Divorce is not only separating from your spouse, but it's also separating your whole life and responsibilities in half, and not everyone is good at managing that. 

When two people decide to file for divorce, they are often only thinking about separating from each other forever, as if that was what it was entitled to. It isn't. Divorce is not only about the couple itself, but it's also about everything that they had, whether that is a house or even children. When you get married, you're not only deciding to spend your life with someone. You're also agreeing to share everything that you have with someone else. You decide to form a family (even if that is only you two). Marriage is not only a way to celebrate love, but is also an agreement, a contract. And like every contract, you have to do your part. 

Unlike just being in a relationship without making the big step to marriage, when you are married, you have obligations when married and when divorced. These are things you have to do, and can't renounce. Even when the couple is completely separated, you still have to be obliged to certain things, such as child support, for example. If you had a kid during that marriage, you will have to either be the primary caregiver or provide enough money for the kid to live. This is usually the biggest problem when couples get a divorce. They think that their responsibilities are over. They aren't. You still have to care for your kid, and that is the number one priority. 

This Reddit story got me to think that sometimes things aren't so linear. Even though the main priority is to care for your child, maybe sometimes you could have a valid reason to not do it for a while. And that doesn't mean that the kid stops being the number one priority. It just shows that not everything can be the exact same for everyone. That is why court is always the best option to settle things up in the best and most fair way possible. Prioritizing the child's interests, but at the same time, not putting impossible standards on an unemployed person. 

No cat has ever accepted just one pet.

Cats always seem to know exactly when you're available to hand out scritches. You can be in the middle of working, watching TV, or getting ready to leave the house, and suddenly there's a furry little face nudging your hand like it's time to clock in for your shift. The job description is simple: pet the cat until further notice.

Every feline has their own purrsonal preferences. Some melt for forehead scritches. Others insist the chin is the only acceptable starting point. Then there are the cats who slowly lean harder and harder into your hand until you're practically holding their entire head up. If they could leave a review, it'd probably read, "Great effort, but keep the scritches coming."

Some cats ask nicely. A gentle head bump, a tiny chirp, or weaving between your legs usually does the trick. Others believe subtlety is overrated. They'll plop down on your keyboard, park themselves across your lap, or grab your arm with both paws like they're making sure you don't wander off before the cuddle session is over.

Petting a cat is never as quick as planned. One scratch behind the ears somehow turns into fluffing the cheeks, rubbing the shoulders, smoothing down the back, and telling them they're the cutest kitty to ever exist. By that point, the cat is purring like a tiny engine, making biscuits on the nearest blanket, and looking so pleased with themself that stopping almost feels rude.

Cats also have an impressive ability to keep the pets going. They'll walk away for a minute, then circle right back like they forgot one very important thing. More scritches. The shift clearly isn't over until the cat says it is. Until then, the purrs keep rumbling, the biscuits keep baking, and humans everywhere remain happily employed as full-time feline petting specialists.

Blame the planner, not the wedding

This is one of those stories where I understand where everything is coming from, and then it gets to a point where I say, hey, you could've just gotten a new wedding planner; cancelling the wedding was not necessary. But well, maybe through all those issues they realized a marriage ceremony wasn't as necessary, and they could just enjoy their love as it was and not get caught up in social ways of demonstrating it.

Maybe situations like this teach us that weddings should start to feel more like intimate celebrations with our loved ones and less like TikTok-approved, beautiful reels. To me, the self-proclaimed wedding planner is obviously in the wrong about this situation. It would've been much worse to follow along with the planning and have an insane wedding.

Why do cats always show up exactly when we need them?

I know cats have a reputation for being independent, aloof, and occasionally a little dramatic, but some of the sweetest moments I've ever experienced with animals have come from cats. They have a way of showing affection that feels earned. Maybe that's why it means so much when they decide to curl up next to you, follow you from room to room, or quietly sit nearby when you're having a rough day.

