'[I’m not] her backup plan': Childfree coworker refuses to continue bending over backwards for a single mom when she starts taking advantage of their availability, setting healthy office boundaries

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 06:00
She had a more lenient schedule because she had no children, but the single mom in the office saw that as an invitation to take advantage.

Being a parent and working full-time is like having two incompatible careers that are constantly bickering and vying for your attention. And yet, while many parents in the workforce juggle their responsibilities with grace and dignity, there are some, particularly in this next story, who can't handle the pressure. Although it's completely understandable to be overwhelmed, the single mom in this next story took things too far, guilt-tripping her coworker into picking up the slack because she "knew she had no other responsibilities."

Just because your coworker doesn't have kids doesn't mean they have nothing better to do but wait around for your beck and call…

Many young adults in the workforce are opting to stay childfree longer than they did in the past. Usually, because of financial pressures, social experiences, or personal preferences, that's a person's prerogative to keep their lives free of soccer practice schedules, PTA meetings, and local bake sales. Some people just want to go home after work, kick off their shoes, and have a mellow evening to themselves, and that's totally their prerogative!

While there are many wonders to being a parent, like watching a mini-me goblin grow up in real time and having the rewarding experiences of raising a family, some parents secretly envy those around them who have the free time after work to say "no" to the family life bustle.

16-year-old refuses to donate her chocolate fountain to family friend's wedding after not getting invited: 'If I’m not invited to their wedding, I don’t owe them anything'

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 05:00
Everyone has a prized possession that is priceless to them. For this teenager, it was her beloved chocolate fountain.

It's possible that the 16-year-old might have been convinced to agree to donate her fountain as a gift to her family friend's upcoming wedding. However, the fact that she was practically told outright that she would not be allowed to attend the wedding ended the engaged couple's dreams of getting the fountain for free.

Asking a favor of anyone, even a family friend, does not necessarily mean that this person will want something in return. That being said, they will at least expect some level of generosity, even if it's just a kind sentiment. Yet this engaged couple genuinely thought they could convince a literal teenager to take her prized possession away from her, albeit temporarily, without even letting her enjoy the fountain herself.

They likely thought that the 16-year-old's mother would be calling the shots in this situation. Talk about a naive assumption to make when you're dealing with an easily enraged high school student. Anyone who either has a teenager of their own or interacts with them regularly knows that it takes a lot to get them to do something nice out of the goodness of their hearts. Instead, they are wont to ask what's in it for them.

We don't blame teenagers for acting this way. Most of us behaved this way ourselves. However, the most immature folks in this anecdote are the engaged ones, not the 16-year-old. She was just being a teenager, but they were the ones who thought they could get away with getting their dream chocolate fountain while disregarding its owner's wishes.

Wanting to protect her space and routine, she lays out a simple plan that includes rules and shared expenses. What she sees as reasonable quickly turns into conflict when her sister reacts strongly and refuses to compromise. Now, what was meant to be a solution has turned into a full-blown family drama.

22 DIY Fails With Good Intentions But Hilariously Bad Outcomes

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 01:00
Some DIY projects start with the best intentions and a burst of confidence that quickly fades the moment things go off track. What looks simple online can turn into a chaotic mess in real life, and that is exactly where the fun begins. From slightly off results to full-blown disasters, these DIY fails remind us that not everything goes according to plan. Still, there is something oddly satisfying about seeing how wrong things can go. At the very least, they make for a great story later.

‘You shouldn’t have a maid, you are not busy enough!’: Coworker criticizes young professor for hiring household help, tries to shame her at a work dinner for not doing her own chores, pushing the lecturer to shut it down and cut her out

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 16:00
The lives of these two colleagues sit next to each other like a split screen, and just like you would imagine, it isn't fun, although it does involve gamesOn one side, there is a young literature professor who worked hard early, landed a good university job, and decided that adulthood for her means fresh cooking, outsourced chores, and actual free time. She hires help for cleaning and laundry, keeps her energy for work and the things she enjoys, and does not feel the need to prove anything through scrubbing.

Workplace friendship starts to fade after coworker gets promoted and begins acting like the boss he used to complain about: ‘I don’t recognize him anymore’

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 15:00
Workplace friendships often feel solid… Until roles change.

