Some cats wake up ready to seize the day. Lazy cats would prefer the day stop making so much noise while they're trying to sleep.

These felines have perfected the art of doing as little as pawsible. Getting off the couch is a major commitment, walking across the room requires careful consideration, and anything more than a paw's reach away might as well be in another country. Why waste precious energy retrieving something when a perfectly capable hooman is standing right there?

Their schedules are packed, too. Breakfast at eight, nap at eight-oh-five, move three feet into a sunbeam around eleven, nap again, scream for lunch, and recover from lunch with another nap. Somewhere around four, they may find the strength to stare out the window or knock one object off a table. After a day that demanding, dinner better be served on time.

Movement is kept to an absolute minimum whenever pawsible. If the water bowl is too far away, they'll simply wait until thirst becomes a future problem. A toy rolls six inches out of reach? That toy belongs to the floor now. Even turning over during a nap can look like a major physical undertaking, complete with a dramatic stretch and several minutes of recovery afterward. These cats aren't wasting a single ounce of energy unless treats are involved, and even then, delivery is preferred.

Playtime has limits too. Wave the toy closer. No, closer. Still too far. Practically place it between their paws and maybe they'll give it one lazy swat before deciding they've done enough cardio for the week.

Somehow, after sleeping most of the day, these cats still look exhausted. It's almost impressive.

Maybe they'll accomplish something tomorrow. Maybe they'll move to the other side of the couch. Either way, another nap comes first.

Thursday feels a little less like the weird bridge to Friday when fluffy paws, ridiculous feline logic, and a few well-timed meows take over the timeline.

When mysterious meows started coming from a parked car, one couple quickly realized their morning plans were about to change.

One rescuer was heading out for the day when desperate little cries stopped him in his tracks. After following the sound around the bottom of his building, he traced it to the front hood of a parked car. Hiding near the engine was a scared kitten who had somehow found his way into one of the last places anyone would want a little feline hanging out.

Getting him out was another story. The kitten had no intention of leaving his hiding place just because two concerned hoomans asked nicely. The rescuer and his girlfriend brought over food and water, settled down beside the stranger's car, and waited. And waited. Hours passed while they sat on the ground trying to convince their unexpected neighbor that coming out was a much better option than remaining under the hood.

Eventually, all that patience paid off. The kitten ventured far enough out for the couple to grab him and finally get him somewhere safe. After spending who knows how long tucked beside an engine, the little survivor could eat, drink, and relax without any cars starting up around him.

His rescuers are now searching for a possible owner and plan to get him checked out by a vet once the weather cools down. There's still a chance someone nearby is missing their adventurous little guy, so they aren't declaring him theirs quite yet.

If nobody comes forward, though, the CDS may have already handled that part. Spending hours beside a stranger's car to save one kitten sounds suspiciously like the beginning of a new cat pawrent origin story.

Next time, CDS, a cardboard box on the porch will do just fine.

I'm starting to understand why kittens sprint across the room out of the blue. Just like us, they remember the thing they were supposed to do on Monday that they didn't. We're in the middle of the week now, and they haven't done it yet, so they're panicking and running. I wish we could react the same way.   

The main difference is that kittens can crash into a cardboard box, take a nap, and keep on with their day as if nothing happened. Humans have to face the consequences of postponing things that were meant to be done by Monday. At least you owe an explanation. That's the bare minimum, and the best-case scenario when forgetting about an important task.

This week's delivery includes sleepy kittens that use sleep as their coping mechanism. It doesn't matter if they forgot to do some serious kitten business; they run, panic, and fall asleep in a position that can't possibly be comfortable, pretending that nothing happened. After creating trouble, their way to solve it is to sleep and forget about the problem too. I mean… That's not the best advice ever, but sometimes it works for cats. Instead, we humans know that sleeping to avoid life problems is not the solution to anything. Even if we try to ignore our problems for a while, they are still there, so we need to take action sooner or later. Acting like the problem is not there won't make it disappear. In fact, it can make it grow bigger, which is potentially worse, and I don't think anyone wants that. 

So, no, we can't sleep and just forget about it. We are not as privileged as a tiny kitten. They are still babies growing up and still figuring out how everything works in the world, so they deserve to live in their innocence and be taken care of. When we are kids, someone takes care of us too. Later, that's a benefit we lose when we become adults. I'm sorry; adult life is like this. But at least we can laugh at kitten memes! We still have that benefit, and this particular one comes once a week. See you next time!