A few years ago, I was going through a particularly stressful period. Nothing catastrophic was happening, but it felt like every day brought a new problem to solve. One evening I came home exhausted, dropped onto the couch, and just sat there staring at the wall. My cat, who normally preferred spending her evenings judging me from the top of a bookshelf, hopped down and climbed into my lap. She stayed there for nearly two hours, purring the entire time. It sounds like a small thing, but I still remember how much better I felt afterward.

Isn't family supposed to support you?

It's always the ones you love the most that take the most out of you. Why? Because it's not just romantic love that blinds us, it's all kinds of love. You blow up at your brother, and it's horrible. But if you look closer, it's beautiful that you are so close with someone that you feel free to be able to allow yourself to voice such anger. You wouldn't yell at anybody else like that! Your mom makes you dinner every night, and then one night she is too tired, and now you don't know what you're going to eat! How annoying, right? Or maybe you should see that you're lucky to never have to worry about dinner; your mother made sure of that. Your feelings are valid; you are allowed to feel frustrated and angry, and the ones you love the most. It's a privilege! But just remember to always be thankful that you have that ability and make sure you know you are never entitled to it just because you love each other. 

Unfortunately, that's easier said than done. When you're in the midst of crashing out because your loved one did something that upset you, it's hard to see past the red and appreciate the big emotions you feel comfortable having with them. In the case of Redditor u/Brilliant-Jacket9000, her family stopped appreciating her efforts during her mom's birthday. She would go all out, cook, decorate, and everything! Nobody would ever help or say thank you, and they just expected it every year. So after 5 years, she called it quits, and the family blew up at her. They were unable to see what a privilege they had. 

Luckily, she stood her ground, and they went out. Her family is still acting entitled, but the rest of the internet has her back!

This orange mama cat was running out of time.

Every mama cat deserves a safe place to bring her babies into the world. Over on Reddit's r/cats subreddit, one orange kitten came heartbreakingly close to missing that chance after she was abandoned on a dirt road in the countryside with nothing but a tub of food. At less then a year old, she was already carrying a litter of kittens and left to face the outdoors on her own.

When this family found her, they noticed her round belly and panting, making them think labor had already begun. Thankfully, she just needed a chance to catch her breath. Once she was inside, the frightened cat settled down quickly. She was given a quiet room of her own while the family prepared for the arrival of her kittens, expecting they still had at least a little more time.

They didn't. Just two days later, Sunny, as she'd been named, went into labor while the house was empty. By the time her rescuers returned home, the orange mama was already welcoming her kittens into the world. They stayed by Sunny's side for the rest of the birth, making sure everything went as smoothly as possible. Despite everything she'd been through, Sunny handled it like a champ, and before long she was curled up with her babies, who quickly began nursing beside her.

For now, Sunny gets to focus on raising her kittens. When they're old enough, they'll head off to their forever homes through a local humane society, and Sunny will be spayed. Just a few days earlier, she was alone on a dirt road with nowhere safe to go. Now she's surrounded by warmth, food, and people who showed up when she needed them most.

Does helping a family member mean giving them unlimited second chances?

An older brother reached out to the community in r/AITH because he needs some help with the tight situation he's having with his younger brother. After the sibling lost his job, the homeowner agreed to have him move in for two months until he got back on his feet. Things didn't go as planned, since he ended up staying for nine months, a period during which he did not help with any chores or pay rent. Eventually, he moved in with a friend. Now, their landlord wants to sell the house, so he asked his older brother to move back in, and he refused.

This story showcases perfectly what a family conflict really is. Because there's always empathy and love towards your family that makes you want to help them as much as possible. However, if that help is crossing your boundaries, that's when the problem emerges. The older brother is totally entitled to refuse to have his sibling move in with him again, since he already knows how he's going to behave. Here's where the ethics and morals show up to make you feel bad about refusing to help your family.

