Kittens don't even have to try and they just steal hearts left and right! 

Kittens are undeniably cute. Their classically cute look, such as big eyes and ears, is the center of their being. Speaking of classics, Plato is up there as classic next to kittens, but in a different way. He's one of the most influential philosophers in Western history. His work spaced how people think about knowledge, reality, ethics, and politics. He's classically Greek, a student of Socrates, and teacher of Aristotle. One of his classic philosophical thoughts was his theory of Forms. He argued that the physical world is only a shadow of a higher, more purrfect reality. He claimed that concepts like beauty, justice, and trust exist as eternal, unchanging Forms, while the objects we encounter in everyday life are imperfect copies of these ideals. This idea is the skeleton of what makes up his Allegory of the Cave, in which prisoners mistake shadows on the wall for reality, but they're unaware of the fuller truth beyond their limited perspective. The allegory remains one of philosophy's most important metaphors for ignorance, education, and enlightenment. We live in an ostentatious world void of higher truths, but cats don't. 

Plato also wrote a lot on ethics and the nature of the good life. We all know where he was going with this…cats! He believed that true happiness comes not from pleasure or wealth, but from acquiring virtue, wisdom, and cats. He believed the soul had different parts: reason, spirit, and appetite, and a good life is one that balances these (along with having cats). 

The best thing about Plato is his work in The Republic. He argues his vision of an ideal state ruled by "philosopher-kings." They are leaders who govern not for personal gain, but out of understanding the commitment to the common good, like cats. Kittens are pertinent to learning proper classics like Plato, Nietzsche, or Aristotle. Without this fundamental truth that kittens hold in their cuteness, there's no learning about anything else, and no growing in terms of these things. But if you're too lazy to read through it, I'll give you a quick summary of what happened. A family with twins, a senior dog, four cats, and two geckos had literally just adopted out their last foster cat a few weeks earlier, and they promptly said "no more cats"! Well, the Cat Distribution System took that as a challenge and presented them with Bubbles. They found Bubbles baking on a sidewalk in the California summer sun, on a 110-degree day, and knew that they couldn't leave him there.

Caring for a neonatal kitten is no small feat. At that age, they require feeding every two hours, help to go to the bathroom, and daily weigh-ins to make sure they gain enough weight. In between waking up to feed her own twin children, our California NICU nurse also managed to continuously feed Bubbles in order to keep him alive. Needless to say, it was a pawsitively exhausting process.

However, we have exciting news: Bubbles is alive and well, and even opened his eyes for his two-week birthday! According to his hooman mom, the NICU nurse, he's a spicy little guy who has a lot ot say about the world now that he can see it. He has tripled in size since they found him, and all the kids are taking turns caring for him. Soon, he'll be old enough to be introduced to his feline siblings, as well as doggo brothers and sisters. 

From the second he was rescued, Bubbles was showered with love. It's a reminder to all of us that things that seem impawssible alone, are pawssible with a support system that lifts you up in your lowest meowments. If Bubbles can do it, so can you.

It's no secret that the cat distribution system works in mysterious ways. 

Life certainly has a way of making us wonder if there's something out there. There are times where things feel too symbolic, too meaningful, or too scripted to be a part of normal everyday life. In this story, there's a coincidence that is undeniable. In the story here, a family has had their little Sophie since she was 4 years old. She's 20 now, and they've had to make the harsh decision to let her cross the rainbow bridge or not. On the same day no less, they spot a lookalike across the street. He starts meowing when he sees them carrying Sophie to be buried, and they can't help but wonder about his identical markings. It's no secret that the cat distribution system and fate work hand in hand, and now they get a Sophie 2.0, in a younger and male form. Of course there are those who don't believe in coincidences at all, and you might be onto something. There's unexplainable happenings in the cosmos that really make someone wonder about the universe and existence. 

Sometimes the CDS waits until your heart is ready, then skips the whole "looking for a cat" stage and sends two at once.

