Do cats enjoy mischief?

I'm surprised this owner does not hesitate to say his cat 'thinks'; not only that he thinks, but that he has a concept of right and wrong, of good and bad, and that he then decides to do bad and 'enjoys' it. Honestly, I'm here for it. Who's to say it's not possible? Has any of os been inside a cat's mind?

I have the most amazing relationship with my cat Filomena, and of course I've often imagined she thinks and plots things. Every cat has its own personality, and personalities come with peculiar tastes, characteristics and purr-spectives. It's very hard to think about mischief as a concept outside of language itself (I mean cats don't talk and don't understand words, let's be real), but I do think it's possible. I'm trying to think of babies, and how sometimes through the gaze or through gestures they can tell whether what they're doing is correct or not. Of course, children are from our own species, but well, cats have lived with humans for so long; maybe they started to instinctively understand us.

Should hosts be expected to cook separate meals for picky eaters?

A woman decided to host a pool party at her home during the crazy heatwave. When dinner time came around, she mentioned to everyone what was on the menu. Her sister asked her to cook a special meal for her kids, who are picky eaters. When she refused, her sister got very mad at her and decided to cook something herself for her own kids. After everyone left, the grandmother texted the host and called her selfish.

I'm not going to lie: this kind of story makes me feel so mad. I truly would never expect my sister to accommodate dinner if my kids are the ones who don't like anything. I'd be responsible for making them something, or bringing dinner for them if I'm aware of the menu. I realized sometimes people are very entitled and demand things that can seem very impolite for some of them.

The host did great when she refused to prepare a whole separate dinner for her nephews, and had her sister cook for her own kids. I understand that a host should have to be hospitable and make everyone feel good at her home, but that doesn't mean she has to turn into a private chef for every family member.

And don't get me started on the heatwave: even though she mentioned she had her AC going on the entire time, cooking when it's crazy hot outside is never going to be fun. The total opposite: you get very hot, and the only thing you want is to cook dinner as fast as possible so you can go and cool down for the rest of the day. 

I'll say that for pool parties, having snacks for dinner is the way to go. She mentioned people brought snacks, and in my opinion, that should have been dinner. It's easy, you don't need to clean up too much after, and it's fun. Period.

Cats and music may not seem the most obvious combination ever, but cats already have rhythm and empowering stage presence. Basically, they were born to be performers. Meowsic lessons are officially in session, and these feline musicians have arrived with no sheet music, no discipline, but more confidence than the entire band combined. 

These cats are the real stars of the home studio. They look like they are one meow away from releasing their debut album. Whether they are playing instruments or completely blocking you from practicing your instrument, sitting on amplifiers, judging your band rehearsal, or just loving the melodies, they are clearly ready for band practice.

Cats may not know music theory, but they understand the vibes. They know the emotional side of being a musician. They sit beside you while you play a song and make the moment feel softer, even if they are mostly there because the violin case feels comfortable. 

Cats could be tiny rockstars. Just try to picture a cat band. The singer would refuse to perform unless the lighting was perfect. The guitarist would be staring out the window, pretending they're composing a new song about heartbreak. The drummer would get distracted by the sticks. The pianist would walk across the keys and call it experimental jazz. The bassist would be asleep inside the case. Are they actually playing music? Maybe not. But the whole thing would still feel like art because cats have that kind of presence. 

So tune your guitars, bring your sheet music, warm up your meows, and enjoy these tiny meowsicians hitting every silly note. These musical cats are purrcussion experts, keyboard walkers, loud singers, and curious performers who think every amplifier, every instrument case, and every high piece of furniture is a stage. Whether they are composing pure chaos or giving off Meowzart energy while sitting on your bass, they are ready for their big debut. 

Cat logic is not meant to be understood. It's meant to be witnessed, analyzed, accepted, and maybe photographed. Every cat owner has seen their feline doing something completely random and thought, "Why are you like this?" The answer is always: because they're cats, and cats are weird. These cat pictures are for feline fans who love their cats at their strangest.

Weirdness comes with the package, so is the curiosity, the chaos, the cuteness, and the lack of embarrassment. But the funniest part is the confidence. Even when their choices make no sense to anyone else, cats have a very special way of moving with absolute confidence. That is the beauty of random cat behavior. It doesn't make sense, and it feels completely natural to them. They don't even try to be funny. They exist, and they live according to rules we don't understand. Maybe the curtains were suspicious and needed to be attacked. Who are we to question them?

