You never know what you'll come home with after a late-night shopping trip.

Some people spend years saying they'll get a cat "when the time is right." Others come up with very specific rules, hoping the decision will never actually have to be made. The Cat Distribution System loves people like that because it treats every rule as a personal challenge.

One couple had been joking for eight years that they could only get a cat if the Cat Distribution System chose them first. It sounded like a safe deal... until one late-night trip to Sam's Club for Pokémon cards changed everything. While waiting in line, one shopper noticed an affectionate little kitten making friends with everyone nearby. A few pets turned into cuddles, cuddles turned into attachment, and by 4 a.m. the kitten was heading home instead of back into the parking lot.

The husband did what so many future cat parents do. First came the obligatory, "Don't get attached." Then reality set in. It wasn't long before he was the one naming their newest family member, JuFufu, after a cat character from a game they both play. Soon after that came the selfies, which pretty much confirmed the kitten had already won him over.

JuFufu played this perfectly. She didn't need to meow dramatically or chase anyone through the parking lot. She simply wandered over, accepted a few pets, and let her charm do the rest. Sometimes that's all it takes.

The Cat Distribution System has an impressive success rate when it comes to changing people's minds. One minute, someone is convinced they're just waiting in line for trading cards. The next, they're shopping for cat food, arguing over names, and wondering how the house ever felt complete without a tiny ball of fur running around. JuFufu may not have been on anyone's shopping list, but she was clearly exactly what this family had been waiting for.

Every forever home starts somewhere. This one started under a grill cover.

Some kittens don't wait to be found. They pick a spot, stay put, and hope the right person comes along. Bibi's hiding place happened to be under her future human's boss's grill cover, and after spending three days there, her patience finally paid off.

While visiting their boss's house, one cat lover discovered a hungry little kitten tucked away beneath the grill cover in the backyard. Nobody knew where she'd come from, though it was suspected she may have wandered over after an abandoned farmhouse across the road was torn down. She'd apparently been hiding there for three days, waiting for someone to notice her. Hungry, alone, and far too young to be on her own, she couldn't have picked a better person to find her.

A trip to the vet revealed that Bibi was a healthy 12-week-old kitten with adorable extra toes, making her even more special than anyone expected. She was a little underweight after going without proper meals, but that quickly became yesterday's problem. These days her routine is exactly what every growing kitten dreams about: eat, play, nap, repeat.

The updates only get sweeter. Bibi has already claimed a hoodie as one of her favorite sleeping spots, spends her waking hours bouncing from one adventure to the next, and has fully embraced the wonderfully chaotic lifestyle that comes with being a kitten. She's currently staying separated from the family's two resident cats while being treated for roundworms, but that hasn't slowed her down one bit. Before long, she'll be exploring the rest of the house and introducing herself to her furry siblings.

Three days under a grill cover ended with a forever home, full bowls, and a family completely wrapped around one little polydactyl paw.

Cats and food have been locked in an intimate tango for about as long as anyone can remember.

No matter what we, devoted cat pawrents, try - our feline companions seem to exist in a near-permanent state of hunger. It doesn't even matter if they've just finished a full meal minutes ago - the second you start wandering anywhere near the kitchen, the meowing begins, loud, insistent, and utterly convinced that a snack is imminent. Are you actually getting them food? Doesn't matter. In your cat's mind, the answer is always yes, obviously, why else would you be walking in that direction? Cats have apparently been born foodies, remained foodies throughout every stage of life, and will, in all likelihood, stay foodies until the sun burns out. Or, you know, until you actually put food in the bowl. Whichever comes first.

Given that cats have basically claimed the throne of internet royalty, it tracks that an entire universe of memes exists purely to celebrate them, and food-obsessed cats are no exception. The math is almost embarrassingly simple: cats love food, we love cats, and somewhere in that overlap a whole meowgnificent sub-genre of memes was born. And honestly, if you're a cat pawrent reading this, you already get it. You've lived it. You know exactly what that desperate, food-motivated meow sounds like at 6 AM.

If anyone knows how to turn their body into a perfect circle, it's a cat.