After their beloved cat passed over the rainbow bridge last fall, one family spent months grieving and wasn't ready to bring another feline home. Only recently had they started talking about opening their hearts again and maybe beginning the search sometime soon. Turns out, there would be no searching necessary. The CDS had already handled the assignment.

They found two young cats abandoned together in a park with a bag of food beside them. It's heartbreaking to imagine how they ended up there, especially because their behavior suggested they had been loved and cared for before. Rather than assume the worst about whoever left them, their new family chose kindness and figured someone may have fallen on difficult times.

The pair were understandably nervous about their unfamiliar surroundings at first, but it didn't take long for their affectionate personalities to come out. Both are major cuddle bugs, and they've also got each other while they adjust.

One kitten is bolder while the other approaches things more cautiously. Whenever the cautious one gets spooked and retreats somewhere safe, his braver buddy follows him over for a cuddle. Excuse us while our hearts completely melt. Getting through a huge life change is much easier when your best feline friend is right there beside you.

The vet estimates they're around six to ten months old, likely toward the younger end. Neither had a chip, they've gotten their shots, and appointments are lined up to get them fixed.

They've also officially become Mander and Melee, names inspired by Charmander and Charmeleon from Pokémon.

This family thought they were finally ready to start looking for another cat. The CDS heard them and said, "How about two?"

In a house with six cats, if you want to adopt a seventh, you need to call the itty bitty kitty committee for approval. 

As someone who did not grow up with cats and has only experienced cat ownership for the first time as a teen, I can very confidently tell you that owning cats… is not easy. Cats cause chaos all the time. It's part of who they are. I know that now, but back when I started, I thoguht the same thing that most people think - that cats are easy. But they are not. And as the proud owner of one chaotic, chonky beautiful cat, I can tell you that even one cat is enough to cause you some stress sometimes. Having six cats… I can only imagine the chaos. And that's the situation that Bitter-Researcher389 on Reddit has found themselves in. Except it got even more complicated. 

Six cats is enough, and this poster would agree with that statement. But what happens when you have six cats and then a seventh kitten who needs help shows up on your property? What do you do? Well, there is only one answer to that. You may think that you don't want another kitten because six cats are enough, or you may be smitten with the kitten and immediately want to adopt. Either way, it is not your choice. This decision has to run through the itty bitty kitty committee for approval. If the six cats in the house don't want a seventh, then you cannot argue with that. With one cat, you could argue. With two or maybe three, you have a chance. But six? No, this is up to them. And if they choose that they want the seventh sibling… then you don't have a choice but to adopt it. 

Adopting an animal is one of the most selfless and loving things one can do!

Some of the most beautiful things in life come as a surprise. When you least expect it, the universe can send you a gift that you didn't know you needed. And with pets, it can happen exactly that! 

In this case, some people were walking around a parking lot when they heard a sudden meowing. Turns out, there was a little orange kitten hiding under a car! They decided to take him home, even though they were completley unprepared to receive a kitten. They didn't have cat food, a litter box, or any toys, but they chose to figure out the specifics later, and simply take the fluffy baby with them. They were debating whether they should give him up for adoption, but the little feline fell asleep on one of his rescuers' arms. He looked so cute and so comfortable that they decided to keep him. They took him to the vet for a checkup, and he was mostly okay, so nothing to worry about. Now he's perfectly installed in his new home, and he has his own cup, his food, a litter box, and many toys to keep himself busy! 

What these people did was a wonderful act of love. They found a furry feline alone and without anyone to take care of him, and instead of worrying about all the details and the things they didn't have, they just pushed their worries aside and chose to help. They could have said it was too sudden, that they didn't have enough space, or given a hundred different excuses. They didn't. They chose to do the right thing: to help the baby with whatever they had and however they could. Most of the time, some food and a warm, loving home are more than enough to make an innocent animal happy. Of course, some other times it will be necessary to give more specialized and urgent care, but thankfully this wasn't the case. This kitten only needed a family and some love to be happy and protected. 

