Should a teacher change a student's grade after a parent brings in a better version of the project? 

A middle school teacher gave a student a B on a science project that was supposed to be completed mostly during class. A few days later, the student's mom showed up with a much more polished version of the same project, complete with fake moss, plastic animals, and professionally printed labels. She asked if the grade could be reconsidered. The teacher declined, and before long, the disagreement made its way to the school administration.

The moment I read that the mom arrived carrying a giant box with the "real" project in a post shared on r/AmItheAsshole by u/Eugene_Roberts, I had to laugh. There's a certain type of school assignment that somehow starts as something a kid puts together during class and ends up looking like it belongs in a museum exhibit. And honestly, the fake moss is usually the giveaway. No middle school student has ever stared at a shoebox diorama and thought, "You know what this ecosystem needs? Better landscaping."

What makes the whole thing even more amusing is that the assignment was never about building the most impressive-looking model. The teacher's goal was to see what students actually understood about ecosystems and food chains. If presentation becomes the deciding factor, then maybe parents should start receiving grades, too. Imagine report cards with categories like "Hot Glue Expertise," "Decorative Design Skills," and "Ability to Locate Tiny Plastic Animals on Short Notice."

To her credit, the teacher seems to have handled the situation with a lot of patience. Instead of shutting the conversation down, she offered the student a chance to correct mistakes and earn back some points. That feels like a fair compromise. The student gets an opportunity to improve, while the original expectations of the assignment still mean something.

The person I probably feel for the most is the student. Standing there while your parent argues that your project should be replaced with a shinier, more elaborate version has to be uncomfortable. At that point, you're probably not even worried about the grade anymore. You're just hoping nobody makes eye contact and the whole situation ends as quickly as possible.

A B is a perfectly respectable grade. And learning that deadlines matter, and that not every problem can be fixed by an adult stepping in at the last minute: is probably a lesson that will stick much longer than any science project. Even one covered in decorative moss, miniature wildlife, and museum-quality finishing touches.

If there were ever a textbook example of the Cat Distribution System at work, Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit would approve of this one. A mail carrier was going about their normal route when a tiny kitten emerged from the bushes and immediately decided they were the chosen human for the job. The kitten refused to leave their side, creating the kind of heart-melting situation that every cat lover secretly dreams about.

Unfortunately, the timing wasn't ideal. The mail carrier was still within their 90-day probation period and couldn't take the kitten home, no matter how badly they wanted to. As difficult as that decision was, help arrived at exactly the right moment.

A woman walking her dog spotted the kitten and instantly fell in love. She was so excited that it was obvious this little furball had already won her over. Better yet, she promised to take the kitten to the vet, check for a microchip, get her cleaned up, and make sure she received proper care. If no owner was found, the kitten would have a safe and loving future ahead of her.

The mail carrier already had a former stray at home who needed to remain the only cat, making the decision even more bittersweet. Still, they knew it was the right one. Sometimes loving an animal means doing what is best for them, even when it is hard.

In the end, this tiny kitten found exactly what every cat deserves: a human who looked at her and immediately saw a lifetime of love.

A landlady lets herself into a tenant's room without permission, brings a stranger in to look at it, cleans it, moves things around, loses some earrings in the process, finds a new renter, and then texts her tenant expecting a thank you, which is either the most confident property management strategy ever attempted or a very elaborate way to end up in courtThe audacity here is complex, multi-layered, pretty impressive if you ask me. It's not just your everyday entering without permission, which is already illegal. It's the bringing of a total stranger into a tenant's private space, moving things around based on her own personal preferences, and then texting about it afterward like she deserved a thank you. The confidence required to do all of that and still expect gratitude is, again, impressive in the worst possible way.Most landlords at least pretend to follow the rules. This one skipped that part entirely and went straight to letting herself in, bringing a stranger along, and cleaning someone else's room like she was doing them a favor.

Not many cat lovers would dare go after the affection of a feral feline, we simply know better. But this story's cat dad simply could not help himself and with a lot of patience managed to convert the feral feline into a cuddly cat child.

Reddit's r/Feral_Cats subreddit is a place filled with failed stories of hoomans who so desperately wanted to save a stray cat's life but simply could not handle the madness and chaos that can come with feral life. Even endless patience is not enough to ensure that you will have a loving and lasting relationship with the cat in question.

Meaning that much like the pawrent of this success story, so too did other pawrents have to come prepawed for the long haul and that there is a good chance failure will be the outcome. Yet, despite these odds being stacked against him he came out victorious, adding four more paws to his family of three cat children. What a wonderful win for cat-kind, for pawrents everywhere and for the feral felines searching fur their furever homes.

 

How do you handle an unhinged landlord?

