'Purchaser had one job....JUST ONE!': Product purchaser gets reamed by the CEO after doubting a diligent employee, afterwards the little guy gets a promotion

Wed, 02/28/2024 - 10:00

Middlemen are a concept created by upper management to keep the underlings in line, but are they even necessary? When a company gets too big or when there are too many little employees to handle, CEOs and other suits like to keep their hands clean of too much extra work, thus, hiring a stable boy to watch the horses while they're away on their yacht. It would be baffling to imagine that any entry-level employee could supersede the genius of middle management, right?

Alas, CEOs will still look down on their herd through the glass floor, wondering if there are any rising stars amongst them–but in our next story, a heroic little guy in a production warehouse proves his worth by accidentally undermining the middle managers above him.

To prove his competency, this particular warehouse employee tried to show initiative in the warehouse, taking it upon himself to help out the product purchaser with inventory shortages. But because the prejudice of the management position blinded his manager, he didn't trust a mere underling. Eventually, that came back to bite him in this epic story of malicious compliance.

Scroll onward to read how this middle manager arbitrated himself and threatened his own position with the company by doubting a diligent employee.

'So... below minimum wage?': Ex-manager offers $50 to a former employee, begging them to come back for one shift

Wed, 02/28/2024 - 09:00

Managers will do just about anything to cover a wayward shift in the fast-food industry. With corporate goons breathing down their neck and a 70-hour week on their horizon, it's no wonder managers become desperately manic when an employee no-shows or calls out sick. They're at their brink. However, the manager in our next story proved to be more manic than desperate after begging an ex-employee to cover a shift after quitting, enticing them with a cash offer of $50–mere peanuts.

After two years of exploitation at his fast-food job, this particular employee had had enough, but only two weeks after they'd quit, they received a pathetic text from their ex-manager, begging them to come cover a shift that someone bailed on. For some, this kind of desperation would mean they could score a couple of bucks from the endeavor–you know, with supply and demand n' all–but the ex-manager had the audacity to offer cash compensation at an embarrassingly low amount.

Scroll for the entire story of how a guy fervently denied an under-the-table gig to help an ex-manager he despised, largely because $50 would hardly cover the gas to go clock in.

'No one stayed longer than a year': 25+ Jobs that were the worst of the worst according to employees

Wed, 02/28/2024 - 08:00

It seems like everyone has had at least one job that made them dread going into work every day. It's the kind of job that gives you a pit in your stomach as you set your alarm clock for the next day. As you drive to work, you're gritting your teeth thinking about what irritating thing your boss or coworkers are going to do that day.

Sometimes it takes a little while to realize you dislike your job. But once you realize, it gets harder and harder to be happy there. You might start daydreaming about other jobs with less responsibility and better pay. For a lot of folks, their coworkers and bosses make them feel drained, and dealing with that every day can become grating. The best time to start job hunting is the moment you realize you're dissatisfied…but a lot of people either need the money or have other reasons why they're forced to stay on.

U/phillybride asked the internet to share "What made your worst job ever your worst job ever?" and the answers were quite wide-ranging. From blue-collar workers to white-collar workers, it seems like everyone has that one crazy story about their worst times on the job. Check them all out below. And then, this person refused to write false reviews about their company, so they decided to leave and let the company crumble behind them.

'The police were also automatically called...': Landlord gets a surprise when they can't disable their tenant's alarm after turning up unannounced and uninvited

Wed, 02/28/2024 - 07:00

One of the core principles of renting a house is that it might be your landlord's house… but you're paying for it to be your home. This is something that gets missed, soaring right over their heads… and smacking into the poorly painted white wall behind them.

Of course, there are laws in many (many) places regarding the rights that your landlord has to enter their property, and the rights that you have to privacy. Many jurisdictions will require the landlord, or property manager, to give a certain amount of written notice to their tenants, rather than "Kramer-ing" their way into their tenants' homes any time they'd like uninvited. Landlords will usually turn to suspicion when their tenants object to a late notice, or no notice, entry. Deciding that it must be because their tenants are doing something wrong or up to some sort of illegal activity. Often the reason is simpler and that we just want to be left the heck alone.

Of course, if your landlord keeps turning up uninvited, you're entitled to legal action. You're also more than welcome to do something along the lines of what this frustrated tenant did.

'No refunds, no exceptions': Restaurant refuses to reimburse customer for food they never delivered

Wed, 02/28/2024 - 06:00

'I never got the food', said the customer, perplexed, and continued 'I'd like a refund'. Fair enough, right? Wrong.

The restaurant manager's response was astounding, as made it clear that it didn't matter… They were not going to reimburse the customer for the food, regardless of whether they received it or not. If that sounds crazy, that's because it is.

