How long would you spend trying to gain a stray cat's trust? 

Gaining a stray cat's trust is not an easy endeavour. Many of them, at best, have no interest in humans, and at worst, are terrified of humans - for good reasons. They live their lives the way that they know how, fighting for every bit of food, for shelter, for warmth. They do it because that is just how things are, and most of them don't know anything else. And although it's true that some cats decide to quit being a stray, decide to get adopted and by which person, a lot of them… don't. Because they don't know it's even an option. If we want to help a cat like that, it is up to us to take the risk, make the first move, and work for as long as it takes to gain their trust. 

We imagine that a lot of people would give up rather quickly. In today's story, it took three months of gentle coaxing for this stray cat to finally reach out. It's an unrewarding mission most of the time. You don't know if your work will pay off, if investing all that time will be worth it. We would have started doubting ourselves far sooner than at the three-month mark. But we do know that if you stick it out - for as long as it take - the reward is absolutely meowgical. The cat we'll be talking about today didn't just begrudgingly accept this random human's love after three months. No, she became obsessed with them. Finally, her walls came down, and she was able to trust the giant. And once that happened, all bets were off. Now, she's the cuddliest cat, spoiled by her humans every day, and she will never have to eat trash again. 

You don't need pep in your step, you need purr and some fur.

No matter how small the box is, a cat will always find a way to squeeze inside.

There is something about cats and boxes that I will never understand, but I also don't think I want to. It's one of those little things that makes having a cat so entertaining. You leave an empty cardboard box on the floor for five minutes, and suddenly, it belongs to them. It doesn't matter what was inside before. As far as your cat is concerned, you just brought home a brand-new piece of feline furniture.

And I find this extremely cute, especially because of how much money we can spend trying to make our cats comfortable. You can buy the softest bed in the store, one of those fancy little houses, a fluffy blanket, or even a cat tree that costs more than some of the furniture in your own home. But what are they going to choose? The box that came with it, of course. Apparently, cardboard is a luxury material when you're a cat.

What makes the whole thing even funnier is that the size of the box doesn't seem to matter at all. Cats have this incredible confidence that tells them they can fit anywhere. Sometimes, you look at a box and immediately know there is absolutely no way your cat is getting inside. Then, two minutes later, there they are, completely folded into it like they suddenly have no bones.

I genuinely don't know how they do it. They twist their legs, tuck their paws under themselves, bend their bodies into shapes that shouldn't be comfortable, and somehow look perfectly relaxed. Meanwhile, I'm uncomfortable if my pillow is slightly out of place.

Maybe that's why pictures of cats sitting in boxes never get old. Every cat seems to approach the challenge differently. Some curl up perfectly inside, others overflow from every side, and a few simply sit on top because, apparently, that counts too.

Sometimes all it takes is being in the right place at the right time, and suddenly you end up with a gift from the cat distribution system. 

There are moments that happen in our lives that make us think that there's some strange organization to life's events. You could be walking around your neighborhood and suddenly end up with a Burmese cat. That's exactly what happens in this story, when a woman is walking with a friend in his neighborhood and a collar-less kitten came up to them for pets. He friend pointed out the house where he thought the cat belonged to. The woman had a feeling about the kitten, and even though he could have had a family, she wanted to adopt him. The next weekend, the woman plucks up the courage to visit the house and ask what's going on with the cat. A moving van was out front and they were in the process of moving. She said to the guy that his cat is lovely, and wished him luck in the move. Then the unexpected happened, the guy actually offers her the cat! It's exactly what she wanted, and it all started to unfold around her. It just so happened that the mom didn't want the cat at the new place, so it was hers. She named the Burmese Poe after Poe Dameron, and the two live happily ever after. 

The cat still has a lot of behaviors from the street, like lifting bin lids, attempting to steal food from her plate, and meowing demands for breakfast and dinner. She loves him more than anything, and was just what she needed before she knew it. 

In this day and age you can expect to find dumped kittens in almost any and all locations that life might take you. Be it the mall, the museum, the market or the river as it was in this case, you never quite know where a lost kitten will meet you. The question is whether you are ready to meet it.

Now you might be wondering why we would ask such an obvious question, of course everyone is ready to meet the kitten of their life in a sweet meet cute that they totally weren't expecting. But as we come to find out in this story, if you have not thought things all the way through you might find yourself in a pawsition that your were not prepawed for as was the case for this couple when they suddenly found themselves questioning whether they should keep or rehome the kittens in their care. But our story does not start there, it begins on a quaint riverside trail with a couple walking their dog. Upon hearing some rustling in the grass they turned their attention to the direction from which the sound was coming and found themselves looking straight at two cute kittens who could not have been more than a few weeks old.