Cats have a reputation for finding the coziest position in any room, so it should come as no surprise that some of them have mastered geometry along the way. Give a cat a soft blanket, a warm patch of sun, and a few spare minutes, and you've got the recipe for a flawless floofy donut. Curling up seems to be something cats approach with real dedication. Some tuck their nose all the way under their tail for the classic tight coil, while others go for a looser loop, paws just barely brushing their own chin. A few take it further still, wrapping themselves so completely around their own body that it's hard to tell where the head ends and the tail begins.

There's something instinctive about the circle - it conserves warmth, protects the belly, and turns even the biggest cat into a small, tidy little loaf. Just because an animal cannot be released back into the wild does not mean that they cannot find a new purpose and live a full and happy life. 

Back in 2016, Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center came across a young bobcat that needed help. She had a strange head tilt, likely caused by some head trauma, and that simply wasn't right. Because of this, she could not be released into the wild. But that didn't mean that her journey was over. That didn't mean that she instantly lost her purpose as a bobcat. And her caretakers knew that and decided to help her find a new purpose - as a foster mother, helping other rescued bobcat kittens get ready to be released back into the wild. 

The conservation center gets lots of rescued cubs, and the goal with each and every one of them, of course, is safe release into the wild. So, after they are done with bottle feeding, the cubs get placed in an enclosure next to Emma, and when the time is right, they get to meet her. "We'll open it up, and she takes those kittens in as if they are her absolute own, as if she gave birth to them."

"It's been amazing no matter how many kittens we give her, litter after litter, year after year, she takes them wholeheartedly and immediately starts bathing them and doing all the things that a wild bobcat mom would do," one of her caretakers explains. Thanks to Emma not having any interest in humans at all, the kittens she raises are also raised wild and wary of humans, giving them the best chance at a safe release. "We feed [Emma] every day. She doesn't want to have anything to do with us. She is a wild wild bobcat".

Kindness does not always have to cost a lot of money. Sometimes, it's made of tape, rulers and hot wheels. 

We always say that cats will be cats no matter what. Being different does not stop them from living their best lives all the time. A blind cat will still find a way to do shenanigans. A deaf cat will scream just as loudly as any other cat for his breakfast. My cat? My chonky cat who's been overweight and on diet food basically her whole life does not let that stop her from running at full speed across my stomach in the middle of the night. They don't know that things can be different. They just want to… cat. 

And that is what happened to the beautiful kitten in today's story. He has a spinal injury that prevents him from using his back legs. But that doesn't stop him from wanting to be a cat. So, his caretakers built him a custom wheelchair to help him do that. And they said this: 

"The base around it and the legs do start with cardboard, lots of tape, some zip ties. And then the legs weren't quite strong enough. They kept kind of giving out when he would try and turn, so then I got these rulers for 99 cents and put them there. Hot wheels that are ambulances. I was just trying to figure out a way to keep him standing on his own for a little bit amount of time, but then he was really wanting to play and walk around. So I used what I had, and I kind of built it off how wheelchairs are that we already have at the shelter. They're just not small enough for him because he's just a little guy. I'm very happy with it, and it seems to have brought a lot of joy to the people at the shelter and hopefully some other people as well."

Cats are known to be stubborn creatures, up there with donkeys and middle aged men. So you can imagine that a story about a feral feline who stubbornly rejected hooman efforts to become a cat child, can become quite darn wholesome when the cat finally gives in and learns to love the luxury lifestyle that has been waiting for them.

Feral cats are often discussed amongst the cat lovers who frequently feed the felines in their area. It is a topic of hot debate with many feeling as though feral life is the cats inelieable choice, while others feel that feral cats simply do not know how good the indoor life can be and so sometimes it take a little coaxing to get them to buy into the concept. I cannot say where I stand on this issue as I believe cats are too unique to be put into any kind of categories. But what I do know is that the pawrents in this story were most concerned with being able to continue caring for the cat they had come to love. And seeing as circumstances had changed in a way where being their feral feline would simply no longer work, it was the right move to make to turn this wild cat into a creature of home comfort.

