Since when has the internet become our confessional box?

I guess since the internet started, but it's nonetheless interesting to watch. People would much rather tell their deepest secrets to a stranger online than to a friend, a therapist, or whomever they're having an issue with. There is just something about telling secrets to a stranger, right? And that something is the lack of implication that person has in the details of our lives, or the lack of capacity to directly affect the framework of our lives, that lets us feel free. To me, taking the first step of telling our problems to a few strangers before we act on them is a good one. The thing about the internet is that, to me at least, it can always lead back to you, plus it stays there for ages. It's not like words in a therapist's office or in a confessional box that go with the wind.

And somehow cooking disasters always taste better as memories…

There is something oddly comforting about trying a new recipe, even when it goes completely off the rails. Maybe the bread never rises, the pasta turns into mush, or the cake comes out looking nothing like the picture, but every failed attempt teaches you something for next time. Home cooking has never been about perfection anyway. 

It is about experimenting, making mistakes, and discovering that even the biggest kitchen disasters can become stories you'll laugh about for years. If nothing else, they remind us that every confident home chef started by burning, overcooking, or accidentally inventing something completely inedible.

You may think that I'm an excellent cook based on the way that I'm describing my feelings here. However, let me break it to you and disclose that cooking is not one of my many talents. I'll say that I ended up mastering the art of whipping some dinner up for myself, but other than that, I'm a great eater rather than a cook.

And even though I struggled with this in the past, since I wanted to be one of those people who, with three ingredients, can put together a masterpiece for my taste buds, I realized that I might stick with the cooking fail memes rather than the kitchen. I'm glad with this outcome, really. I'm happy to be the person you reached out to when you need some comfort after a battle with pots and pans. 

But hey… don't feel discouraged. We sometimes need to try different hobbies out until we meet one that we enjoy and that we feel good at. Because, let's face it, is not only about enjoying yourself and relaxing… we sometimes want to feel we're good at a certain activity and there's nothing wrong with that! 

While we have gotten far too used to the emotional rollercoaster rides that most kitten rescues involve, this story we have lined up for you today is quite the sweet and simple antidote. A tale of an abandoned kitten who needn't have walked more than a few small steps to be saved from a life on the streets.

Now, we would like to start by saying that the reaction, understanding and knowledge of the young cat lover from the story below who saved this kitten is astounding. Kids her age very rarely know so much about cats, let alone the rescue of kittens, but she used her know-how to make some super critical decisions that without a doubt saved the 3 week old's life. Decisions that hoomans far older and far more knowledgeable than her would have found hard to make and that could have cost the kitten its life instead. Perhaps that is the great gift of youth, the ability to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

It all began when our rescuer's dog was going nuts, barking and whining at the front door. Trying to alert her young pawrent that there was something afoot outside. From there things escalated quickly as she found the 3 week old kitten alone on the side walk helpless. Knowing that it was not her place to immediately take the kitten home, she stepped back inside to wait and see if momma came back for her baby. But when rain clouds started to move in and water began pouring from the sky, our young rescuer had one heck of a decision to make.

 

You know that feeling when someone's not nice to you over their own mistake, and you just... quietly stop trying? That's this story's whole tax right there. Nobody announces it, nobody writes it into policy. It just happens the second someone decides being condescending is a valid response to messing up.Here's the thing about normal people: they mess up, they say sorry, everyone moves on. And because they were decent about it, you end up doing them a favor without even thinking twice. Free shipping, a little extra effort, whatever. It costs you nothing and it makes their day slightly better. That's just how humans work when nobody's being a meany.

One chaotic cat is hard enough, but when two criminal cats work together, you get something iconic. 

Everyone knows that cats are capable of committing crimes. That's part of the deal. You adopt a cat, you know that your furniture will be scratched, your food will be stolen off your plate directly from under your nose, and your favorite breakable items will meet their end against the hard floor. That's how it is. That's how cats are. It doesn't matter that cats sleep for most of the day. The few hours in which they are awake are hours full of chaos and hilarious disorder. That's one cat. You adopt one cat, you get all of that. Two cats working together on their crimes… now, that is something special. And the criminal cat duo in today's story is an extra special one. 