With no momma cat around and the evening drawing in the couple quickly got to work capturing the timid but friendly kittens so that they could bring them home and give them a safe place to lay their weary heads for a night. But as mentioned before this was about as far as this couple had thought about the kittens, assuming that they would rehome them and that would be the end of it. But after cuddles and purrs that made the fluffy felines fall asleep, feelings of love began to brew and a whole new set of problems arose. 
 

Nothing says "dinner was a success" quite like a cat waddling away from the bowl with a freshly filled soup belly.

Soup belly season is always in full swing when there are hungry felines around. One minute, you've got a perfectly normal-shaped cat yelling for dinner. A few noms later, you're looking at a suspiciously round creature who appears to have eaten the bowl along with the food.

Kittens might be the reigning soup belly champions. They're already working with very little real estate, so a good meal can turn that little tummy into a full-blown orb. Then they have the audacity to walk around like nothing happened. Sir, we can see where you put your entire dinner.

Of course, filling the soup belly is exhausting work. Once the bowl has been sufficiently cleared, it's usually time to find somewhere cozy and pass out. Preferably belly-up, so the hoomans can properly appreciate the results.

A well-fed soup belly is a beautiful sight, especially on a feline who once had to worry about where their next meal was coming from. Now the bowl is full, the tummy is round, and the only thing left on the schedule is a very serious nap.

That round belly also won't stop a cat from demanding dessert. The treat bag makes one little crinkle and suddenly your completely stuffed feline has found room for another course. Soup belly capacity apparently has different rules when snacks are involved.

Have you ever seen those medieval paintings featuring cats?

We all have, at least once. And our reaction has always been the same: "What is THAT?" Yeah, it seems like medieval painters had an interesting idea of what cats were supposed to look like, not at all what we expect to see in this century. 

Medieval painters were not exactly remembered for being super realistic; that came later on. But their representation of pets, and cats mostly, makes us wonder if all of them had issues with their eyesight. There's no way they looked at a real cat, then at their paintings and said: "Yeah, that definitely looks like the same cat." Their perception of reality might have been a little distorted. Or perhaps they ran out of candles while painting at night, and they kept going in pitch-black darkness and just hoped for the best. They didn't have Photoshop for fixing their mistakes, or even a lantern to make sure they were mixing the right colors. After all, they don't call it 'the dark ages' for nothing. Yes, we know it has nothing to do with electric light, but you get the joke. 

Distorted or not, they definitely made it fun to look at. We have cats that look like dogs, cats that look like dragons, cats in a full suit of armor, cats with human faces- you name it! Medieval people loved to insert their pets into their portraits, and they didn't have the internet to entertain themselves, so they got really creative in their spare time. The matter of skill must be a factor interfering here as well. Not to say that medieval painters weren't talented, but maybe they lacked a bit of understanding of animal anatomy or how to translate a living, breathing, three-dimensional being into paper. The same thing could happen with humans; it's not like those look much better. But at least we understand that they are humans! Everything starts going south when you can't figure out whether you're looking at a cat, a dog, a lizard, or a monkey. Because yes, in medieval painting all of those can be depicted in a suspiciously similar way. They may be some of the weirdest things we've seen, but also one of the most fun! This family had one feline-sized vacancy, and Sephy was more than happy to apply. 

Four months after losing their elderly cat, one family finally felt ready to welcome another feline into their lives. They didn't have to search very far. Their next family member was already hanging around the yard.

They first spotted the beautiful cat while out walking their dog. With a hoarder house across the street that had been home to generations of stray and feral cats, they assumed she had probably come from there. She disappeared, but not for long.

Over the next week, the cat kept returning. Her future pawrent started calling to her whenever she appeared, and each encounter brought a little more trust. She got closer, became more comfortable, and slowly went from random backyard visitor to a familiar face they hoped to see again.

There was still one important question to answer before bringing her inside: did she already belong to someone?

A conversation with the neighbors confirmed that she was indeed a stray and needed a home. That was all this family needed to hear. The backyard visitor officially moved indoors and received a name worthy of her striking looks: Persephone, or Sephy for short.

The timing makes Sephy's arrival even sweeter. Her family hadn't rushed into adopting again after their senior cat passed, and they weren't actively trying to fill the house with the first feline they could find. They waited until opening their hearts again felt right.

Then Sephy started showing up.

She had an entire neighborhood to wander through, yet she kept returning to the yard belonging to people who were finally ready to say yes to another cat. Whether that was luck, excellent feline judgment, or another successful Cat Distribution System delivery, Sephy clearly picked the right address.

