Mittens is a survivor, and part of us believes she fought so hard to stay alive so that she could spend her remaining years with the family that loved her from the beginning.

It's never an easy choice to rehome a pet. We'd like to believe that everyone always does it for the "right" reasons, but the reality is that most times, they don't. Rehoming a pet, in our opinion, should only be an option after all the other solutions have failed and the quality of the pet's life is suffering. After you've gone to the vet to rule out any medical issues, and certainly after you've tried making adjustments to the household to make them more comfortable. But that wasn't what happened to Mittens, the wholesome kitty from Reddit's r/cats community, who is the star of our story below.

Mittens was a family cat, but was unfurtunately rehomed due to the mother's toxic partner not wanting to live with a cat. The mom and her daughter never thought they would see Mittens again, but then again, cats never fail to surprise us with how resilient they can be. 8 years later, Mittens was returned by a couple who had been feeding her as a stray. They were worried about her, so they brought her into the vet, scanned her microchip, and found that the mom was still the contact listed there. The vet called the mother, who called her daughter, and both went immediately to pick her up. 

But here's the real kicker: people had been calling her "Bella", but as soon as the mother and daughter arrived, they called her "Mittens", and she immediately recognized her old family. Just that alone is enough to make us tear up.

Mittens is now 14 years old, and a survivor. They don't know how long she was a stray, but they do know that they're going to spend the last years of her life spoiling her rotten. Every day, she's working on getting healthier and adjusting back to the indoor life. 

The world may be full of bad news nowadays, but Mittens is a reminder that good things do happen, and they should be celebrated as much as pawssible to fend off the darkness.

Who doesn't love a sweet thing like Cornbread?

Orange cats hold a special place in our hearts. They may be the most chaotic of our feline brethren, but they are also some of the sweetest cats we've ever met. Our second cat was an orange boy, named Cheeto, and we loved him from the second we saw him until his very last breath. Every day, we came home to some sort of disaster, from toilet paper being shredded, to even finding him with his head stuck in the wall (he made the hole, and then got stuck in it). Our lives with Cheeto were never boring, and looking back on it, we're purrfectly grateful for all of his shenanigans. Why? Because now that he's gone, they're all happy meowmories that help him live on in our hearts.

Cornbread, our orange cat below, did not get dealt the same hand of cards that Cheeto did. But thanks to Friends of Bear Cat Rescue, Cornbread now has a chance to live out his golden years with a family that truly appreciates him. He was abandoned by his previous owners when they moved and left outside to fend for himself. He got in quite a bit of trouble, even getting a nasty mouth infection that left him hungry, in pain, and confused. Worse than that, the neighbors shooed him off, meaning this sweet cat had nowhere to turn to until Friends of Bear Cat Rescue saved him.

One year later, Cornbread finally got what he's been craving this whole time: a family that loves him. His new pawrents saw his heart and decided to adopt him, and now he's happily following the sun around their house, and showing his hoomans all the appreciation he can for taking him in. It brings tears to our eyes to see Cornbread so full of joy and purrfect contentment. 

Give senior cats a chance if you're looking for a new cat. They just want somewhere safe to sleep and to give out their love until they can't anymore. Be like Cornbread's pawrents and adopt a Cornbread of your own one day!

If it took you five months to notice that your cat was missing and do something about it, were you ever really the cat's owner?

We think that every cat owner in the world can agree that their cat running away is one of their worst fears. We know what our cats are like. We know how spoiled our cats are, how dependent our cats are on our love and care, even if our cats would deny it. We know it. Which is why the thought of our little innocent fluffball running out of the house and disappearing couldn't scare us more. We think that's part of what makes us good cat owners. Cats may not come with batteries, but the evidence is becoming difficult to ignore.

Cats have somehow convinced the world that they spend most of their day sleeping. Anyone who has lived with a cat knows the truth. They're charging.

Bigfoot may have arrived as a stranger, but he clearly had no plans of staying one for long. 

Sometimes the Cat Distribution System works so perfectly that it almost feels planned. Over on Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit, one family shared the happy update that the friendly mystery cat who wandered into their lives has no microchip, meaning he is officially staying put. The cat, now named Bigfoot, showed up out of nowhere and immediately acted like he had been living there for years.

From the moment he arrived, Bigfoot was incredibly affectionate and comfortable around people. He was healthy, well-fed, and had a soft, clean coat, which made it seem obvious that he had belonged to someone at some point. His new family asked around the neighborhood hoping to find an owner, but nobody recognized him or knew where he had come from.

As the days passed, the possibility that he had been abandoned started to feel more likely. It's sad that some cats are left behind or dropped off with the hope that someone else will take responsibility for them. Fortunately for Bigfoot, he ended up in exactly the right place.

The best part of the story might be how quickly he fit in with the resident cats. Rather than causing tension, he was welcomed almost immediately. That made the decision even easier for the family, who had already fallen for his friendly personality. His oversized paws earned him the name Bigfoot, and it sounds like he has fully embraced both the name and his new life.

After arriving as an unexpected visitor, Bigfoot is no longer a mystery cat. He's family.

After 12.5 years, you would have no hope for your lost cat to come back to you, right? Well, these cat owners had just enough hope to keep the cat's chip updated for all these years. 

Having your cat run away is one of the most chilling experiences you can go through as a cat owner, especially when it comes to fully indoor cats. They're supposed to be there, chilling in their sun spot or wrapped up in their favorite blanket, and if they are suddenly not, if you suddenly legitimately cannot find them, you become terrified. Because you know that your spoiled little kitty could never survive very long out there on their own.