There are just annoying landlords, and then there are controlling ones. They both are not ideal, but the controlling ones are definitely move-out-asap material. At least the annoying ones you can try to ignore. The controlling ones will invade your living space as much as they can. I had a landlord who let themselves in on their own accord for some bogus reason, and you better believe that was enough to have me looking for a new place. 

This family had a controlling landlord. They tried their best to simply live with it and try to appease the man. He was old and senile, but it was all too much. After months of him calling the cops on them for reasons like ordering a pizza, they had had enough. So, they were able to move out. But they weren't going to let him get away without facing the consequences of his actions. People always say that you shouldn't leave your current job without having something else already lined up. Well, anyone who has ever tried to look for a job while still working in the job they intend to leave knows that this is much easier said than done. Job search takes a lot of time, energy, and resources, so much so that most people would say that it is a full-time job on its own.

So how are you supposed to do both at the same time?

If you're a human then you understand pain and also pleasure. The pain of waking up in the morning, or going to work, of the monotony of life. They do have a sense of justice for your life, because their life is dependent on it too. They make everything feel a little softer, more innocent, and like everything in life is worth it. 

Can you imagine being told that the vacation time you took, which you rightfully earned, was suddenly considered excessive?

It's safe to say that this is not how you treat a loyal employee who has been working with you for over half a decade. This man, who shared his story with the r/antiwork subreddit community online, found himself taken aback when, on the first day of the same annual leave he had been taking for five years, he was notified by a coworker from human resources that he needed to come into the office to discuss his "excessive leave."

For context, not only was this the same amount of time off he always took each year, but the argument from HR's perspective also incorporated the bereavement leave he took earlier this year when he was handling a personal family matter involving his grandmother. It was company policy that bereavement leave and paid time off were not one and the same, so we find it interesting that all of a sudden, when it suits upper management, they have deemed that they can, in fact, conflate the two. Not to mention, there seems to have been zero expression of empathy for what their employee has been going through with his family.

There are many sides to this story, and I believe both our parties are partially guilty for the overall mess, but it's nonetheless interesting to observe the phenomena. We all know a business owner who LITERALLY never worked for anybody and just inherited a large sum of money, which they invested in opening some random store, but not everybody knows somebody who upgraded their entire personality when they became an entrepreneur.

Isn't it always like that, the person who wants the cat the least ends up bonding with it the most?

It really is always like that. Take it from Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem where a void cat was wandering a neighborhood. A couple ends up adopting this void cat a week after their first encounter, despite the husband saying "no more cats." The Cat Distribution system said, "cute story." When the cat distribution system wants to give you a cat from the universe, there's little to nothing you can do about it, just like in this story. They tried and tried to catch this little void, but he just kept running away from them. Their neighbor ended up having better luck, but somehow this void still ended up with them. It was a shock for the wife when she thought her husband didn't want a cat, and then she walks into their home and sees him cuddling up with the little guy. His name is Onyx, and he's their new void kitten at 7 weeks old! 

Once you decide to give up your pet, any claim of ownership instantly evaporates.

We can't imagine how tough it must be to discover someone in your household is allergic to a beloved pet, and we don't even want to try to imagine what we would do in this scenario. There is simply no correct answer or right way to go about it.

If the only solution you can find is to rehome the pet, it might be a good idea to find a friend or family member who can take the beloved furriend in. That way, you will know that your companion is in good hands, and you will still have a chance to visit them whenever it is possible.

That is what the owners below did with their cats, after one of their kids developed a heavy allergy to them. They couldn't really rehome their own kid, so finding a new, loving family for the cats was the only possible solution. This led them to turn to close family members and ask them to take the cats in, and luckily, these family members happily stepped up and adopted the furry felines.

For 4 years, these cats lived happily with their new family, while their previous owners, along with their non-allergenic kids, came to visit from time to time and kept the relationship going. That worked out great, until the allergic kid went off to college, and the previous owners decided it was time for them to take the cats back. According to them, the cats were only temporarily placed with a new family, and they always planned to take them back once the allergy was no longer in the way. However, according to the not-so-new owners, they legally adopted the cats 4 years ago, and they have no plans of letting them go now.

Cat lovers know that saying goodbye to a neighborhood stray is often one of the hardest parts of caring for community cats. Not many people expect to run into a beloved stray years after they last saw them, especially after moving away.

Three years ago, this purrson met a scruffy old tomcat sleeping in a stairwell near their apartment. But, as you may know, being a plus-one when you barely know the people at the function can be incredibly awkward. As a teenager, who's in an awkward, shy phase of life, it can be downright hard to endure an entire party of meeting random aunts and uncles for the first time. 

However. This guest had such a poor interaction with the host that she literally left the party to go sit in her car!
