'The guy wanted that go-kart': Go-kart employee stunned by oblivious customer's odd request

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 14:00

Never underestimate a customer's ability to be ridiculous. They'll always surprise you with new ways to misunderstand simple things. U/N1k1B1k1e understands that all too well after a Saturday night run-in with a baffling customer

The person sharing this story writes that they worked at an underground go-kart arena. Some people in the comments section seemed confused by this phrasing. But it's exactly what it sounds like: you head to an underground race track where go-karts zip around at top speed. If you've ever been to a regular go-kart track, you know how loud it can, so putting all those loud vehicles underground makes it 100 times more deafening. It's a wonder that the employees don't lose their hearing after working there for a while!

This employee writes that they were super busy one Saturday night when a dad and his kid came in to drive the go-karts. This dad just couldn't understand why he couldn't drive the kart he wanted. He threw a fit over it like a toddler, so the employee finally gave in and gave this goofy dad exactly what he was demanding.

Check out this funny story of malicious compliance. Then, read about the network employee who got laid off… too bad his employer didn't get the company passwords from him first

It just goes to show, that more often than not, things are not as they seem, and it is up to us to roll with the punches, as and when they come. So, we hope you enjoy this cute and hissterical feline story.

Woman gets payback on gossiping Mother-in-law on family vacation after spreading rumors about her marriage: 'I cannot wait to get her back'

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 13:00

It's not easy dealing with a Monster-in-law. Just ask Jennifer Lopez!

Dealing with particular in-laws means always having to walk a fine line between pleasing them and standing up for yourself. This becomes all too real on family gatherings and vacations. Suddenly, you're forced to be with them all the time and to cater to their needs, wishes, and fluctuating moods. This Redditor has been preparing for an upcoming trip after learning that their mother-in-law was made aware of private information about their marriage. She's the gossiping type, so this was pretty much the last person you'd want to know your deep, dark secrets about your relationship troubles. The Redditor listed a series of plans for payback she has been planning to enact once they are reunited, so to speak.

Many folks in the comments section were quick to point out that the reason the mother-in-law became aware of this information was because of the Redditor's husband and his father. Commenters argued that they should be the ones who are on the receiving end of this payback. Keep scrolling below for the full story and feel free to share what you think the Redditor should do next. 'No one here has the password': Network employee gets laid off in downsizing move, company realizes he has all the master passwords

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 12:00

When this guy got called into the head boss's office, he had a feeling it wasn't a good sign.

Getting a message from HR or the higher-ups you never really speak to can send a shiver down an employee's spine. Having to have one of these important talks can mean getting put on a PIP plan if the boss is unhappy with their work. Sometimes, HR will have to call an important meeting if the employee has been bothering other employees. There are a lot of reasons these spontaneous meetings might happen, and not many of the reasons are positive. For this person, downsizing meant that he was suddenly out of his job as an employee at an internet/network company. It's unfair, but there's nothing a worker can do when the company chooses to force them out.

…Or is there something to be done after all? This guy didn't go out without a fight. Not only did he inconvenience his former boss and the company, but his boss seemed pretty humiliated by their final conversation. Check out u/FullBoat29's father's story of malicious compliance down below.

Next, this worker also got fired, and they managed to make their final day at work as annoying as humanly possible for their boss, including making him miss his own wedding dinner tasting

Gamer gets account hacked, gets petty payback on lame hacker: 'The kid was [...] begging me not to call his dad '

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 11:00

If there's one person you don't want to mess with, it's someone who is great at technology. Of course, most hackers do not know how competent their targets are, which is why this kid got his much-deserved comeuppance after his failed attempt at taking over this other guy's video game account.

This story is also a reminder to keep your technologically talented friends in your corner, as this guy did. He and his friend were big RuneScape people in the early 2000s, so much so that their successful accounts were worth more than $5K if they chose to sell them. That success is likely what attracted this naive teenager's attempt at hacking into the account. The gamer contacted his friend when he noticed something fishy, and it did not take long for his friend to figure out who the kid was and how to get the so-called "hacker" to leave his friend alone.

Keep scrolling below for the full story and for the best reactions from folks in the comments section. When you're done, check out this post about the top mildly infuriating moments of the week!

‘Let’s save our time and end this interview': Job candidate walks out of interview after being grilled by interviewer who undermined their experience for the job and demanded they up their game

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 10:00

Job interviews are such a grueling process, that it's hard not to get discouraged. Companies expect a lot from candidates nowadays and will put you through 8 interviews with different hiring managers and department heads, then give you multiple tests to evaluate your skills, and finally, reject you via an email or worse, fail to let you know about the next steps. In other words, it's exhausting, infuriating, and it doesn't give you much incentive to keep job searching, even though most of the time, you don't have a choice.

One candidate went through a horrible interview with a woman who thought the sun shined for her. She kept telling him that he needed to sell himself better, and undermined his abilities to do the job. The candidate was confused. If he was so underqualified, why did they even want him? Probably to lowball him if he gets an offer. Scroll down to read how the candidate cleverly responded to the interviewer, and then check out this college student who landed herself a curfew after acting like a total child.

'I can mimic that sound perfectly': 20+ Crafty workplace pranks that totally fooled coworkers

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 08:00

Boring workplace? Time to liven it up with a few pranks! That's what these people did, and they shared the resulting hilarity with r/AskReddit.

If you've ever gotten to prank your coworkers, you know how funny it can be. If you're on the receiving end of a stapler encased in jello, you might be a little miffed. But everyone around you will remember your surprised face, and they'll get a great laugh out of it too. It's an entertaining way to build camaraderie. And for a lot of the people below, it was also a way to subtly get back at their most annoying coworkers.

