Never mess with the people who serve you food. They have much more power than we think, and it is in our best interest to be nice to them and keep it polite. A server on r/MaliciousCompliance told the story of a coworker who has the ability to give it back to unpleasant customers who don't know when to stop complaining. This server, called Gigi, is an excellent worker; customers even ask that she be the one serving them. Still, every once in a while, some people show up with a bad attitude and a lot of demands, and Gigi handles them with the skill of an experienced surgeon. A woman showed up with her family five minutes before closing time and started demanding to be seated in a specific place, to get extra bread, to get a refill on her drinks, to get them extra ranch, and so on. Gigi did exactly that. She overfilled the plates with a mountain of bread; she refilled the drinks so many times that the tables were overflowing with glasses, and you can imagine the rest. 

That's the way to beat the system! Gigi never gets written up or chastised by her managers because she's always polite, does her job, and gives the customers exactly what they ask for. 

Sometimes people don't realize that those whose job is to serve are also human beings who are entitled to be respected. They are not our personal assistants; they are providing a service. A service that is not a necessity, it's a luxury. Going outside to eat is something we do to treat ourselves, but it is not something that we need. They have to deal with our capriciousness enough as it is. They don't need us to be unpleasant and treat them wrong. 

Besides, they are handling our food. There's a long way to go from the kitchen to our tables, and we never know what could happen in the middle. Being nice and polite to the person who's bringing you your pizza is always the right move, not only because it's the most humane thing to do, but also because it's the safest option. Saying "no" to the wrong request can create the biggest workplace problems.

What started as a simple request for study help quickly crossed a line when one employee was asked to provide answers during a company-paid certification exam. The coworker, who had already failed part of the test once, became increasingly frustrated after being refused. Now the employee is left wondering whether standing by their principles will spark even more tension at work.

First of all, I'm glad with the decision the OP made not to help her coworker cheat on the exam. This really resonated with me because when I was in college, one of my classmates was just like that. On her defense, she did work a lot while studying and sometimes didn't have much time to study. I did help her with my notes and things like that, but I never gave her the answers. Was I wrong? I really don't think so.

When it comes to college or majors like the one in this story, we cannot cheat. We're talking about our future career and the knowledge we need to have to do it properly, and if we cheat in every exam, we'll most likely not learn anything and then won't be equipped to fulfill our duties correctly. And especially in this case, those two women are health workers, meaning they should be able to perform each procedure correctly.

Also, that manager seems to be wonderful for covering the expenses of the classes because he wants the technicians to be professionals. So, how could she let go of an opportunity like this?

Although I don't like the attitude of her coworker, I wouldn't go to the supervisor just yet. I'd wait to see how she did in the exam, because if she fails and wants to blame the OP, then I'd go and tell him everything that happened, no matter the future consequences. I'd protect myself and my future if I want to keep working there. 

Every cat owner knows that moment of panic… when you suddenly can't find your cat in all of its usual hiding spots. 

All cats have strange hiding spots. You, as a cat owner, learn that sooner or later. I learned that later. I didn't know just how agile my chonky cat is when it comes to hiding. A giant fly will be sitting right next to her, begging her to catch it, and she will not move. Too lazy. But climbing inside of an open cabinet above the sink because there is a slight chance of finding a piece of bread in that cabinet, then staying there because it's comfy or something, and giving her momma a heart attack… well, that's easy for her. If that hasn't happened to you yet, it will. We promise. One day, everything will be completely normal, and then, you will find your cat behind the fridge or something. 

Sometimes, these hiding places really are impressive. Other times, our cats are hiding right under our noses. That was the case with today's panicked cat owner. One moment, everything was fine. The next moment, they couldn't find their cat. The cat, of course, didn't bother helping them. The cat let them go on panicking, sitting quietly in their hiding spot, enjoying life as usual. Meanwhile, the owner was outside looking for them and unknowingly changing their whole life. Because they did find a cat outside - a cat they thought was their cat - except it wasn't. The kitten they found was completely different, but that kitten liked the thought of being spoiled rotten for the rest of its life in a warm home, and now that the opportunity presented itself, they were not going to give up on it. And so instead of finding their own cat, this person ended up bringing a second one home. 