Nobody expects to come home with a kitten after walking the dog.

Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit has a funny way of finding the people who swear they aren't cat people. This time, the delivery arrived on an ordinary dog walk, where one dad spotted a tiny kitten lying on the sidewalk. She was so weak she didn't even try to run when he and the family dog approached. Whatever his feelings about cats had been before that moment, leaving her behind was never an option.

He scooped the kitten into his arms and brought her straight home. While he may only tolerate the family cats, compassion won out the second he saw a helpless animal in need. The plan wasn't to add another permanent family member. Right now, the priority is getting her healthy, helping her gain some weight, and making sure she's ready to find a loving home if that's where her story leads.

The little kitten has already caught a lucky break. She was found with a tipped ear, meaning she'd already been spayed and vaccinated through a trap-neuter-return program. The family also plans to have her scanned for a microchip, just in case someone is searching for her. In the meantime, she's traded a lonely sidewalk for a safe place to rest, plenty of food, and people making sure she gets the care she needs.

Stories like this are a good reminder that being a "cat person" isn't always what matters most. Sometimes kindness shows up before labels do. One quick decision during a routine walk completely changed the course of this kitten's life, giving her the chance to recover instead of being left to struggle alone. Whether she stays with the family or eventually finds a different forever home, one thing is already certain: she found exactly the right person to stop and help when she needed it most.

The sweetest course of the meal always attracts the most whiskers.

Every cat is convinced dessert was invented with felines in mind. The second a slice of cake appears or someone reaches for the ice cream, a whiskered food critic magically arrives to supervise the situation. Dinner may have ended long ago, but dessert is a completely different meal as far as cats are concerned.

The approach varies from cat to cat. Some rely on the slow-and-steady method, inching closer to the plate one tiny paw at a time. Others skip straight to the dramatic stare, convinced enough eye contact will eventually earn them a sample. The boldest dessert detectives have no problem planting themselves front and center, making it crystal clear they're more than willing to help finish whatever's left.

Whipped cream has a way of bringing out everyone's inner purrfessional taste tester. Frosting-covered cupcakes suddenly become the most fascinating thing in the room. A donut left unattended for five seconds deserves a thorough sniff inspection. Even a single spoonful of ice cream is enough to send curious noses into overdrive. If something sweet is nearby, these cats are already conducting a full dessert investigation.

Confidence has never been in short supply. These cats don't tiptoe toward the dessert table like they're trying to get away with something. They march right up as if they're the guest of honor, fully expecting someone to pass them a bite. Every glance says the same thing: "That looks delicious, and it's only fair that everyone shares." Whether the answer is yes or no rarely changes the level of optimism.

Cat naming is a difficult deal, but some names choose the cats just as much as the cats choose us.

I always love a good dad joke. Especially when the dad joke is a literal cat name. I know that some people have a hard time naming their cats, so they end up with names like Cookie Jar Jar Binks, Elephant the III, or Rafi the Refrigerator. Cat naming is a meme in and of itself - take these four kittens with Hobbit names, for example. It's delightful. I also have a cat with a geeky name - she might be just Cassie, but if anyone asks, she's Cassandra Pentaghast (from Dragon Age). But I absolutely lose it when a cat's name is a complete joke. I love it.

That's exactly why I laughed so much finding out that @pizzaandluna's cat is named Pizza, after crying a little - because every abandoned kitten who's adopted makes me tear up. It's the emotional combination of being sad about the street conditions they had to endure, and being joyful for their happy ending after finding a forever home. And this orange precious Pizza is no different - besides the extra spicy sauce of the naming process. Seriously, such a healthy dad joke turned into a cat's name is one of my favorite niche comedy genres.

Besides, I really believe every cat person can relate to this strong pull one feels towards a stray cat they see, that they must take them home. It's all the Cat Distribution System's work. That's just how all of us cat people become cat pawrents. It's like I knew I had to adopt Cassie when I saw her. Just like this sweet couple knew they had to take that Pizza home instead of their original idea for dinner.

Having cats and babies in the same home is difficult, but cats are always babies.