How do you add flavor to your morning coffee?

We all have a routine we follow when we wake up in the meowrning. Some spend the first few minutes after they wake up aimlessly scrolling through their phones, some go straight to the bathroom to brush their teeth, some even immediately change into their workout clothes and head to the gym. For us, the first thing we always think of when we open our eyes is a sweet cup of coffee. Otherwise, we would not be able to even start the day. The problem is that the fact that coffee is the first thing that comes to our mind once we get out of bed does not sit well with our cat, who believes that our first priority should always be, you guessed it, him. 

He's a spoiled little fiesty feline, but since he has an automatic feeder, we know that he only complains because he wants attention, which can wait after we make our much-needed energy supplier. So while we make our wonderful, steaming cup of coffee, our cat screams at the top of his lungs in protest of not getting enough attention, which has basically become white noise at this point. He only calms down when we finally sit down with our coffee, and he gets to rub his face in ours, ensuring that our coffee gets its hefty side of cat hair. It's funny how we have our routine, and he has his, and we eventually meet in the middle and find common ground. 

Even though it might sounds like we are complaining, we actually love spending time with our cat first thing in the morning, and we enjoy his company while we sip our coffee. He makes facing the rest of the day not look so threatening, and even though he will never admit it, he is just a sweet baby. Aside from the wonderful meowrning coffee experience with our baby boy, we also enjoy scrolling through some hissterical cat memes, like those that are waiting for you down below.

Raise your hand if you are someone who has a cat, wants to have babies one day, and is terrified of the two not being literal friends. I would raise my hand. This has been a worry of mine for the longest time, and I suppose that until I actually have a child, I will never know how things will turn out. My worst fear is my cat and my baby not getting along. As someone who looks for stories about cats and writes about them for a living, I have seen too many stories of people rehoming cats for all kinds of reasons, and I cannot imagine ever having to do that with mine, even if the worst happens. But I've also seen many, many stories like the one I have for you today. 

Cats and babies. Two precious and adorable things together. Yes, I'm worried about my cat and my future baby hating each other, but it's stories like these that really give me hope. Some cats love babies. Not just "like", not just "tolerate", some cats really do love human babies. It's hard to explain exactly why. Maybe they can tell that we love our babies, and so they think they should love them too. Maybe a baby's milky, soft and warm smell is something that cats are attracted to. We don't care why. We just think that it's the sweetest thing in the world. 

The cat in today's video clearly loves this baby. Every night, the cat cuddles with the baby in its crib, and the owners, despite trying to separate the two ad make sure that they are together only when there is someone supervising, can't stop it every time. They have accepted the fact that this cat has adopted their baby and that she belongs to the baby just as much as she belongs to them. They are one big adorable family, and we can only hope that is in our cards as well. 

When a cat unexpectedly loses its owner, nothing matters except mending the cat's broken heart. 

We always say that there could be nothing worse than losing our kitties. The older my cat gets, the more I think about this moment, the more I worry about her and about myself. She's my soul cat, my first cat after having never grown up with pets, and this cat has saved my life and helped me get through so, so much. The thought of her leaving me is unbearable, but it's not the worst. The worst option would be me leaving her. 

For a cat to lose its owner… there could be nothing worse. The cat doesn't understand. As far as the cat is concerned, one day, out of nowhere, their owner, who has been their everything for so long, just leaves. And doesn't come back. We imagine that it feels more like betrayal than anything else. Like abandonment. And their heart breaks just as much as ours does after a loss. All that matters after that is mitigating the cat's pain as much as possible, mending the cat's broken heart. 

For the cat in today's story, there weren't too many options. Her owner suddenly passed, and it was either go home with the owner's sister or be sent to a shelter. And we all know what it's like for older cats in shelters - lonely, waiting sometimes for years for another person to give them a chance. Now, the sister wanted to take the cat, but she was faced with a problem. Both her roommates are allergic. Thankfully, we are talking about good people today, and even these two allergic roommates could not let this cat be sent away to some shelter to be alone. They took her in with open arms and pink noses, and everyone in the house fell in love with her. 

Is it hot out there, or is it just me?

I know that summer is the hottest season, I've lived through 36 of them to know that much. But every year, I'm surprised by simply how hot it gets outside. It feels like I could cook an egg on the sidewalk, and in some places, that's not even an exaggeration. Seriously, how did people survive before air conditioning? It's like walking through the Sahara Desert daily on my way to work, and even the thought of it makes me want to call in "sick" and stay home with my cats. To be fair, though, I want to do that even when it's not boiling hot outside.

