But, we do share the same sentiment: that we all need something that brings us bliss throughout the meownotony of daily life, even when you're paws-deep in it all. For us, it's cats. Specifically heartwarming pictures of felines that bring us a soft moment of gentleness and joy. We can furget all of our problems for 5 minutes and get lost in their adorable feline faces that keep us feeling hopeful and happy. 

We definitely won't tell you to live, laugh and love. But, we will tell you that these pictures below are the break you didn't know you needed. Sometimes, cute AI stories online are based on real stories - that are much, much cuter. 

You may have seen this viral Twitter thread come across your timelines this week. Two cute pictures of a cat and a lynx cub with an equally cute caption story above them. But you, with your keen eye and your new suspicion of every cute post you see on the internet, instantly realized the story and the pictures were generated by AI. You open the post, and the comments confirm your suspicions. It's AI. Except… not exactly.

AI pulls its ideas from somewhere. It finds… inspiration in real life. And we, the ICHC writers, as people who have made it our business to know every single story that there is in existence about cats, knew, right away, that this AI story was based on a real one. 

All the way back in 2015, something amazing happened. At the Novosibirsk Zoo in Russia, a domestic cat adopted a lynx cub. We had to dig for a while for a proper reference, but we found it - a 10-year-old DailyMail article covering exactly this story. Way before AI took over our lives. It's a simple story, but it is precious, and we understand why its AI version would go viral today. 

A worker at the Novosibirsk zoo noticed that one of their lynx cubs was being neglected by its mother. It was the runt of the litter, and Momma Lynx decided he wasn't quite strong enough for her. That worker, concerned, came up with a unique idea. She brought in her own domestic cat, who had just given birth to kittens, and placed her with the cub, hoping that the mom's maternal instincts would apply to the itty-bitty wild cub as well. And they did. 

The momma cat took in the lynx as if he were one of her own, raising him alongside her little kittens. The pictures of the pair are iconic. Truly, there is no need to generate fake ones when the real ones are so cute. 

Some cats are just… fat. 

We fight it, of course. We understand that overly chonky cats are at risk for all kinds of things, and before anything else, we want our cats to be healthy. But some cats… some cats are just chonky. 

We have one of those. Our cat is 11 years old, and she is one large chonk. Now, here we are, writing for ICHC, advocating for cat de-chonkification, and our cat, at home, is large. Hypocritical, right? Well, not exactly. She started turning chonky when she was less than 1 year old, right after she was spayed, and she has been in and out of the vet's about her weight for her whole life. Still on diet food right now, weighing out her food every day, and she is not losing weight, just maintaining it. We tried so hard to get her to lose weight that eventually, the vet just told us that any less food would be unnecessary suffering. "Some cats are just fat," the vet told us, "like people."

So yes, cats that are too chonky, to the point that it hurts their health - that's bad. But cats that are just chonky because they are chonky… hey, all it means is that you have more cat to love. More cat to hug, more cat to smooch, just- more cat, and we think that's pretty awesome. 

OhMyGlobDramaBomb on r/IllegallySmolCats didn't think that their cat was simply chonky. Their kitten was chonky, yes, but that was no big deal. She's the only kitten, with no one to fight for momma's milk. It's the fact that she started walking badly that spooked her owner. So, the owner did the right thing and took her to the vet. And guess what? Mo (short for Mozilla Firefox) is just… fat. 

Have you ever been snuggle-trapped? You know, when your kitty is snuggling on your lap, and you're stuck there? 

Cats don't always choose the worst moments to be affectionate, but when your legs are falling asleep, and you're acutely aware of your last bathroom breaks, the cuddliest kittens will take the oppawtunity to strike. Kittens aren't always mean little creatures who bite your ankles in your sleep; sometimes they're the sweetest, sleepiest angels, but that, of course, is only when you are in a desperate hurry to get to work or you have something burning in the kitchen. 

But you know the rules, and so do I; when a kitten is asleep on your lap, a true cat lover cannot be the one to disturb them. Thus, you are 100%, irrevocably snuggle-trapped. Enjoy the ride, my friend. 

Kittens are funny little creatures. One minute, they're letting you pet their heads and swirl their tiny tails around your index finger, and the next moment, they're gremlins. The best way to start Friday morning is with a cup of coffee and a side of cat chaos. 

It's the last day of the week, people, and we just need to survive. As always, it has been a long one. As always, there was chaos, there was stress, and there were not nearly enough pettable cats around to compensate for that. In a moment that will live indelibly in his mind, the friend's mom happens to be giving away kittens. She gently walks up and hands him a kitten, not knowing the state that he's in. The universe has a strange way of evening things out. How could he say no to an adorable kitten in his arms on the same day he had to say goodbye to a soulmate? So he keeps the kitten though he's mixed up with feelings of guilt and grief. This kitten will help him through the loss, and he names her Suki, which is the original name he was going to give Snickers. More than anything he wants the world to remember Snickers. Surprise kitten!

