You learn something new everyday, and today it's that tortie cats are almost always female. 

Every cat breed has their own unique qualities. For tortie cats it's that they're more sassy than other cats, highly independent and unpredictable. It's no wonder they're known for their "tortitude." Their cultural significance varies, but if you're in the United States then they represent financial wealth, but if you're in Japan they're known to ward off evil spirits. Despite their symbolism, they're definitely some beautiful and unique cats and their fur patterns are like a mosaic work of art. In the story here, a couple recently moves to Arizona, and everyone knows how hot it is in Arizona. They find a tortie frequenting their property and laying on their porch. After closer inspection, they think she might be pregnant. They have cats of their own, but didn't know about tortie's being almost all female before this. Because of the heat of the Arizona sun, they figure that they shouldn't leave a stray and potentially pregnant cat outside like this. They promptly make a vet appointment so they can take her in their home and let her live in AC and peace. It's a wholesome story, and it's never too late to learn something new or have a new experience. The cat distribution system strikes again, and with a multitude of kittens from a pregnant cat! 

Even in the darkest hours, you can always find someone willing to lend you a hand (or a leg…)

In nature, it is rare to hear stories of the runt or the weakest member of a family surviving or thriving. Sure, we all grew up with stories like Tarzan and The Jungle Book, where even a human manages to survive in the jungle, but we all know that these stories start and end as a mere fairy tale. In reality, the wild is a rough place to be in, and those who were born without the right "qualification" don't often make it.

So when a kitten is born with a birth defect in her leg, she doesn't stand much of a chance to live a successful life out on the street. There is only so much her mom can do for her, and if she is struggling to keep up with the rest of the litter, she will most likely be left behind.

That seems to be the case for the sweet 3-legged kitten below. She was found in a bush by a lovely couple near their house, and she was all alone in there. Luckily, we humans don't live by the same rules as wild animals in nature, and when we see someone in need, we want to help out and make sure they live a full life despite their limitations. When the couple found the obviously injured kitten in a bush and saw that she was all alone, they knew that the only chance she had at survival was if they took her in.

And so they did. Their first stop was at the vet to see if there was anything that could be done to save the defective leg. The doctor confirmed that the injury was probably something the kitten was born with, but assured the couple that it wouldn't stop the kitten from living a healthy life, as long as they took care of her. The rest of the story, we hope, would not surprise you.

Usually, orange cats have plenty of skull but no brain cells inside to protect. For Otter, it was the opposite.

Even after nearly 6 years of being an editor for I Can Has Cheezburger, cats still surprise me. It's not just the heartwarming rescue stories filled with kind people, or the cats that are born with rare fur patterns and unique colorings, but how resilient felines are that gets me. Indoor cats can survive for years being lost outside and eventually find their way back to their pawrents, never once giving up. They can carry a whole litter of kittens in the scorching summer heat, give birth, and then find a way to bring their kittens to a wholesome hooman to hopefully give them a chance to live their best lives. 

An Instagram page called @General.knowledge.booster posted Otter's story, and we couldn't resist sharing it with you. Otter was born with an incomplete skull, meaning that part of his brain (yes, he did have one despite popular opinion) was left exposed. Acting quickly, volunteers 3D-printed him a custom helmet to purrtect his tiny head. When he was old enough, he was able to get a special procedure that implanted some titanium to close up his head fur good and keep him safe. Now, Otter is helmet-free and is the happiest little guy his pawrents could ask for.

The life of a cat can be heartbreaking, but it doesn't have to be that way if we use our compassion and hooman brains to intervene. We did that for Otter, and look at him now! He's a fully functioning cat (as much as an orange cat can be), and with a titanium skull that makes him the closest thing to Wolverine we'll have anytime soon. A soft, cuddly, and adorable Wolverine… and we think he should be cast in the new X-Men movie. Just saying.

The cat distribution system will always work in mysterious ways. Watch out for the signs and symbols from the universe and remember to keep worshipping cats. 

We can never predict what the universe has in store for us, but what we can do is be aware of our surroundings. There are whispers in the wind, and messages in the sand. It depends what you make of it. Being in the right place at the right time isn't pure luck, it also comes from worldly ponderings and existential questions, a curiosity we can't refuse and a childlike perspective of everything. Believing the impossible means you might experience the impossible in miraculous ways. In this story, a specific little kitty was in the right place at the right time, that being a small Mac repair shop on the narrow streets of Athens, Greece. 