On the other hand, the family is not trying to fix the situation in any way, shape, or form. On the contrary, they are making the older brother feel selfish and mean for letting the sibling move in with him. But I believe personal boundaries are the best way to keep relationships in check, especially when it comes to family. We're all grown-ups here, and we essentially know how we have to behave when moving in with someone. So, I stand with the OP and with his firm boundaries.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do

Sometimes an impossible issue just needs a different person looking at it, or someone who has a higher position in the company to take care of it. Sometimes, something we know is solvable just needs enough insisting until somebody pays enough attention. I think today's story teaches us that nothing is impossible, and that we should call every important person at the bank every single time we need something that's apparently off-limits.

The universe has a way of rewarding us for doing kind things. 

Being kind to animals is one of the most selfless acts of kindness, because more often than not, you don't get anything out of it. The same is true in the other direction. Being cruel to animals is one of the worst kinds of cruelty because animals have done nothing to deserve it. And abandoning a cat after a breakup is simple cruelty. Maybe the breakup was justified. The story is told on r/CatDistributionSystem gives us no way of knowing. And it doesn't matter. Either way, abandoning the cat with someone who didn't ask for it cannot be justified. 

It's lucky that this man cared about this cat enough to keep him. That's not a given. It's not something we can take for granted. He didn't care for cats. He didn't want a cat. He just knew that the cat didn't deserve this. To be abandoned, to be tossed around from home to shelter, from stranger to stanger, in the hopes that something will stick. So, he kept the cat, and of course, he ended up falling in love. Only to have his heart broken once again when someone he trusted let the cat escape. 

But the universe has a way of rewarding people for being kind. And just two weeks after Oreo disappeared, this man encountered a kitten in need of help. And because he's kind, he stopped. He helped. And he took the kitten in, planning on finding it a home. A kitten who looks so similar to Oreo. Except that the kitten wouldn't let him go, and although it hurts to keep the new kitten, it's also helping this man heal.

Oreo hasn't come back yet after disappearing, but we still have hope. We've heard of people reuniting with their cats years after they escaped. It's been two weeks. Maybe he's lost hope, but we'll keep holding onto it until Oreo comes back. 

How long should parents tolerate one-sided living arrangements?

A concerned mother reached out to the community in r/family because of the odd situation she's dealing with her daughter-in-law. Apparently, the girl had to leave her home and asked her boyfriend if she could move in with his family to save money. They agreed she'd pay $50 for household expenses, but after two years of living with them, she hasn't contributed to anything, not even paying that money.

We can totally imagine how the mother can feel in this situation. She was kind enough to let the girl move in with them because of the tight financial situation she was in, but at the same time, expected some type of contribution to the expenses. Since she's not having to pay rent, the least she could do is pay those $50 we know she can afford, or help with cooking or cleaning.

Of course, the mother feels a bit out of place if she has to demand the girl to help around, and debates whether talking with her son is going to help with anything at all. It's an awkward conversation to have, since essentially, she's demanding her to behave with manners she had to be taught at home. 

The part that sounds the most complicated to me has to do with the fact that she's not only not contributing at all, but she's also treating the home like it's her own by borrowing things without asking, and not being polite when reminded she needs to pay her part. And also, the worst part of all is that they cannot kick her out! If they agreed to have her move in, then somehow they have to make this work since they will not leave her on the streets!

Hot weather makes everyone a little dramatic. Even cats who love sunbeams feel betrayed by this hot temperature. And we get them. Nobody wants to be productive when the room feels like soup. And suddenly, your cat enters full melt mode until you turn on the air conditioning. They become fluffy puddles on the floor.

Summer chaos can wait, and the zoomies can be postponed. When the weather is this hot, cats deal with it in the best way they know: napping like the true nap champions they are. Today is for lying very still in front of the fan. And cats know that.

Cat owners know their pets can be dramatic in any season, all year long. But when the temperature rises, it's like cats would file a complaint with the sun. Summer is a lot. So grab a cold drink, turn on the AC, find some shade, and take good care of your cat. He may look at you like you are personally responsible for the weather. Theoretically, you are not, but if you don't turn on the fan or the AC, then you are a little responsible for it. And that's when the heatwave meows come. Those heatwave meows aren't normal meows. They are slow, dramatic, and sound slightly offended. 

