We know that waking up in the morning is not an easy task for most people. Who wants to leave their warm bed when they can snuggle forever with their fluffy cat, doing nothing for hours but giving kisses to their tiny little heads? What does the outside world have to offer that is better than cat cuddles? Nothing can convince us that stepping foot outside is worth leaving home in the first place.

Yet, since we are adults, and unfortunately, hooman, most of us have jobs, the kind that require us to get out of bed early in the morning, put on some real clothes, and leave the house for at least 8 hours. We might not see it as a better offer than staying inside, but our cats need food; therefore, we need to work to earn money and give them the life they deserve. And for most of us, work must happen outside of bed.

That is simply the way things go.

Each and every one of us has a routine and a method to get ready in the morning. We have things like coffee and breakfast that help with the whole waking-up part of the day, and possibly other, more exciting things to look forward to that get us through the rest of what is coming. It might not be cat cuddles, but that doesn't mean we can't still find enjoyment in it, or at least find enough strength to get us through the day.

For us, next to the pitcher of milk in our fridge, we keep a fresh batch of hissterical cat memes to scroll through every morning. There is nothing like a good laugh about some silly felines to get us awake and excited for the day. They give us peace, make us calm, and keep us happy. I thought I was about to start a normal workday when my husband woke me up with the words nobody expects to hear before breakfast: I think there's a cat in your car engine. If Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit has taught me anything, it's that cats have an uncanny knack for showing up exactly where they're meant to. I just didn't expect mine to arrive under the hood of my car.

At first, nobody could even agree on what the kitten looked like. One person thought she was gray, another insisted she was orange, and someone else was convinced she was black. Once she finally peeked out, the mystery was solved. She was a beautiful little tortoiseshell, and she wasn't making it easy to rescue her.

She slipped out from the engine and darted into a patch of bushes before the sound of a garbage truck sent her running into the woods. I had to leave for work, but I couldn't stop thinking about her. The whole day I felt guilty, wondering if she was still out there waiting for someone to come back.

The next afternoon, I decided to check one more time. I heard the tiniest, scratchiest little meow and followed the sound until she slowly crawled out of the bushes. This time she didn't run. She climbed into the carrier without much hesitation, settled onto a blanket, and immediately started making biscuits like she'd been waiting for this moment all along.

The vet confirmed she didn't have any visible injuries, and she quickly settled into life indoors. She's eating well, loves her heated blanket, and seems perfectly content with the upgrade from engine compartment to cozy home.

Now the little stowaway has a name, Ellie, and a family who already adores her. She may have started her journey hiding under the hood, but it's pretty clear she ended up exactly where she was supposed to be.

Summer is officially in its purrime, and the cats are making the most of every sunny second.

The second the weather warms up, every patch of sunshine becomes prime feline real estate. Window sills fill up with sleepy kitties, porches become deluxe lounging spots, and shady corners suddenly transform into the perfect place for an afternoon catnap. It's impressive how quickly cats can find the coziest place to spend a warm day.

Relaxing is only half the summer agenda. Curious noses have flowers to sniff, butterflies to watch, and birds to supervise from a safe distance. Normally, we don't like micromanagers, but when they're small, fluffy, and adorable, how can we say no?

It may not be our reality, but it is the reality of our employee who posted on Reddit's r/cats community. The cat's name is Oliver, and he was rescued from the underground parking garage. One of the workers planned on taking him home, but he didn't get along with the other cats, so now he lives full-time in their office. And you know what? Not only has morale improved, but also productivity!

What student film isn't complete without a stray cat becoming the star of the movie?

Cats are the stars of whatever room they walk into. It's natural for them. Their floofiness and adorable feline faces demand our attention, and it's practically an instinct buried not-so-deep within us to stop whatever we're doing, pspspsps them, and try to become their furvorite hooman. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it makes us the happiest purrson in the whole world. 

So, imagine that you've rented a rural Airbnb for your student film, and when you arrive, you find out you have a fuzzy costar waiting for their meowment in the limelight. Except that, because it's a low-budget film, you packed all the equipment into one car and have no room for his ride back home to the city. That was the dilemma of our couple from Reddit's r/cats subreddit. They found out from the owners of the Airbnb that the feline is a stray that they take care of, when they can. Is that any way to treat your main character?

With their sentimental souls, they knew they couldn't leave the kitty there. A 40-minute drive from the nearest city, this cat would be all alone as soon as they left. After much deliberation, the filmmaker decided to cast this cat as the newest member of his family. Did they have all the answers? No. But did they know that it was worth it to take him and figure it out on the way? Yes.

Cats don't always show up at the purrfect time. They often don't. But when they do, it means you've been chosen, and taking that cat in can literally mean the difference between life and the rainbow bridge for this cat. I know that I would have done the same.

