This is one of those sweet stories where it's the cat who finds their human, and not the human who finds the cat. Sometimes the cat distribution system sends an adorable kitten beside your son at the bus stop. When that happens, you have no option. You have to take her home. 

When you are the chosen one, a short walk home can become an unexpected kitten rescue. You only had slippers to take the cat? Well, then, put it inside your slipper! The cat distribution system doesn't send a calendar invitation. There's no way you could be prepared for this, so you have to adapt and use whatever you have at hand at the moment. This woman had a slipper, and she wasn't afraid to use it. Nobody brings kitten rescue supplies when picking up their child at the bus stop.

The kitten was dangerously close to the street, so the boy's mom felt she had to take the tiny cat somewhere safer. She carried the kitten in the slipper and took her home. The kitten fit inside perfectly and felt safer than being alone in the street. Once she was safe at home, the boy's mom gave her something to eat and quickly started working on better accommodations. 

When you find a vulnerable animal stranded on the street, there's no way you can leave it like that. Or at least I feel that way. If I can't adopt the animal, at least I can take it home for the day and find a proper owner. That might have been the original plan of this mom, but after taking so much care of the kitten, the kitty started to grow on her. She made her a temporary bed; she bought her food and toys; she made her interact with his dog… She realized she was clearly getting attached. So much so that she ended up naming her Ivy. Such a cute name.  

Summer is almost over, but the sun is still putting in overtime. 

August is officially almost at an end. Summer. It's nearly behind us. All the heat outside, the freezing AC inside. Or at least it should be. Because for some reason, the sun is still showing off like it has something to prove. Like September isn't invited. Like it pays rent here. Enough. Yes, we love the ice cream, and the iced coffees, and watching our cats bathe in every sunspot in the house. But enough is enough. We are ready for summer to be over.

We're ready, but the sun is not. It's still shining down bright, and just like throughout the rest of summer, we are over here, barely surviving with the help of the most pawsome cat memes on the internet. We always think cats are angry and secretly judging us, and they are, but they also have moments of happiness!

Happiness doesn't look the same for everybody. For some, it means to laugh until you run out of air; others think that happiness means to be in a state of general peace and satisfaction with yourself. No matter what we understand as the definition of happiness, somehow we always manage to transmit the exact feeling, with surgical precision, to whoever is listening to us. Unlike sadness, which tends to be particular for every person, happiness is a feeling that's individually defined but universally understood. Maybe that's because there's so much poetry trying to figure out sadness and all its different sources, and very little (in comparison) dedicated to explaining happiness. That one is easier to understand: you feel complete, joyful, your brain is flooded with dopamine, and your whole body is relaxed. No matter how you define it, you always know what it means. 

Since happiness looks different for human beings, it wouldn't be crazy to assume that it also looks different for animals. For dogs is easy to spot: they wag their tails, jump, bark, run around, and live like everyday it's a party. We love them for their enthusiasm. For cats, it seems to be nothing of the sort. They don't have such obvious ways to show they're happy, and that's why sometimes we don't really know how our furry friends are actually feeling. Their tails don't wag; they only meow when they want something, and running around is simply beneath them. So, how do we know if our cat is happy? They have other tells.

They blink slowly while looking at us; they follow us around the house and curl up beside us on the couch; they look for proximity, not contact; they close their eyes and fall asleep in our presence because they feel comfortable and protected. A happy cat doesn't make a fuss; they coexist quietly with us. If we pay enough attention, we'll notice in an instant how comfortable, how happy, and how loved they feel. That's all we need.

It cannot be created or destroyed, it is recycled, and just because you might have lost a love, it does not mean that energy will not come back to you one day.

And, for some reason I'm still trying to find, this gets worse during the summertime. Calling out to all non-cat lovers! Wait… what? Isn't this supposed to be a cat-loving post? Let me give you a quick answer to that: yes, it is. But hear me out. I grew up not liking cats at all and being an absolute dog-loving person. I've never given much thought to cats, just thought they were the enemies of dogs, and that's it. However, as I became an older (and wiser) person, I was able to identify a lot of reasons as to why I love cats.

Mainly, they are not only incredibly funny, but they are crazy smart. The fact that they always land on their feet has to give you an idea of how superior they are. They are the only species on Earth that are able to do that, in the physical way and in the rhetorical way. Not only that, they are the cutest and a great companion for humans as well, without the neediness of a dog. 

Although both are awesome, I would never give up my love for dogs. I think it is great to appreciate both of them, and to have space in our hearts for as many cats and dogs as may appear in our lives.