A promotion brings greater responsibility, higher expectations from upper management, and the need to demonstrate your ability to handle a new role. You earn opportunities for professional development and career growth, which are some of its biggest advantages. Still, it can mean increased stress, more pressure, less freedom to act casually, and the challenge of earning respect while maintaining fairness. And sometimes, relationships with colleagues start to change. That's exactly what happened to the employee in today's story. His coworker's rise to team lead didn't just change their workplace dynamic; it also transformed a friendship he thought would last.

In the end, work is work. Transitioning from one role to a bigger one can be challenging for almost anyone, and many people struggle to find the right balance between authority and flexibility. But there's also power at play here. Some people change their personality when they gain more power because they begin to see themselves differently. Their behavior shifts based on what they believe a 'leader' is supposed to be, and their past experiences with supervisors may shape their vision of leadership, too. Others may simply like the feeling of having more control over others.

We don't know what kind of internal process this coworker is going through, but one thing is clear. He's acting more rigid and overly professional with a friend. Can we blame him? Probably not. We assume that he's doing his job and he's trying to do it well. A manager isn't supposed to treat one employee differently from others, and close friendships can complicate fairness when it comes to performance reviews. But his friend's feelings are valid too. The person he used to laugh with at lunch breaks now feels distant, and getting used to that new dynamic can be hard to digest. Watching a friend change can feel like losing someone, even if they're still sitting at the next desk. But in the workplace, what once felt like friendship may turn into professionalism, and that's not always a betrayal. Sometimes, it's just a new reality we must accept.

Car owner recovers the 1967 Impala his GF secretly sold: 'I spent over $11k on that car'

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 14:00
While her partner was on a trip, this girlfriend took the chance to "tidy up" their living space… by selling off her BF's car

Aside from getting to drive where ever you want at any time, having a car can become a fantastic hobby.

For a lot of men, their ideal weekend involves having plenty of time to work on their project car. They start tinkering under the hood, which attracts other guys around the neighborhood to come over and talk shop. You wind up with like 4 or 5 neighbors all standing around talking about the car, and their own projects, and their plans for the future.

For some guys, there isn't a social aspect, but it's still a rewarding project to bring a car back to life. Some people enjoy buying some real fixer-uppers and doing just that — reviving them with fresh parts and a new coat of paint. It makes the car not only look great, but it gives them the satisfaction of knowing they can accomplish a huge goal with their own 2 hands.

However, this person's 1967 Impala 4-door was disappeared by their GF while they were away. You just have to read this story to believe it, because the audacity of the GF is stunning.

Update: Freelancer questions what to do with $7,000 left behind by client who quit

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 12:00
This person is facing an interesting workplace dilemma — what to do with an extra $7k that a client left behind?

How much is $7k worth to a company?

To an individual person, or a freelancer, that's like, a ton of money. To most companies, that's pocket change! And that's why this person was having trouble squaring what they should do when left with some extra cash.

As they explained it, there was a bit of a situation with this company they were freelancing for. They explain that a client asked them to bill him for a "made-up project," presumably just setting aside their hours for a project that hadn't been fully fleshed out yet.

‘Boycott this film!’: Val Kilmer’s posthumous generative AI performance cannot be his legacy

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 11:00
Val Kilmer is making an acting comeback from beyond the grave, and his fans aren't happy about it.

That's because Kilmer won't really be acting in it. Instead, the upcoming historical adventure film As Deep as the Grave will feature the likeness of Kilmer in a posthumous performance that has been entirely generated by AI.

Although filmmaker Coerte Voorhees allegedly earned the approval from Kilmer's family estate, the backlash has already begun, and the film isn't even out yet. Even if Kilmer himself would have approved of this so-called "artistic choice," that does not mean that the team behind As Deep as the Grave should get a free pass for using generative AI for a role that could have been performed by a human being. Was this not a major reason why SAG-AFTRA performers went on strike in 2023? Has the industry learned nothing from that strike?

We'll never know if Kilmer would have truly wanted this apparent tribute. We know that he wanted to act in this project before his illness made him unable to do so. But Hollywood could be establishing a dangerous precedent by allowing this project to move forward in this capacity. Today, it's a tribute to Kilmer, but before long, it could be every actor's job that is at risk. It's doubtful that Kilmer would have wanted to become the face of a precedent that might put his fellow actors out of work one day.

