All the "I'm not a cat person" crowd just didn't meet the right cat.

We need to differentiate between two ideas here, one that we like and one that we don't like. Let's start with the obvious comparison, the idea that we don't like - when we say that people "haven't met the right cat yet", it's not comparable to people saying to gay people they "haven't met the right woman yet", for example. Because individual human attraction can't be comparable to an entire species of animals - it doesn't work that way.

So when we say people who declare themselves "not a cat person" haven't met the right cat to change their mind, we mean they were never exposed to a true cat's demeanor - how loving they are, their cute purrs, and the bond between a human and a cat's character that could be so strong. That individual demeanor and character have no place to be compared to a person's attraction to other humans, who inherently already can have individual demeanor, character, and behaviors that connect them. The attraction is a romantic predisposition that can't be compared to our cat-related statement. 

Now that we've got that out of the way, it's time to focus on u/OkGift4996, who claims she never saw herself as a cat person… until she met the right cats who changed her mind. Because that's the power of cats. It's that spark of audacity to gently declare their own adoption, as if they're saying "I live here now", or "Congrats, hooman, you've adopted me". And this one feral feline family definitely had the cat audacity to adopt themselves - and even turn a self-declared "not a cat person" into the most cat person that she could be.

Bringing home a feline fur baby for the first time is such an overwhelmingly exhilarating experience that it is inevitable that you will furget to do something along the way. But thanks to the pawrents who contributed to this collection you will be in with a chance of being prepawed for your pawdorable arrival.

Reddit's r/CatAdvice subreddit is a great place to pick up tips and tricks to ensure you and your family are going to be ready when your cat child comes home for the first time. But it is inevitable that while in the throes of trying to think how to find balance between how you want your home to look and what is suitable for a cat, you are bound to overlook at least one or two things. Things which later on could prove to be critical in the care of your cat child.

I am of course talking here about the rare and extreme cases, the events that make you question why on earth you ever became a pawrent in the first place. But those are the exact moments you deserve to be prepawed for. Because if you are and they do actually come along then they will be much easier to handle. For example you might consider protecting your carpets if you are particularly fond of them, because at some point that cat is going to expel something on that carpet and you had better hope it is protected or that it'll be something that can come out in the wash.
 

Animal instincts are real. When an animal seems worried, or acts out of character, it's important to take it seriously. 

Sometimes our lives take us down paths that we never could have expected or even prepared for. When something miraculous happens, it can shake our foundation of what the meaning of life is, for the better or worse. In Reddit's r/cats, a woman and her mother are miraculously saved by their orange cat. The owner is getting ready for bed at around 3 am because she's a mortuary worker. Her orange cat, Molly, appears at her window begging to be let in. It's out of character for her because the cat rarely wants to come inside if it's raining, like it was this evening. Usually Molly sits on the porch and watches the rain, but last night was the first time she didn't. Her animal instincts were telling her something, and she let them lead her. Since she woke up her owner, the owner went and followed her into the laundry room. That's when everything clicked and she noticed a strange stench in the room. She realized that there was a heavy gas leak, and the firefighters came. They said it would have been fatal had her cat not led her there. 

Our pets really do care for us, in ways that we can't fathom or describe. This story is one of those stories that make you believe in something, something meaningful, something about living life, and something about trusting your gut. How far would you go to try to save a kitten's life? 

It's easy for people to say that they would do anything for a cat in need. We love cats so much. Just the thought of them being in any kind of danger lights a maternal instinct in us that is so strong, we can barely contain it. Some things we would do. We would call the fire department if we saw a kitten stuck in a tree, and we would help in every way pawssible to help them get the kitten down. We would dig through the trash if we heard a kitten meowing in a trash can, because saving a life is more important than the few showers we would have to take. We would stop traffic and walk out of our car if we saw a kitten lying on the side of the road, knowing that a kitten like this wouldn't make it long, especially in the heat of the summer. But would we jump in front of an operating forklift because we saw a kitten hanging off it? 