Being a cat momma is hard work, and just like any other mom, cat moms need help too. 

It is a well-known fact in the cat community that cats adopt their humans rather than the other way around. You may walk into a shelter with one intention but end up coming out with something completely different. The number of times we have heard of people walking into a shelter, thinking that they will adopt a kitten only to come back with a precious senior cat is proof. The number of people who "hate cats" or have "never wanted a cat" who get absolutely smitten with cats after being adopted by them is yet more proof. The proof is endless. We are not the ones choosing them, they are the ones who choose us. But it goes beyond just cats getting themselves adopted. 

Being a cat momma is hard work, and sometimes, even the best cat moms need help. And so, the solution is simple. And TMSaurus's story on Reddit proves it. Not only did this momma cat decide that she wants to be adopted, she also decided that it was time for her babies to get off the streets too. And she made sure that it happened. She did not leave it to fate. She went up to her chosen human, called them over, and made sure that they walked with her, following behind her right up until she brought them straight to her kids. And that's that. This momma made a choice for her and her kids to be adopted, and that is exactly what happened. Because the humans never had a choice in the matter. We are simply happy to be chosen.

Do your cats also act completley crazy?

We always have this idea that cats are elegant, and polished, and perfect. And they are, for sure! Most of the time, our felines are the purrrfect example of grace and elegance. Yet, they have moments in which they seem to have gone absolutley mad. They start scratching the curtains, getting behind the fridge, hiding inside the kitchen cabinets, and exploring every single corner of the house. Their energy spikes up, and there's nothing we can do to stop them from making a mess around the entire room. 

For some reason, we are not capable of fully understanding our cats. We have lived with them for centuries, and we still can't figure out what's going on inside their little heads. Humans made up stories about them all the time, sometimes even calling them gods (we're talking about you, ancient Egyptians), all because we can't uncover the mystery that is cats. We are so close to them all the time; they are part of our daily life, but they never stop surprising us. Just when we think we got everything figured out, BAM! Another unknown trait pops up out of nowhere, leaving us baffled and clueless all over again.

With dogs it's different. We can tell instantly when they are happy, when they are sad, and when they want something. We read them like an open book. But with cats is almost never like that. There's always a piece of their souls that is completley secret, a part of themselves that they keep hidden. 

Their behavior and character are beyond what we can understand. They drive us mad with their naughtyness; they fill us with love, and they bring kitten cuteness to our daily lives. All sorts of people from all walks of life find themselves at one point or another walking into a cat shelter. The one thing that unites all of them is that they will all likely be leaving that shelter with a cat in hand, even if they were not meaning to. That is very much the concept of this story we have lined up today.

People who truly love cats are a special kind of hooman. They are kind to stick by their feline through fights and warm feelings, through treats and dry food they'll never eat. It takes the kind of resilience that is commonly found in our armed services and lo and behold the hooman in this story is a military man himself. But also a man who diligently loved his cat child for 20 years, who gave it a loving life and extended family. But when both of those unfortunately passed on this deeply dedicated and loving man was left hollow.

But the Cat Distribution System was not about to let one of the best cat caring hoomans simply go to waste. And before you could say discount kitty, this hooman found himself with a new cat companion in his arms. One that literally yelled at him the moment he tried to set it down. An instant bond for a hooman who is so incredibly deserving of the love of a cat. May we all learn from the example his man has set, and live up to the standards of cat care he has set. 
 

Let's get one thing out of the way: I trust my feline instincts, and they are telling me: you don't like this lady, like, at all. 

Now, this is coming from me, someone who would, and I can't stress this enough, happily(!) take care of your cat, her cat, or any cat, for free. This is about entitlement and how this lady, who obviously isn't a cat lady despite owning a cat, takes favors and her cat for granted.

She sounds like she treats her cat like a decorative plant that occasionally needs a pep talk. And I'm not having it.

Cats don't need another confidence boost, but putting a mirror in front of them certainly isn't going to help.