One of the cats is a calico, and if you know anything about calicos, you know that they are dramatic, spicy, the kings and queens of the household. They like getting the things that they want, and they will fight for those things. The other cat is a stray ginger cat, and that should tell you everything you need to know about him. Ginger cats are ridiculous, and that's what they are known for. Most of the time, they are not the most brilliant creatures, but what they always are is daring, fearless, and persistent. If they want something, the consequences will matter not. They will do everything it takes. And this ginger cat wanted inside. The fact that the calico used her intelligence and made a deal with him, convincing him to open the door for her so she could escape, well… that is exactly the kind of chaos that we would expect from a criminal cat duo. 

It's all a question of money

People react to not having money in the most random ways. Sometimes it's easier to have a fight with someone than for them to admit they don't want to pay you back because it's too much money for them, and not because of some rationalization about a cat's health, lol. Either way, when someone pushes back this hard, the only two possible solutions would be to insist until they pay you back, or back down and get away from them; the sad part is that it is about money, and that it is about money you spend out of your pocket to help a friend and an animal at the same time.

This kitten wasn't meant to survive the first 24 hours after being found, but she is a fighter. 

As a cat owner myself, even just the thought of losing my cat is an unbearable one. My sweetheart is 11-years-old already, and even though I write stories every day about cats who reach very old ages, I also see the ones who don't. I try to make every second with her count, and I try not to think about the day it'll all be gone. Because I can't. She is my first cat, my soul cat, my everything, and I don't know how long it will be before I'll be able to adopt again after her. But a situation like the one in today's story might get even me to deal with the future grief differently. 

If I, like this person, right after losing my cat, found a sick kitten in desperate need of help like this one, I wouldn't have been able to look away either. This kitten was 8 weeks old, 1 pound in weight and half-blind, and she wasn't meant to survive the first 24 hours of her life after being found. Of course, when this person rescued this kitten, they didn't know this. They saw that she wasn't well, but they couldn't know that the situation was so dire. And while still dealing with the grief over their own cat, they had to deal with the news that this one was likely not going to make it. But they didn't give up on her, waking up every hour or so to feed her and help her. And the kitten didn't give up either. She had hope now for a better future, and she wanted to live, so she fought for it. And right now, she is doing so, so much better. 

Is not really about misunderstanding, but more about playing dumb to get what they want.

There is a difference between genuinely not understanding what you are hearing and simply playing dumb to avoid accountability. Customer service teaches you how to distinguish it in a second. This Reddit story is proof that some customers love to treat employees as if they were the dumbest people, especially if it can get them something for free. I've already talked before about how much some people will fight just to get something comped. There is nothing new in that. But pretending to not understand the language to avoid paying –when you already proved that you understood everything else– is an original experience.

Playing dumb can sometimes work. I get why some entitled guest who is trying to avoid paying for a room reservation may use it. But it can't go on forever. To just try it, it's wildly disrespectful towards the front desk employee that has to put up with you, but to sustain it for a long time because you just want to avoid paying is on another level entirely. You want a room. Then you have to pay for it. There is no exception. It doesn't matter if it's cheaper somewhere else, or if you are an influencer. You need to pay for it!. Do it and stop wasting the poor employees' time. They have better things to do than to deal with a disrespectful and cheap guest.

With all these stories, I always think about the satisfaction the customer service workers are probably feeling once the interaction is over. It probably feels like taking your high heels off after a long day. That relief after people get on your nerves during a whole shift for things that were never going to happen is crazy. There should be some way these people could defend themselves to reduce these kinds of interactions. Nobody deserves to have to put up with this nonsense for hours every day. And customers have to be nicer. There is no way some people cause this much trouble to workers. They need to stop. 
 

A mechanicat, if you will

Turns out the Cat Distribution System doesn't just distribute cats to the people who need them. It's apparently running a full staffing agency now, complete with job placement services, and this time it decided a stray belonged behind the wheel of a career in automotive repair.

