Property owner devises a plan to get back at the county after they tried to steal 3,750 square feet of his land: ‘They won’t be extending the road after all'

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 15:00

Property lines are sacred. Even in the frontier days when cowboys were hijacking their neighbor's land over a sack of potatoes, the two most important things about land ownership were that you had your name on the deed and that the property lines were drawn extra dark on the map. Without property lines, how would we know when our enemies have trespassed? For the dude in our next story, he learned quickly that his land was in danger of being encroached on by the one office he could trust to back him up in the case of a property line dispute: The county bureaucracy.

After scraping together plans to start a construction project on his land, this homeowner was flabbergasted when the county presented him with an ultimatum. They would only approve his renovation plans if he gave them 3,750ft2 of his property. On a 250ft stretch of land at the edge of his property line, they needed an extra 15ft to build their new road.

Sounds like if this happened in the 1800s we'd be witnessing a Jessie James scenario.

Scroll for the entire story of how this modern property owner used petty revenge to have his cake and eat it too.

'Guess who woke up to 17 emails from the company?': Team leader pressures employee to work on their day off, demands employee 'write a review by the end of the day'

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 14:00

Working in a contract role gives you a lot of protection from bad bosses. But no one told that to u/Wrong-Ad-2507's boss, who seemed clueless about how that all works.

It can be really difficult, if not impossible, to stand up to your boss. For a lot of people, the intimidation of it all is too much. It can be hard to ask for a day off, for example, without your boss demanding to know what you're doing and why you need that time off. Other people will constantly work late hours at their boss's request. But those employees are probably salaried. Contract employees have a lot of protections through their contracts, and since they're working for multiple companies, they're not as afraid to stir the pot.

This person shared that their team leader decided to assign them a project just 90 minutes before they were leaving for the day. Their next day was supposed to be a day off, but that didn't stop the team lead from bugging them to do unpaid work. Even if your boss has your cell phone number, they shouldn't be messaging you on your days off. That's your time, and you shouldn't have to spend any time thinking about work, paid or unpaid.

Next up, check out the story of the assembly line worker who claimed he could "do the job of two workers," only for his bosses to call his bluff.

Top 15+ unhinged customer reviews: 'I ate the whole bar of soap and I don't feel any different'

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 13:00

You can learn more about people's lives from their online customer reviews than anywhere else. When people review products online, they are less concerned with how they are personally coming across and, if it's a negative review, are more concerned with airing out their grievances, thereby allowing their true personas to shine through. You can't get that level of unfiltered, uninhibited opinions from someone's personal social media profile. That's obviously curated in a very specific way. The only other window you can get into how someone really lives is through their public Venmo history. Don't pretend you don't also scroll through your feed when you open Venmo!

As for these instantly iconic customer service reviews, you not only get a sense of the effectiveness of the product they are discussing, but you also get a sense of who these people are and what their lives are like. Is that not a big reason why people look at what other people are writing on the Internet? I'm just saying that if you want the truth, there's no need to go to someone's Facebook page. Find their customer reviews instead.

'We played chicken and won': Startup employees rise up against CEO's new office hours

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 12:00

The new CEO of a startup had a brilliant idea: why not make every employee work from 9 AM to 6 PM with no exceptions?

There are benefits to working hourly and for working salaried. With hourly jobs, you better make sure you're on time, down to the second. Lots of retail or restaurant jobs depend on their workers being there on the dot, and there are consequences for clocking in too late or too early. But the good side to that is that when you clock out, you're done. Many places literally won't let you do a single thing while clocked out.

Salaried positions on the other hand have their benefits and their drawbacks, and your happiness as an employee will depend on how cool your boss is. Maybe you have the type of boss who doesn't mind how long you work, so long as all your emails get sent and all your clients are smiling. Others take advantage of it: they'll want you to work late all the time or start early a few days per week, and you can't really say no.

This boss doesn't seem to have much appreciation for the hard work his employees do. Instead of having pride in their jobs and solving problems as they came up, the employees were pushed to work a solid 9 hour day, no exceptions. Well, they found a way to push back! Check out u/deqb's story below. Then, sneak a peek at some perilous pickup trucks and messed up Mustangs that probably shouldn't be driving anywhere.