Everyone gets more energy during the summer months, even cats. The only difference is that when cats get the zoomies, all laws of physics go out the window.

You know the term "cabin fever"? It's when you get antsy for staying in one place too long, and for us, that feeling only gets worse in the summertime. With the sun shining and the endless blue sky calling to us outside, we can't even consider the idea of not using up our summer vacation for a trip to the beach or a weekend camping in the great outdoors. Why stay inside when the weather (albeit hot) is purrfect for being outdoors?

The same is true for our cats - although we have to say it for safety reasons first: cats should only be allowed outside if they are leash-trained or have a safe, secure place to explore on your private property. Letting an indoor cat outside all of a sudden is just asking for trouble. 

If you don't have either of those things, it's time to break out the feather toy and get your cats moving, playing, and jumping. Even if your cat is more of a lasagna-lover than a gravity-defying feline, just power them up with some summer sunbeams and they'll be ready to bounce off the walls in no time.

Tossing an elderly cat, who's only ever known the life of an indoor cat, onto the streets is plain evil. 

One of our greatest fears, as cat owners, is our cat crossing the rainbow bridge. It's something that we know will happen one day, and we knew it back when we adopted our cats too. It's inevitable. One day, it will happen. And that's awful. It just is. But at the ned of the day, we know that this is how things are supposed to be. Because the one thing that is worse than us losing our cats is our cats losing their owners. They might be this itty bitty part of our giant and complicated lives, but for them, we are everything. 

Our fully-indoor cats, who we have been with since they were kittens, don't know life without us. They don't know life without blankets and free food to scream for at six in the morning. If I were to put my cat out onto the streets, she wouldn't survive half a day without rushing back to me. And the same is true for Fida, whose story was shared online as a tribute after she crossed the rainbow bridge. 

Fida's life was long and comfortable, but at 17 years of age, her owner passed. The worst thing that can happen, right? Almost. Despite the fact that her previous owner had family - people Fida knew who could take her with them - they all decided that she was a "burden", that she wasn't worth the effort, and they tossed this elderly cat onto the street. We're sure that she would have tried to come back home if she could, but she had no home to go back to. It was a miracle that Fida was found when she was. And an even bigger miracle that she spent her final two years loved and in a home instead of in a cage in a shelter. 

Summer is coming to an end, and we are not ready for it. 

Okay, so we know that we have been complaining all summer. About the heat outside. About the AC inside. We know. But we also know that we are going to miss it. Some things are just- different in summer. Watching our cats sunbathe in every sun spot they can find, soaking up all that warm goodness. Watching our cats sit in sinks all around the house, looking for relief from the heat whenever it gets too much. 

We're going to miss these moments… all the way to next summer. But before this summer is officially over, we felt that it was only right to send it off the way that we have received it. Throughout this entire summer, the one thing that has kept us sane and happy when we were outside in the heat or inside in the AC icebox, was funny and wholesome cat memes. They have kept us distracted, warm when needed, chill when needed. They have held us together when the weather and life were going to beat us. There are very few things cuter than a baby kitten meowing and looking fluffy.

Our cats are our daily source of happiness and dopamine that we so desperately need. Their meowing and purring give us the jolt of joy that nothing else can provide. Their soft paws and fur, their cute faces- everything about them is the definition of cuteness overload.

If our adult cats, as they are, make us happy, imagine the rush of delight we feel when we receive a new baby kitten at home! Granted, baby kittens take quite a bit of work: they have to be fed and cleaned more often, especially if they are rescues and don't have their mom to look after them. In those cases, we become the new moms/dads and take on the paramount task of raising them to be happy and healthy. They need to be taken to the vet for an examination, and we have to follow their instructions to the letter. We want what's best for our pawdorable furry friends, so we leave nothing to chance. 

Of course, we wouldn't dream of leaving our grown cats alone; we love them just as much, and they have been with us forever! However, when they grow up, some tend to become more independent and only need us to feed them. If we are feeling like we have an empty nest, we might also have the wish to bring another cat, one to whom we can give all the residual love that our older cats refuse to accept from us. That way, everyone is happy! Our older cats can keep their independence without having us all over them the entire day; we get an outlet for our pet-love, and a baby finds a new home. It's a win-win type of situation. 

In some cases, the older cats might feel a bit more territorial. In those cases, we have to find a way to make them understand that they are not being replaced and that they need to be good to their younger siblings. When you think about it, cats are an awful lot like toddlers… Some of us might not have human children, but we sure are raising kids in our own way!