The element of surprise is everywhere in life. There's nothing that's eternally stable or cemented. You can plan and plan, and the unexpected will always happen. Like in Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem, a stray mama cat has babies on a big property that's shared by two families. The family next door adopted the whole litter of kittens, all 5 of them. Then the next day they get the most pleasant surprise of their life – Ghost, a 6th surprise kitten. They found him under the garage the day after the family took all the kittens. This little adventurer must have wandered off before the family could see him. No one knows what truly happened, but they're all elated at the 6th kitten. They decided to adopt him and all his beauty, but he'll be splitting his time between his new owners and his grandparents next door. He won the cat lottery. 

The term hero gets tossed around a lot, but if you ask us it is a term used to describe those who stand for the voiceless, who ignore societal expectations and stand in the way of injustice. And that is exactly what our cat loving hero managed to do in this story.

Reddit's r/kittens subreddit is a place where cat lovers converge to fawn over cute kittens, show off their latest cat child and every now and again to share a tale of great intrigue and wonder. And the story that we have lined up for you today is an example of the latter. Telling the tale of a young lady who is especially fond of felines and so much so that she has rescued upwards of 20 of them and feeds and cares for them on a daily basis. So you can imagine her horror and shock when she happened to come upon a teenager with a terrified kitten in his hand about to be thrown into a trash can. She didn't stop to think, or consider what might happen next, fully focused on saving that kitten from a fate it did not deserve.

Words were exchanged and voices were raised, but the only thing that mattered to her was that this tiny feline would know no more harm. And with all of her might she plucked the kitten from the boy's hands and ran home as fast as she could. Upon arriving she was greeted by her mother who of course welcomed the arrival of a new tiny feline. But the way that her cat colony at home responds to the new arrival, well that is the shining jewel of this story, which we will leave you to find out for yourself. Some days ask too much of us. It's harder to stay calm while the world keeps adding more noise. On days like that, we don't always need a big solution. Sometimes, we need something small. It is not all too often that canine pawrents find themselves at the center of a cat rescue, but that is exactly what happened to this dog lover when coming back to her car after a walking in the park with her pup.

Reddit's r/cats subreddit is a place full of fun feline stories. However, the story of feline rescue we have for you today contains multitudes of emotions and gives a very realist view of what can happen when taking on the challenge of saving an abandoned cat. There are so many hurdles to overcome and just when you think that you have completed them all, a new one rears its head to keep you on your toes. And that is very much how this pawticular story unfolded. At first the cat was very sweet, allowing her rescuer and vets to handle her with ease and without aggression. This is already a giant pawsitive step towards success, especially considering how frightened this poor feline must have been.

But that is when things took a turn for the worse. For when this 10 year old cat was brought home, it immediately had to find its spot amongst the two cat siblings and one dog sibling present in her new furever home. A task which her rescuer understood would be tough, but held out hope for success nonetheless. But as fate would have it this is where things went pear shaped, and the cats simply could not get along. And instead of subjecting the rescued feline to a life of arguments and fights, her rescuer did the right thing by the cat and worked towards finding her the purrfect furever home. It just goes to show that you cannot always have it all in the feline rescue game. But as long as you do your utmost to help the cat in need, that is all that matters.

Here's how the story goes: a woman is at a dentist office when a lovable orange cat walks in. In Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem the backstory is that the woman had two senior cats who crossed the rainbow bridge within 6 weeks of each other, so she wasn't exactly feeling ready to adopt another cat. But when this orange cat came up and no one wanted it, she had only one choice. None of the staff wanted her, and she posted in chats to see if anyone would take her. She wasn't looking for a cat, but decided to adopt her. It took 3 different messages from people to make her decide that she wants to adopt the cat, but on that third message she said yes. It was a mixture of feelings since she was still grieving, but in the end she is happy about her decision. The orange girl has brought her so much joy. 

Spoiler: she didn't know until she took the orange cat to the vet but the cat is pregnant! There are two kittens in her belly, and now she knows she can't be a mother of 3 cats, so she says she'll have to beg friends to take her. "Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something," is right. She named the cat Daisy, and the story is so sweet. Enjoy everything below.

The thing about the CDS is that it does whatever it wants to do. You could call out to the system for years and have it ignore you. You could call for it once, and it will send a kitten running. When MarthaMatildaOToole on r/CatDistributionSystem called out to the CDS, she was probably hopeful but not expectant. Because, as a cat person, she knew that the system does whatever the system wants. What she didn't know was that someone else was listening to her calls, and that someone was… her husband. 

When we read about couples fighting over their cats, with the cats causing some kind of tension between them, all we want is to show them stories like these. Why would you ever settle for fighting over your pets when you can have a husband like this one? A husband who hears you ask for a cat and then does something about it? And no, he didn't just bring his wife a tiny kitten from a shelter. He went out of his way to give a home to a cat who actually really needed one. 