There are some things I simply can't do when I'm too hot, like running, sightseeing, or literally anything outside. I'm too uncomfortable and sweaty to enjoy myself, so I stick to staying inside where it's nice and cool. You know what is a great activity to do indoors? Scrolling through some refreshing feline funnies. You know what's even better than that? Scrolling through some funny felines while petting my cat, on my couch, in front of the AC. Ahhhhh, that's better.

When the sizzling summer heat has fully melted your last brain cell, cat memes are the only place left to go. You can scroll through them while sitting down, while rotating like a rotisserie chicken in front of the air conditioning for maximum chill, or lying on your bathroom tiles to feel their natural coolness seep into your overheated body. If you must go outside, you had better at least cool yourself down with these frigid felines and their silliness before your life becomes a literal sauna. 

But if I were you, I'd stay inside and scroll a little longer.

Cats have been living the rock star lifestyle long before anyone handed them a guitar. 

They already have the attitude down. A cat can walk into a room twenty minutes late, refuse to acknowledge anyone, knock something expensive onto the floor, and still somehow remain the coolest one there. That's not bad behavior. That's rock star behavior.

Put a guitar anywhere near a feline and the album cover practically makes itself. Suddenly you're looking at the newest member of Meowtallica, Purrvana, or Guns N' Kittens preparing to drop the hottest record of the year. The dramatic stare helps. So does the floof. Give them a leather jacket and there's really no competition left.

Concert life wouldn't be much of an adjustment either. Cats have been practicing their vocals at 3 a.m. for years, usually without being asked. They've mastered dramatic entrances, unexpected exits, and ignoring requests from management. Their idea of crowd interaction would probably involve staring silently into the audience until someone produced a treat.

We'd still be standing in the front row.

A feline rock festival would be worth seeing just for the lineup. The Rolling Scones could open before Def Leppurrd takes the stage, followed by Blink-18Meow for an emotional set that ends with someone destroying a scratching post instead of a guitar. Fall Out Purr closes the night while one band member wanders offstage halfway through because an empty cardboard box looked interesting.

Rock 'n' roll is supposed to be loud, unpredictable, and packed with personality, which sounds pretty familiar to anyone sharing a home with a cat. They may never learn an actual guitar chord, but they've already mastered the most important part: looking like they belong onstage.

All that's left is figuring out who gets top billing on the meowsic festival poster.

If you plant a cat in a flower pot and give it enough sunshine, eventually it grows into a full-sized feline.

Cats have never been particularly concerned with using things for their intended purpose, and flower pots are no exception. Forget the pet bed sitting five feet away. A round container filled with dirt is clearly the better place to curl up, watch the world go by, and become the prettiest thing growing in the garden.

Seeing a furry head pop up between the flowers certainly makes gardening more interesting. One minute you're checking whether the plants need water, and the next you're wondering when your garden started growing whiskers. This particular variety prefers treats, head scratches, and uninterrupted naps, so putting away the watering can is probably a good idea.

A sunny garden already has everything a feline could ask for. There are warm spots for afternoon naps, leaves to inspect, bugs to watch, and plenty of opportunities to supervise the hoomans doing all the actual gardening. The flower pot just gives them the perfect seat for the occasion.

The real question is how long it takes for a cat to fully bloom. The growing process begins with squeezing into a pot that looks far too small and eventually ends with paws, tails, and floof spilling over every side. Repotting might be necessary, although convincing a comfortable cat to move is another challenge entirely.

Flowers may bring plenty of color to a garden, but it's hard to compete with a pair of ears poking out between the petals. We wouldn't mind discovering this special feline variety growing outside our window every morning.

Forget having a green thumb. Give us a garden full of toe beans and whiskers instead.

Sometimes the family member you didn't expect is exactly the one you need. 

After her youngest brother headed off to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, one woman found herself sitting with the emotions that come from watching your family grow up. A week filled with goodbyes had finally come to an end, the house felt noticeably quieter, and she was left wondering what this next chapter would look like. Then an energetic little cat came running into her life and refused to be ignored.

The friendly feline had plenty of personality but wasn't quick to trust. She would run over with her loudest little meow before keeping a careful distance, turning every interaction into a slow game of patience. Rather than rushing to catch her, the woman spent days earning that trust, waiting until she could safely bring the cat in without causing unnecessary stress.

That patience paid off.

The kitten eventually found a home, a full belly, and a name that couldn't have been more fitting: Annie, inspired by Annapolis, the place her younger brother had just begun his own adventure.

Big life changes have a way of making a house feel different. Siblings move away, routines disappear, and familiar chapters quietly come to an end. Then, every once in a while, something unexpected arrives at exactly the right moment.