When you work with kids, every day is an adventure. But you still don't expect the cat distribution system to get you while a group of boys hide from a little kitty. 

Kids really do keep us on our toes. Everything could be as calm as ever, and suddenly a scream, a cry, a shout at something. There's a sense volatile energy all the time, because with kids you never know what they're capable of. They're about as unpredictable as someone can get, and it gets worse when there's a group of them like at schools. Working in an elementary school is like being a babysitter of sorts, and every day feels like an adventure. Here, we have as spontaneous as it can get. An elementary school teacher is busy doing her normal job, when she suddenly hears screaming from the boy's bathroom. What does she find, but a little scared and skittish kitten backed up against the wall. She tries to run but couldn't get enough traction so the teacher scooped her up. She told the principal that she was going to take her home. She already has a variety of pets, namely a senior Siamese cat, a Pitbull puppy, and some chihuahuas. But all the animals promptly gave her proper love and care immediately. They gave her a good sniffing to greet her, and she really enjoyed it. She wants to name the little one Tinúviel, as a Tolkien fan. This is such a pure story of the transition of chaos into cuteness. Enjoy! 

When we are stuck in the sorrow of the work week there is not a lot that we can do to change our situation. Most of us are stuck in an office, unable to quickly pop out for a head clearing stroll. Summer is great until you're covered in fur from head to toe and can't exactly change into shorts.

When the temperature starts climbing, cats know it's time to find the coolest spot in the house and claim it until further notice. That might mean stretching out directly in front of the air conditioner, parking themselves beside a fan, or abandoning their usual cozy beds for the bathroom floor. If there's a cold surface available, chances are a feline has already called dibs.

Fans are especially entertaining because cats seem to understand exactly what they're for. Plop down in front, let the breeze hit those whiskers, and suddenly you've got one very cool cat. Bonus points if their fur starts blowing around and gives them the glamorous wind-machine effect of a professional photoshoot. Work it, kitty.

Air conditioners offer an even more luxurious option. Why settle for a little breeze when you can position your entire body directly beneath a stream of cold air? These cats aren't paying the electric bill, so there's no reason to conserve. Turn that temperature down, hooman. Your furry roommate is melting.

Other felines get more creative. Sinks become summer beds, tile floors become prime real estate, and sprawled-out sleeping positions allow maximum belly exposure. The tightly curled winter ball has officially been replaced by the full-body sploot. Every inch of cat needs access to that precious cool air.

We can't blame them. Wearing a permanent fur coat in August sounds absolutely hiss-erable. If beating the heat means spending the afternoon belly-up in front of a fan while their hooman sweats somewhere else, so be it.

She thought a neighborhood stray needed her help, but a few weeks later, she would need him just as much.

This fluffy white feline had been wandering around the neighborhood for a while, but his future pawrent never thought much of it. He was so pretty and well-kept from a distance that she figured he probably had a home nearby and was simply enjoying some outdoor adventures. Then one day, he planted himself on her back porch for hours and gave her the chance to get a better look at him.

Up close, it became pretty clear that this handsome boy could use some help. She decided to try getting him into a kennel, fully expecting him to reject that idea immediately. Apparently, she underestimated the persuasive powers of tuna. One tasty bribe later, he walked right in and was off to the vet. Somewhere between scooping him up and getting him checked out, the idea of sending him back outside went out the window. This boy had found his home.

Then, only a few weeks after he arrived, his new pawrent unexpectedly lost her dad.

Later, she came across the belief that white cats can be viewed as spiritual messengers, arriving to offer protection and healing. She doesn't consider herself particularly spiritual, but it was hard not to think about the timing. Her new companion had wandered into her life right before everything changed, giving her a fluffy little presence to come home to while dealing with an unimaginable loss.

Maybe this beautiful boy had been wandering the neighborhood until he found the porch he liked best. Maybe tuna simply sealed the deal. His pawrent prefers to think there was a little more behind his arrival, and we can certainly understand why.

She opened her door because he needed somewhere safe to land, only to discover she would soon need him right there beside her too.

Even though the sun might be shining and the world is bright and glowing, you might not feel this way inside.

We learned that while we really appreciate it when the sun comes to visit during winter, we don't really care for it during the summer, and actually enjoy the day better when it's hiding behind the clouds. 

We don't want to sound ungrateful, but during these hot August days, it truly is a challenge to go outside and seize the day. The sun and the heat make us cranky and short with other people, and they cause every decision to feel impossible to make. How are we supposed to decide where we want to go for brunch when the heat makes it impossible for me to think? All we want to do is find some shade and rest for five minutes, without feeling like our clothes are getting drenched with sweat.

