It started with one stray on a ring camera and ended with a full house of cats.

It started with a homeowner noticing the same stray cat showing up on their ring camera over and over. Instead of brushing it off, the homeowner started leaving out food and water, turning a quick sighting into a daily routine. The cat kept coming back, got more comfortable, and before anything official like TNR could happen, she showed up clearly pregnant and changed the whole situation.

The stray began spending time on the porch and eventually let the homeowner pet her. A heated cat house went out, the setup got more permanent, and then she disappeared. The homeowner went looking, checking nearby woods and trying to figure out where she went.

The update came from a neighbor's Facebook post. It was the same cat, now with kittens, just in a different spot. The homeowner brought the mom and kittens in while waiting for spay and neuter appointments, planning to foster and move them along.

That plan only partly worked. The mom cat, later named Mae, and two kittens went to new homes, but three stayed. Miyu, Runty, and Black Bean stuck around and became part of the household. What started as feeding a stray turned into a long-term setup without much planning, and three years later, those cats were still there like they had always been.

Sometimes it is nice for us feline pawrents to see our cat children drink up a little of their own medicine. And in this collection of wet cattos we get to enjoy a delicious deluge of felines who messed around and found out…

The stubborn and spicy attitudes that our cat children have towards the world are some of the things that we love most about them. We love that they can be judgy, bitey, scratchy and sassy little monsters capable of turning on anyone who dares mess with them, or even look at them the wrong way. But every now and then that exact attitude to life gets flipped, turned upside down and that is when we get to enjoy the vision of a cat child completely covered from head to toe in water.

But it is not the wet fur that we are obsessed with, it is the disgruntled look on their face mixed with a little bit of embarrassment that draws us in. It is a very similar look to that of a hooman who messed around and found out with the cat, except this time it is on the cat's face. So you could claim that they are getting what they deserve…
 

There's nothing better than mixing two things you love: games and cats. The guy in the story below got to experience the cat distribution system in the cutest way. 

Meet Dan! This guy was playing Pokémon Go; he was walking around a Chevron up the road from his apartment and listening to the nature around him, when suddenly he hears a little squeaking. He stops and listens, but he hears it again and again. He then hears the delightful "meows," from a little void kitten. The little guy was huddled against a retaining wall on the border of the woods and parking lot. He hops down and looks for a mama and more kittens, but there's nothing. He takes the void in his hand, puts him against his chest and the little guy tries to crawl into his beard! It seems like this kitten was immediately enamored with the bearded fellow simply in the middle of a game. 

He walks the whopping 5 minutes home with the kitten, determined to save him and adopt him. The little guy is so tiny, he can't even jump on the bed properly, he's probably only 2-3 weeks old. His eyes are open and he's very vocal, but still learning motor skills to walk properly. He borrows some money from his sister and goes to PetSmart for a bottle. A rideshare driver had just started his night shift. After getting fired from his day job, he picked up rides to make a little extra money while he job searched, so when he saw the triangle ears and the sweet whiskered face of this kitten in the dark bushes on his first ride of the night, at first he fought the urge to approach her. Yet, as he imagined the terrified, trembling kitten all alone in the cold, he refused to leave her behind. Instead of prioritizing his monetary income, this man cancelled everything and decided instead to purrioritize the life of a skinny, sweet, stray kitten. 

Kittens rarely arrive in our lives at the technically opportune moment. Cats have a funny way of picking the least idyllic times to appear in our lives, yet that's part of the feline meowgic. Like little gremlins popping up out of thin air to sabotage what we thought was how we'd spend the day, cats may ruin a day's schedule with their antics, but in the long run, cats add value to our lives that we may never comprehend. 

So if a cat crops up in your path and you're debating whether to leave the stray behind or save it, just know that this meownor inconvenience right now will bring forth a lifetime of cuddles, kibbles, whisker kisses, and love. Although he set out that night to drive customers around and make some money, he stuck gold in the cat department when he found Carly, the skinny grey tabby. 

You were feeling blue until you heard that sweet little mew. 

Cats meowgically make us happier, especially when they're smol. Like fluffy smile-machines sent from the kitten factory, cats come fully equipped with a special set of skills designed to uplift our moods. 