That is what this boy did. His mom recalls the story on r/CatDistributionSystem, explaining that she and her son were walking around on a completely normal day when, suddenly, he spotted a tiny black kitten hanging off a pallet that was attached to a forklift. The forklift was in motion. A little longer, the pallet would have been brought down, and the kitten would have been squished under it. But the son's first instinct was an amazing one. He jumped in front of the moving forklift, screamed for the driver to stop the car, and in this way, he saved the kitten's life. Now, she is home, safe, in the hands of people who will take care of it until the end, and our hope for humanity is restored ever so slightly. 

While everyone was out celebrating America's independence, one cat lover spent her night bathing a thirsty, bug-covered baby void cat. Now, they have two things to celebrate every year on July 4th: America's "birthday" and her kitten's adoption day!

Black cats are still the least adopted cats. Some people still hold on to the superstition that they're bad luck, or a bad omen, and therefore, they receive the least amount of compassion when found in the wild. None of the superstitions are true, of course, but that doesn't stop people from consistently picking other cats over black cats. This was about to be the story of yet another black kitten, from Reddit's r/AVoid5 community, until the kitten and her soon-to-be purrson found each other.

Amidst the ruckus and fireworks happening at a Fourth of July party, one starving, flea-covered kitten courageously approached the party. He cried for help, for even some water to drink. Many of the guests tried to chase him off, but one cat lover took pity on him and picked him up. No one claimed him, so she took him home. 

She bathed him, fed him, and took him to the vet. Her original plan was to give him up for adoption, but as most black cats do, he crawled his way into her heart before she could even realize it. She bonded with the baby and decided to keep him as her own cat kid. Now, they play, cuddle, and snuggle as often as pawssible. 

July 4th is usually a hard time for pets, but for this pair, it brings special memories. The day that they were brought together and both of their lives changed furrever.

You can always trust a Southern woman to step in and correct some bad behavior. Especially when she's a cat lover and there's a cute orange kitten in need of saving.

It's stories like this that make us wonder about how all the small decisions we make in life lead to things that can essentially change our lives. For example, if Jan Bradley hadn't decided to go to Walmart in the summer of 2020, Pumpkin might have had a very different life. On her way back from her errands, she was driving through a neighborhood and saw three young boys chasing a smol orange kitten. Most people would have driven by, thinking, "they're just playing", or "I don't have time to stop and deal with this today", but Jan didn't. 

She gathered up all her Sourthern sass (and charm) and promptly stopped those boys from tormenting the kitten. She convinced them to hand over the baby cat, and drove home to her husband with the one thing that wasn't on her shopping list: a new feline family member. 

Now 6-years-old, Pumpkin has taught Jan and her husband Eddie a lot. He never grew into being a snuggly cat - he likes his space and affection on his own terms. It's hard when you have a cat that you just want to show them how much you love them, but the best way to do that is to meet them on their terms. I learned that lesson with one of my current cats, whose name is, coincidentally, also 'Eddie'. I rescued him from the streets, and he's never fully managed to let his guard down around people. But, I still love him, and he's just as loved as my other cat who loves snuggles, I've just learned to show my affection differently. Pumpkin and his pawrents had to do the same.

I never understood people who treat cats like they're something to toy with however you like, and I'm not going to start now.

Before we jump right into the ameowzing tenacity of this little kitten below, I want to share a story on my own. I didn't describe myself as a cat person before I had a cat of my own. But the decision to adopt a cat wasn't an overnight switch - I was already living with a cat before, which led me to this decision. When I was a student, I lived in a flat share with three other people for a few years. One of them brought an abandoned kitten home. So far so good, but signs of my flatmate not seeing the cat as an individual creature, with wants, needs, and feelings, started to occur. And I was worried. Things like closing the bedroom door while he slept, not giving the cat an option to leave, or putting a bracelet on his neck instead of a fitted collar. I was not having it. I felt as if I needed to fight for the cat - and so I did.