The owner saw the cat outside. It was February 24th, which happens to be Steve Job's birthday. This owner knows a sign from the universe when he sese one. The cat stumbles into the shop, and since it was a Mac shop of Steve Job's birthday, he hired the little fellow and named him Steve. He's the official CEO (cat executive officer) and he's responsible for quality control and the purring department. Here at I Can Has Cheezburger we think he'll be the best CEO there ever was! Honey went from running at the sight of a hooman to running the house.

Reddit user Expert-Nose1893 recently shared Honey's transformation on Reddit's r/catdistributionsystem subreddit, and it all started with a nervous visitor on the porch. Two years ago, Honey wanted absolutely nothing to do with people. The moment she realized a human was nearby, she bolted. She kept coming back, though, and each visit brought her a little closer.

Her future pawrent had plenty of food and even more patience, letting Honey decide when she was ready to trust. Eventually, pets were allowed. Even then, Honey kept her feelings close to her fluffy chest. It took an entire month of petting before she finally let out her little raspy purr. For a formerly feral feline, that was a pretty big vote of confidence.

After Honey was TNR'd, she was released outside, but apparently she had already chosen her territory. She barely left the porch. Naturally, the accommodations started improving. A bed appeared, followed by a heated house, toys, and basically anything else Honey could request. She may have technically been an outdoor cat, but she already had staff.

Then winter arrived. Seeing Honey curled into a ball in her heated house was enough to earn her invitations indoors. One night became another until Honey eventually came inside and simply never left.

We'd say she negotiated that transition beautifully.

These days, Honey is making up for lost time by living like absolute feline royalty. It's a pretty impressive career change for a former feral cat who once wouldn't even stick around for pets.

From scared porch visitor to spoiled house cat, Honey took her time getting there, but she definitely picked the right person to trust.

Cats decide where their home is, not the humans. 

When we talk about the CDS being real, we're not just saying things. We believe in this. If our own stories weren't enough… if my cat following me on Independence Day and then never having another day of independence in her life is not a sign of the CDS existing, then I don't know what is. If my husband's cat following him home on his birthday, him putting her back out and saying that if she comes in one more time, he's not letting her go, and then her coming in once again is not a sign of the CDS… then same thing. But if that's not enough, there are certainly more than enough stories online to prove our point, including the story of Gilgamesh, which was shared on Reddit by user sn000by. 

On one very hot sunny day, sn000by found a kitten on their roof. They were going through a tough period in their life, and this felt like a sign. A meowgical moment. A CDS delivery, straight home. They rescued the kitten and instantly fell in love and wanted to keep her. But they did their due diligence first and posted about the kitten online. A few hours later, kids showed up at their door, thanking them for finding their cat. And the kitten was reunited with her owners. And so, the dream remained a dream. 

Except, the kitten kept coming back. Again and again, she would escape the neighbor's home and make her way to this other human. They, of course, kept returning her. Until one day, the neighbors came over and made that dream come true. The neighbors asked them if they could adopt their kitten. Because it's not us who get to choose our cats. Our cats choose us. 

Some people do not deserve cats. 

We have said it before, and we will say it again - abandoning a cat is one of the worst things that you can possibly do to them. It should be avoided at all costs. Cats bond with their humans. Just the one or a few humans. It is a rare thing for a cat to be able to bond with everyone. And when they are abandoned by that one or those few people - the only people that they trust - their faith in humans is broken. With Cavity, the cat whose story was shared on Reddit, that was exactly what had happened. 

Cavity's story was not a simple abandonment story. His owner loved him and wanted him. Abandonment was never an option with her. But when this elderly owner was moved to a senior care facility, she was not able to take her cat with her. And so, the cat was left with her family, but her family did not want to keep her. We said abandonment was one of the worst things you can do to a cat. What they did was the other worst thing - instead of trying to find this senior cat a home, they took the cat to a vet to have it euthanized. 

The vet, thankfully, refused. Because the cat was entirely healthy. They kept the kitty at the hospital instead. But the kitty was heartbroken and grew aggressive. The workers there tried to find him a home and couldn't, because he didn't believe in humans anymore. Until, one day, Reddit user notabruinsfan, started working there. And something clicked. Suddenly, Cavity opened up and decided that this human was one worth believing in.