Toe beans are like tiny bubble wrap domes filled with gushes of menace and a touch of chaotic energy. Dorito-shaped ears bring noises like twinkling bells and fluttering feathers to the teensy predator's ears. And their big globelike eyes shine in the dark with speckled mischief, kind intentions, and a good-natured attack on the way. 

Kittens come fully loaded with spring action pawsies and milk-fueled purrsonality that never quits. 

It's our fascination with kittens that adds to their charm. A-mew-sing and magical, kittens are equal parts ingenious and clever while being the dumbest rock in the river. Adorable as they may be, kittens still need our help to survive, and without a feline mama to feed them every 45 seconds (SHARP), that saucy little bag of bones is going to go from a docile, sleepy baby to a tyrannical, teeth-baring tyrant. Alas, it is the meowcurial nature of felinehood that's so enchanting, so we ought to just let the kittens do what they do best: snuggle, whisker kiss, and play-attack their way into our hearts. 

For a playful scratch or a secretive bite is the best way a kitten can communicate their joy and happiness; the hoomans just need to reciprocate the chaotically adorable energy in return and they'll feel awash with the gratitude and glee of 10,000 generations of well-worshipped cats. 

Felines weren't considered deities for no reason, you know… And cats will never let us forget it!

Never doubt how far people are willing to go to help a sweet soul. As soon as a kind person sets their mind to something, very little can stand in their way.

We've been following this woman's journey to rescue her neighbor's cat for a long while, and for a moment there, we weren't sure if the journey would have a happy ending. It seemed like everything was standing in the way of this sweet feline's freedom, and try as this heartwarming human might, there was only so much she could do to help. 

Luckily, she never gave up for a moment, and we finally get to share the whole story, happy ending included.

Kendall is a 24-year-old woman living in Los Angeles, and earlier this year, she shared the story of how she rescued her cat, Lucky. It all started when her neighbor got evicted and left her cat behind in a locked apartment with no food or water. After a few days, Kendell noticed the cat's calls of distress from the vacant apartment and started feeding him through the small crack beneath the front door. While she was feeding the abandoned cat, Kendall tried to contact the authorities and the building management in order to find someone who could get the sweet baby out, but none of them were willing to help her.

After a month of feeding the kitten from under the door, Kendall was ready to give up. She knew the cat couldn't live off the little food she managed to get through to him, and they were running out of time. 

That was until a kind city volunteer managed to finally get the apartment door open, and Kendall was able to get the cat out and give him the care he so desperately needed. After that, she took him home, officially adopted him, and named him "Lucky." Without Kendall, Lucky would have been forgotten within a week, but she managed to save his life and give him the care and home he deserved.

We would happily upgrade to sit next to a self-proclaimed "giant cat". Just saying.

Purrsonally, we've never flown with our cats. They're not very adventurous, prefurring their cozy home and alone time instead of the stress of airports, planes, and new homes while on vacation. But that doesn't mean every cat is like that! Some cats love to travel, and we give all those who travel carefully with their fluffy felines a big round of appaws. It's not easy to fly with a pet, even if you're a seasoned purrfessional.

If all goes well, your cat, in their airline-approved cat carrier, will sit under the seat in front of you and sleep most of the way. Maybe, if everyone around you is sleeping or feline-friendly, you can let them sleep on your lap for a while. Unless… your cat demands a whole row to themselves, then you might have to force passengers to change their seats to give him enough room, cause a whole soap opera even before taking off, and get a whole plane full of people to give you the evil eye for the next six hours.

That's what happened on this Alaska Airlines flight. The cat, which apparently belongs to an airline employee, was given preferential treatment over a paying customer. What hurts even worse? The customer actually paid for an upgraded seat… and was seated in a normal economy after. If you're going to downgrade us for a cat, we had better be able to pet the cat, and it had better be a rescued cheetah, or something like that.

Every cat picks a side, Jedi calm or Sith chaos. 

May the Fourth be with you! Star Wars Day shows up and suddenly every cat in the house is giving off strong furce energy. Some are full Jedi, sitting still like tiny Yodas, watching everything like they know exactly when dinner is coming. Others? Straight Sith. Big Darth Whisker vibes, zero patience, and fully committed to a little chaos.

Some cats act like they run the whole galaxy. Perched up high, judging, deciding things silently. Others feel more like rogue smugglers, doing whatever they want and getting away with it. Either way, there is a lot of main character energy packed into one small creature.