We should all take notes from cats. Haven't you looked at your cat during a heatwave and thought "same"? When the summer gets too intense, we should commit to the nap, like our cats do. Because sometimes, the only reasonable response to hot weather is to become a puddle, lying on your couch with the AC set on 75°F. 

Have you ever experienced a weird real-life crossover?

You would hardly ever expect to find two people from entirely different circles who know each other. Especially when you personally know both of them and have never introduced them before. Our different social spheres tend to be completely separated: we have co-workers, college friends, childhood friends, family, and more. All of them are neatly organized so they never cross. Mind you, it's not necessarily on purpose; it just happens naturally. And we like it that way; it keeps our thoughts organized. That's why it feels so weird to mix people from different social circles. It's unexpected, and confusing, and we're not sure it's gonna work. 

Reddit user u/Echo-Forge had one of these uncomfortable crossovers. He had been complaining to her girlfriend about his boss for a few months. Not so much, just the normal amount of ranting, and she laughed at the criticism, never mentioning anything else. One day, she posted a video of her new vacuum, and, surprise, the boss commented on it. But that's not the weirdest part. The weirdest part was the boss knowing that it was his employee's house. Talk about an invasion of privacy…

Let's be mature about this. We don't always know EVERYONE our partner knows; that's relatively normal. Especially work people, when we work at different companies. So, it's not impossible that the girlfriend found the boss on Instagram casually (or maybe he found her) and simply started to follow each other without knowing who he was. Maybe they have mutual friends, or live nearby. Who knows? Maybe she didn't know that her boyfriend's boss was the same guy she followed on social media. Maybe he has a really common name, and she didn't put two and two together. Not everything has to be suspicious. 

My biggest question here is: how did the boss know whose house it was? That's suspicious. And that's why I would ask the girlfriend if she knows him in person or knows who he is. Just ask her something, anything, but ask HER.  Let's just start asking our partners about the things that concern us, shall we? I swear, it'll save us a ton of time and lower our stress levels. 

"Dear neighbor, my parking spot isn't emergency parking for your guests."

How many of your neighbors need to be told these exact words? If you ask me, I would have put these words on a billboard and hung it up in the middle of my neighborhood for all residents to see. Every day, someone ignores the clearly assigned parking at our building complex, and every day, another dispute ends up in our communal group chat.

The conversation always goes somewhere along the lines of: "Who parked in parking space number X? That is my spot, and it must be cleared out right now!" Then, after a solid 15 minutes, someone else has the courtesy to finally reply and admit, "That was me, sorry." (The "sorry" is rare, if I'm being completely honest). And then another discussion ensues about the nerves of people who park in a space that isn't assigned to them.

I wish there were a way to get people to respect these rules and not disregard them, but if there is one, I have yet to find it. This means that people like the entitled neighbor in the story below still exist, and still allow themselves to take what isn't rightfully theirs.

The resident who shared this story on r/EntitledPeople arrived home one day to find a stranger's car parked in their assigned space. After some digging, they discovered the car belonged to a neighbor's guest, but even after they confronted the neighbor, the car still remained in the same space. Apparently, the neighbor thought that every single resident had a responsibility to make her guest feel welcomed, including giving up their own parking spots just so the guest wouldn't have to park on the street.

Eventually, the resident managed to put this entitled neighbor in her own spot, and didn't give up until the car was finally moved. Will that stop her from ever doing it again? Only time will tell…

The cone of shame is temporary. Emotional support cuddles are forever.

Just like we don't like (is a nice way of putting it) going to the dentist, most cats don't love going to the vet. Between getting them in the carrier, the car ride, the waiting in an unfamiliar place, and all the new sounds and people, it can be a pawsitively stressful situation each time. But, every feline is going to have to go to the vet at some point, and they will probably come home with the "cone of shame" at least once in their lives. 

If you thought the vet was stressful, then watching your cat deal with the cone of shame is especially tough. Felines rely on their whiskers a lot for spatial awareness, so when they can't use them, they get extra clumsy and upset. It's one of the hardest things you expurrience as a pawrent, watching them struggle and constantly request that you release them from their plastic prison. You have to simply tell them that it's only temporary, and try to calm them down as much as you can. Sometimes, though, the most comfort comes not from you as their pawrent, but from their best doggo friend, like in Reddit's r/aww community.