I have a confession to make - since I had my daughter, my cat seems to distance herself slowly. I feel like I'm dealing with a classic situation of an older sibling who has to adjust to a new baby in the family. And I understand my cat - I was also an only child until a few years later when my younger sister came along. And I've been asking myself lately one question many times - how do I make sure my cat knows she's my baby? Because cats are always babies for their pawrents, and nothing will change that. For me, at least. But I'm sure many others can relate.

My daughter is cute and amazing, and… so is my baby. My cat is my daughter, the first one. And I love both the same. It is true, though, that my human baby has many more needs and requires much more attention. And all that consumes a ton of my time. A time that some of which would be dedicated to my cat - stopping mid-way to pet her when she blocks my path (but now I'm running after the baby who's trying to enter the litter box), playing with the laser pointer until very late at night (but now I have to go to sleep early, because my human daughter is a very early alarm clock I can't snooze). My cat was used to another type of routine.

But my cat always was, and always will be, my baby. Ever since she was a literal one-month-old kitten, saved from a stray cat mama abandonment, to now - when she's an older sister. Nothing will ever change that for me, and I truly hope I can make it clear to her as well. In the meantime, I'm going to drown my mind with some feline funnies, to feel better. All Grown Up!

Some people connect more easily with their inner child. Sometimes, so much so that it's difficult to distinguish them from the adult person also living inside them. If we got stuck at some developmental stage, maybe it's helpful for us to try to re-elaborate it once we are older. So maybe this husband treating his wife like a toddler isn't all that bad, and it ends up helping her overcome her inner toddler issues. Would you approve of this approach?

You know how in yoga classes, you sometimes end with a big "Oooooohhhhmmmm" to finish the class? Well, we're not going to make you do that awkwardly by yourself. But, we do have one thing that might help you feel better on this precarious last day of the work week. And the best part? We're not even going to force you to do it, but we have a feeling you might just do it on your own by the end of this post. That's because we know how much you love cats, and how you can't resist telling them how cute they are. We know because we're the exact same way.

Charging your daughter's boyfriend to sleep in a basement sometimes a month? That sounds a little crazy.

I like that it has become common for some parents to create a space in their house where their sons and daughters can live until they get enough money to move out. It's a clever way to show your children support without being in their business. It is giving them independence (their own space separated from the house) without exposing them to a financial burden before they are even 21 (they still live at home). That is great to preserve your child at the same time that you teach them how to manage their finances and save enough to, eventually, move out of the family home.

In this Reddit story, this tactic is being applied perfectly. The daughters contribute to the house without actually having to spend their whole paycheck. They get a great space to live (the basement), which is part of the house but separate to give them the space and independence they need. The problem is because one of the two daughters that they have, has a boyfriend. He sometimes stays the night with her, but he has not moved in or anything like that. The daughter's stepfather is not happy with this and tells the mom that this boy needs to start paying $350 a month for rent. The mother is not sure about this.

The mother admits that her husband has rights within their home and is fine if he doesn't like her daughter's boyfriend to stay so much. But she does feel like he has no right to parent her, as he's not her biological dad. She thinks that the approach his taking with this rent charge is really strong. She believes that a more preferable approach would be to set boundaries about how much he can stay.

Personally, I think that the mother is the one with actual rights to parent her daughter, and what she thinks is best is what they shall do. But what do you think about it? 
 

Sometimes, when the CDS chooses you, it doesn't actually choose you. It chooses your dog. 

Usually, when we get chosen by the CDS, it doesn't leave any room for interpretation. We know we were chosen. When my kitten followed me home on Independence day, I knew I was chosen. When my husband's cat walked into his home on his birthday, he knew he was chosen. When this man's cat flew in through his window, it fell directly into his lap. But when the kitten on r/CatDistributionSystem walked into the home of her new owners, they… weren't quite sure that it was them she was after.

And it's their own fault, really. When my kitten followed me home, I never told her that I didn't want her. I didn't dare. She chose me as her human, and I accepted it. They told this kitten that they didn't want a cat, and she heard them, and she said: "Yeah, I'm not looking for a human either." Because the CDS doesn't always pair humans with cats. Sometimes, it pairs cats with other animals. And in this case, it was this family's Great Dane that the kitty was after. 

The moment she walked into their home, she went straight toward her target. There was no fear. There was no hesitation. Some would say that there was no self-preservation instinct- when a kitten this small decides to walk straight up to a dog this big, rubbing up against him and heading right for his food. But she did it anyway. Because she knew. These were her forever doggos. The humans just kind of came with the house. And whether they wanted a kitten or not doesn't matter. They got one anyway, and from experience, I can tell you - they will love this kitten more than they have ever thought they could. 