If anything, Kilmer's "performance" in As Deep as the Grave could tarnish the legacy of a movie star who was once associated with traditional, good old-fashioned Hollywood moviegoing. There are many ways that the filmmakers behind this project could have forged ahead while paying tribute to Kilmer, but generative AI is not the way to do it.

Hardware store employee gets 30+ copies of a refrigerator manual delivered to a customer's house because she's too impatient to comprehend snail mail: ‘I started calling Maytag twice a day’

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 10:00
There are a few, rare moments in every retail employee's career where they get the opportunity to be wholly and completely compliant with customer service policy, while also making a customer pay for their rudeness: This is one of those moments.

A hardware store employee sold a clearance sale refrigerator to a woman in her 60s, promising to have a fresh copy of the owner's manual sent to her directly from the manufacturer via snail mail. When the woman left the store that day, and he ordered her manual from Maytag, this employee thought that would be the last he heard from the customer.

Except she started to call them on their personal extension. Every. Single. Day.

Within 48 hours of sending her off, the salesman had received several furious phone calls from the woman complaining that her manual hadn't arrived yet. Well, ma'am, it's only been two days. Any regular, logical person knows that normal snail mail takes weeks for a delivery, and it was unrealistic to expect a teleported copy of her owner's manual. Alas, customer entitlement knows no bounds; sales reps should be able to make the post office YIELD to their demands, right?

So this employee did what any self-respecting, petty, and maliciously compliant customer service rep would. He made sure that the woman would receive her manual, and then some

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 09:00
After taking a lateral move that came with a pay cut under the promise that they would be next in line for promotion if they did so, this employee found themselves not only passed up for promotion but also hand-holding their new boss, even long after the learning curve period

Daughter-in-law told she's not ready to be a Mom because she can't drive

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 08:00
There's a lot to consider when you're becoming a parent for the first time.

If you want to become a parent, by all means, go ahead! There's very little stopping most people from actually having a child. But caring for and raising your child takes a ridiculous amount of time, energy, money, and planning, and it's just not something that every parent fully considers before they commit to having a baby.

When you're expecting a baby, you get to have all the fun of telling people about it, picking out clothes and a stroller and a crib, painting the nursery, and so on. But once the baby has arrived, it's just 2 partners and a screaming newborn. It's 3 AM and your baby hasn't slept in days, and there's no one around to help out except the 2 adults. It's these less-than-glamorous parts of parenthood that not everyone is prepared for before baby arrives.

This person thinks they might be overcritical about their daughter-in-law's sudden announcement that she and her husband are going to start trying to have a baby.

But… are they? They made a simple observation that really upset their DIL, and I don't even think they're wrong for pointing it out!

Woman confronts neighbor’s guest who blocks her family’s driveway regularly, but he only tries making excuses: ‘It's not public property, he does this every day’

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 06:00
Neighbor parking disputes can pretty easily bring your nerves to a gentle simmer, but neighbors' guests blocking your driveway regularly? That could bring asphalt to a boilThis guy is not just dropping someone off. He is running a whole side operation out of the space in front of the house he does not live in.

Manager schedules daily check-ins during employee's lunch break, employee insists on cooking during the meeting anyway: 'I made a full grilled cheese on my little desk griddle'

Fri, 03/27/2026 - 05:00
This manager was unwilling to respect his employee's designated lunch breaks, so in return, this employee was unwilling to wait until after their meeting to eat.

Many of us have worked in environments where the sometimes unspoken rule is the pressure to stay at one's desk and work through lunch hours. Oftentimes, new hires will take notes from their superiors. If they see that the folks on the team rarely take the lunch break that they're very much entitled to take, then the cycle will likely continue until someone challenges it.

This worker shared his story about what happened when his manager decided to reschedule their daily check-in meetings to take place right at 12:00 pm. Despite numerous attempts to subtly imply that this was not an ideal for him, as the employee was someone who valued his lunch breaks, his manager would not budge. So, the employee decided that he would comply and attend these meetings, but he wasn't exactly going to follow classic meeting decorum.