Annie didn't erase the sadness of saying goodbye, but she filled the quiet with playful zoomies, loud meows, and a brand-new routine. Instead of focusing on an empty house, her new human was busy earning trust, handing out meals, and getting to know the little cat who had suddenly become part of the family.

Whether you believe in the Cat Distribution System or not, it's hard to ignore the timing. Just as one family member left to begin a new chapter, another showed up looking for one of her own.

It is not often that a feline rescue involves more than one cat, let alone the 12 kittens that were saved from being put to sleep in this rescue story. So you can imagine that whatever may happen, we are in for a wild ride with this one.

In keeping with the unique nature of this story, the kittens in question were not even dumped on our rescuer's property as usually happens. They were found by animal control on the back neighbor's property, and when our rescuer stepped out to see what the hubbub was about she came to understand that 12 tiny kittens were about to be sent to sleep furever, not even being given a chance to enjoy all the churus and tummy skritches that this life holds for them. Despite the overwhelming amount of kittens our rescuer decided that she would take the responsibility and at least for the moment give these kittens a chance to at least learn to enjoy a cuddle.

This is where the hard work began and our rescuer essentially did not sleep for 72 hrs, giving the kittens round the clock care while also trying to find suitable homes to send them to before they are left with no other choice than to be surrendered to the shelter. A fate which their rescuer really did not want to befall them, but one that might end up being an unfortunate eventuality. Thankfully, this is a story with a happy ending, one that shows the true colors of the cat lovers community and what we feline fans are truly willing to do for feline kind.
 

Friends can come in many shapes, forms, and floof levels.

I love seeing odd friendships form, and I have some of these myself. For example, both my best friend and I are extremely headstrong - the type of people you wouldn't expect getting along, but clashing every day. Well, we clash friendlily, and we do so for more than half our lives. Moreover, he has this amazing ability of not giving a darn about things that don't matter - while I overthink every little thing like it was a main plot device. I think his way is healthier. Also, I tend to seek the full half of the glass, but he's a consistent pessimist. We're so different, but also similar, and not the most obvious best of friends. But, hey, we are.

But some very odd friendships can form between animals, specifically our pets. When you bring a set of animals home to raise as pets, you effectively create an ecosystem that needs to sustain itself on the social level. And since being friends with "your tribe" is a clear evolutionary advantage that's instilled in us all, we can see floofy friendships blossom between our cats and dogs - which is exactly what happens in this cat and dog BFF online community. It's demonstrated so well that it actually reminded me of myself and my best friend. It's just natural that the next step is going to be sharing this profound revelation with the pawrent community.

You would never think of cats and dogs becoming true BFFs until you see it with your own eyes. And I saw. These are some precious pairs of cuties, and their stories are just as wholesome to match. I swear my smile didn't fade for one bit reading about them and seeing the pictures. They all made me realize that maybe, just maybe, my best friend and I have the same sort of friendship.

Cats make us feel good, and that's a sure purr fact.

It's hard not to fall completely in love with cats, especially when they give us all this amount of love back. Cats greet us at the door, no matter what kind of day we've had. Cats are happy to be petted, which is like the ultimate cortisol lower-er. Cats are just happy to be around us, which in turn makes us as happy as we could be. It's a full feline circle feedback loop of joy just to have your cat around.

Chance and happenstance are all around us. Sometimes life makes you shrug your shoulders and say, "huh, isn't that something." With all the strange moments that feel fated, ironic, and bizarre, it's no wonder we have to believe something's out there. Of course, anyone can say it's random happenings, but there's another perspective, and that's one where coincidences don't exist. What we believe to be a coincidence is just giving a name to magic in the fabric of the universe. There's no test at the end of life if you knew something to be true or not, and sometimes it's better to believe in a little bit of that sense of magic. In the story here, that kind of magic does persist, and it's important to acknowledge. 

This person has been feeding a mama cat for some time. He's on his way to the animal shelter to adopt a cat of his own, when lo and behold he sees in his yard three kittens with the mama cat. After some time she stopped showing up and left her kittens behind. He thought that there's only one reason for her to do this on the day he wanted to adopt, and that's that the cat distribution system fated him with the kittens that she can't take care of. He takes all of them in. It's a process to train them and tame them, because they're feral and untrusting. They're used to being outside, but he uses food as a temptation method to get closer to them. They're sweethearts now, and they're one big happy family. The Tuxedo is skittish, but also loves pets. The black cat is a Velcro cat who just wants love. This guy is just so grateful that he got kittens exactly how he wanted, and he didn't even have to go to the shelter! Life is strange, so embrace it.