Here we are again, starting one more week in this world of chaos. Work is awaiting, responsibilities are here, so many tasks have our name on them, and yet, here we are, lying in bed, ignoring the fact that our alarm clock went off five minutes ago and just waiting for something to give us the motivation to get out of bed. Well, here it is, friends. Here is your sign. Here you have the purrfect thing that will make you smile in no time. Cute and funny cats from the internet. But to enjoy the benefits of that, you may or may not have to stay in bed for a couple more minutes.

We, as writers at ICHC, have made it our job to keep up with cats. All the news, all the cat memes, all the viral cat stuff. We know that we are privileged in that way, that not everyone can say that they follow internet cats for a living. But all of us - all cat people - want to keep up with cats. We just don't all have time for it. Real life is time-consuming, as much as we want it not to be. That is why we are all here, because we - as the writers at ICHC - have decided to help you all by creating our weekly collection of the most viral cat Tweets to hit the web. That's one social media platform down. A couple of minutes, and you will be getting out of bed with a smile. 

It is no big secret that no one wants to go back to work. The weekend was a whole heap of fun and now the idea of sitting down behind a desk for hours on end sounds less appealing than stepping in and having to clean up your cat's sick at 3am. But here we are.

This life is not always glamorous but that does not mean that we cannot find small ways for ourselves to still enjoy it and all the things it has to offer. Much like this prework moment you find yourself in. Sure, the burden of your boss is looming over you and you know that the moment you set foot in the office they will be all over you. But until such a time you can still enjoy the comfort of these cute cat memes to make the moments prior to that madness, just that little bit sweeter.

Sadly, the use of boxes to dump kittens on roads is not unique to this story, but a common tactic used all over the world. What is unique to this story though is how well informed our rescuer was and just how far away from society these kittens were abandoned.

Tuxedo cats are not the first kind of feline you might expect to be dumped, a thought that must have crossed our cycling rescuer u/angelofsquirrels mind when laying his eyes upon the felines for the first time. But then again, it is not all too ordinary to dump kittens in a box on one of the quietest roads you can find. At very least as a dumper of cats you might consider leaving them in a well populated area so that someone finds them. But it seems that the very nature of where they were placed is also what got them saved and landed in the purrfect furever home.

Once they were found, our rescuer got straight to work, not hesitating for a moment. He knew already that shelters were not an option as these poor babies would be put to sleep due to overcrowding. So it was up to him to either leave the kittens behind and hope for the best or take them with him and hope he does not foster fail and end up keeping them. But let's be frank here. No cat loving pawson who rides a bike for miles with cats in a box on his back is going to be able to pass such cute creatures onto someone else. By the time they got home they had bonded and the rest is history. 
 

What do all cats have in common? They love boxes.

It will always be a mystery for us, mere hoomans, why cats have such an obsession with boxes. The second you place a cardboard box on the floor, they jump inside and declare it their new favourite place to sit, sleep, and play. Doesn't matter that we just got them a new comfy bed for them to use: they will go to the box.

That's a recurring thing with our cats: no matter how much money we spend on buying them toys and accessories, they always seem to choose to play with trash. Boxes, sticks, bottle caps, you name it! If it's useless and lying around the house, they will claim it as their toy. We might as well just stop spending half of our salaries on buying them stuff; they will ignore their actual toys anyway.

The box thing must have an explanation, though. Our best guess is that it must have to do with the heat. In the middle of summer, they also feel hot, just like us. Their comfy beds might be a little too warm to sleep on, so they go to the boxes that are probably a bit fresher. That's our take for the summer season, but we're still completely clueless about why they do it during the rest of the year. Someone must have the definitive answer. Some people say it's because boxes make them feel safe. We would think that their own beds should make them feel safe as well, but oh well. There must be some superior cat logic playing there that us simpletons will never understand.

The beauty of it is that we don't really need to understand. All we want is our furry babies to feel happy, comfortable, and to have fun with whatever they want. That, as long as they don't make a mess of our furniture. If that means they're going to jump into a box every time we bring one from the store or get it in the mail, so be it. They get to play and feel safe, while we get entertained watching them jump, scratch, and be themselves. In the meantime, here we have a collection of cat photos with that same passion: getting inside boxes.

Why settle for one adorable cat when the universe can hit copy and paste?

Cat twins have clearly taken the whole "copycat" thing a little too literally. Matching fur, matching faces, matching poses, and sometimes even matching expressions make these feline duos look like somebody duplicated the same cat. Put them side by side and suddenly you're questioning whether you're looking at two kitties or experiencing some sort of feline glitch in the matrix.