The husband helped the shelter rescue Maya - a cat found in a hoarder's home. There, she was fed ramen noodles instead of cat food, because the donated cat food they had was used to feed their dogs. On top of that, somehow, Maya managed to get pregnant. She needed a new home, a good home. And this man's wife ended up getting more than the one cat that she asked for. She got a cat full of other cats. 

Every once in a while, if you are lucky enough, the CDS will hear your call. 

Some of us - cough we're talking about ourselves here - have spent their entire childhood calling out to the CDS. For the first 17 years of our lives, we called and called, begging for a cat to adopt us. Any cat would have made us happy. A kitten, a senior cat, a stray cat, a cat from a litter, but no. Parents said no for the first 17 years, and then, finally, it happened. A kitten walked into our lives, and just like magic, our parents were completely okay with us keeping it. Except it wasn't magic. It was meowgic. It was the CDS. 

Usually, of course, the CDS doesn't listen to anyone. Cats appear in our lives out of nowhere - if we are lucky - and we just stand aside, let them take over our homes and say thank you. But every once in a while… it works. Once in a blue moon, you call out to the CDS and not only does it hear you, it has a tiny agent of chaos and darkness waiting right around the corner for you to find it. 

That is the story that was told on r/CatDistributionSystem. A story of meowgic. One random morning, a couple started talking about adopting a cat, and later that day, they ended up with a teeny weeny black kitten who needed a home right in their hands. They hesitated for only a moment. It was too good to be true. Too purrfect. How could it be that their call would be heard and replied to so quickly? But that's the point of the CDS. The unexpectedness. The fact that it can find you anywhere and at any time. It's why the CDS is so pawsome. 

In some cat adoptions, it's not clear who needed to be rescued the most - the cat or the person.

When it comes to a classic Cat Distribution System adoption story, you've got quite the linear line: There's a stray cat in need of a loving home. The CDS manages to match them with the right person at the right time. Said person takes the cat in, sometimes nursing them back to health, and giving them the best life possible from there on out. And this one story isn't so different, but only from this perspective - the cat's perspective. But even there, some things stood out: Like the fact that this cat adopted itself, more or less. Despite the situation he was in, he knew to jump right into the van of @Brabdinandbuddha, as if CDS-sent.

But it's not just the cat who needed help getting better, it was his now-human, too, who was on his journey of self-betterment. He got sober not long before meeting this beautiful black cat, which is such an important step in a person's life - especially if they felt like things were spiraling out of control. It's true that he decided this important decision before meeting his cat buddy, but we're sure that he's a very big motivation for him to keep on being sober and present - so they can continue their life journey together, safe and healthy.

He wouldn't be the first person to go sober for their pet, there are many stories of people doing exactly that - which goes to show how strong the bond is between a person and their chosen animal companion. It happens more often than we think, that a pet helps the human, and not just the human helping the animal by adopting them as a pet. And besides, this guy reflects on his two years of sobriety with his cat companion, so it seems it goes swimmingly for both of them. We're so proud and wish them many more years of sober van trips.

If there's something we can't go without for a day, it's cat memes.

Every cat pawrent can't go without their cat for long, that's for sure. We know it from ourselves, really. But there have been times when our cat was without us for a little while - mainly on vacations. We would either leave them with the caring hands of our roommate, when we shared the apartment, or we would bring a cat-sitter to keep our cat safe and happy. But that means that we're not with our cat every single day. We know, it's not a happy thing to say, but vacations happen and we all know it. Unfortunately, our cat is not the hiking cat type.

Just when she admitted she wanted a cat, the universe delivered one in the most unexpected way possible.

Miss Pixie's story begins with a confession. A college student had been feeling lonely and mentioned to her boyfriend that she was thinking about adopting a cat. It was the first time she had said it out loud to anyone. The very next day, a tiny kitten was found inside a coworker's car engine after he arrived at work. The kitten, later named Miss Pixie, was only three weeks old and weighed just 0.75 pounds. She was far too young to be on her own and needed bottle feedings every two to three hours around the clock. Sleep becomes a luxury, alarms become a way of life, and every day revolves around making sure the tiny furball is fed, warm, and growing.

The first photo was taken the day Miss Pixie came home. At that point, she mostly ate, slept, and demanded another bottle a few hours later. Her owner admits it was the most physically exhausted she had ever been.

Fast forward a few weeks and it's almost impossible to believe it's the same kitten.

Now nearly 12 weeks old, Miss Pixie is healthy, thriving, and overflowing with energy. The sleepy little baby who could fit in one hand has transformed into what her owner describes as a "little wild rocket." She zooms through life with the confidence of a cat who has never doubted she belongs exactly where she is.

Cats spend roughly half their lives sleeping, yet somehow they still haven't figured out the correct way to lie down. Most animals manage to curl up, stretch out, or find a comfortable place to rest. Cats, on the other hand, regularly choose positions that look physically impossible.