Stay away from loans and credit cards (I wish I could)

To me, what this woman has to do is obvious, but it's still crazy how people can try to guilt-trip you into nonsense.  It's almost never a good decision to take on debt unless you are starting a really promising business, but it's definitely never a good decision to take on debt to help someone you never even talked to. I think all this stems from a deeper issue within the family; it seems like the niece's father doesn't know how to help and will try to manipulate anyone into doing that. And the issue with her grandmother? This shouldn't even be a question; she obviously doesn't have to get involved. There is too much trouble around it. I do want to say we should try to help our family members whenever we can; I have been helped and will be thankful for it all my life, but I have worked somehow to get that, I have a good relationship with the people who have helped me, I've shown time and time again that I'm responsible, that I can hold a job, so if someone lends me money, they can trust I will give it back. If you're asking for help and you have a reputation for being irresponsible, you should work on that. However, this is still not this aunt's responsibility, and after seeing all the family issues that arose, she should definitely try to take a step back and at least talk about this with her niece. Why don't we solve our problems through talking anymore? lol…

Is knowing basic programming languages a skill that we will ever need to know again? How many other skills have come and gone in the last 30 years?

I happen to be great with Photoshop and quickly masking and editing images. As quick as I may be, it is a skill set that AI has totally replaced and can do in two seconds for me now.

There's some sort of synergy, a symbiosis even, between a cat's mood and their human's mood. We know that when our cat is happy and feels great, we do too. We're happy to see our cats being happy. And when our cat is not in such a great mood? Well, you probably know it from yourself as well - we try to uplift their moods by being happy together. This is the happy cat way: how we can lift both ours and our cat's mood at the same time. But for that, we all need to be in a good mood, at least. And that's done in the best way pawssible…

The online cat content has kept cat people entertained for decades now, and was always here to help all of us, people with cats in our souls, to feel happier. Parents' financial problems are passed on to their child without them having a say in the first place when they bought a car without asking. Is that fair?

When you are a kid, the only people responsible for your finances are your parents. They not only take care of it but are also the sole providers. That extends, according to each family, for several years. Some people, after their 18th birthday, decide that the child –now an adult– has to be fully independent and provide for themself. Other parents think that it is best to continue supporting their offspring until they graduate from college or get a good job. This is not a decision taken solely on what parents think is best. It also has to do with how much money they have and the state of the household finances.

Which brings me to my second point, the story below. Not all families have the financial stability to take care of their child's expenses once they've grown out. There is nothing wrong with that. After all, these "kids" have already acquired the maturity to have their own responsibilities and independent finances. Having a job at that age and living on your own are great ways to learn responsibility and to become the best version of yourself during adulthood. We need to face our own issues without a parent or guardian to fully learn how adult life works.

The problem appears when the child not only has to take care of their expenses, but also spending that this person did not do. This user wasn't the one who decided it was a good idea to buy a car and pay for it with monthly car payments. The parents are to blame for that decision-making. They did have good intentions, but it turned out to be a new concern for this young adult's life. Now they have to postpone moving out to pay for something they never expected to be in charge of paying in the first place. This family had an arrangement. Due to financial problems, it had to change. But that doesn't seem completely fair. And probably it isn't, but that is the problem with adult life. It isn't fair. You have to be responsible for things that you didn't even decide. We cannot fight it. Nobody can pay for the car. The owner is the child. If they want it, they need to start taking care of the payments. It doesn't matter that they weren't the ones who bought it.

