.

Most adoption stories that begin with a cat found in an unlikely place still happen in a general area where cats are found. Mainly cities and populated areas of civilization. The domestic cat is actually not so much a domestic animal, but more of a near-civilization dweller. Well, technically speaking, they're a much more domestic animal than the raccoons or opossums that literally hang out on the edges of society, just out of reach. But cats? There are plenty of strays everywhere there are humans. Sure, it's more prevalent in some countries (Greece is full of cats), but it's a general truth of every big city with a comfortable enough climate.

So imagine the surprise on u/acocktailofmagnets's face when a cat wandered through her door - because the nearest neighbor lives 20 minutes' drive away from her. She lives in the literal definition of "the middle of nowhere", and suddenly - a cat? That makes no sense. But still, she's a very expawrienced pet mom, and would never let a cat go abandoned under her care. Her intentions to adopt this cat for good are very clear. And yet, the surprise is still… well, surprising. How did a cat so friendly and domestic-acting end up in a place like this?

That's when the sad realization kicked in, both for her and for the people in the comments - he was almost certainly abandoned there. It's so sad to think about the fact that people who adopted a cat, took the responsibility, can simply drive to a rural area and just leave their cats behind. It's incomprehensible to us. It's plain evil, period. People who abandon a cat should be persecuted by the law. This is sheer abandonment of a family member - so what if they're feline?

The harsh reality of being "too valuable to lose".

A 24-year-old employee shared how he spent nearly three years going far beyond the expectations of his role, creating documentation, building internal systems, leading projects, organizing company events, and even helping establish the company's entire process. Despite being repeatedly told he was indispensable, he was fired after management cited two incidents involving workplace communication and trust. Now he's left wondering whether he made serious mistakes or simply learned a difficult lesson about loyalty in the workplace.

Stories like this always make me think about how dangerous it can be to tie your identity too closely to a job. Most people assume that if they work harder than everyone else, volunteer for extra projects, and consistently go beyond what's required, they'll build some kind of protection for themselves. The reality is that companies often evaluate employees based on their most recent problems rather than years of contributions. It doesn't necessarily mean the decision was fair, but it does happen more often than people expect.

What stood out to me is how familiar this situation feels. Many workers have been told they're essential, irreplaceable, or one of the company's biggest assets, only to discover that those compliments don't always translate into job security. Fantasy job search

This employee should've gotten a job in acting; the way he pulled a performance and everybody believed it. I've exaggerated things on my curriculum when I was young, not to the extent of lying, but there were some exaggerations here and there, and I still didn't get hired!

I've heard so many stories of lucky applicants who got hired over casualties and then landed a job that gave them a huge jump-start in their careers. I remember back in the day, when I was studying marketing, there was this girl who got hired as head of marketing in a very important company, being a graphic design student with no experience in marketing whatsoever, just because the person who interviewed her for the role wasn't her actual manager (she had gone on leave). She then told me that the first year was absolutely chaotic and that she had to google every term they threw at her and how to do every little thing, but she never showed any distress whatsoever to her teammates and ended up learning. Now she has a lot of undeniable experience and a career that was handed to her by chance. Of course, luck only gets us in the door; the rest is always up to us.

An example of the fine line between helping and enabling family…

When his sister asked to move in with him and his wife, the homeowner agreed since she was in a situation of need. They agreed that she would stay for six months, get a full-time job, and contribute with groceries and chores. After a couple of months, the man is debating whether to kick her out or let her stay, even though she hasn't followed through on any of those commitments.

There are multiple cases like this in every type of family. We were told that family comes first, and that we should do everything we can to help a family member. But what happens when that person doesn't contribute to anything and becomes a burden? Because that's exactly what's happening to this man.

As he mentions in the story, of course he would do whatever he can to help his sister, and that's why he let her move into this home, not before addressing a couple of rules she had to follow. The only thing she managed to complete was getting a job, but the rest, helping around the house, buying groceries, or cleaning up, was not something she fulfilled. 

The homeowner, as a consequence, now wants her out the door as soon as possible… but, again, it's his sister, and now the moral and ethical debate comes around. When is setting your own boundaries a good enough reason to stand in front of a family member and demand something you feel is legitimate? From my point of view, keeping my inner peace and ensuring there's respect for my home goes above any family member.

