Cats often get a reputation for looking serious or unimpressed by whatever their humans are doing. Every so often, though, a perfectly timed photo captures a completely different side of them. These cats look like they're smiling as if they've just heard the sweetest compliment ever made. With their little grins and genuinely happy expressions, they look completely at home in front of the camera. 

Getting a great photo of a cat is an achievement. Most cats have no interest in facing the camera, sitting in good lighting, or staying still for more than a few seconds. The second you reach for your phone, they're suddenly distracted by something on the other side of the room. Or sleeping. That's when you can capture them unmoved. The movies and TV shows we used to watch as kids don't feel the same now. We start questioning them and ourselves for liking them before. But we also rediscover that magical feeling they had on us. 

With the Harry Potter series coming out this year, I have a sense that the franchise has been making it to the news a lot more lately. It seems as if every day we are celebrating the release date of the books or the movies. As someone who has just recently given the movies a chance, I have to say, they are better than I would have expected. I can't imagine how much someone how watch it when they were kids would have thought of them. In the story, we have 11-year-old Harry getting a letter explaining that he has been invited to study at Hogwarts, a school for magic that only some kids have the pleasure of attending. Once he moves to the school, we start to meet his friends and enemies and follow him through his life in his formative years.

When I watched the first movie, I thought it was a little cheesy. After all, it was for children. But when I got to the third one, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, I finally understood what all the fuss was about. I believe that if you didn't get to reading the books or watching the movies as a kid, you probably aren't expecting that this suppose kid's story has the violent dynamic they actually have. We have discrimination, misconduct of power, mortality, and the pursuit of immortality. Which makes all this film far more interesting than I would have ever imagined. The fact that magic wands could create so much damage to people is a great topic of discussion, and I like how it was portrayed.

But it also has another side, the one you expect. Especially during the first film, you get to see a friendship being built, Christmas, love. And these tropes are, in fact, clichés, but it works. Is a nice story for kids to get into reading and is a nostalgic film for a lot of adults out there. It has a place in a lot of people's hearts, and it shows the power of friendship. So, for all the adults who are watching the movies again or rereading the books, maybe you will like the following thread where fans discuss what things they used to think were really cool about Harry Potter's fantasy world but are actually quite weird now. 

Is being nervous a good excuse for treating people badly?

Anyone can have a tough day, or many. Sometimes we do, and we end up saying things we regret to the people we love just because we're feeling on edge. We can behave erratically and mistreast the people around us, leaving them feeling confused and hurt. We try that it doesnt turn into a recurrent type of behavior, since we want to keep our relationships intact, but form time to time it happens. When it does we make a conscious effort to apologize and reassure the person we hurt, and we make the promise of never doing it again. 

We can't always keep that promise, but we certainly do our best to treat our friends and family with kindness. Which is why it's so shocking when other people don't seem to act in the same way or don't give enough importance to their loved ones feelings. 

A niece shared her experience on AITAH with an aunt and her husband who didn't care much about her feelings. She arrived at a family gathering one day, and tripped and fell on the entrance of the house, so she went inside to get cleaned up before saying hi to the family. Whe she went out, the aunt's husband, John, chastised her about her manners an how no matter what had happened at the entrance, she was supposes to say hello to the whole family before anything else. From then on, he started giving her the cold shoulder, and her aut pretty much did the same. They even accused her of playing the victim the one time she brough it up. This went on for months until one day, the aunt started treating her as she had done before, inviting her everywhere and pretending that no one had done or said anything hurtful. Her mother suggested she played along because her aunt was going through a rough moment, but she's not sure she wants to pretend they didn't hurt her.

Sometimes the softest moments come from the pets you never expected to love.

I have to admit something that usually surprises people: I've always considered myself a dog person. If you asked me a year ago whether I preferred dogs or cats, I wouldn't have even hesitated before answering. Dogs always felt familiar to me. They're enthusiastic, affectionate, and somehow manage to convince you that you're the most important person in the world every time you walk through the front door. Cats, on the other hand... I never really understood them.

Then my neighbor asked me for a favor that completely changed my opinion. She was going away for a few days and needed someone to look after her cat while she was gone. I almost said no because I genuinely thought I wouldn't know what to do. Feed the cat? Sure. Clean the litter box? Fine. But spending time with a cat? That felt completely outside my comfort zone.