After getting home with a poorly placed cone of shame, this cat's doggo sibling immediately felt their discomfort and distress, and immediately went to hug them. The following pictures are heartwarming enough to melt even the iciest of hearts, so prepurr yourself for a whole lot of wholesomeness. This post is further proof that cats and dogs can be friends, even best friends, and some of the cutest cuddle buddies you'll ever meet. We wish this kitty a swift recovery, and lots of snuggles until then.

Treating your wife like a toddler to prove a point may not be the great decision you think it is.

Parenting is hard, and only they can really judge how they do it. Nobody has the power to tell anyone if their way of parenting is good or bad. That is something people need to discover for themselves, more like an intuition rather than a scale. They aren't perfect parents, and most people do a fine job raising kids. Even though it is hard and super demanding, they end up having raised functioning adults who are good people, which is the main thing.

Having that in mind, there are always some things that, even for the people who don't have kids, may seem obvious as "not okay to do". In this Reddit story, we see several pieces of proof of that. First, we have a mother who is trying to oblige her 5-year-old daughter to wear a dress when she doesn't want to. That seems like a big problem out of nothing. She's 5, is fine if she doesn't want to wear a dress for once. Second, the mom decides to punish the kid, taking away her toy rabbit just because she wouldn't wear a dress. This is a big punishment over something almost insignificant. Also, taking away a kid's stuffed animal seems so harsh for a simple punishment, especially when they are still in the developing phase. Lastly, the dad decides to expose her wife's behavior, dismissing her in front of the child and treating her as a toddler to prove a point.

Even though the whole situation seems like the escalation of a simple situation to total drama. I do think that the worst part is how the dad acted. Dismissing your wife in front of the child is something you just DON'T do. It can be a bigger problem in the future and can cause issues in the child's behavior. If you think that your partner is doing something unfair, talk about it in private. Also, treating an adult like a child is disrespectful, especially if it's your wife. The conclusion is that the mom was wrong, and that is clear, but the way the dad handled the situation is even worse.
 

Imagine if our cats could call the doctor. After Thanksgiving, they'd be like, "Hello, doc? My hooman ate an entire turkey and is acting lethargic, should I be worried?"

Some cats are calm grazers, and others aren't. Especially the orange ones - in my purrsonal experience, they're the most food-obsessed little maniacs I've ever met. But it's not always the orange ones, any cat can be the biblical incarnation of greed and inhale any food within eyesight. Not even your hooman food is safe. I once had a cat that would pretend to get injured while I was eating, so I would leave my plate unattended, and as soon as I found them (purrfectly fine, by the way), they would run to our plate and try to steal our lunch. The kitten in our video below from Reddit's r/CATHELP community seems like he's going to grow up into one of those kinds of cats.

While his hooman's back was turned, the 2-month-old kitten scarfed down a nearly full can of tuna and started acting lethargic after. Like any pawrent, we would be rightfully concerned and immediately seek veterinary help. However, by the time they got to the vet, their smol kitten seemed to be already recovering. The vet told them that, for lack of a better term, he was just in a food coma. A very dramatic one, but a food coma nonetheless.

By the time they got home, their kitten had already rememebered that he was pawsitively capable of causing chaos. Running, playing, and back to his normal self. Ah, pawrenthood. Isn't it fun?

Every pawrent has at least one of these scares with a young pet. They did the right thing by seeking veterinary help so quickly, but we have a feeling that this might be their first kitten. Why? Because any seasoned feline owner would know never to leave a can of tuna unattended, even if there are only kittens around. Never underestimate a cat and their desire for a scrumptious can of tuna.

People can have complicated relationships with food because of culture, family habits, or body image, and it's not something that can be easily explained or controlled. We get that, and we respect that. But this is not one of those situations. The real issue here is food waste and someone's inconsiderate attitude.