Enjoy this wholesome feline moment and get ready for a weekend of running wild like a mountain lion.

Group project slackers shocked to receive failing grade, while their hard-working teammates performed well: 'I got an A in the class'

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 11:00

Everyone's greatest fear when it comes to working on a group project is the group of people with whom you'll be working. If you're a type A person, you will likely fear having to do all of the work yourself. If you're a slacker, you will likely wonder how much you can get away with based on the work ethic of your partners. The unfortunate reality is that no matter where you fall on the scale of teacher's pet to slacker, group projects are not exactly thrilling for you no matter what.

Here, we have a rare instance in which a professor listened to the students who had been putting in all of the work and chose not to let them suffer because their team members shirked all of their responsibilities throughout the semester. Keep scrolling below to see what happened when these lazy college students learned that they were not, in fact, getting the same grades as their hard-working teammates. For more stories like this, check out this post about a teacher's epic payback on a group of slackers during Senior Ditch Day.

20+ Funniest AI Memes for Those Who Check the 'I'm not a robot' Box

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 10:00

Some people work in jobs that are simply too important to be replaced by AI, and some people work in jobs that they absolutely know AI can do much better. Nurses are probably always going to be human (but who knows), but a content writer who writes about funny memes on the internet? well…

Okay but, with all seriousness, even though AI still has a way to go (I tried getting ChatGPT to write the previous paragraph and it was not pretty), the future is still unclear with how much AI will be able to do, and how it will affect people's livelihood. People are already using it to create art, make entire films, do their homework, and write their codes, we are becoming more and more dependent on this tool, and that gives it a lot more power.

One thing that AI still does terribly, is create memes, so that is not what is waiting for you down below. Instead, scroll down to enjoy some hilarious memes about AI that were created by humans. After you finish with those, click here to read a story about a contractor who caused property damage that cost $100,000.

Loving Feline Father Figures Out His Poor Cat Is Very Ill, Arrives Just in the Nick of Time to Make a Wholesomely Heartwarming Full Feline Recovery

LOL Cats - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 10:00

Hey, cat lovers of the internet. We often wish our cats could communicate with us, although most of the time, they would probably be telling us hoomans how inferior we are to them. But, we would take it if it meant that they could tell us when something was wrong. We've seen plenty of hissterical vet stories on I Can Has Cheezburger, but this one ends with a wholesomely heartwarming full feline recovery!

One little funny feline alerted his owner that he wasn't feline fine by singing him the song of his people, although with a more dire tune to it. The feline's father took him to an emergency vet, where luckily, they figured out what was wrong and saved him in the nick of time. We love stories with a happy ending! If you're looking for some wholesome, feel-good cat stories today, there's a purrfeclty great one just down below. Enjoy!

'Never paid a cent': Witty student calls the university's bluff, breaking the parking permit system by refusing to pay for tickets

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 09:00

Parking permits are a scam in college. Schools know that broke students are barely scraping together enough pocket change to eat instant noodles every night, so why not squeeze out an extra $300 per semester to allow them to park on campus? Clearly, it's a luxury to park your car half a league from your classroom, but not one that every student can afford.

Especially the sophomore in our next story.

After having car troubles and dumping their grocery fund into their fixer-upper vehicle, the last thing on their mind was paying for a parking permit. However, the fear of campus police and another target on their back financially, u/Bwendolyn was in a bind. Should they pay hundreds to register their car for a permit? Or risk a parking ticket?

Eventually, this particularly witty student found a hole in the school's permitting armor when they discovered that once you receive a parking ticket on campus, there's really no accountability to get it paid for unless your car is registered. Curiooous.

Keep scrolling to read the entire story of how a young, broke college student outwitted their university, scoring free parking for 4 years simply by being audacious.

20+ Overcooked and majorly messy food fails

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 08:00

Food fails happen to all of us at some point. At least, I hope they do. I burnt an entire tray of bacon yesterday, and I'm a perfectly good chef who's nearly 30 years old.