Living with matching cats must come with its own set of challenges. Imagine calling one name and having two identical faces turn around. Someone knocks a glass off the counter? Good luck identifying the culprit when both suspects come equipped with the same whiskers and equally convincing innocent expressions. Unless one of them cracks under questioning, that case is going cold.

The synchronized behavior only makes things better. Two cats curled into the same sleeping position can look like they rehearsed it beforehand. Matching loaves become a feline bakery two-for-one special, while coordinated judgment means getting twice the side-eye for whatever offense their hooman has committed.

Even when they aren't actually related, cats with matching coats have a way of looking like they came straight off the same assembly line. There's something especially cute about seeing two little faces with the same markings staring back at you, particularly when their personalities turn out to be completely different.

For everyone else, though, these copycats have us doing a double take. There's also something pretty sweet about having a built-in feline bestie around at all times. There's always someone nearby for a cuddle, a wrestling match, or an important 3 AM meeting in the hallway. Whether they're partners in crime or competing for the best spot on the couch, life with two cats means there's rarely a dull moment.

The Cat Distribution System has officially confirmed that nowhere is outside its delivery zone.

Moving somewhere with barely any neighbors might make you think you're safely outside the Cat Distribution System's delivery zone. Apparently, there is no such thing.

One couple moved into their new home in January, settling into a rural area where feline visitors weren't exactly expected. Then they woke up one morning and found a tiny face peering through the back door from their deck.

That is one way to introduce yourself.

The little guy didn't stick around for a formal hello. He darted into the flower beds, sending his surprised new hoomans searching for him. Luckily, they managed to find the tiny runaway and bring him inside, which is when the CDS delivery really started to feel official.

He was understandably scared at first, but it didn't take long for him to start warming up to all the attention. Now he's inside, safe, and surrounded by two people who seem more than happy to accept their unexpected delivery. A vet appointment is already at the top of the agenda, and this tiny guy seems to have landed on exactly the right back deck.

We have to admire the CDS commitment here. No busy neighborhood full of stray cats? No problem. No nearby houses to serve as potential feline distribution centers? Still not an issue. This kitten apparently received the coordinates, showed up on the correct deck, and even peeked through the door to make sure somebody noticed the package waiting outside.

There was no adoption search, shelter visit, or plan to bring home a cat. Just one tiny feline appearing at the back door and two hoomans willing to open it.

Never underestimate the Cat Distribution System. Rural delivery is clearly included.

With twins, a senior dog, four cats, and two geckos, this California couple's house was full. But you know who doesn't care about any of that? The Cat Distribution System.

It's always the meowment when you say "no more" of something that the universe sends you that exact same thing to challenge your defiance. It's just a small reminder that as much as we try to control every aspect of our lives, there are some things that are more important than control. Like helping someone (or something) that can't help themselves, especially when they didn't deserve to deal with the cards that life dealt them. Stray cats are the purrfect example of this - some were born strays, some became strays because their pawrents left them behind, or some were forced to live outside because they weren't wanted anymore. No cat deserves to be scrounging for food outside, and yet, the stray cat population worldwide is larger than ever.

But thankfully, there are people out there who are always willing to help, no matter how full their plate already is. After promptly saying "no more cats", an NICU nurse's husband found a 1-week-old kitten baking on a sidewalk in the California sun on a 110-degree summer day. He brought the tiny kitten home, and he and his nurse wife named him 'Bubbles'. The nurse, also known as peachtheturtle on r/Cats, woke up every two hours to feed this motherless kitten, in between waking up to feed her own twins and take care of their other pets. 

She may have sacrificed a lot of sleep, but it seems that it was all worth it. Bubbles has already doubled in weight, and soon, he will open his eyes and finally see his new family for the first time. He may have been given a rough start, but thanks to the open hearts of this kind family, he'll hopefully never know pain or sadness ever again.

Moms know best…that's why this one finally let the plump man in. 

We all know the taxing, daunting responsibilities of having kittens. Not everyone is equipped to handle taking care of a kitten. There's so much work that goes into it and it's a constant job that doesn't stop. You always have to make sure the kitten is okay, that he or she isn't tearing up furniture or falling off a bed. So when you have more than one kitten, it can feel like the world is crushing you. But that's where family comes in. With family members to help you, it's easier to have control over the situation and enough hands on deck to help. Like in the story here, where a family already has kittens and they recently got them. Then one day a sufficiently plump orange cat comes to their porch wearing a flea collar, so obviously he knows what it's like to be with people to some extent. They claim he has barely left the porch at all, and they even tried not feeding him initially. But alas, their efforts to deter the cat distribution system were met with mirth and laughter from the CDS higher powers. This orange fluff didn't leave, and so they decided enough is enough and that they should feed him anyway. No cat or person seems to be looking for him, so they want to take him to a vet. 