The daughter's boyfriend doesn't want to eat in front of people, and that seems to be a phobia, so we won't blame him for that, and we respect that. But that doesn't mean everyone else has to keep paying for expensive restaurant meals that go untouched, or keep watching homemade food get thrown away into the trash. We should separate those things. Accepting food to throw it away is not respectful either. 

He doesn't have to eat in front of the family if he doesn't feel comfortable. But he also doesn't need to order a full meal and then throw it out. If they're at a restaurant, that wastes money for them. And if they're at home, it wastes time, effort, groceries, and care. Why do you have to pretend to eat, only to throw away everything afterward? There must be a way to do things differently. 

He seriously needs to find a way to deal with his phobia and stop making his girlfriend's parents waste food and money. He could pack food to go and then eat alone. He could join for conversation but skip the meal. He could say he already ate, and then eat somewhere alone. There are ways to spend time together without wasting an entire plate. And above all things, an honest conversation would totally make things better.

The parent should probably avoid calling him out or banning him from meals, because that will only make things worse, and he could feel affected personally. But respect goes both ways. The boyfriend may be dealing with something, but the family is also allowed to set limits around wasted food and money.  

What does being a feline fanatic really mean?

We think being a feline fanatic, a true cat lover through and through, has to come in three stages:

First, you've got to be raising at least one cat. Sure, some people go full Crazy Cat Lady and adopt two dozen cats. But it's not a thing to be ashamed about whatsoever - if our lady and savior Enya, the angelic Irish singer who lives for decades in Manderley Castle with her 12 cats, can do it - so can anyone else. Low-key dream life. But again, you only have to raise the one and only cat to start qualifying as a true feline fanatic fan. Because if you don't let cats inside your home, and let them live as your fluffy overlords, that's not going to cut it. 

Secondly, you have to adore your cat (or cats) to a level where your house becomes a cat shrine, more or less. It doesn't have to happen overnight - sometimes it's a gradual shift. Let's say you adopt a black cat, and little by little, your house is filled with black cat memorabilia - little statues, posters, stickers, cutlery, etc. You might not notice, but your house might just turn into a shrine of love and adoration for your cat. And again, there's nothing bad in it. Having a cat-themed interior design actually sounds great, in our humble cat-loving opinion.

Lastly, if you're a true feline fanatic, your own cats are not enough. Well, not that they're not enough - every cat is a whole world of whiskers and wholesomeness. But whenever you're doing literally anything away from your beloved cats - there's always cat content online. The feline funnies we all adore and love, and make us laugh in the middle of the day, just because.

Look, we're not saying that adopting a cat has some mysterious magic involved in it - even though adopting a cat is meowgical in and of itself. But we're talking about the supernatural magic-y way of using the word. We can't really know for sure, maybe ever, if there's a supernatural aspect of cat adoptions that makes them truly out of this world. But we know for certain people talk about the Cat Distribution System like it's a real deal, but also… not real? Let us explain.

Nobody knows what the Cat Distribution System actually is, but it's usually referred to as the meowsterious body, entity, or shadow organization that makes all these magical cat adoptions possible. Whenever people mention them, we think of them like the elite secret agents in The Coincidence Makers book, whose job is to shape people's destinies through meticulously planned events. It's a behind-the-scenes sort of work, but it seems like they make it happen time and time again.

Take u/manytractorprojects's story, for example -  he was just talking to his partner about not necessarily wanting to adopt another cat after their senior buddy will eventually pass over the rainbow bridge. But apparently, the CDS heard it all and noted it immediately, flagging it for immediate action. And just like that, the couple finds a kitten that was hiding in the walls of their house. Is it a coincidence, or is it a meticulous plan executed by… who knows?

You see? This is why we can't make up our minds about the matter. Because if there really is a supernatural aspect to cat adoptions, it's very apparent, allegedly. But how could we be sure it's the job of the CDS? Maybe cats are magical creatures, and we were just blind to the fact all along? And if that's true, and magic really does exist in the world in the form of cats, do we even need fantasy books at all?