Cheap dinner

As we get older, we realize that being part of a group often costs money. We have to go for drinks, we celebrate birthdays, and we have dinner parties. On birthdays, we buy gifts, drinks cost money, and dinners are expensive, even if they are hosted by a friend of ours. For some people, it's very hard to assume you don't have that much money, and they'd rather fake it 'til they make it. Sadly, money doesn't work like that, and no matter how much you fake it, you won't make much. This Redditor exposed a friend who apparently was living through that. His way of communicating this to his friend was rather debatable, though.

In a world where the timeline is filled with nothing but chaos and negativity, we really do need something soft to cleanse our eyes with. 

I don't know about you guys, but my timeline, for the past… six years or so, has been straight-up toxic. Something glitched in the matrix in 2020, and it simply has not been fixed yet. Basically since then, my timeline has been nothing but chaos and negativity. News that I don't want to see. Stories that there solely to rage-bait me into clicking them. Drama here, drama there, and just like with every classic toxic relationship, something keeps pulling me back in. Except, at least in this case, I know exactly what it is. It's cats. 

Listen, I was there before the madness of 2020. And even earlier than that. I was there during the classic time of the internet, when everything online was funny cat memes and adorable cat pictures. These things were always there. They're part of what made the internet so special, why people kept coming back. And that hasn't changed. Cats still rule the web. If you look closely enough, you will find the cute cat pictures and silly cat stories that you are looking for. They are just being swallowed up by the rest of the algorithm. 

And that's why we're here. That's why I'm here specifically, writing for ICHC. Because here, we bring you the things that you actually want to see. Here, I can sit down and put together the most wholesome collection of the cutest cat adoption stories and share it with you guys. I can create something uplifting, something cleansing, something purely cat and make it have an impact. Make it change someone's day. Make someone's frown turn upside down. This is your much-needed timeline cleanse, friends. 

I don't know what it is about banks this week, but maybe the cosmic forces of the universe are just catching up with them. Whatever the reason, this is no less than the third story I have seen of people handling their petty gripes with banks specifically in the last week alone. 

It's important to remember, as you're facing down your 3rd attempt to successfully navigate your way past an AI chatbot like you're reading a really bad "choose your own adventure novel," or one of those old video games where you typed in what limited option you wanted to choose to progress, that although things might seem like they're different, they also are exactly the same. 

Why would someone find any of these signs of a bad neighbor? And why shouldn't they say anything in 10 years?

Holding a grudge can be acceptable in some cases, but not when it is about your supposed-to-be friend and neighbor of 10 years. I don't really get what the real problem is with some people expressing their emotions, especially if they are mad at someone. If you have a friend and they did something kind of bad, I get why someone would be doubtful about bringing it out, in can cause the friendship to end, problems in a bigger friend group, or start unnecessary drama about something insignificant. But if you're really, really mad at your friend to the point that you want the friendship to fully end, why not say something? There is actually no reason to keep that to yourself, as the worst-case scenario has already happened. The friendship is over. Why would you not say something? And especially, why would you wait 10 years?

Another thing that I don't get about this Reddit story is the blocking. I never understood why some people find it easier to block someone from communication with you rather than simply saying, "I don't want to be your friend anymore". With the blocking, you are just creating an uncomfortable atmosphere that is functioning as a way to slow down an inevitable thing. The fact that you don't communicate that the friendship is over does not mean that you won't have to do it ever. With the blocking, you are advising the other person that something is wrong or weird, but they are going to eventually confront you about that, not just pretend that a friendship didn't exist at all.

Sometimes we should just rip the band-aid off. Tell the truth, be free, be honest. There is no reason to pretend that something that is over is still there. Just be courageous enough to admit your feelings and stop with the weirdness and doubt. Be forward.

Comforting chaos, that is what cat memes are. That is what they have always been to me. It's not just comfort, and it's not just laughs either. There is an element to cat memes that is so relatable that every cat person can understand it. When I scroll through these endless cat memes in search of the best ones to bring you guys, what I get is beyond just smiles. These memes make me think about my own purrfect little fluffball, my own little chaos machine at home. 