Even though sunlight has a direct connection to feeling happy (we're imagining a smiling sun on the top corner of every drawing we made as kids), that doesn't mean we're all smiling through the day when the sun is doing her thing. Happiness is more than just weather, and we have to find other ways to make our inside light up if actual light is not making a difference. 

Whether you are sitting inside in the comfort of your own shady home, or whether you are currently outside, desperately looking for a place with an AC that you can chill at for hours, you might feel the need for something to help your spirit soar. Some abandoned animals have a hard time learning to trust humans again. That's why we bring them kittens. 

For an animal to be abandoned is a terrible thing. They don't just love us, which they do, they also need us. They don't know life without us - without our love, our attention, our blankets and our food. These animals, who've spent their whole lives with us, believe that we have only good intentions, that we only want what is best for them. For dogs, this is especially true. Dogs who love humans tend to love all humans, so for their humans to break their trust means that their trust in all humans suffers. And the dog in today's video… we can't blame her for losing faith. 

For no reason, this dog was abandoned. And not only was she abandoned, but she was brought in by her humans to be euthanized. We repeat - for no reason. She was healthy and sweet. And she was lucky too. Because an hour before the procedure is when she was found by the couple in today's video. A single hour later, and they would have been too late. 

Her humans saved her just in time, but that doesn't mean that she was any less mistrustful of humanity. Fair. It took her a year to learn to fully trust her humans, but eventually, she did. She opened up. She showed that she was ready to be loved and spoiled properly again. And once she was calm, this wonderful family started fostering kittens again. 

Of course, they were hesitant for a moment. They wouldn't know how their sensitive dog would react to something like this, but she was amazing. She surprised everyone, treating each and every one of these baby kittens as if they were her own. She did for these kittens what her humans did for her. She treated them with patience; she gave them time, and she let them approach her. She became the best foster momma, giving these kittens the mom that they don't have, and getting unconditional love in return from them. 

Loving a cat means doing what is best for the cat, even if that means giving it to someone else.

Truly being a cat person means being able to make the right decisions for them, even if they might disagree with them. It means putting your cat on a diet, even if your cat thinks it's the worst thing in the world. It means giving your cat medicine when they need it, even if they hate the taste and run from it. And it means making the most difficult decision - if you cannot provide your cat with its basic needs, then the best thing to do for it is to find someone else who can. 

Of course, it's all easier said than done, but it can happen. Because some people are genuinely good. When Waddlekitty shared their story about the homeless woman who handed them a kitten, they admitted that they were surprised by it and didn't know what to do at first. That's alright though, we would have reacted the same way. It took a moment, but they realized what was happening. The homeless woman rescued the kitten, knowing that it wasn't a safe place for her to be, but she also knew that she didn't have the means of taking care of the kitten herself. So she approached the first person who looked like they might be able to take her - a person on a walk with their cat - and tried her luck in finding this kitten a home. Because that is what a real cat person does. 

In this purrticular case, size does matter. The size of Gelato's legs, and the size of his vet's heart.

All cats deserve to live a life that they enjoy, and nothing should get in the way of that. Not a missing eye or a missing leg, nor a wobbly leg syndrome or a very sensitive tummy. But the problem isn't the cats - it's how much we as hoomans want to invest in their happiness. 

Many people see cats as less than themselves - they're pets. They're not as smart as we are, they don't have jobs or contribute to the household finances, and you more or less have to make every decision for them. But that doesn't mean that they deserve to life a fulfilling life any less than we do. We tend to put a priority on our lives instead of theirs, but Gelato's story is proof that it doesn't take a huge amount of money to give a cat the life they deserve - it just takes some tape, rulers, and a whole lot of creativity.

Gelato is a tiny rescue kitten who was brought to Cincinnati Animal Care a few months ago. They discovered he had a spinal injury, but unfortunately, none of the clinic's wheelchairs were small enough for him. So, the lead veterinarian, Mallory Smith, MacGyvered a tiny wheelchair made from rulers, pieces of cardboard, lots of tape, and tiny Hot Wheels ambulances. And the ameowzing thing was that not only did it work, but it allowed him to act like the kitten he was supposed to be.

Where there's a will, there's a way - and Gelato had the will, but without Mallory Smith, he never would have found the way.

Cats are already experts at getting their way with one look, but having two different eye colors feels like an unfair advantage.