One glance at that reflection and suddenly there's a very important feline staring back. Look at those whiskers. Look at that fluff. Look at those perfectly pointed ears. Hoomans spend half their lives telling their cats how beautiful they are, so it was only a matter of time before the kitties checked out the evidence themselves.

A mirror can easily become a personal vanity station. There's always time to stop, stare, and appreciate the gorgeous face looking back. Maybe turn to the side and check the profile. Sit up a little taller. Give the tail a quick flick for dramatic effect. When you're naturally this photogenic, admiring the view is practically part of the daily schedule.

The reflection does raise a few questions. Who is this suspiciously handsome stranger, and why are they copying every move? A paw against the glass gets another paw in return. Move closer and the mystery cat does too. Looking behind the mirror seems like the logical next step, because that copycat has to be hiding somewhere.

Things can get even more dramatic when the reflection is treated like an intruder. Imagine minding your own business and suddenly spotting another cat in your house with the audacity to look exactly like you. That calls for some serious staring, a few warning meows, and possibly a paw or two thrown at the glass.

Whether the mirror becomes a vanity, a mystery, or the scene of some feline beef, it's hard to walk away from a face that cute.

The CDS must have decided one kitten wasn't enough, because eight days after the first delivery, another one came flying in with significantly more drama.

The first kitten made the whole adoption thing look ridiculously easy. On June 26, a little gray girl followed the family's outdoor cat through the back door and proceeded to make herself comfortable. That's one way to skip the entire adoption process. She found an open door, followed her new feline friend inside, and decided she lived there now. No arguments from the hoomans. She's since gotten her shots and boosters, is in perfect health, and already has her spay scheduled. A pretty successful home invasion, if you ask us.

The second delivery took a much more chaotic route.

On July 4, the family was outside watching fireworks when an orange kitten decided crossing a major city intersection sounded like a good idea. He bolted from a bush and ran straight across the road, somehow dodging several cars along the way. Orange cats have a reputation for sharing one brain cell, but this little guy really didn't need to prove the stereotype quite so dramatically.

A teenage girl walking nearby saw what was happening and immediately ran after him. She crossed the road, caught the kitten, ran back through traffic, placed him directly into the dad's lap, and hurried off. One minute the family was watching fireworks. The next, Dad was holding a surprise orange kitten. The CDS really nailed the doorstep delivery on that one.

He's also gotten his shots and boosters and is doing well aside from a small issue with one eye. His neuter will be scheduled soon, and even the resident cats have welcomed both newcomers.

The kittens are now Smokey and John Henry, and their delivery methods couldn't have been more different.

One walked through the front door. The other practically stopped traffic.

Is there anything more wholesome than a grandpa who loves his cats posing in a sunflower field with his feline children? Oh, did we forget to mention that they always choose that exact meowment to start a WWE smackdown with each other?

Your Sunday is about a whole lot more colorful (and chaotic). 

As a cat owner, I can't think of a more purrfect setting than a sunflower field to take some cute portraits with my cats. The mixture of colors and textures would contrast beautifully with their soft, silky fur, and purrsonally, I just love flowers. Should be a hole-in-one experience, right? Wrong. And the Japanese grandfather who started it all, @catwolf0314, is living proof of that.

This adorable elderly Japanese man has gone viral for his colorful cat photoshoots that never turn out quite like he would want them to. His cats, whom he loves to dress up in adorable outfits, always end up fighting in the pictures, and it's purrfectly hilarious because we get it. You always try to get a cute picture of your cats, and as soon as you pull out the camera, they either stop doing the cute thing, move away from you, or they start fighting. It's like they have a sixth sense for when you're filming. I keep telling myself that they can't pawssibly know what a camera or a phone is, and yet, they somehow always know when and how to avoid it.

So why does he keep trying? Because he believes that bringing his cats out and having them share experiences together will help them bond and grow to love each other more. Don't jump to judge too quickly - haven't you ever had a spat or an argument with your brother or sister? Yeah, we thought so. There may be some bumps along the way, but we think he's doing a great job, and if nothing else, these pictures make us laugh harder than we've laughed in a good, long time.