If you have doubts about something, you can simply ask…

Fancy restaurants have their own understanding of etiquette. You don't go in with certain clothes, you don't scream when talking, you arrive at the correct time of your reservation, and servers don't disclose the price of specials unless asked. That last one may seem odd, but it's actually quite understandable. If you are going out to eat at a place you know is expensive, you aren't really worrying about how much each plate is. You decided to go there knowing it was going to be more pricey than other places. Also, disclosing prices somewhere that fancy seems a little out of vibe, almost as if it was disrespectful.

Whether you agree or not with the 'rules of etiquette' these kinds of restaurants have, they are going to continue having them. It's up to you to go or not. In the story below, a customer knowingly went to a place that he knew cost more than others. He saw the prices of the other entrees, and when asked if he wanted the special one, he did not ask for the price. He ordered it. But when a $65 charge appeared on his bill, he seemed really concerned, weird, taking into account that he did not ask beforehand.

I believe that even though it may have stunned the customer to see the price of his food, he had no problem paying for it. He proved that by leaving a 15% tip. But I do think he was trying to either get it comped or to receive some kind of discount for the 'misunderstanding'. But it wasn't an error on the restaurant's or server's part. It was fully his fault for not asking for the price before ordering it. He got exactly what he deserved. A full bill to pay without any changes. You can be in favor of or against the policy of this place, but it's up to you to either avoid it or simply ask your questions instead of waiting for someone to disclose information they didn't know you needed. 
 

Where should you draw the line between helping family and protecting your future?

One woman is growing increasingly frustrated after her sister-in-law insisted that she and her husband take out a $300,000 HELOC in his name to finance her unemployed husband's business. Despite repeated refusals, the family continues to pressure them with guilt and emotional appeals, leaving the couple worried that saying yes could put their own financial future at serious risk.

This is a very sensitive story, since it combines family matters with money. And nobody in their right minds believes that both things can go together and have a good ending. In this case, the OP is the brother's wife, who is very concerned with this entitled attitude, and demands that his brother help her as soon as possible since he seems to be more careful about money than her own husband.

And of course, this man is now in a very uncomfortable situation: while I'm sure he's not willing to take that big loan and hand it over to his careless sister, I do believe he must be feeling bad for not helping and having her roast him. Also, on top of that, his own wife has her own opinions and doesn't want to do anything for these people, and pretends her husband is going to be doing the same thing.

When we all come to adulthood, we should have to face the responsibility of our own money. Meaning that is the sister needs the loan and can't ask for one herself, then this is an issue that she needs to sort instead of asking someone else for the money. And if it's to fund a business that seems sketchy and not that fruitful, then it's totally okay for her own family to refuse. 

How do we handle a family member, or anyone we find difficult to live with?

It's never easy, but it starts with explicit expectations, accountability, and clear communication.

Still, if the other person isn't doing their part to make things work, it just makes things that much harder. As was the case in this viral story. 

In this story, this 45-year-old woman shared how, for 11 years, her mother has lived with them after financial instability, ensuing from poor choices, left her needing somewhere to live. The family bought a larger house to accommodate her, agreeing that the mother would contribute $500 each month towards costs.

Payments gradually became inconsistent. The mother accumulated more debt. This, despite the fact that the family was paying for many of her ongoing expenses, including groceries, phone service, streaming, and household items. The situation has now become even more frustrating because her mother rarely helps around the house and tells friends and relatives that her daughter charges her rent, which is only a half-truth.

Growing up means realizing that it is much more fun to spend the evening scrolling through cute cat pictures with a fluffy feline cuddled up in your lap than going clubbing ever was. 

Things change when you get older. You realize that some things are more important than others. There used to be a time when meeting up with your friends to party till the little hours of the night was the norm. Skipping a night of sleep was okay every once in a while if it meant creating memories and laughing till your face hurts. But somewhere along the way, something changes, and you realize that spending time at home, cuddled up with your cat, taking care of your mental health, and spending time with the people that you love are the things that actually matter. 

And maybe you mourn that change. Maybe you think that you should be more energetic, like you used to be. We're here to tell you that's not true. It's so important to take care of yourself and to find joy in the little things. Take those extra five minutes in the morning to scroll through some cute cat pictures. Fill your phone will silly pictures of your cat and then send them out to everyone that you know. Are entitled customers ever happy? Sometimes it seems as if they just want to be told that they are right, that a policy can be broken for them, or that the employee made a mistake. As if, with their arguments, they weren't looking for compensation, just for the pure happiness 'being right' gives them. I used to think that guests who did a huge scene over nothing were probably just letting out weeks of anger they had accumulated. They aren't mad directly at the employee. They are just using that person as a way to get out everything that they have been gatekeeping. That seems to be the case in the story below.