In the end, the cat went to live with another flatmate, when we all separated after we finished our studies. The cat still lives a good life with this other person. Caring for this cat and standing for his rights was what made me adopt a kitten of my own down the line. But the important takeaway from this is that my flatmate's cat needed a change of human - someone who will actually care for him, and give him the happy ending he deserved. And that's exactly what the now-cat of u/Status-Ad-83 needed. A person who will not leave her outside to fend for herself when they leave for a weekend… literally.

A cat celebration is always better than a regular one, especially on the 4th of July.

Why do wholesome cats make the internet feel like a better place?

There are plenty of reasons to open the internet every day, but sometimes all you really need is a few wholesome cats. Between stressful news, endless notifications, and everything else competing for our attention, seeing a cat peacefully existing can feel surprisingly refreshing. They have a way of slowing things down for a moment.

I used to scroll through Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit wondering if the Cat Distribution System would ever find me. Every rescue story made me hope that one day I'd have my own. I didn't expect it to happen during a quick stop at a friend's apartment, but that's exactly when one sweet little cat decided to make herself known.

My friend offered to meet me outside, but I walked over to the building instead. Almost immediately, a beautiful cat wandered over looking for company. She rubbed against our legs, happily accepted every pet, and even started making biscuits right there on the sidewalk. It was obvious she wasn't looking for food as much as she was looking for someone to spend time with.

That's when I learned her story. A neighbor had put her outside, and she had been left to fend for herself. Despite everything, she still trusted people and soaked up every bit of attention she could get. It was impossible not to fall for her.

Instead of walking away, we started figuring out how to help. Before long, a mutual friend offered to give her a home, turning what could have been another lonely day outside into the beginning of a brand-new chapter. Even better, everyone worked together to make the transition as smooth as possible, helping gather her supplies and making sure she would be comfortable from day one.

The whole situation ended up being a win for everyone involved. The cat finally has a home where she'll get all the pets, belly rubs, and companionship she'd been asking for. Her new family gets an affectionate little shadow who already knows how to win people over. And I got my own Cat Distribution System story after all. 

Friday is here, and that means one thing - cats, cats, and more cats!

Hey there, fellow feline fanatics and general cat fans, we're so excited you're here. We're about to start the preparations for a weekend full of cats - so the more cat people join us, the better. But what's a weekend full of cats, you might ask? Well, don't worry, we're about to gatekeep the answer. A weekend full of cats is… exactly as it sounds! It's a weekend with some maximum meow energy and full of fluff, and as many cats as pspspsible. Your cats, our cats, and all the love of cats we share together.

So, this is what we do: Friday night comes, and it's time for us to plan for the weekend ahead. First of all, we're being happy that the workweek has finally been left behind. Secondly, we're giving a ton of attention to our cat, because he deserves it - he was at home all week long while we were working. He deserves the attention. And then - the cat weekend plans start. We want the weekend to be as full of cats as possible, and that can be done in a few ways, that we're about to share with every cat lover who's willing to listen.

You simply need to surround yourself with as many cats as possible. Your cat, your neighbor's cat, go to a friend's house with multiple cats - pet them, spoil them, hang out with them, give them your time and energy. Heck, even go and adopt another cat, because that's already an immense joy to do. And if all that isn't enough - let yourself be surrounded by the cat humor of some online feline funnies. That's right - cat memes. But don't worry, you don't have to go looking for them - we've got some right here, for your cat-filled weekend.

Cats do whatever they want, even when they're in the most dire of situations, and that includes finding a home and deciding "I live here now."

There's something extra special about cats. We all know it; this is why we're such dedicated cat fans here. This one person describes how many animals are dumped near their house. We assume that if it's a regular occurrence, they can't do a lot to help every single animal. That's really sad, and we can just hope these pets find happiness again after this grave injustice they've experienced. And this is exactly the case with one very loudly meowing kitten. She was meowing her lungs out in the woods by their house, looking like the skinny abandoned kitten she was. But despite all that she was going through - this special cat determination was instilled in her still.