Sometimes, the CDS knows that you are ready for a new kitten way before you know it.

Nothing can quite mend the heartbreak of losing your soul cat. Nothing. It will sting deep in your heart every time you think about them even years after they are gone. But some things can help. We're not saying that you should rush into adopting another cat. What we are saying is that sometimes, a new cat will find you, and you will have to decide very quickly if you are ready for it.

Of course, the beauty of it all is that when a kitten decides to adopt you, it generally doesn't ask for permission. When my husband's kitten walked into his apartment exactly on his 27th birthday, she didn't care that he had lost his soul cat barely two years prior. He didn't know if he was ready, so he left the door to his apartment open. He gave her a choice. When she ran off five minutes later, it kind of broke his heart. But she was just teasing, because she walked right back in two minutes afterward, and she never left again.

The person who opened up about their story of adopting a kitten after a loss on r/blackcats didn't have even two years to get used to the idea of a new cat. They lost one of their soul cats, and a year later, they lost their second one as well. It was barely 4 weeks after this happened that a pregnant cat gave birth to a litter of kittens in their backyard and abandoned the runt of the litter, and it felt like fate. Looking at that itty bitty creature, in need of a mom, in need of help, they simply could not leave the kitten there to fight the world on its own.

Any cat lover worth their salt knows that a cat's favorite spot is more sacred than Sheldon's spot in the Big Bang Theory. Whomever dares approach said spot had better be armed with treats unless they wish to feel their feline's wrath. They have fought tooth and nail to claim their throne and they will defend it at all costs.

Sadly for the pawrents of said cat children, most of these spots are very inconvenient to the hooman lifestyle. You see, cats enjoy seclusion in their spots, and put it as a priority. Which is relatively reasonable when you are small enough to be scooped up by almost any size of hooman and bundled like a little baby. But this often means that they will find a spot that is hard to reach for us hoomans putting our cat children firmly out of our grasp. This gives them a safe place to run to anytime we decide they need some sort of treatment they do not approve of.

And while it is very frustrating to have your cat child disappear on you as a pawrent when you are just trying to help them. There is a fate far worse than this amongst the secret spots that kitties choose to curl up in, and those are the vantage points. Some cats prefer to feel as though they are in a burrow with no light and no sight. But then there are those who feel the need to look over their land like a mighty ruler and in doing so they also add an additional fur supply to the air from their elevated pawsition, spreading little sprinkles of fur all over the house. So because it is more fun to revel in the misery of other cat pawrents as opposed to your own, we made this hilarious collection of cunning cat children who have taken command of their favorite secret spots.

 

Life is a rollercoaster, you never know when all of a sudden you will find yourself flung up in the air and in a different place than you thought you were. And that is very much what happened to this cat pawrent when they had to move towns and sadly their soul cat escaped in the process.

The pages of Reddit's r/cats subreddit are full of all sorts of cat child stories and imagery, but it is not all too often that we have the good fortune of coming upon a story that would give hope to all the feline pawrents who have ever had a cat go missing. For this tale of feline disappearance comes full circle after almost a full decade when that all important chip came into play and finally did its job, to reconnect lost cat children and their pawrents.

Of course after all those years apart and the long distance relocation this pawrent had to do, it seemed as though there would be no hope of the feline returning to its rightful owner. Even the limited attempts over the years of driving around their hometown calling out for their cat child were mere placations to the pain that this pawrent felt over losing their fluffy best friend all those years ago. But one fateful day when they were back home, far away from the town their cat child went missing in, they got a call that changed everything. That proves the value of microchipping your cat child. That shows every feline pawrent out there, that no matter how long it has been, no matter how far you might be from your fur baby, there is always a chance that they will find their way back to you.

 

Nobody can come between a cat mom and her cat, not even her own sister.

It's purrfect when you have someone in your family who loves your cat enough to take care of them when you're gone. It makes your vacations or work trips so much less stressful knowing that you don't have to invite a stranger into your house to watch your cat while you're gone. Because, let's be honest, we've all had some terrible pet-sitter experiences. I know I have.

But there's a hidden downside to taking favors from family members, and just like in our story from a helpful online subreddit community, the negatives can sometimes outweigh the positives. When our cat mom had to go on a work trip for 2 weeks, she left her adorable 5-year-old cat with her sister and her sister's kids. When she returned, her sister kept making excuse after excuse to delay the pick up. Her kids wanted to say goodbye, she was tired after work… and that's when our cat mom realized it was never about finding a convenient time. Her sister wanted to keep her cat for her family.

It's understandable for her kids to get attached. The kids don't know any better, but the sister is a whole other issue. She should have prepared the kids for the inevitable goodbye, but instead, she gave them false expectations that caused a pawsitively unnecessary meltdown.