Heterochromia gives some kitties one eye in one color and another in a completely different shade. Blue and green, blue and gold, green and amber. Whatever the combination, it makes for a seriously striking set of peepers. One glance at these felines and it's easy to understand why their pawrents probably have a camera roll dedicated entirely to close-ups of their faces.

There's something especially cute about the way each eye adds to their expressions. One side might be giving sweet baby who has never done anything wrong, while the other is giving tiny troublemaker who definitely knocked that cup off the counter. Together, they create a face that can get away with just about anything.

Those colorful eyes make everyday cat expressions even better. The big stare when dinner is running late. The sleepy squint from the couch. The intense concentration reserved for birds outside the window. Even a little side-eye becomes worthy of a photoshoot when the eyes doing the judging don't match.

Cat pawrents already know how difficult it is to resist taking another picture when their feline is looking particularly cute. With these kitties, every turn of the head shows off those colors all over again. It's basically an endless supply of new profile pictures, whether the cat agreed to the photoshoot or not.

The cats themselves are still busy with regular kitty responsibilities: finding the warmest nap spot, squeezing into boxes, chasing mysterious objects down the hallway, and keeping their hoomans on a strict feeding schedule. Looking this good is simply happening in between.

No two pairs of peepers are quite the same, and we could happily stare at them all day.

Who needs matching accessories when your eyes are already the main event?

Four paws go in, one perfectly baked loaf comes out.

A proper cat loaf requires commitment. The paws must disappear entirely beneath the body, the tail needs to be tucked away, and the final product should be as round and compact as possible. Once those conditions are met, congratulations: the household now has a freshly baked loaf sitting in the middle of the floor.

There are plenty of varieties in the feline bakery. Orange cats make a lovely golden loaf, while voids tend to come out a little burnt. Fluffy cats are the overflowing sourdough of the bunch, spreading beyond their intended shape no matter how tightly those paws are tucked. Tuxies arrive looking slightly fancier than the average baked good, because even bread can have a dress code.

Then there are the imperfect loaves. A paw sticking out? Underbaked. Tail hanging off the side? Someone got sloppy with the recipe. One leg completely extended while the other three are hidden? We're not entirely sure what came out of the oven, but we'll eat it up anyway.

Cat pawrents know better than to disturb a good loaf once it has settled. Those hidden paws might look harmless, but they can reappear very quickly if someone gets too handsy with the merchandise. It's safer to admire the baking skills, snap several unnecessary photos, and let the loaf sit until it decides to sprout legs again.

No kneading is necessary with these loaves, either. They'll happily handle that part themselves, usually directly on their pawrent's stomach.

Gustaw found his family thanks to a chain of events so oddly specific that the Cat Distribution System deserves credit for the planning.

Back in April, a couple had decided they would eventually adopt another cat, but they weren't looking to do it anytime soon. Their 17-year-old boy had recently passed over the rainbow bridge, and they figured they would wait a while, enjoy some time to travel, and bring another feline home when they felt ready. That was the plan, but the CDS had apparently already put their next cat on the schedule.

It started when the husband had to stay late at work, something that happens maybe once every few years. His wife had to take the bus home instead, and because it was hot, she grabbed the first one that arrived rather than waiting for her usual route. That choice meant a longer walk, but getting home sooner sounded worth it. Then she realized she had accidentally bought a timed ticket that was about to expire. While worrying about that, she missed her stop and ended up getting off one stop later.

At this point, the trip home was becoming unnecessarily complicated. Then she heard squeaking coming from the bushes near the bus stop she had originally meant to use.

There was Gustaw, weighing only 280 grams and waiting for the person who happened to take the wrong bus, buy the wrong ticket, miss the right stop, and walk past exactly the right bushes. Suddenly, every annoying little mistake that afternoon had a purpose.

Gustaw is now a proud 1.2 kilograms and has apparently used that extra weight to become an "absolute menace." His family may have thought they weren't ready for another cat quite yet, but the CDS knew better.

Sometimes taking the wrong route gets you exactly where you're supposed to be.

We always try to put on our best faces when we go out in the world. No matter what mayhem might be happening in our pawsonal lives, once we step out the door, it is all left behind. Or so we like to think, because there are those days that no matter how much you might be channeling cute, you are simply too cranky. The concept of the scrungy cat is one that harks from the days of yore. The olden days when we used to prowl the pages of MySpace, listening to everyone's pirated profile song and of course chasing after cute cat pics and memes.