These cats have been living in their own galaxy this whole time, we're just lucky enough to be background characters in it.

She signed up to foster, and ended up with a cat of her own.

It started with fostering. Four months spent working with two terrified cats, building trust slowly, sticking with the routine, knowing they would eventually move on to other homes. That's usually how it goes. You help, you let go, and you do it again.

Now this foster pawarent has her very own cat. Wonda is three years old, a Maine Coon who was originally meant to be a breeding cat. Mild hip dysplasia and not getting along with the other females after being sterilised meant she needed a different setup. Instead of another temporary stay, she ended up in a home where she could just stay.

The first night could have been quiet. New place, new person, and everything was unfamiliar. It would have made sense if she hid and took her time. Instead, the second the lights went out, she came right over, flopped down, and settled in. Purring, kneading, and pressing close like she already knew where she belonged.

After all that time fostering, there's no handoff here. No one coming to pick her up, no packing her things to leave. She's settled in, acting like she's always been part of the place, and this time she's staying.

This man developed a deep connection to his neighbor's cat to the point where he thought the cat was a stray! Sometimes fate works in mysterious ways. 

He lived 10 years in the same home, and this cat was outside all the time. Purring, rubbing up against him, and excitedly receiving catnip (no food though). The guy thought the cat was a stray before he realized it's his neighbor's cat, who's actually well taken care of. He moved three years ago, and thought it would be the last time he saw the cat. Lo and behold, fate had different plans for him.  

When you think about gentleness, what comes to mind? Maybe a running rivulet of water in the middle of a forest, maybe a countryside with a slow windmill blowing in the wind. Maybe a list of feline funnies to soothe you and add cuteness to your day.

When people tell us that cats are solitary creatures who do not bond with anyone, we scoff in their faces and show them stories like these. 

Despite all the efforts that we, here at ICHC, make to educate people about the reality of cats, there are still people out there who believe in the ridiculousness. "Cats don't care about anyone," they tell us. "They're only here for the food." Meanwhile, we're sitting here, cuddled up with our cats, as they sit in our laps and purr their little hearts out. 

When cats bond, they bond hard. But it's true that they don't bond with just anyone. They choose - carefully - the people or animals that they bond with. And being picky is no sin. Sometimes, cats choose humans - they adopt us, they snuggle with us, they love us for the rest of their lives. Other times, in the same way that they choose us, cats also choose dogs - despite their differences, just to spite everyone who's ever told them that they can't bond with dogs. And other times, they choose other animals. Like this ferret. Enough time, enough proximity, and this can happen. A bond like this, as long as both sides see each other as worthy, can happen, and it's the cutest thing in the world.

We often remark that you never truly know what you are going to get yourself into when you dive into a cat rescue. All you know is that there is a cat in peril, or in bad shape, who needs your help. My boyfriend is the most cat-tastic cat dad I have ever met! He loves his two baby girls, Bubja and Rudy, more than anything in the entire world and would do anything for them. That being said… He is still just a dude, living with another dude roommate, and let's be honest, the cleanliness of any bachelor pad is negligible. So, his litter box cleaning edict is not as tidy as me, his girlfriend, would like. 

Bubja and Rudy are both skittish little six-year- olds; Bubja is the petite, fluffy one, and Rudy the sleek, large-and-in-charge one. I can't sit down without one of them hopping on my lap, purring for pets. But, as much as I love them, the litter box is something we do not align on…

He is trying, though, he really is; he's a good man, Savannah! But I am very clean and thorough, so even when he does keep up with cleaning the litter, it's truly never clean enough for me.

Being a cat owner is one of the most purrfectly fulfilling paths we could have chosen for ourselves. And by "chosen for ourselves", we mean that we lack the willpower to say no to cats, meaning that they seem to find us, and we take them in. Our houses may need vacuuming daily and filled with random glasses of water for the cats to drink from. Our king-size bed might be reduced to half a twin because our cats take up most of the bed and push us to a tiny corner, but what a gift it is to have our cats sleep so deeply in a place that they feel safe in. Our lives have their purrks, like constant snuggles and a never-ending show of entertainment from our curious kitties, but they also have their downsides. And these downsides can only be truly understood by fellow feline fanatics, we just know that you get us.

And, like everything we do, we think it's best to laugh our troubles away with the power of cat memes.