But wait, let's pause for a second and rewind. The customer in question took to r/pettyrevenge to share their order gone wrong story. Let's call them OP. So OP explained that they had ordered some food online and went to pick it up. When they arrived home, they realized ⅓ of their order was missing… They called up the restaurant who told them that they could come pick up the food they were missing, but OP told them that they'd rather just get a refund as the Super Bowl was about to begin and they didn't want to run out to get the order. One thing led to another, which you can read about below.

Then, check out this employee who had enough of their CEO's antics who couldn't decide whether the employee was 'remote or not'. Decide, dude… Or pay your dues.

Guy gets fired after six weeks, charges company hundreds to get their equipment back: 'It was very liberating for me'

Wed, 02/28/2024 - 05:00

This former employee refused to go quietly. Unfortunately, he was let go after just six weeks at the company due to sudden mid-quarter layoffs. That meant with such little time at the company, he would not be able to put this on his resume as such a brief stint there most certainly would raise eyebrows rather than help him find work elsewhere. This, along with poor management and a toxic work environment, led him to ensure that his final acts would be petty.

When he was asked to return his work-from-home equipment, he requested to ship them rather than show up anywhere in person. His boss agreed. However, what his boss did not yet realize was that this dude was going to make sure it was the most expensive delivery possible on the company's dime. That meant separate boxes for each item, pricey expedited shipping, etc. When the former employee, who shared his story via Reddit's r/pettyrevenge subreddit, explained what he was doing, the FedEx worker joined in on the fun.

Keep scrolling below for the full play-by-play and for the best reactions from folks in the comments section. For more stories like this, here is one about a new employee who gave a seasoned one a taste of her own medicine.

'I got a dress, white gloves, and a pearl necklace': Retail employee channels her inner ‘Audrey Hepburn’ after getting burned by management for underdressing at work

Wed, 02/28/2024 - 04:00

There's nothing worse than being an employee of a high-end retail store. If you've never experienced it, picture this: Every day you clock in, you are exposed to the scrutiny of every high-horse, ivory tower, wannabe with a superiority complex and despite your desire to dismiss their overinflated opinion with a waive, your commission depends on them. So without a veil of delusion, you're reminded daily that as a slave to the 40-hour workweek, you'll always be at the mercy of the 1%.

Sounds lovely doesn't it?

Well, in this sort of toxic environment, it's hard for employees not to fantasize about what sorts of anarchy they could get into if pushed far enough. The sales rep in our next story was able to act on her deepest desires, sticking it to the management, while also scoring a chubby paycheck from the customers. Scroll onward to read how one woman channeled her inner Audrey Hepburn as payback for an unjustified burn from her assistant manager.

‘[She was] trying to turn him against us’: Loyal roommate breaks up with Karen-ish girlfriend after she tries to get his roomies evicted, epic showdown ensues

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 21:00

There's no relationship more complicated than that of a person and their roommate's significant other. Like the parasitic third wheel in the house, even the nicest boyfriends and girlfriends can quickly become unlikeable, clogging up the fridge, leaving their belongings in communal spaces, and stealing the quality time you once had with your house-bestie. While it's rare that a roomie's significant other has no lasting impact on the group dynamic, most cases usually result in a hostile home dynamic that can only be solved with warfare. When it comes down to the sanctity of the home, roommates have no choice but to fight fire with fire

In our next story, the house dynamic was certainly rocked when Jay, a beloved member of the perfect 4 person household started dating a rogue Karen. Hellbent on turning him against everyone else in the house, this Karen would stop at nothing to create discourse–even when it came to stealing money from the communal grocery jar. Wanting to enjoy a story chock-full of debauchery and scheming? 'Give 0% tip, get 0% service': Casino server gets payback on a notorious no-tip customer, causes 'tipping culture' controversy in the comment section

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 20:00

It's no secret that tipping culture in America has gotten out of hand in the last few years. Every business with an iPad as their POS system will flip their little screen around to their customers they sheepishly say, 'It's just going to ask you a few questions'… Sorry, but it's hard to justify tipping 35% on a $7 coffee, but the social pressure of the barista with an imperious stare, a septum piercing, and electric pink hair is tough to ignore.

Baristas aren't known for their impressive paychecks after every pay period, but servers, on the other hand, have become notoriously well-off because of the increased pressure on tipping. As a symbol of toxic capitalism and gratuity drama, servers have become a target for arguments against tipping all altogether.

The server in our next story, a waiter in a casino, recently went viral for a controversial take on how poorly they treated a notorious no-tip customer. You can decide for yourself whether or not this server's malicious payback against a customer was justified or if it was ironically out-of-pocket.

'Is there a bright side to today's housing market?' Potential homebuyers, first-time homebuyers, and current homeowners discuss

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 18:00

Could've, should've, would've—you just have to live in the present when it comes to today's housing market.