Despite this very happy ending for a Trojan cat mama and her bonded sister, we want to make something very clear before we continue: we do not endorse giving cats as birthday gifts. Or any pet as a birthday gift. Or just giving animals as gifts by surprise in general. Animals are living, breathing, feeling creatures with wants, needs, desires. Each of them is a world in and of itself, ready to be adopted and loved just like anyone else. Yes, some cat gifting has happy endings, and we love seeing that - but the concept of giving a living thing as a surprise to someone who didn't plan on committing to caring for them and preparing themselves in advance is just 

There are plenty of examples in which gifting a cat goes wrong. Take this one gifted kitten who was abandoned, for example. No one asked the woman who received her as a gift if she wanted a cat, but she wasn't making good decisions in the situation either - she just left the kitten to fend for herself outside and left for an entire weekend. Luckily, she found herself in the safe hands of a neighbor who adopted her instead. There was also the story of a boyfriend who wanted to gift a cat to his girlfriend, but she chose another cat. He was offended, but we don't understand why - you need to connect to the cat you adopt. You need to choose them on your own.

But here, with this husband who was surprised with seven cats, we have a completely different ending that honestly melted our hearts. We love it when cats land in the hands of the person who will love them forever - and this family seems to have the right intentions with these cat sisters and the five surprise kittens that came with them. A birthday gift or not, knowing that a cat got their happy ending in a forever home that gives them nothing but love and safety is always an instant heartwarmer. We're so happy for them.

So, happy birthday, you happy man! You clearly have a loving wife who knows what you want, and a big heart to contain so much cat love in your house. Cheers!

Gloating isn't a good look. We all know this. Feeling better about your own life because someone else's day imploded is not exactly the emotional high ground. And yet, we do it anyway, because that's just how the human brain is wired. We are social creatures who thrive on knowing we are not alone in our misery, and nothing confirms that like watching someone else's workday collapse.

We've all had bad days at work. We've all sent the email to the wrong person, mixed up an order, broken something expensive, or made a decision that seemed reasonable for exactly four seconds before reality corrected us. But there's a difference between a bad day and the kind of day that ends up as a photo circulating the internet with strangers laughing at it. That second category deserves recognition, mostly because it means someone else's Thursday was worse than yours, and that's the emotional support we all secretly need.

That, and remembering Thursday, means almost weekend, and almost weekend means we're almost ok.

Timing is everything, as they say. 

To do, or not to do? The question that looms above many as they ponder between this and that, yes or no, or what to do. Life is full of limitless choices, and it can feel impossible to know what to do. Sometimes it feels like you'd prefer to have a taste of both lives and then decide which you want, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. No one gets a crystal ball, all we get is the ability to let go of expectations or a piece of mind about the decision once we've made it. I don't get it; this would be a total fantasy for me. We're talking about a fully paid week of labour, in which we don't have to work at all, and you get to prepare for your next job. It's like a vacation but better. If I were the manager, I would file this under the 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' category and move on. The employee can always organize a different going-away celebration.

 

Something old, something new

Honestly, I would never miss something like this. First of all, the fact that this therapist is a friend of the family is extremely weird; I don't even know if it's ethical. Second, wouldn't you want to know what the vibe is and stir the pot a bit? I understand this is a very strange way of being the center of attention, and it's certainly not for everyone, but if you are secure with yourself, isn't it a bit exciting? Lol. If you enjoy weddings and like a little drama, this situation presents itself like the perfect playground to do whatever. You can spend all night ignoring them; you can try talking to them about anything, being very charming and forcing THEM into an uncomfortable position. The world is your oyster! I can't imagine what the fomo of not going to that party feels like; in my opinion, it's definitely way worse than going and checking the vibe for yourself. Of course it depends; if you are still really hurt and seeing your ex would catapult you to despair and no other destination, I get it; but if it's more or less gotten over with, and it's uncomfortable but there is a chance to turn things around, I wouldn't hesitate to take it. To me, this is an excellent opportunity to show up and show everyone what you're really made of (kindness and maturity lol), and to also have a great night. I mean, your ex is your ex for a reason, right? He no longer determines anything about your life.

The universe and cat distribution system work hand in hand…or paw in paw…something like that. 

We never know what the universe has in store for us until it happens. When one day we're going about life knowing exactly what's around the corner, and then one day our lives can change forever. There's no predictions, there's no use in even considering we know something when we don't. With the cat distribution system, this can feel even more intense.