The funny part is that the cat didn't seem interested in becoming friends with me either. On the first day, she barely acknowledged my existence. I figured we'd simply coexist for the week. Then, little by little, she started following me around the apartment. She'd quietly sit next to me while I read, curl up at my feet while I worked, and occasionally decide that my lap was the perfect place for an afternoon nap. Nothing about it was dramatic, and maybe that's exactly why it worked.

By the time my neighbor came back, I realized I had spent the entire week looking forward to those quiet little moments. One heartbreaking meow after a grocery run turned into something neither of them saw coming.

The future cat mom first met A'miga after getting home from the grocery store. Before she even saw the little cat, she heard the heartbreaking cries. A'miga walked right up to her, painfully skinny and clearly hungry. With only dog food in the house, the animal lover gave the stray what she could before heading back out to buy cat food.

That was the beginning of a routine.

Every morning and every evening, A'miga would show up around the same time for a meal. The pair got used to seeing each other every day until, one day, A'miga disappeared. For two weeks, there was no sign of her. When the stray finally came back, her future owner was relieved, but another challenge was waiting. She was about to leave town herself.

Before leaving, the rescuer made herself a promise. If A'miga was still there when she got back, she was bringing her inside.

The difference between then and now is hard to miss. The skinny stray with patches of missing fur now has a room of her own, toys to play with, a favorite windowsill, and regular meals she never has to worry about. After more than 20 years without a cat, the first-time cat mom all over again has been learning everything from scratch, asking plenty of questions, and making sure A'miga has everything she needs.

Sometimes forever homes don't begin with adoption papers or shelter visits. Sometimes they start with one meal, turn into a daily routine, and slowly grow into something neither the cat nor the rescuer saw coming.

Some people's dream of having an adventuring feline buddy is a reality.

Let's admit it, cat people, we're a little bit jealous of dog people for one thing - if you adopt a dog, you get to take your dog quite literally everywhere. Even most restaurants allow a well-behaved dog inside. There are dog beaches, dog parks, and even ice cream shops that sell a doggo-specialty ice cream. But for cats? None of that exists. But the thing is - it's not that cats can't. Most of them just don't want to do all that (maybe besides the ice cream - we've yet to see a cat who refuses any snack). Take hiking-cat Yeti, for example - camping for days and hiking long distances with his humans. His mama posted some of the most gorgeous hiking cat pictures we've seen recently. But she didn't do just that - she detailed the entire process, and answered every cat person's question in the comment section. We've learned so many new things ourselves! And we kind of think of ourselves as cat experts here, so that should tell you something about the quality of information she has.

But that's the meowgical power of the online cat community - every cat person is eager to help other cat parents. When a cat person needs help, another one with more experience or knowledge will always be there, at the ready, to give advice and a paw to lean on. We think we all do it not just because we appreciate other cat people (and we do, a lot), but because we know it's indirectly helping their cats. And helping cats is always a noble task. Even if it means helping them spend time with their humans in nature with useful tips.

Cats are weird, we all know that. But do you really know how weird your cat can be?

The first instance I knew my cat was absolutely bonkers was when I first found him asleep with his face buried in one of my shoes. He was my first cat and I had never seen anything like it before. Over our many years together, his shoe obsession evolved from the occasional nap in my sneakers to trying to fit himself into my boots as soon as I took them off. And if you thought that was his weirdest habit, you would be purrfectly mistaken.

One of the reasons why we love cats so much is because of how quirky they are. Each cat has their own furry feline purrsonality, and just like a snowflake, each one is unique and beautiful. One cat might have a love-obsession with your socks, while the other will only eat their food after you've given them a kiss on the head, and others have to be locked in a separate room if you are eating anything that even remotely smells like chicken.

So now we've established that your cat isn't the only one that is a cute little weirdo. But is your cat the king of the weirdos? The queen of quirks? The art of pettiness

I'm going to throw my most superstitious take out there: Life always presents you with an opportunity to perform some degree of petty revenge on someone who wronged you in the past. It works like this: you have a fall out with somebody; at first you're very angry, and as time goes by, you begin to let it go and focus on yourself until one day, out of the blue, life puts you in a position to interfere with that person's life without you actually searching for it.