The thing about the cat distribution system is that they can strike at any time. You may be going out for an innocent McDonald's meal, and come back with kittens. 

We truly never know what life has in store for us. Maybe the love of our lives will walk up to us in that cafe to ask us what we're reading, maybe our neighbors will end up being our best friends, maybe we'll land that job we never thought we'd get, and maybe we'll be gifted not one but two kittens from the cat distribution system just for going to get some fast food. It was only supposed to be one. They got their little void Stella five summers ago when they found her sitting on the front porch and brought her inside. But years later, they found that McDonald's and the cat distribution system were working hand in hand behind their back. 

Back in June on the 20th, they were at the McDonald's drive through and a wife told her husband that she wanted a McFlurry. She saw a couple ladies standing with a tiny kitten in the parking lot, and she rolled her window down to tell them the kitten was cute. They promptly told her that the kitten had bene following them and they didn't know what to do with it! She took it on herself to rescue the kitten and take him home for her kids to name the orange one Samual Ronald McPurry. Then on August 16th, they went again. They were in the drive thru when her mom got a call from her friend about a tiny kitten following her in the parking lot of the McDonald's. What are the chances they were already there? So there you have it. McDonald's = kitten. Be careful where you go for takeout!

Food makes the world go round. And not just food, but delicious, sweet, and comforting foods. Ice cream is one of the world's favorite foods. No matter where you are in the world, people love to indulge in ice cream. The combination of sweet, fatty, and cold combine to form a purrfect trifecta of delicious and comforting. It's especially comforting in the summer when the heat is so intense we have to hide in the shade to survive. We all need it to survive, but it's more than that. Whether your cat loaves or not isn't the point. And whether you're a bread fanatic or gluten-free doesn't matter either. The point is that you appreciate a good cat meme when you see one. What's one non-cat toy that your cat loves to play with? 

This is the question that we asked our audience. And yes, we were fully expecting some ridiculous answers. Because we know cats. We know, from purrsonal experience, how silly they can be about certain items. And we don't need to be ICHC writers to know about this. Yes, we can pull up stories that we've covered about cats who are obsessed with almonds, and cats who love to play with snap peas, and cats whose favorite pastime is sitting directly on our puzzles. 

But there's no need to go online to see it. We just look at our own cats. My cat's favorite toys, for example, are grape stems. Not the grapes themselves, she has no interest in those. Only the stems, and preferably when they are still somewhat moist. She is the laziest cat you will ever meet, but grape stems are something she actually gets up for. And that is a beautiful thing. In fact, cats being this silly and unique is one of our favorite things about them. And still, despite expecting some funny answers from our audience, we have to say that you delivered more than we knew you could. 

Healing from the loss of a pet looks different for everyone. For this man, it came in the form of a tiny, shy ginger kitty. 

We believe that we, as cat people, are unique in our love for cats. Because we love all cats all the time. We may have our own cats, but that doesn't stop us from pawsing and saying hi to every stray cat we come across. We want to help them all. We want to rescue all stray cats and give them all homes. We look for cats to help. We try. We pspsps every stray, try to gain their trust, get them to a vet for a TNR. We don't adopt all of them, but some of them… simply win over our hearts, and we cannot help ourselves. And that is what happened to the man in today's story. 

It has been two years since his soul-cat crossed the rainbow bridge, and although two years were not quite enough time for him to go looking for a cat himself, it was enough time for the CDS to make this decision for him. In the factory he works in, one day, a cute ginger kitten appeared. No one but him cared about it. The owner of the factory, the boss, even said to toss the kitten onto the streets and get it out of his factory. But this man was smitten, and for months, we went behind everyone's backs and fed this itty bitty thing every single day. He worked tirelessly to gain the cat's trust, eventually having the little feline follow him around the factory, much to the owner's dismay. But it was worth it. Because eventually, after all that work, he was able to bring the kitty home and give him the life he deserves.