'Is this a joke?': Neighbor demands to buy elderly woman's driveway for $1, she refuses and builds a fence between them instead

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 17:00

It has gotten to a point where it is extremely common to hear about neighborhood drama, and about entitled neighbors who think they own everything around them. Some stories are more dramatic than others, but everyone has probably dealt with a demanding neighbor at some point in their lives.

That being said, there is one line that a neighbor should never ever cross, and that is taking advantage of elderly people. Like the person in this Reddit post. This man asked his elderly neighbor if he could use part of her driveway so that his children would have space to park their cars. The neighbor agreed out of the kindness of her heart, and let them use her driveway for a few years. Then the man asked to buy that part of the driveway for the mere price of one single dollar and was shocked when the elderly woman refused. That led to a whole dispute between the two neighbors and ended with one of them selling their house and moving away.

‘You should have waited’: Server gracefully leaves customer's table a note explaining card was declined, returns only to face a service dispute

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 16:00

One customer was absolutely livid when his server did him a 'graceful favor' when his card was declined. The situation evoked quite a discussion on Reddit, where people either completely agreed with the original poster (OP), or totally disagreed and thought that they were in the wrong. So what happened? Well, a very rude customer showed up to eat at OP's workplace, and after serving them, OP came to give them the check. Unfortunately, their card was declined. OP didn't want to embarrass the customer, so they came back with a note that read 'Your card was declined', and then went off to other tables. When OP came back, the customer did not appreciate the note, not one bit. Instead, he began arguing with OP and told them, 'You just had to make me sit here waiting for you, right?'. Scroll down to read OP's sassy reply, the outcome, and the comments. All I can say is… yikes.

Then, here is a technician who got back at his company after his boss gave him a promotion without a raise. Let's just say that he found a way to get 'the raise he deserved'.

‘Your new squeeze Darren can pay [the bills] now’: Meal-ticket boyfriend gets the ultimate payback on a cheating ex, leaving her with 3 months of unpaid bills

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 15:00

Financial parasites can hunt for prey in a lot of ways, but the easiest targets are always the ones with generous spirits and a bleeding heart. While not everyone is wary of their romantic suitors in this department (especially if you're not particularly wealthy), disillusion doesn't mean that you're safe from a parasitic girlfriend or boyfriend. It's usually once they get their hooks in your bank account that a romantic partner will show you their true colors.

In our next story, one man caught on to his ex-girlfriend's toxic ways before it cost him bankruptcy. Fueled by the jeers of a selfish and demeaning comment on his menial expenses, the man learned quickly that he was more than just a financial floatation device for his girl, he was her meal ticket as well as her sidepiece.

Scroll for the full heroic tale of how one man stood up for himself against a parasitic cheater by letting the bills pile up for three months before leaving her with a stack of unpaid bills and a breakup.

'The business is floundering': Sales employee takes boss to court after she spends months singling him out at work

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 14:00

This dude worked at a company for twelve years, but his loyalty was not rewarded the way he'd hoped it would be. Thanks to a new manager, this guy had to watch in real time as his job morphed into something new.

Even after working at a business for more than a decade, one sales employee was still not being appreciated. As he shared in a malicious compliance story, his sales job involved a bit of travel and working with various different clients. After about a decade of working there happily, he was still enjoying his job. Then, after a change in management, he realized that his work life was also about to undergo a big change.

This guy was smart enough to cover all of his bases by getting everything in writing. He even went so far as to record a conversation without permission (after making sure it was legal in his area). You can check out all of the excellent drama of this person's career evolution below. Then, one person shared the super weird personality test they were asked to take for a job interview, like one question that asked, "Someone has eaten your lunch. How do you feel?"

'Within 15 minutes, I lost access to everything': Company celebrates employee's work anniversary only to fire him the very next day

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 13:00

As much as companies love to say that the workplace is just like a family, we all know that these people are not your family, sometimes they are not even your friends. Your boss doesn't see you as a family member, and they do not hesitate to toss you aside the moment you do not profit the company the way they expect you to. I don't know about your family, but it is definitely not how mine works.

The employee on this Reddit story learned these facts the hard way. A mere day after the company celebrates the employee's two-year anniversary in the firm, he is invited to a call in which he gets fired immediately. 15 minutes after that, he was no longer a member of that "family". The employee, shocked and hurt, was surprised to learn that the same thing happened to 25 other employees… Some family.

'I love how you just wear anything': 30+ Perfectly passive-aggressive compliments

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 12:00

Here's a little inspiration for your next petty compliment. The next time you need to lightly roast your annoying boss or your unsuspecting aunt, keep a few of these zingers in mind.

There are times to be sassy, and times to zip our lips. There might be times you really want to make fun of your boss who constantly sends emails to the wrong person and is always forgetting things at his desk. But you can't just roast him in front of the whole office and risk your career. But there's nothing stopping you from confusing your boss into thinking he's getting a compliment, when you're actually making fun of him.