One second, our cats are there, the other, the door is open, they slip out, and you never see them again. That's exactly what happened to them. Their kitty went missing over a decade ago. The owner, thankfully, didn't change their phone number and did keep the microchip information updated for her cat, but we don't think that they ever expected their feline to actually come back. Except he did. When he needed their help the most, he found his way back to them. 

If you think that cuddling with your regular house cat is one of the best feelings in the world, imagine the same thing but bigger and fluffier. 

There are not many things in life that are better than cuddling with your cat. In fact, it may be one of the best feelings in the world. Period. It's an honor, it's a privilege, it's a rarity. Not every cat lets you cuddle with them, so we, the ones who do have that privilege, know that it is something special. We tuck our itty bitty kitty next to us, wrap them up in our arms, and we do not let go. 

The only thing that might possibly be slightly better than this is cuddling with a giant cat. And listen, okay, as much as we would love to cuddle with a lion or something, we do understand that it is not a possibility. So we have to go for the next best thing. We have to go for the cat that is the closest thing to a wild cat that you can cuddle. A Maine Coon. If you have never heard of them, Maine Coons are house cats… but bigger and fluffier. They are basically oversized cat pillows, and it is our dream to cuddle with one. 

We don't know if you have noticed, but our feeds have been… kinda chaotic lately. And we've had enough of that. It's time to add some whiskery wonders to the chaos. 

On the internet, there is one rule and one rule only. There must always be cats on your feed. A one brain cell orange…

A construction site at night, filled with still tractors and machinery, and an orange kitten roams around. In Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem, this little guy was heard meowing from the construction site by a family who lived next to the site. They couldn't find a mother, so they took him and gave him some food. After the vet visit, they found out he's only 1 month old! Meet Dorito. It would be terrifying to see a cat in a dangerous position on a bridge, but would you stop to save it?

Imagine riding your bike one day and you suddenly see a cat on a bridge. Would you stop to save her? Would you keep riding? In Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem, this man was riding his bike and saw this guy on top of a bridge. He was shocked albeit he knew he had to do something. The bridge is long and there's a lot of noise and traffic below, so he's not sure how she got there but he spent 20 minutes gently trying to get her to go to him. He really didn't want her to lose her balance so he took it slowly. He looked around for signs of a mother cat or other siblings but he didn't see anything. He walked back home with her in his arms; she was sweet the entire time and never made an attempt to bite or wiggle free, just an occasional meow. She weights 1.8 pounds, and she's about 8 weeks old. There's a certain humor in random cat adoptions, and we think we know why all these silly coincidences happen.

Stories like this one, in the r/CatDistributionSystem community, reveal the reason for the strange and silly coincidences in cat adoptions right in the name - the Cat Distribution System. It's the answer and reason, but the thing is… no one actually knows what the CDS actually is. It's a meowing mystery. We see its results all over - cats who find their purrfect human from the most unlikely of places. Ditches, under bushes, inside car engines, on roofs they can't get down from - cats find themselves in the most random places, and get adopted by the human who spotted them at the right time.

But how it happens is the real mystery. Personally, we like to imagine extra sentient cats in a pocket dimension that looks like the 1950s, much like The Commission from The Umbrella Academy. They sit in front of retro sci-fi machinery and screens, matching the cats in need to the person who will adopt them, and let the events unfold. They plan it all from there, in ways we could never grasp. Or not, you know, it's just how we imagine it.

The point is that every cat finds their forever home and it seems just right. The right person, the right time, the right place (as weird or dangerous as it may be). The CDS works its meowgic, just like with this fostering person, who finished a successful foster and got the cat adopted - the CDS sensed the vacancy, and sent a kitten her way - one that would stay there forever.

What do cat parents do when their feline friend becomes a fluffy flurry with the power of zoomies?

Cat parents to extra-athletic cats take pictures, of course. All cat parents take pictures, but it's the running-jumping-acrobaticing kind of cats that get some of the most impressive pictures out of their humans. And some of the blurriest, be sure of that. They're everything from purrfect to bonkers. And we love it.

As feline pawrents have come to find out, Caturday is a day where our cat children let go of all decorum and run wild and free, elated by the prospect of having a hooman home to feed them and clean up any messes the moment they happen.

But what we do not talk about enough is how to handle this heck of a day. Sure, there is no denying that Catruday has a whole lot of beauty to it. She discovers in the backyard shed a mother cat and a litter of kittens living there! The woman could see that the cats were pretty skittish and didn't want to be disturbed. She brought them food and water and left them alone. The next day, she comes back to see how they're doing while trying not to scare them. She mostly worries about the kittens because she wants to help, but can't get close enough yet.

Finally Caturday, the day we've all been waiting for. Some of you might have been waiting for Friday, or maybe Sunday, or maybe you have shift work and you are waiting for your Monday off. But most people who work a standard 9-5 job are just waiting for the weekend. Have you ever considered how sad it actually is that we're all just counting the days, moments, seconds where we can not be working or planning to go to work? It's 2026, can't someone do something about this? Why do we have AI but we still work 5 days a week? Okay rant over, but seriously, the weekend is the best. It's our time to do whatever we want for ourselves. We can sleep all day, we can be out all day. We can go clubbing, work on something productive, drive to another town and camp for the night, or spend the whole time in bed with your kitty. 

Cats love the weekend because it also means rest. You might think they rest all the time but you're wrong! They're also influenced by our day to day, and they can't fully relax knowing we're stressed and in and out of the home. They feel our energy, they're animals at the end of the day. Their instincts really do affect everything, and their perception is on point. They have more time with us on the weekend, and we have more time with them. There's more connection, and that's something they actually really enjoy. So here's to the weekend, here's to cats, and here's to a future without a 5 day workweek!