This hotel guest had already been blessed with some coupons for free breakfast. Unfortunately, they weren't working in the kitchen. Now, a normal and calm person would have gone to the front desk and kindly asked if there was something wrong with them and if there was something they could do about it. The employee would have told her that they were valid and, just in case, give her some new ones, as she did in the story. Instead, what happened was that this woman got riled up over nothing and started to demand things she already had.

She could have just said 'thank you' to the front desk employee and gone back to the restaurant for her free breakfast. But no, she was too busy screaming and making a huge scene to notice that what she was complaining about was something she already had. There was no need for all that. She had gotten what she wanted. Or maybe what she really wanted was to externalize all her feelings onto a poor employee who had nothing to do with that.

So poor employee. This person tried to do something nice and be helpful, and she was 'thanked' with an argument that made no sense. I'm sure this isn't as uncommon as it seems. But it shouldn't be. There is no reason whatsoever to make a mess over something just because you have other problems in your life. This employee did nothing wrong and did not deserve this treatment at all. 
 

Do you take the bus, train, or car? Do you sit in endless traffic, or have a speedy route right around the corner? Commutes are notoriously long, but hopefully these comforting cat memes can offer some calm to the morning chaos.

Apartment living isn't easy, and complaining about noise is no new thing. Some noise from your neighbors is almost a given, but when does it become a problem? When is too much noise, well, too much?

This little kitty is living a life of royalty. 

Not everyone lives next to a castle. In Europe and Great Britain, it's a dime a dozen to have historical buildings, beautiful architecture, or ancient castles just existing around you. The world can be such a unique and unusual place. For the family in this story, they do in fact live near a castle, Drimnagh castle to be exact, in Drimnagh, Ireland. They were at the castle and next to it is a duck pond. They were going about their merry way when they see this little one-brain-cell kitten trying to catch ducks double his size from the duck pond beside the old castle and visitor center. He just just a tiny and lost thing. They saved him from falling in, took him home where he started to play, eat, and sleep. They took him to the vet and there was no chip. They decided to call the castle the next morning and were told the castle themselves have been trying to adopt him! 

The castle workers came and got him along with some toys he played with all night and some treats. It was an adorable reunion between king kitten and his castle. Though he's not orange, he still is a one brain cell kitty. This is the kind of story that appears so unexpectedly that it's too adorable not to read. 

There's an old saying that goes "measure twice, cut once," which is a lovely piece of wisdom that assumes the person holding the saw has any intention of measuring even one time. In reality, most DIY projects follow a slightly different formula: eyeball it once, panic halfway through, improvise with whatever's within arm's reach, and then post the result online with a caption that somehow makes it sound intentional. This is that post.

Can you be forced into a promotion you never wanted?

One engineer thought she had been clear for years about wanting to stay on the technical career path, not move into management. Despite that, her boss promoted her into a supervisory role without asking, later admitting it was done to strengthen his own position. Now she's searching for a way to return to engineering without risking her future.

This got me on edge… There's something odd about people who don't feel like building a career is what they want in life. In this case, this woman was very happy with the position she was in, and explicitly said she was not looking for a promotion, nor a change in her current role. Apparently, this was not enough for her boss; he went out of his way and got her that promotion he felt she deserved.

But we are not talking about whether she deserved it or not… she just did not want to change her current job. And it should have been enough for her boss to let her live in peace. There's something so sad that people cannot believe someone would prefer a quieter life, rather than one where growing in your field should be your main goal.

I hope she can sit with this man and explain that although she has done it in the past, she's not willing to accept this new position and that she would prefer to stay where she's at. And the worst part of it all is that the boss thinks he's doing her a favour and helping her in something she clearly is not interested in. He even joked around and said he was aware he was ruining her day… I just cannot believe that attitude, and it really upsets me.

With time and age the concept of fun and free play with no judgement starts slipping away. And the world around us does not help either, trying to split us into sects of gamers, movie bingers and scrollers. So we wanted to remind you of the good, silly kind of fun we used to enjoy back in the day with these cheeky cat memes.