When u/ThisGuyAgainz asked, "What's your best passive-aggressive "compliment"?" people did not hold back. They shared their funniest jabs (as well as the quips people told them). Several people wrote that people often say things like, "You look great for a [insert role or descriptor here]." For example, no parent of a newborn wants to hear, "Wow, you look so great for a new mom who's getting no sleep!" Thanks, what a lovely reminder.

Check out this funny list from r/AskReddit down below. And after that, check out the story of an aspiring YouTube van-life couple who have realized their friends don't want their new RV parked in their driveways

Landlady Karen keeps showing up unannounced, tenant enacts payback: '[My] patience finally wore out'

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 11:00

Rarely do tenants get the opportunity to stick it to their landlords and win out in the end. When this unusual phenomenon occurs, we need to celebrate the moment, as nine times out of ten, the tenant tends to lose.

Here, we have a tenant who lived in a small duplex right under, you guess it, their landlady, who was also the neighborhood Karen (a popular combination). Now, Karen decided to sell the entire duplex, but this is not what frustrated the Redditor. In fact, the tenant was overjoyed at the opportunity to work with an entirely different landlord, so this was the push they needed. What became a problem was that the Karen had to show the Redditor's place to prospective tenants and started to completely dishonor the rules, continually showing up unannounced.

After numerous conversations and warnings, the Redditor decided it was time to take matters into their own hands. Keep scrolling below to see what transpired the next time this landlady tried to pull the same stunt. For more stories like this, check out this list of out-of-touch comments made by the Karens of the world.

'He couldn't hire anyone willing to except such a [low] wage and boring work': Employee gets revenge after being demoted when entitled boss couldn't hire new staff

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 10:00

There's nothing more frustrating than working for a boss who fails to deliver on their promises. You end up putting in extra hours, only to find those promises empty and yourself shortchanged. Have you ever been in a situation where your company was short-staffed, and you were asked to take on additional responsibilities while they searched for new hires, only for those hires never to actually be hired?

I have. At a previous job, the boss would frequently dismiss employees without warning, leaving me to take on the extra workload. And in the story below, another unfortunate employee gets put in a similar scenario. This employee found himself single-handedly constructing a new production line while the boss struggled to fill vacant positions with new hires due to his unreasonably low wages.

The boss's solution? Demote the employee and cut his salary. When the employee refused to accept this unfair treatment and turned in his resignation, the boss retaliated by assigning him an impossible task to be completed within a single day.

So, the employee compiled… maliciously.

'Sleep well, dude': Man leaves loud neighbor with parting gift after long standing neighborly dispute

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 09:00

Your neighbors are your closest allies. They can assist with receiving packages, impart insightful information about the surrounding area, keep a watchful eye on your home, and much more. However, should misfortune find you and you are forced to live next door to a horrible person who has been a headache since the minute she arrived, do you participate in her little game of torment or do you cave into all of her absurd requests in an attempt to keep things at bay?

The Original Poster (OP) recently moved into a one-up, one-down duplex, with him living on the bottom floor and a couple on the top floor. At first, everything appeared to be going smoothly, but he soon discovered that his upstairs neighbors were some of the most hazardous people he had ever seen. They enjoyed constantly and loudly pounding on the doors of the tenants. What's the point of this, one could wonder? The answer, in my opinion, is very obvious: disturbing the building's residents.

That being said, if you're interested in finding out what happens next and how OP gets even with the entitled couple, be sure to read the story below! And once you're done, don't forget to check out the story about the truck driver who drags a micro-managing supervisor to upper management!

'It was "bring your kid to work day"': Surprised job candidate reacts to being interviewed by an 11-year-old

Tue, 02/27/2024 - 08:00

You can be prepared for almost anything to happen at your job interviewAlmost anything.

Whether you're 16 or 61, interviewing for a job can be nerve-wracking. It helps to prepare beforehand by studying up on the company's history and rereading the job listing to make sure you can answer every question in the best possible way. After all, the more confident you feel about your skillset going into the job interview, the better you'll perform.

Some companies like to throw you off by asking really random questions or having you meet a bunch of different people. Other businesses like to have group interviews to annoy the interviewees see how their candidates work with others and manage to stand out in a crowd. There are all the usual questions like "What was a time you worked collaboratively to solve a problem?" or "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"

There's nothing in the world that could've prepared this dude for the weirdest interview of his life. You can check out his entire story below. In the comments section, people were surprisingly divided about his reactions. Some people sided with the interview candidate who had to deal with a humiliating situation. Others chided the guy for not being easy-going.

Next up, this couple broadcast their text messages on social media only to immediately get roasted for being entitled