One family member in particular is very attached, and he wants to bring the cat inside the house. The caveat? You guessed it, the recent adoption of kittens. Is a fourth kitten the right decision? The back and forth between wanting to keep him and knowing the amount of intense work it'll be keeps the family from making a decision. When suddenly the mom of the house makes an executive decision that they can keep the cat, so they have scheduled a vet appointment and named him. Would you take in the little fluff ball? Life doesn't always work out in the ways we want or expect, but we can still appreciate the love we've been given. 

Life is full of ambiguous meanings, deeper symbolism that we can barely understand. Sometimes it feels like we're living in a movie, and other times it can feel like we're just here for the ride. But when we have touches of love around us, it can keep us happy and going strong for longer than we expected. Sometimes all we have are memories to appreciate, and when we're slighted by life's cruelty, it's important to have those memories to comfort us on darker days. Found in the rain by the side of the road, a six week old kitten cries for comfort. In this Reddit story, the people who found her say they growled when they first fed her, and she growled ever since. She picked on the other two cats she lived with, and she was pretty stingy about people petting her, but snuggled up to them in bed every night. She had a favorite human, and it was the son. In two weeks this family was supposed to move. They were already preparing to make all of their cats indoor cats, but for the time being the cats were all indoor and outdoor. A common decision as a pet owner, but a potentially risky one. One dark day, a car hit her and she crossed the rainbow bridge. This family will never forget everything the cat did for them, and they know that this little kitten will be around playing in the garden forever. 

"If I fits, I sits" - all cats ever. 

All cats are different, that is true, but there is one law that applies to all of them. If they fits, they sits. All of them. Each and every one. Place a box anywhere in the house, and your cat will sit in that box. It could be a box on the floor, on the couch, or on your kitchen table - it doesn't matter. They will find it and they will sit in it. 

And even those cats who don't have an affinity for boxes specifically will still be meowgically attracted to other containers. Anything that feels mildly constrictive is something they want to put their whole body into. Bags, hats, baskets, bowls, baby cribs. And you guys, our ICHC audience, know this and have come to prove this with pictures of your own adorable cats once again. 

Cats have the meowgical power of bringing people together. 

The cat community online is one of the strongest and most consistent that we have ever seen. For years - decades, even - cats have been ruling the internet with funny cat memes and cute cat pictures. Everyone knows this, we all acknowledge this, and not a single one of us fights it. Because cats are good. They're purrfect and pawsitive and uplifting. Cats have been bringing people together since the beginning of time. From giant statues in Egypt to people making memes together, all the way to reuniting exes. 

We always tell couples that adopting a cat together is a big responsibility. It is not something to be done spontaneously. If you're just dating, you may be having a good time now, but that doesn't mean that you will in a month or a year, and adopting a cat is a very long-term commitment. If you don't break up - fabulous. But if you do, the first one to suffer will be the cat. The cat doesn't understand relationship rules or breakups. All the cat knows that it's been adopted by two people, and then one of them is gone, and just because it's only one of the two doesn't make the abandonment any less painful. 

It's painful to the people involved in the relationship too. Custody battles over cats are horrible. You never forget the feline and what it brought into your life, not even ten years later, like the ex-couple in this story proved. After 10 whole years of silence, the ex who kept the cat they adopted together reached out to the one who didn't, told her that the kitty has only a few days left until she crosses the rainbow bridge, and offered that she take a walk with the kitty and say goodbye. And the ex was ecstatic. 

You know what you need some more of in your life? Meowgic. 

It's chaos out there, we don't know if you have noticed. Don't look out the window. Chances are that the world is burning all around you. Or at least, that is what social media has us thinking. Everything is heightened, everything is dramatized, and we're so addicted that we see all of it. And that cannot be healthy for us. 

Back in the day, the internet was meowgical. It was all cat memes and silly and cute cat pictures. That's what we used to be addicted to, and that used to be good for us. Well, you know what? All of that is still online. You just don't see enough of it because it gets drowned out by everything else. But it's still there. Cats still rule the internet. Every social media platform is filled with all of that ameowzing cat content, if you only look hard enough. But of course, we won't encourage you to go onto the social media battlefield any more than you already do.