Having good coworkers and bosses is key in jobs. You spend a lot of time with them. While you might get to know them over time, you'll also come to discover all of their habits, good and bad. It's not so easy to just tell your coworkers to stop these annoying traits, though. You might have to prank them into stopping, as the people below did. Other people shared their harmless pranks like switching the m and n keys on people's keyboards. I wonder how long their coworkers managed to type like that before they noticed!

Check out this fun thread from r/agjimenez, who requested to hear about the pranks people love pulling at work. Next up, this couple got some satisfying revenge on their HOA, saying, "I was just doing what you told me to do."

Bookstore Cats With a Love of Literature and a Knack for Recommending Page Turners

LOL Cats - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 08:00

There is something so comforting about going into a local bookstore and picking out a new page-turner to take home. I could spend hours walking up and down the aisles and looking through all of the books. It's a cozy experience, it reminds me of childhood. I can not get enough of it. My local bookstore also has a coffee wagon outside to supply the customers with caffeine and delicious baked goods. It's an experience that I value and it can often be used to describe my weekend plans when asked. Anyway, what could make perusing a local bookstore a better experience? Cats.

Luckily, many bookstores flaunt their own local cats who call the bookstores home and provide ample advice to wandering customers in search of their next page-turner. Just take a look for yourself. We are happy to present a delightful chapter book full of cats waiting to assist you with your next book purchase. And don't forget to shop local!

Work demands employee pay for personal calls, employee demands payment for calls they take outside of working hours: 'I should be getting overtime each time I pick up the phone'

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 07:00

Mistakes and bad decisions happen, it's just a part of the decision making process. As Thomas Edison, the inventor of the lightbulb, famously said, "'I have not failed, but found 1000 ways to not make a light bulb." The quote and attribution varies, but it's usually something along those lines. And that remains true, you don't know and can't learn until you pick a direction and try, but where this becomes an issue is when people and organizations obstinately refuse to course correct, refusing to acknowledge scrutiny and criticism leveled against them and carrying down their erroneous path marching to their own folly.

Of course, there's another way this gets handled too where as soon as the authority realizes that they might have been wrong—still, rather than acknowledging that fact, they just sweep the policy or decision under the rug, never mentioning it again and pretending that it didn't exist in the first place. How an organization handles these situations is a good barometer for the culture they're purveying. And those embracing criticism, introspection, and accountability are more likely not to repeat the same mistakes and find positive growth.

While it seems a little brazen and messy to use your work phone for personal use, without a doubt this worker had a point. But when the bean counters were trying to wrangle extra beans (?) from their employees they forgot to consider the instances where the scales weren't balanced in their favor.

What's your experience? Have you or would you use a work phone for your private use?

‘Your company deserves to fail’: Overworked employee quits job without notice after years of carrying company on their back, boss claims he'll sue for losses

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 06:00

There is an extremely thin line between being a valued employee with a balanced workload and being an overworked employee who has way too much depended on them. Many employees, in an understandable attempt to be an asset to their company, cross that line and create an unhealthy relationship with their work when they suddenly realize they have taken on too much.

Much like the employee in this Reddit story, who had been stuck in a company for 3 years, overflowing with workload by their boss, and managing an extremely unhealthy relationship with said boss. Now, after every other employee at the company already fled, OP (original poster) finally got a better offer and decided to leave. But their boss is unhappy about that decision and is doing everything in his power to get OP to stay, even threatening to sue OP for company losses.

Person Finds Their Indoor Cat Suddenly Sitting Outside, Does Everything Possible To Get Him Back In, Only To Find Out That It Was Not Even His Cat To Begin With

LOL Cats - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 06:00

Cats and shenanigans are essentially synonyms, that is something that all cat owners learn sooner or later. Living with cats means living with a certain amount of chaos in our lives. Every once in a while, you will catch your cat doing something that will make you do a double take. You might catch your cat climbing onto the roof and getting stuck… for the hundredth time. Or you might catch your cat embarking on an epic romance with your neighbor's cat. Or you might teach your cat to ring the doorbell when it gets stuck outside and think that you're doing the right thing… until your neighbors start complaining about your cat doing it in their homes.

Shenanigans, cats, synonyms. And when you have more than one cat, you have even more shenanigans. But not in this case. Not in this thread. Here, the cats are innocent. Well… some of them are.

Nepo baby demands overview of coworker's project so he can take full credit for it: 'He had no part in creating this program'

Fail Blog - Tue, 05/07/2024 - 05:00

Ah, nepo babies! They never fail to lean into their entitlement when it suits them.

Here, we have a college-aged dude whose father essentially founded a company to give his son experience. This Redditor, one of the only full-time employees at said company, had been collaborating closely with their employer on an eLearning course, which was a time-consuming hands-on project for the both of them. However, when it came time for the boss's son to apply for summer jobs, he called the Original Poster and demanded an overview of the ins and outs of the project. The Original Poster later learned that the purpose of this call was for the nepo baby to take full credit for the project in his interview, which became the final straw for this employee. Of course, when the project itself was underway, the son shirked many of the few responsibilities he was given, so claiming any involvement in the project whatsoever was a stretch.

Our big question here is for the father who founded this company. Why does he think that allowing his son to take this credit will do him any good in the long run? Incompetence always reveals itself in some capacity, no matter who you are. Keep scrolling below for the full story and for the best reactions from folks in the comments section. For more stories like this, check out this post about a Karen whose entitlement caused her entire company to get hacked.