If you decide to take the petty route and cause an inconvenience in that person's life, as long as said inconvenience is relatively minor, I think it's fair. As I always say: revenge is a dish best served petty; or whatever. The only one who will enjoy this will be you; the other person will never know about it and will think of it as bad luck, and the balance of justice will return to equilibrium.

I'm definitely a petty revenge advocate; I can't see anything wrong with it, and I especially love it when it's anonymous. The only one who needs to know who did the harm is yourself; it's done for your own pleasure. To try to claim your authorship is callous.

Every little kid had that Disney phase where they imagined themselves running off to the woods and living with the wild animals. We would befriend the birds, the chipmunks, and the deer, and live happily ever after with them, without our annoying parents or loud little siblings.

While we don't know anyone who has actually lived up to this fantasy, some people do manage to bring that magical lifestyle into their lives. Even if they can't whistle at their bedroom window until birds come flying in, that doesn't mean they can't be kind to animals and take care of them as much as possible. That Disney life can still happen, within reason…

If you want a taste of this life, a good start would be to install a bird feeder in your backyard. You can feed the birds and befriend them without crossing any boundaries, and you can even get a magical moment out of it if you really try. Just be careful that you don't take it too far, because feeding wildlife in your yard can lead to some trouble, as it did for the family below.

To be fair, these homeowners were warned that they were taking the wild lifestyle a step too far. Their insistence on feeding birds, red squirrels, and chimpunks on their patio led these wonderful yet very wild animals to create huge holes in the foundation of the house. Yet, the homeowners didn't really care and refused to do anything about the damage to their house; all they wanted to do was keep feeding the animals.

It was only when their front porch completely collapsed in on itself that they realized the huge mistake they made. But since they ignored all the warning signs, including the ones from their own kid, they had no one to turn to. Did that stop them from demanding help anyway? You can guess where this is going, or you can keep reading to find out for sure.

Who needs hooman friends when you have 48 hours free to spend with your favorite felines?

Weekends aren't what they used to be. And it's not because so much has changed in terms of the weekends themselves, but because our lives are different. No one told us that getting older involves so many responsibilities! Grocery shopping, cooking, going to the gym, taking care of the kids, cleaning, speaking with your family, and occasionally, work, leave our weekends merely a morsel of what they were in our 20s. Back then, we would spend most of our time goofing off and hanging out with friends without a care in the world. Now, they feel more like purrsonal time to cross off things on our to-do list than free time at all.

But this is the exact reason why it's impawtant to take some time for yourself to recharge your soul with things that invigorate you. Things that make your heart feel and warm and fuzzy, that make you smile, and remind you that pawsitivity is more powerful than negativity. And for us, that's spending time with our cats. As soon as we plop down on the couch, they will run up to us and snuggle safely in our laps. Whether it's for 5 minutes or 5 hours, they're purrfectly content just to love us and enjoy our presence. 

Take some time for yourself this weekend to spend some uninterrupted time with your cats. You spend all week at work without them, and on the weekends, your either running errands or moving around. Your cats would appreciate some time with you, and whether it's playing with their favorite feather toy or simply cuddling on the couch while scrolling through some heartwarming friday felines, you'll both be happier that you did it. 

What a weird way to express anger at somebody…

I guess you can't know what to expect; enemies can be hiding at your own wedding and get in with your invitation. This bride was definitely keeping her enemies close; she just didn't know about it. What makes this revenge ridiculous is that by destroying a gift the other person hasn't even opened yet, you are not actually causing harm; in the end, it's just like never receiving the gift in the first place, so it doesn't really make sense. 

What I do think is that the angry person might have tried to deliver some 'encrypted' message through the broken gift, but honestly, it would've been simpler not to attend the wedding. Some people need to gift their anger to you and enjoy a free meal and a party while they're at it. Also, maybe it was witchcraft? Lol. 

At this point, videos are making us know things we should've never been aware of. I know some people can argue that this is something worth knowing about, but what can this bride really do? If she had never known, she would only have good memories of her wedding and a couple of broken plates; ignorance is bliss. Some things need to be kept quiet, and one of those things is gossip. 

Where are we going to be able to gossip from now on? Will 'camera-free' spaces become an urban phenomenon? Doesn't that defy the principles of gossiping? Shouldn't gossip be a transgression? If we make gossip legal and contained in a determined space, wouldn't it become too constricted? Everybody would know we're going there to gossip; new forms of surveillance would arise to chase us, gossipers. 