Instead, he decided to use this time to cook elaborate and sometimes very noisy lunch while remaining unmuted during these meetings. First, it was ramen. Then, it was a salad that required a ton of chopping (yes, he chose this recipe specifically because of the number of vegetables he would need to chop). Finally, he decided to cook a full-on grilled cheese with a small griddle he was gifted by his spouse. His manager wasn't very happy with this, but at the end of the day, he had no one to blame but himself.

UPDATE: 37-year-old brother sends anonymous flowers to 35-year-old sister, leading sister to divorce her husband

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 14:00
While attempting to cheer his sister up, this man ended up causing a whole lot of hoopla

Most people are delighted to get flowers. It's a momentary bright spot in your day that lets you know someone was thinking about you and wanted you to have a beautiful floral arrangement.

But this guy took kind of an odd approach to sending his sister some flowers, and the resulting meltdown it caused was just so bizarre.

Job candidate leaves in the middle of group interview after company refuses to provide health insurance to new hires: ‘I don't care’

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 13:00
How can you tell that the company you're interviewing for actually cares about its employees?

It can be tricky, finding ways to glean into a company's culture while you're in the hiring process. It's not like you can ask how they treat their employees, because obviously, they will never tell you if they treat them badly. And most companies don't really let current employees talk to potential hires.

This means that job candidates have to be smart about how they can find out if the workplace they are interviewing for is worth their time. You have to ask the right questions, know what benefits are a must, and what it means to you when a company refuses to provide something.

The job candidate below, for example, recognised a few signs in their hiring process that pointed to a company that doesn't really care about its employees. First, the hiring process itself was a red flag, since the workplace insisted on doing a group interview with other candidates, which is not a good indication of how attentive the company is to its workers.

But the real reason why this candidate decided to withdraw their application was because of something that happened during the group interview. When the hiring manager asked if anyone had any questions, this candidate decided to inquire about the health insurance for the employees, and to their surprise, they were told that the only employees who are eligible for health insurance are branch managers, meaning only four employees in the whole company.

This was an immediate sign for this job candidate that the company doesn't value its employees. If they refuse to provide something as basic as health insurance to all their workers, they obviously don't care about their health. And this candidate has no interest in working for a workplace like that.

The candidate decided they are not going to waste another minute for this company, and left the group interview the second they heard the hiring manager's response about the health insurance. Was that the right call? Keep scrolling to read all about it.

55-year-old tells 46-year-old wife to get a job after she insists that they keep working overtime

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 12:00
This parent has put their kids through school by working incredibly hard… so why doesn't their wife want them to stop working yet?

We all want to have time, money, and energy to accomplish all of our dreams, and ususally, you get to pick 1 or 2 of those things. You can work a lot and have a ton of money, but no time or energy to spend all that cash. If you do have the time to travel, you might not have enough money to go on a lavish trip.

And for this person, all they really wanted to do was ensure that their kids had a bright future ahead of them.

32-year-old man mocks 23-year-old sister's babysitting gig, she starts charging him her full rate for watching his kids

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 11:00
This woman's older brother had the audacity to make fun of her side hustle while also taking her for granted.

Here's hoping he learned his lesson about what happens when you play games with the people you actually need by your side.

As for the young woman, let's take a moment to appreciate all that she is juggling while still being a student. First of all, it goes without saying that the vast majority of students do not have enough time on their hands to work full-time jobs while pursuing their studies.

Students who work deserve credit for taking on more responsibility than their classmates. They have to manage their class and work schedules while carving out some precious study time for themselves. Trying to squeeze in a robust social life on top of that makes it nearly impossible to balance, but so many students find a way to make it work.

The fact that this woman was babysitting her older brother's kids nearly every week for free, only to receive criticism from him for not getting a real job, only goes to show how much unnecessary pressure we put on student workers. They don't need unsolicited advice. They need support and understanding, especially from family members.

In this case, there is a guy quietly doing data analysis, learning PHP, automating onboarding for a logistics company, basically building a stable future out of spreadsheets and brain cells. Meanwhile, his aunt has decided he is one inspirational quote away from throwing it all out to go hand out flyers in a mall