The good news is that our cat mom got her cat back, and upon arriving home, her fluffy feline went from anxious to relaxed in a matter of minutes. We can't say the same for her sister's kids and their own relationship. Sometimes, family isn't all it's cracked up to be.

This heatwave rocking the UK and Europe is not just hard for the hoomans living through it, it's also hard for all of our friendly felines stuck at home. Some countries in Europe are experiencing over 100-degree weather now, with some even saying that they're having the hottest days ever recorded. For those of us who live in the US, we've been lucky to live with air conditioning most of our lives, depending on where you live. But many homes in the UK and Europe don't have air conditioning, and although it can be a pain for us hoomans, it can be very dangerous for our cats. The same things that cool down hoomans don't necessarily work on your kitties, so we compiled a purrfectly helpful list of ways your home could be making the heatwave harder on your cat. 

All of the tricks below are good things to try, but every cat is different, and we all know how finicky cats can be. Not every tip below will work for every cat. Personally, I like to put some ice cubes in a gallon ziplock bag with some water, and put it on the floor. Not only does it cool down the floor, but after a while, my cats get interested in the ice cubes, and start batting them around like little toys. It cools down their paws, and then they lick their paws more from the condensation. Hydrating and fun!

Every cat has a favorite toy and once it's been chosen, there isn't much humans can do about it.

Pet stores can be filled with colorful new toys, but cats have a habit of falling in love with the one that's already been chewed on, tossed across the house, and loved for months or even years. That scruffy little mouse with half its tail missing somehow becomes more valuable than anything fresh out of the package.

The favorite toy earns its place through countless zoomies, surprise pounces, and late-night play sessions. Before long, it starts appearing everywhere. One morning it's waiting outside the bedroom door. Later it's sitting in the middle of the hallway. By bedtime, it has somehow found its way onto the couch. It's less of a toy and more of a tiny companion that follows the cat through every part of the day.

Cats carry these little treasures with so much pride that you'd think they'd just returned from a successful hunting expedition. They may be missing feathers, stuffing, or an eye, but they're still priceless in the eyes of the tiny predator who claimed them.

Every surprise third cat starts out as a cat you're definitely not keeping.

Every cat owner has a story about how they got their cat. Some visit shelters. Some answer adoption listings. And then there are the stories that came straight from Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit, where a cat simply appears and decides the matter for everyone involved.

This particular feline had been surviving on Baltimore alley trash and mice while hanging around the neighborhood for several days. Neighbors had spotted her, but nobody could get close enough to help. She kept her distance and seemed determined to stay that way.

That changed when one couple arrived armed with wet food and a cat carrier. The plan worked surprisingly well. Once the hungry stray emerged from her hiding spot, it didn't take long to safely get her into the carrier. What happened next was a little less graceful. For roughly an hour, the newly rescued cat made it very clear that she was not thrilled about the situation and had no interest in making new friends.

Then something changed.

After her initial objections, she completely flipped the script and decided these new hoomans were actually wonderful. The former alley cat transformed into what her rescuers describe as the sweetest cat they've ever met. It's a pretty dramatic turnaround for someone who had been trying to murder them just a short time earlier.

A vet visit is next on the agenda, followed by introductions to the resident cats. Officially, the family is still pretending this is a temporary arrangement. Unofficially, everyone already knows how these stories usually end.

The cat may have started out living off alley scraps and mice, but it looks like she has traded that life for a home, a family, and two unsuspecting feline siblings. Somehow, the household that thought it had two cats woke up and discovered it has three.

If cats and dogs hate each other so much, why is it that kittens keep choosing households with dogs to adopt them?

It is a myth as old as time. Cats and dogs hate one another. A myth, yes. Because it is clearly untrue. Cats and dogs are very different animals, and there is no dispute there. But that doesn't mean that they hate each other. Of course, we can say that to people all day long, but they still don't believe it. Cats and dogs are too different. The only way for them to potentially get along is for them to be born and raised together. That's what we are told. And that is not true either. 

After explaining doesn't work, we try to show people. There are so many pictures of cats and dogs being friends that you can find online. Heart-meltingly adorable proof that cats and dogs can be the closest buds. But no, that is not enough. Those are just "internet pictures". There are pictures online of anything and everything, and that is especially true in a world where we can't tell the difference between real and AI anymore. 

But one thing is not fake. Not yet. Stories. Personal stories that people share, on places like r/cats, with endless pictures to accompany them. These stories of kittens popping up out of nowhere and approaching people with dogs on walks - these are the ultimate pieces of proof that cats and dogs don't need to be raised together to become friends. Sometimes, they just choose each other. It's the work of fate. Of the CDS. Cats choose to adopt dogs or to be adopted by dogs so often that, honestly, we think the myth about cats and dogs inherently hating one another should have been thrown out the window a long time ago. 