I put some bacon in the oven for 14 minutes at 400 degrees, thanks to the fastest Google search results. I was also making some scrambled eggs and pancakes at the same time, and, because I live my life on hard mode apparently, frantically waving a blanket in front of the fire alarm every minute or two. Lately, the fire alarm goes off every single time I cook. I don't know why (yes, I did clean my oven. Like three times. It didn't help). It's making my life super annoying, and my bacon inedible. C'est la vie or whatever.

Anyway, the fire alarm still went off the whole time, even as I waved a blanket in front of it constantly. My eggs were okay, my pancakes were edible, and my bacon was a lost cause. This was a full tray of blackened bacon turned to charcoal. I guess I left it in for too long. That's what I get for not going to the local diner, where the professionals would cook the same brunch, but make it one hundred times more scrumptious.

The people below may also be perfectly good chefs who can't catch a break. Some of them burnt their food pretty badly, while others tried new dishes and did not succeed. Next time I burn something, I'll try and remember to take a photo of it to add to the list of fails! You can check 'em all out below.

Then, read about this dude who's trying to stop their friend from naming another of their children after Pokemon characters.

New boss experiences consequences when multiple members of their team quit simultaneously: 'I'm giving my notice the next day I work'

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 07:00

There's no surer sign that you might need to reassess your leadership "style" than having multiple people opt out, in quick succession, of being under that leadership. After all, as the old adage famously goes, "People don't quit jobs; they quit bosses." There's no telling the level of miserable or monotonous job conditions some people will put up with just as long as they enjoy working with the people in their immediate team—especially their managers. Good managers are hard to come by, so when you find one that makes the working week tolerable, you'll be more reluctant to leave even if your remuneration hasn't kept up with the industry standard or inflation.

Of course, this can take a turn for the worse when your beloved boss tells you they're leaving, putting the team in a precarious position of possibly ending up under the thumb of an egomaniac who is desperate to prove their authority and cares not for interpersonal relationships with their team.

That's essentially what happened when a new Director of Nursing started at the nursing home where this CNA worked. The new director quickly proved that she had little tact when it came to dealing with staff concerns, bringing changes that meant worse working conditions and treatment of the staff. But you can only push people so far before they abandon ship, and the director quickly found herself understaffed as more and more staff handed in their notice. The original poster of this thread reports that they, too, will soon hand their notice in, bringing the director one step closer to manning the entire ship alone without a crew.

Woman Notices That Her Neighbor's Cat Is Suddenly Neglected And Starving And Starts Feeding It, Now Wonders If She Should Take The Cat Home Or Not

LOL Cats - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 07:00

Having cats means having your house be full of chaos. That's known. Cats are adventurous and curious, and they absolutely love knocking stuff over and touching things that they know they're not allowed to touch. It's chaos. But it's not just chaos inside your house. It can be chaotic for your neighbors too, in all kinds of ways.

Your cats might become infamous in your neighborhood for coming to visit them all every single day. Your neighbors might not realize that you're talking to your cat and think you're constantly lecturing your boyfriend. Your cat might embark on an epic romance with your neighbor's cat. All kinds of things can happen. You, as a neighbor of cats as well might have seen some of these things happen yourself. But what would you do in this case – if you saw your neighbor suddenly abandon and neglect their cat?

A Time Capsule of 28 Nostalgic Memes to Transport 80s Kids Back to an Era Before Cell Phones

Fail Blog - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 06:00

Before social media, the only way to tell where your friends were was to ride around your neighborhood looking for the largest stash of bikes parked on someone's lawn. Once you found a heaping pile of junkyard bicycles, you were in the right place.

There's something special and quaint about a time before the Internet. We played outside and scraped our knees. We climbed trees and curfew was when the streetlights came on. We weren't constantly inundated by ads, we could trust things at face value, and the only spam we got was ringing off the hook through the family landline. Life was simpler then.

You could drink the hose water, candy was shaped like cigarettes, and nobody second-guessed that 6" long carpet. So if you're looking for a captivating snapshot of nostalgia, keep scrolling down to enjoy a bologna post-pool sandwich full of chips, and wash it down with this collection of nostalgic memes.