When I see a meme of a cat knocking something off the table, I think about my own cat doing the same thing. When I see a meme of a cat stealing food off someone's plate, I remember my lost piece of chicken from last Tuesday. When I see a meme of a cat yelling at a closed door, I think about every day of my life, multiple times a day, talking through the wood and trying to convince my cat that I'm not drowning in there and that she should stop worrying. 

These cat memes make me smile, yes, but they also comfort me when I'm stressed, and they make me laugh by reminding me of my own chaos maker at home, who is waiting for me to come back from the office. It's the purrfect combination. It's the one thing that always distracts me from the madness of the world, from the stress of deadlines, and from anything and everything else. I just need a few minutes to sit back and scroll through silly memes like these for everything to feel just a little bit less terrible. And I think that is something pretty pawsome. 

Someone must not have been used to calendars!

In these Reddit stories, we are always talking about Karen customers and entitled people, but for once we found a story that has only a service worker to blame. Usually when we are getting the point of view of employees, we hear stories about uneducated, malicious, and awful people. In this case, as it happens when service workers make a mistake, nobody is being ugly. Everything gets solved with respect, maintaining the interests of the customer. But why is it that if it were the other way around, we would have an opposite behavior? That is because service workers, when they are on the clock,  are obliged to be kind, friendly, and easy-going. Whether customers are only guided by their own manners –which are completely lacking most of the time.

This issue is a representation of modern society. The working class has to receive awful treatment for every little detail, while the people paying are getting everything they want most kindly. This may seem as if kindness was only able to be obtained with money, but it isn't like that.

As a society, we have a duty to be respectful and civil. I understand that sometimes a situation can get tense –especially when it's about money– and that can change someone's behavior. But there are other tools to control that. Firstly, there is no reason to get mad at somebody who didn't do anything wrong. If the problem was not caused by the person serving you, then do not bring it out on them. Secondly, even when we are mad at someone, we are still humans. People can make mistakes, and people have manners. So even if the mistake is really big, breathe deeply and deal with it calmly. Lastly, as the employees can make mistakes, so can the customers. If you acted badly towards a service worker, then apologize.

Everyone can make mistakes, but it is our job as members of society to avoid being disrespectful and treat people with kindness. 
 

Pets, we treat them like children, like family, like friends. They are loved ones.

It doesn't matter whether you like cats, dogs, parrots, or fish. Almost everyone has an animal of their liking, and the moment they decide to adopt one as a pet, it becomes the happiest. We sometimes tend to believe that we adopt a cat or a dog, but I believe they adopt us, as if they choose to be with us because as much as we love them, they love us back. Maybe we were the ones that found them in the streets or at shelter, but they were the ones that started to do a big celebration when we are back home after a long day, they are the ones that wiggle their tail every time we call their name, they are the ones that feel when we are not feeling so well and lay by our side as if they were protecting us. These aren't just cute animals. They are loved ones.  

I was scrolling through Reddit when I came across a thread about funny animal stories people had about their pets. This made me think of my cat. She's quite crazy –as most cats– which has brought me to several encounters with funny situations. She doesn't know about boundaries or prohibited places. If a door is open, you bet she's gonna go in. I have found her in the bathtub, the washing machine, the fridge, my closet, the cabinets, and even the dishwasher. If I leave something open, I know her instinct and curiosity will guide her inside, and most times I will find her comfortably laying as if she didn't notice that a closet filled with clothes is not her usual bed.

Something that I love about pets is the fact that they know that the home their owner lives in is yours, but cats are different in that sense. They don't think it is a shared space. They think it is theirs and that they just let you use it because you feed them. Is funny how the kind of behavior they have wouldn't be tolerated if it were coming from any other species, but cats are like that, and we love them anyway. 
 

Thank cat it's Friday! 

The weekend is finally here, finally we can all relax, take a deep breath, and get on our phones for a good ol' fashioned meme scroll. The world works in mysterious ways, and everything is always in a cycle. What we liked as a kid or teenager may be the only thing that can comfort us these days, and maybe that thing is scrolling cat memes. A soft whisper of the weekend already has us purring and praying for those two days of restful bliss when we feel like we are drowning in life. It's time to take a breath, enjoy the evening of furrever funny felines and freedom! 

Some people count down the workweek by watching the clock. Others treat themselves to fancy coffees or daydream about future vacations.