After all, there is no creature on this planet that is more intune with their wants and needs than our cute cat children, and when they want to do something they go after it regardless of the consequences. This allows them to live their sweet fluffy life to the fullest, leaving no stone unturned and no want unfulfilled. Pick-me outbreak

The pick-me behaviour is rather paradoxical; through frantic efforts, the people engaging in pick-meism achieve rejection rather than selection, but there's no use in explaining that to them. If they truly could incorporate it, they wouldn't be reverting to the behaviour in the first place. Pickmeism is a really difficult conduct to weed out; it seems to be deeply ingrained in some people's functioning. To me, there is no use in trying; you either can coexist with the behaviour or you can't. There is no use in trying to talk it out of your pick-me friend; it's an especially persistent trait. This woman apparently got tired of fighting her friend's pick-me dynamics, and she confessed everything to her. Was this the right path to take?

It's not the first time a bride believes she is the center of the universe just because she is getting married. Having a wedding doesn't mean your friends will accommodate your wishes no matter the cost, and that doesn't make your friends any less "true friends".

Try to picture yourself: a friend invites you to her 3-day wedding, you RSVP yes, and a few days before the wedding, she changes the dates. You can't make it to the new wedding dates because you already paid for a trip to San Diego for your birthday, your favorite place to visit. And what's more, your friend suddenly uninvites your baby, so you also need to pay for childcare if you were to attend. Cancelling your birthday trip and paying for childcare to accommodate your friend's last-minute change of plans for her wedding is not that easy. No real friend would expect that from you, actually. 

In this story, the bride expected her friends to do such a thing. The bride had sent invitations three months earlier, giving the couple enough time to organize their schedule. The original plan allowed them to bring their baby, and the celebration ended immediately before the wife's birthday. Therefore, the friend's husband booked a four-day San Diego trip afterward to celebrate the friend's birthday. Everything had been arranged around the dates provided by the bride. It's not their fault that she changed the plans with such short notice. Maybe it wasn't the bride's fault either, but she should consider that guests are allowed to say they can't make it to the new dates. 

Naturally, the couple declined the new invitation, but the bride showed anything but understanding or consideration. Instead of acknowledging the impossible position she had created, the bride questioned the friendship. She argued that a genuine best friend should adjust the vacation and personally pay for childcare. Friendship isn't measured by how much money someone is willing to lose or whether your friend is willing to sacrifice her birthday plans and accept that her baby is not invited to your wedding. In fact, it's pretty selfish to expect something like that from a friend. 

Nothing ruins a serious cat face faster than one tiny blep.

One tiny pink tongue is all it takes to make an ordinary cat photo unforgettable. Bleps have become one of those little internet moments that never seem to lose their charm. No matter how many you've seen, spotting one still earns an immediate smile. It's almost impossible to resist zooming in for a closer look or sending the picture to a fellow cat lover.

The best bleps always happen when cats least expect them. Maybe they just finished grooming and forgot to pull their tongue back in. Maybe they woke up from an especially good nap looking a little confused. This is a skill we all need to acquire. Haven't we all had a coworker who gossiped a little too much? Or who got us into trouble? I've had coworkers I trusted deeply who turned out to be really disloyal, and work is a place where you spend a lot of your time, so it shouldn't be a place full of conflict. Personally, I don't think I've developed this skill to its full extent, but I think these workers who share their tips have. I was kinda confused because all of them are related to gossiping to some degree, and I think this is because engaging in gossip might be an attitude that shows we are not prone to being upfront about our thoughts and feedback and that we have some negative social characteristics. Of course, gossiping to some degree is normal, but a really 'gossipy' person can turn an entire group upside down. It's always better to be upfront. So, whether you're looking to acquire a few skills that help you learn who to trust in the office, or you want to chime in and share your own, this is the right place for you. My personal favourite was the only one that's not related to gossip at all, but to respect across hierarchy; I think that one is deeply linked to a person's integrity, and it's a very important characteristic to look out for inside or outside the workplace.

The summer is no time for cat lovers. Our homes are full of rugs, cat trees, pillows, throws and cushions that our cats love to lie on. Nothing in our lives is suited to warm weather and certainly not the thick layer of fur that adds warmth to our clothing.