Some people come home from a wine tour with a few bottles. Others somehow come home responsible for a kitten.

Reddit user Lovable_Geek had snagged a spot on a private wine tour with 13 other women for an afternoon of sipping and sightseeing. At the third stop, a cider farm, the group immediately noticed several cats hanging around the parking area. One tiny orange kitten quickly stole everyone's attention, happily being held and soaking up pets from 14 new admirers.

The tour guide mentioned that the kitten was available for adoption. His two siblings had already found homes, while the kittens' feral parents had arrived at the farm back in May. After the tasting, Lovable_Geek went back to spend more time with the little orange and casually asked the owner what adopting him would involve.

Turns out, not much. The farm taped up a box, added some air holes, and suddenly there was a kitten joining the ride home. Nothing like heading out for an afternoon of cider and returning with an entirely new family member.

The spicy little orange wasn't thrilled about staying inside his makeshift carrier and kept attempting an escape, so friends met them back in the city with a proper one. He's now staying separately in the bathroom while getting treated for fleas and parasites. The resident dog is already obsessed with him, while the adult cat has chosen offense.

A vet appointment also delivered one surprise: the kitten everyone thought was a girl is actually a boy. Despite being a little small and needing some extra care, he was a total champ for his blood draw.

The CDS really turned a casual afternoon at a cider farm into one heck of a souvenir.

Opening up to adoption again after losing your soul-cat is one of the most difficult things. 

Our love for cats is insane. It's so big. Every cat that we see, we instantly love. Every stray cat, every friend's cat, every online cat, we want to adopt them all. Of course, we have cats of our own, and adopting another is not quite that easy when we already have cats. But we want to adopt. We want to be those people who save cats, no matter how many of them there might be. We want to have cats always, at every stage of our lives. And yet, at the same time, we cannot ever imagine loving a cat as much as we do ours. We know our time with them is not forever, and we do want to keep adopting, but we have no idea how we will ever do it while dealing with the loss. That's the question that the person whose story we'll be covering today asked too. 

This person's story is a little more difficult than the one we described. They had two soul-cats, both of whom crossed the rainbow bridge within a short time of each other. That's hard enough, but then, a few months later, they adopted another cat. They thought this cat was healthy, that they would have many years together, only to find out that the shelter they adopted from didn't disclose some medical information, and for this cat to cross the rainbow bridge after a couple of months. This kind of loss is too big, but this person's love for cats remained just as big even after everything. They kept fostering cats, trying to help them, and before they knew it, they started feeling themselves bond. But they didn't know whether they should take the risk again, and they asked the internet for advice.

It's impurrtant to start every Caturday purrfectly, and we know that, throughout the week, we are too busy to keep up with all the cat content that we want to keep up with. But on Caturday, when the entire day is about resting and about cats, starting the day with all this purrfection is everything that we need. 

Catch a tiger by the toe, said the tiny crab. And meant it.

The cat approached it confidently despite probably having never met a crab in his life, but never imagined the crustacean would strike back. In fact, the crab would probably have looked like a beach toy to this kitten. Just try to think like a cat. The orange thing lying on the open beach is small, colourful, and also moves in a strange direction, so all these characteristics are compelling for any curious kitten. So, let's get closer! What could go wrong?

What this kitten didn't know was that this crab had both claws and home-field advantage. 

Who would have thought that we'd have to manage our cats' screen time as well as our kids'?

We all know the dangers of too much screen time. We know it the same way we know that not wearing sunscreen outside is bad for us and fossil fuels are ruining the environment. And yet, some people still put on tanning oil instead of sunscreen, and most of the world travels by car, plane, or bus, all of which require massive amounts of fuel. We try to keep our kids away from screens as much as pawssible, but did you ever imagine you would live in a world where you would have to manage your cats' access to screen time? 

Our pawrent below thought a little Cat TV would be harmless for his 6-month-old kittens. He was wrong. One of his kittens became completely obsessed with it - she began ignoring her sister, abandoned her toys, and began waiting in front of the blank screen for her pawrent to turn it on again. She essentially lost everything that made her a kitten, most importantly, the need for stimulation through socialization and exploration. The kitten's pawrent is now wondering: did he just turn his cat into an iPad kid? Will she ever go back to being a normal kitten?

The good news is that they're not the only pawrent dealing with this, either with a hooman child or a feline one. The other good news is that cats have relatively small brains, so in my humble opinion, if they just refuse to turn on the TV for a while, their cat will eventually get bored and forget about it. Have you ever thought that giving a kitten CPR could actually work?