We think this is one of the Cat Distribution System's powers - it capitalizes on the already existing cattitude and takes it to the next level. It's that audacity (in the most pawsitive way of using this word) to decide "I'm adopted now. You're my new pawrents. This is my house. You are cat people now. I have a loving home, a forever home." There's nothing like an ice-cold glass of water on a hot summer day. And Ceiling Cat knows it's sweltering outside. The thought of doing any sort of physical labor might as well send us into a coma. So it's all the more impurrtant to keep ourselves feeling refreshed and refrigerated, and what better way to do that than with some heartwarming Friday felines? 

A much-needed meowment of cool cat comfort is just what the doctor ordered, and that's what we tried to deliver below. Being a good cat owner can mean a lot of different things, including letting the cat go when you know that you cannot take care of them anymore. 

Personally, as a cat owner, I can tell you this: most of the decisions that you will make as a cat owner will be easy ones. If your cat is acting up, you take the cat to the vet, no matter how much you know she doesn't want you to. If your cat is at the vet's and the vet tells you the treatment will be expensive, you take your wallet out and you pay, because your cat is family, and you treat it as such. If your cat is chonky - and yes, that is my cat's situation right meow - you put them on a diet, and you sit there and suffer while they scream for more food. Because it is the right thing to do. 

One situation that I have thankfully never had to face was not being able to take care of my cat anymore. I've been privileged enough to be healthy enough and stable enough to provide her with the spoiled lifestyle she deserves. And honestly, I don't know if I would have been able to make the decision that this person on r/cats did. Becuase it truly is one of the most difficult ones. But I hope I would have. Because if you can't take care of your cat, then the best decision you can make for it is… taking the cat to a place where it will be taken care of. In this person's case, it was surrendering the cat to a shelter. A terrible thing inherently, but the right thing to do given their situation. And now that they are better off financially, they were able to reunite with their cat and take it back to a home that's good enough for him. 

Cats are a complete enigma. They are both not afraid of anything at all and are afraid of everything at the same time. 

If you are a cat owner, then you have experienced this phenomenon. Our cats are both the bravest creatures in the world and are scared of literally everything at the same time. Seriously, a giant dog walks into my house, and my cat stares him down like he's an itty bitty kitten. A stranger walks home, and the first thing my cat does is walk up, sniff him, and decide whether he's allowed to stay inside or not. But if an unexpected noise catches her off guard, if a thing is not in a position that it is supposed to be, if a bird flies next to the window and casts a shadow in the wrong direction, one second, my cat will be chilling and living her best life, and the other, she will be under the bed and not to be seen again for at least 20 minutes. 

That's the beauty of cats. The contradiction. On the one hand, you have cats getting startled by hair clips. You have cats getting spooked by people yawning next to them for the first time. You have cats getting scared over a slight rustling of paper as you flip the pages of a book. And then you have cats like the one in this story, chasing off bears as they walk into their backyard. Not a care in the world. Not a concern. Nothing. He saw an intruder and made sure the intruder was gone, and there isn't anything to it beyond that. Also, he saved his owner's apples, because apparently, this exact bear was munching on them last year when there was no cat in the house to chase him off. 

Look outside. Chaos. Looks inside. Feel-good cat memes for peace and purrs. The choice is pretty obvious. 

Listen, it's not that I support becoming a hermit. It's just that sometimes, you have to prioritize your mental health. For me, it means that some Fridays are not meant for going out, for clubbing, for being… a people person. Some Fridays are better spent at home, cuddled up with my cat and scrolling through feel-good content online. Which is also not easy lately. I feel like every time I get on social media, I'm playing a slot machine. I want to see cute cat pictures and memes and uplifting stories, but instead, more often than not, I get chaos, corruption and HOTG spoilers. No, thanks. It's Friday. And I just want something pawsitive to start the day with.