I trust in the gossipers of the world that new and creative ways of speaking ill about somebody else will emerge, even in the weirdest of contexts…

If there is even a little bit of hope, you should not give up on your cat. 

Getting bad news at the vet's is every pet owner's worst nightmare. You take them there exactly for this, of course. If there are bad news to get, it's best to get it as soon as possible, when there is still something to do about it, ways to help, to get them better, to get them to live longer and as happy as they can be. But that doesn't make it any easier. You hope that when something happens, when you see a reason to take your cat to the vet, that it will be nothing, that the vet will tell you that your cat just got spooked by something and that's it. But at some point, as our cats grow older, most of us will likely have to face some kind of negative news about them. 

When the people in today's story were told that their cat had at most two years left, they went home heartbroken. As any cat owner would. But they didn't lose hope. And they certainly didn't give up. They did everything that their vets told them to do, and it seems that their cat wanted to live just as much as they wanted her to live. Because everything that they did paid off. Nine years after her diagnosis, she is still here, she is still fighting, she is still happily living her life, causing chaos and committing crimes just like any other cat. Of course, she's older now, so she's a little slower than she used to be, but that's not because of her diagnosis. That didn't stop her from living her best life at any point, not with amazing owners like hers who never gave up on her and did everything that they could to make her happy. 

Entitlement's new frontiers

Let's face it, some people are looking to take advantage of others to get their needs met without reciprocating.

The dynamic appears perfect to them as long as nobody dares to point it out or ask for something in return. If that happens, they'll use any strategy to return to the statu quo.

This friend's strategy was playing the victim; she's trying to make it seem like he is the ungrateful one. To me, he's just asking for reciprocity. Most of their relationship's story is about him accommodating her wants and needs; this dynamic would be toxic even if theirs was a romantic relationship.

He is allowed to want his needs met as well. The thing is, he is not even asking for that; he knows she doesn't want to do that for him, so he is politely stating he no longer wants to be her emotional-support teddy bear. Everything that happened after he said that is nonsensical to me. But I guess hearing that she'll not get unconditional love and care from her male best friend without giving anything in return is a tough blow for her; it'll probably take her some time to process it.

The sign should have said "Beware of Gerald". It would have been meowsterious and highly effective. 

Listen, "Beware of Dog" signs are common. You can get them basically everywhere. "Beware of Cat" signs… those are rare. At best, you would have to go online to order one. At worst, you'll have to get one made especially for you. And it usually means paying a lot more for the sign and waiting a lot longer for the sign to come than just- going and buying the dog version of the sign. We imagine that's what the cat owner in today's story was thinking. 

He needed the sign. Some cats are so spicy that they really do require you to have it. Anyone who owns cats knows that they can be a whole lot to deal with sometimes. My cat likes me, and every once in a while, she still pounces. And strangers? Don't even get me started on that. Best case scenario is her running away and hiding under the bed. Worst case scenario… maybe I should get a sign like that too. So, it's not that the sign was a lie. It was not meant to be deceptive. It wasn't about a dog, sure, but it was a necessary warning. Because, as the man who tried to pet this forbidden cat found out, some cats need to be worked a little before they allow you to approach them. 

And Gerald… Well, clearly Gerald has standards for the humans that he allows around him. Should have known that from the sign alone. But even if you didn't, one look at Gerald through the window would have let you know that he is one cat that you should not be messing with. We think he's scarier than half the dogs that get signs like this, and he is about a third of their size. 

Maybe the "picky eater" thing is just an excuse to be entitled.

Being a picky eater doesn't mean that you are excused from being entitled. It means that you don't like many foods and have strong preferences when picking what to eat. It never ever means that you can cause a scene because a friend cooked something you don't like or because a restaurant doesn't sell chicken fingers. It just means YOU don't like certain foods, not that it is everyone else's responsibility to find you something you actually like. You are a person who knows how to communicate, so if you are picky with food, then so be it, but that is explicitly a you problem, not anyone else's. Not a server, not your family, not your friends. It's your responsibility to check beforehand whether the restaurant you are going to has any food options you like, or to kindly and nicely express that you don't like any of the options and ask if they can make you something else.