The video begins with three dogs playing with a tiny cat. To them, it was just a game. But the cat was being chewed. Then they drop it, and the kitten is lying there, unresponsive. We're glad the man filming was there and acted fast. He immediately picks up the baby cat and brings the kitten inside. 

Those first moments are difficult to watch because the kitten is so small and still, but the man handles the situation very calmly despite the desperate situation. He performs CPR and bathes the cat, then wraps it in a towel. He keeps going even when there is no sign that anything is changing, and I find his attitude pretty admirable. I don't know how anyone can stay so calm in that situation and at the same time take action. Stopping was not an option for him. His movements were careful and urgent. He really caught this poor baby cat on time and solved things fast.

No wonder the man described the day as a "roller coaster of emotions". The kitten was motionless on the grass five minutes earlier, and now he was responding to the hand offering comfort. He saved his life! The video starts with an unfortunate and frightening discovery but finishes with a survivor standing on four tiny paws. Is there a more heartwarming story? The cat ends up resting safely on the couch and accepting gentle pets from the person who refused to give up and saved him.

This sweet tabby couldn't take his eyes off his caretaker during the entire treatment. He seems to know she's there to help, so even if he feels uncomfortable, he trusts her and waits until she's done to ask for a hug. 

What does it mean when cats stare at you like this? They are usually trying to send a message, so they use eye contact to express needs and feelings, and this means they trust you. So letting her help him and finally reaching for her arms is the sweetest moment ever. All this cutie wanted was a hug and to cuddle and relax, which he gets after his caretaker finishes treating his paw.

The caretaker also handles the cat's need for reassurance very well. She works carefully and pauses to give him kisses. That calm approach seems to help him understand that he is safe.  

But the most heartwarming part of all is how he looks at her. His stare is so meaningful when combined with the rest of his body language. He leans toward her, raises his paw, and wants to get closer without preventing her from finishing. He patiently waits for her to finish because he knows she's helping him get better. But once the fresh bandage is secure, the tabby decides he has waited long enough. So he stands up on two paws and reaches for her, settling into her arms as if that hug had been part of the treatment all along. What a cutie. Scroll down to see such a heartwarming moment.

A busy interstate is no place for a tiny kitten to be alone, but one quick message to a friend was enough to turn a dangerous afternoon into the beginning of a much safer chapter.

This is what we could call a good friend. Seeing a little kitten fighting for his life on the side of a very dangerous and fast road, and immediately calling a friend to rescue it, only comes from people with good hearts and kind souls. As soon as she was told that this little life was left alone, she went as fast as she could to rescue him. 

Fortunately, the little animal was safe and sound, although it seemed to be walking in a direction, probably to get away from the noise that was scaring him. The woman grabbed it in her arms and ran back to her car, so she could wrap him in a cozy blanket so he could get a bit warm. The kitten was only a couple of days old and had been left on its own to survive on that road.

Leaving animals on the side of the road is common practice for people who don't want to take care of pets. There are cases where people adopt a pet and later realize that they cannot care for it… of course, not an ideal situation, but it's more common than we think. However, abandoning animals, no matter the size or how old they are, is never the answer. In every community, some people are more than willing to step in and take these little animals home and have them until they are old enough. 

There's something else we can take from this story: helping an animal never requires some big effort or anything extraordinary. The main thing is paying attention. If the friends weren't looking at the side of the road, she might never have spotted the cat, and we don't know what could've happened to it. Because she was careful, her friend showed up, and suddenly this tiny kitten was no longer alone on the side of the highway.

Years of watching other people get chosen by the CDS came to an abrupt end with one very fast U-turn.

This newly chosen rescuer was driving home when they spotted a tiny kitten sitting in the middle of a busy road. There was no driving past that, so they whipped the car around and went back for the little guy. Once he was safely out of traffic, they searched the surrounding area for a mama cat or any siblings who might also need help.

That search turned up another kitten. When the CDS finally decided it was their turn, it went ahead and made it a two-for-one delivery.

Both babies were scared and wet after storms had rolled through the area the previous day and night, but their rescuer couldn't find any obvious injuries. With two very tiny passengers now depending on them, they stopped at a friend's house for kitten milk replacement and bottles and got straight to work figuring out their new feeding schedule.

The babies are being fed every two to three hours, and their new caretaker has already started handling all the less glamorous parts of caring for kittens this young. They're also keeping track of each kitten's weight and trying to figure out a reliable way to tell the nearly identical little ones apart. Nothing says "surprise CDS delivery" quite like going from zero kittens to feeding schedules and weight logs in a single drive home.

After years of watching everyone else get chosen, this rescuer finally got their turn, and the CDS certainly made it count.