What would you do if you found your missing cat and then realized that it wasn't yours? 

Having your cat run away is one of the world's worst feelings. We've felt it ourselves. The worst 24 hours of our lives were when we lost our cat. She came back. We were lucky. But those 24 hours were enough for us to learn our lesson for the rest of our lives - make sure that all doors are closed and all windows have nets on them. They don't run away because they are unhappy. Our cats are happy, but they are also curious creatures. Our cats are spoiled as heck. We know it, but they don't. Most of them don't know anything different, and they can't help but be curious about the outside world. 

It takes one second - one moment of turning your back with the door open behind you, and your cat could slip off if they wanted to. And then, whether you find them or not is up to them. We know how well cats can hide. Back when our cat ran away, we were out on the streets, shaking bags of treats and calling her name, and for all we know, she could have been hiding in a bush behind us the whole time, choosing not to be seen. 

Of course, the elation of having her come back was even greater than the pain of losing her. And that is what Shaquille_oatmeal_88 on r/cats must have felt when "their cat" came back to them after four months. They noticed immediately that the kitty was a little different than before, but he wasn't very different. And they were too happy to have her back to pay those tiny differences much attention. Until they couldn't ignore it. They knew that the friendly and loving cat that they thought was theirs actually wasn't. 

Orange cats may only have one brain cell, but they use every little bit of it to make us happy. 

Okay, so, confession. We've never actually had an orange cat. Our entire lives, somehow, we have not been picked by the gingers. And so, we didn't know. We didn't understand. Orange cats were just… another kind of cat for us. Cute, purrfect, precious, but no different than any other. It took us diving deep into the world of cats on the internet to find out that orange cats have a kind of… reputation. 

Orange cats have one brain cell. One for all of them. That they share. That is what we have learned about them. It's what the community has told us. And at first, we were baffled. It seems almost offensive to say something like that. Orange cats are smart! Orange cats are no different than any other cat! But alas, we don't actually have a ginger cat, so who are we to argue? We started following orange cats online, following orange cat communities, listening to orange cat owners tell their stories about their ginger felines. And we have come to the conclusion that… they are right. Orange cats are special. So, so special. 

Of course, every once in a while, you will encounter an orange cat that is smart. But that just means that they were in possession of the brain cell on that day. You see… Us saying that orange cats share one brain cell is not intended as an insult, as we first thought. In fact, it is a compliment. Now that we know more about these ginger felines and everything about them that makes them unique, we want one more than we ever had before. Seriously. Please, CDS, we beg you, the next one you send us, let it be a ginger. 

Sunday: the day for relaxation before the next five days of suffering. 

Sundays have something complicated about them. They're not just a weekend, they're on the cusp of the beginning of the work week. You may find yourself in some sort of weekend bliss, and by each hour passing you're closer and closer to the dread of the work week. The daily commute, the empty chit chat with coworkers, the "per my last email" emails, and the annoying boss who keeps telling you what to do. Sometimes it can be too much and we need a break. The weekend comes and goes, and Sunday is still the weekend. There's something dreamy about Sundays, something that feels restful even if it's almost the work week. Sunday is a perfect day for napping, and in Spanish that means sueños. Sueños means dreams in English, and it's beautiful because it can refer to both the dreams we experience while sleeping and the dreams we have about our lives, the ones we aspire for in our hearts. 

There's something poetic about dreams in general. It's something that bridges the conscious with the unconscious, something that we experience in our sleep but is so uniquely tied to our real life. Everything we experience, think, feel, and know in our waking state could be revisited in a dream. It can appear in ways we didn't even know about, and that's where psychoanalysis comes into play. There's something so interesting about analyzing dreams. It's like you can pull back the curtain for a split second and see everything in your head and heart. So if you're into Sundays, sleeping, dreaming, and Spanish, enjoy these cat memes. 

Cats are sassy little creatures, and we honestly love them for it even more than we would've otherwise.

Just think of the cute moments of your cat for a second. Really, the cutest you can think of. Your cat on your lap, purring like a tiny tractor. You call them while they're in the same room with you, looking away, and you can see their ears spin back like a satellite dish, but… they keep on ignoring you otherwise. It's like they let you know, "Yeah, I heard you. I just don't care." And think of their audacity to just pounce on your chest while you're asleep at 3 AM because… just because. They'll skedaddle away right after, prkouring on furniture probably. Cats are full of sass, and that's very cat of them.

Now think back of the cute things your cat is doing. Aren't they even cuter now? It's like, yeah, sure, the cat is full of sass, but they're also the cutest creature on Earth, no quations asked. Cats' sass elevates their cute moments tenfold, and we think cat people don't appreciate it enough.