It has become common for some people to make their problems everyone else's problems, like in the story below. We get an entitled sister who, even though she is the one who doesn't like most foods, makes it everyone's problem. She makes a scene over her sister not choosing what she wants to eat so she can copy her, only to refuse to eat it because, of course, she doesn't like it. Why go through all that? Order what you actually want to eat instead of wanting to copy your sister just to hate the food later. CHOOSE, make a decision. It's really not that hard. It would avoid your family a bad time, and it will end up being something she would actually like to eat –I know, shocking!

But well, what can we expect from someone who can't even communicate what she wants to eat or even accept the fact that she can't copy her sister in everything because they don't like the same things? I have no respect for someone who voluntarily wastes food, so I will not defend this girl who is just throwing tantrums and wasting perfectly good food just because she wants to be a copycat. 
 

Does your cat spend all day sleeping a well?

Cats are some of the most sleepy creatures on earth, along with Koalas and ourselves, of course. They can fall asleep anywhere, and in the weirdest and most uncomfortable positions ever. We don't know why or how they're able to fall asleep like that, but they do.

Some people say that is actually not good for their health to wake them up when they fall asleep, beacuse it causes them to be stressed out. It's never our intention to cause them distress, we love them, but some times it's impossible not to! We need to do stuff around the house: clean up, wash the dishes, do the laundry… all those things make quite a bit of noise and are an obstacle for our babies to get some real rest. That's where the side-eyes start. We keep on living like we're used to, waking them up in the process, but instead of leaving somewhere else to sleep, somewhere quiet, they just stay there and look at us with the most intense disgust that they can master. Some humans never get to express that level of disdain in their eyes, but our cats do it naturally. 

Our sleeping beauties are perfectly aware of the fact that we live and breathe for them, and they take advantage of that. They will climb to our dinner tables, because they know we wouldn't dare tell them off. They jump into our beds and walk over our pillows. They get into our closets and sleep on our clothes, leaving all their cat fur over our black coats and sweaters. Yes, they go to sleep in the most inconvenient places. 

They look absolutely gorgeous when they turn into a little furball and sleep in the middle of our couch. Another place where they leave all their tiny strands of hair behind. We never complain; we never tell them to get off the furniture. Even more so, we cuddle with them if they let us. The best naps we take are with our furry babies. They are so warm and fluffy that they feel like the perfect pillow.

Managers worry about all the wrong things. 

Some managers insist on managing through control and proximity, direct observations of employees' time spent working, sitting at a desk, making sure that they're at they're sitting at their computer ready to respond to a message at any time of the day.

But when your management strategy boils down to "watch for yellow light," I think you probably need to rethink your strategy.

The problem with managing in this way is that you're just always behind the wheel. And you're training your team to be behind the wheel too. You're always looking for actions and never at results, and it is this micromanaging that grinds a team down.

This manager insisted that an IT worker always show as available. It pushed him into not working harder, but writing a script that showed he was active at all times.

Would you rip off your own family if it meant getting a benefit for yourself? Seems like some people would…

Some people say that you don't really know your family until it's time to split the inheritance. Well, in the case of this family, they got to know the aunt's true colors way before that. Her niece shared on r/AITAH the story that led her to cut the aunt out of her life. Her parents had built a house in the '90s along with her grandparents, a house that she would inherit when it was time. In the 2010' her grandfather was diagnosed with a condition that affected his memory, and the family made sure to take care of him. What they didn't know is that, while he was vulnerable, one of his daughters, Aunt D, took him to a lawyer to change his will and make herself the sole beneficiary. They found out about it years later by chance, and they had to sell the house so she wouldn't take it for herself, because the grandmother didn't want to "hurt her feelings." This led to the niece cutting her out of her life completely and not inviting her to her upcoming wedding. 

They say that family comes first, but what happens when that family becomes selfish and doesn't care about your well-being? Cutting them off is most likely the right and best thing to do. This aunt ripped off her own father and tried to steal her niece's inheritance, and her mother still forgave her and didn't want to hurt her feelings. What she doesn't understand is that her feelings stopped being important the minute she went after her father's will. A mother is a mother, and they can find the power within them to forgive almost anything, but that doesn't mean the rest of the family should do the same. 

The niece lost the house she was planning to raise her kids in, and she is totally justified in cutting contact with the person whose fault that is. Not inviting her to her wedding is the bare minimum type of revenge.