If things were only this simple…

Cherish every stinky tuna breath, cherish every spilled water bowl, and cherish every meowment they wake you up in the middle of the night to snuggle up closer to you. Because before you know it, they'll be gone, and you'll miss them. Even the bad parts.

Cats are the one thing that makes life worth living. Every day we come home to them and they make us smile from the meowment we open the door to the second we close our eyes to fall asleep. They fill our lives with fluffy comfort, fuzzy chaos, and more heartwarming love than we could have ever imagined. There's only one problem, though: it never lasts long enough.

You will outlive most of your cats - it's a fact. You will raise many of them and give them the best life you can. You will also say goodbye to more of them than you wish. You will hug them for the last time and cry that it's not fair. You will grieve and feel the emptiness they left behind.

But after a while, that hole will become less filled with despair, and you'll find that, slowly, you have room to bring another cat into your heart and home. And thus, the cycle starts all over again. This is our role, as pawrents: to give our fur babies the best life they can have, until we can't anymore. As Alfred, Lord Tennyson once said, "Tis Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all".

Some job interviews double as a preview trailer for the horror movie your future life is about to become, and this one skipped straight to the jump scare. Getting interviewed in a break room, surrounded by employees drifting in and out like it's a bus terminal, isn't unconventional office culture, it's a fire drill wearing a name tag.

Some "mean" and "scary" stray cats are really just misunderstood softies. 

Cats have an aura around them that is very strong. It's impossible to ignore. They carry themselves regally, with confidence, and it is known to everyone that if you approach a cat who does not want to be approached, you might get smacked. Of course, some stray cats like humans more than others. They're willing to be petted, to be held, and then, they go on about their little cat business. Other cats though… some cats have a reputation in their neighborhood, and that reputation follows them around.

In my building, there are many cats. We feed them all. We do our best to TNR them, and so far, we have been really successful with all of them. Except for one. There is one adorable ginger in my building. He's new. I started seeing him only a few months back. And he is a mean one. Or at least, that is the reputation that he has gained. He doesn't let anyone approach him, and those who dare, are quickly scared away. You would think that he wants nothing to do with humanity, but I don't agree. Because he cries. A lot. When he sees you, as long as you are far enough, he will let out these heartbreaking yells, and I know, in my gut, that it's just a matter of time. 

Dusty, whose story was shared on r/Straycats, was exactly like that - scary but in need of love. It took three whole years for him to be caught for a TNR, then another multiple months for him to be caught again to have his teeth fixed. But he didn't even need that. Before the teeth appointment, he spent one night in his human's home, and all it took was that one night of warmth and love for him to turn into the squishy lovebug that he is. 

When your partner wants to 'improve' your appearance

We all want the best for our partners; we want them to do well at their jobs, to get a raise, to reach their goals. Sometimes, we also want them to look their best because we see them with our loving eyes, know they are the prettiest in the room, and we want them to shine at all times. But what happens when what's driving our partner's actions is not necessarily that desire but something way darker? Or at least we think that's what's happening? Precisely this is what this Redditor is telling, while at the same time wondering how to stop her partner's incessant styling tendencies.

Cats can feel grief just as strongly as humans. 

We always talk about how losing our cats is our worst nightmare. We look at them every day, napping peacefully, dreaming, their paws twitching, and seeing it brings us so much joy that even the thought of that being gone one day breaks our hearts. But there is a worse thing than losing your cat, and that is your cat losing you. Cats can feel grief just like humans can. It's strong, it's painful, and unlike us, they don't understand what it means when, one day, we just disappear. For a cat to lose its owner, its bonded human who they rely on for love and peace, is one of the worst things that can happen to it. 

On r/cats, a person kindly shared the story of their cats' loss. Her 92-year-old grandfather had passed, leaving behind two cats who he absolutely adored. And his final wish, as would be ours as well, was that his granddaughter take his cats and love them like he did. Thankfully, she was more than happy to adopt these cats and give them a warm home. But after a loss like this, adoption doesn't always go smoothly.

One of the cats had an easier time adjusting, but Gary… she wasn't ready for any of it. It took weeks and weeks of hiding and coaxing for this cat to open up to its new human. The grief was so strong, and her new human couldn't blame her, because she was grieving as well. But then, a beautiful thing happened. One day, Gary came out of her shell and gave this new situation a chance. And just like that, a switch was flipped, and both the granddaughter and the heartbroken cat started the healing process together.