As far as i'm concerned the well being of a cat is mostly within their own purview, but in special cases such as house moves where you know their quality of life will take a drastic turn because you are not there, the regular rules do not apply. Because whether the cat will admit it or not they love you too, and losing you will hurt them as much as you losing them. So while you might not be able to get on all fours and negotiate in native cat to encourage your feline to come along willingly. You can set up as many traps and tarps as possible to capture the catto and bring it with you.

These cats definitely had a My Chemical Romance phase.

Being emo isn't just about wearing black. It's about dramatically staring out the window while the rain falls, acting like nobody understands you, and carrying the weight of the world because breakfast arrived four minutes later than expected. Caring for a newborn kitten is one of the quickest ways to forget what a full night's sleep feels like. The bottles never stop, the laundry somehow multiplies on its own, and every tiny milestone becomes the biggest event of the day. When a kitten is as fragile as Pluto, even gaining a couple extra grams can feel like cause for celebration.

After an incredibly stressful start, Pluto finally gave everyone a reason to breathe a little easier. His latest vet visit brought encouraging news, with the biggest fear, feline parvo, looking much less likely than it did just a few days ago. Instead, this tiny fighter is doing exactly what everyone hoped he would. He's eating, staying hydrated, and slowly putting on weight.

Slowly is the key word here. Pluto is still much smaller than a healthy kitten his age, and nobody's pretending the hard part is over. Rescue kittens have a habit of keeping their humans on their toes. One day brings relief, the next brings fresh worries. That's just part of the journey when you're raising a baby this small.

The weight gain is reason enough to celebrate, but Pluto's personality is starting to shine through, too. He's already claimed a warm blanket and hot water bottle as his favorite sleeping spot, and he's apparently decided his human should never, ever be late with a bottle. Tiny patient, big opinions. We'd expect nothing less from someone nicknamed the Lord of the Underworld.

For now, that's more than enough. A growing appetite, a little extra weight, and a kitten who's comfortable enough to start making a few demands all feel like signs that Pluto is headed in the right direction. We'll happily celebrate every gram, every bottle, and every update until this little guy is big enough to live up to his legendary name.

Every cat lover has a dream cat. This person's dream cat came looking for them.

Most people spend weeks or months checking shelters, scrolling adoption pages, and hoping the perfect match comes along. Every once in a while, though, the Cat Distribution System decides to skip all of that and handle the introduction itself.

That's exactly what happened to one lucky cat lover who had been hoping and praying for a calico. Just a few steps away from home, a tiny calico kitten appeared out of nowhere and immediately started meowing for attention. The little one refused to be ignored, so her future human scooped her up and carried her to their third-floor apartment. She cried the entire way upstairs, almost like she was making sure they didn't change their mind.

The second the apartment door cracked open, the kitten walked right inside without a moment of hesitation. No cautious sniffing. No nervous pause. She acted like she'd already memorized the layout and was finally back where she belonged. That kind of confidence is enough to make anyone wonder if some cats really do choose their people.

Finding any friendly stray is special, but finding the exact kind of cat you'd been wishing for feels almost too perfect to believe. All orange cats have one brain cell - collectively. 

This is something that I have to admit that I did not know before I started writing for ICanHasCheezburger. See, I've never had an orange cat myself. My purrfect little cat was a trashcan kitty when I found her. Just the most regular shmegular cat. I've always loved cats, of course, but I didn't know all the cool things I know about cats now. I didn't know that black cats are meowgical, for example. I didn't know that Sphynx cats look like uncooked chicken and that their owners are so proud of that they share it online all the time. And as I mentioned, I didn't know that all orange cats have one brain cell. And beyond that, it took me a long, long time to realize that we are talking about sharing one single brain cell between all of them. 

But alas, this is something that I not only learned but that I also started noticing in real life. The stray ginger cats that I feed outside seem to always be a little more special, and every time I ask a cat owner of an actual orange cat about this phenomenon, they always agree. Literally always. Their gingers are always adorably unique in some way. And that got me to wondering if all of you guys - our audience - think the same thing as well. So I asked you on our Facebook page to send us the funniest, silliest, derpiest pictures of your beautiful ginger cats being… what they are. Just being gingers. And as always, you did not disappoint even slightly. The pictures you sent us are some of the funniest that I have ever seen, and choosing the few I could put into this collection was the most difficult task in the world. 

Making friends as a cat can be a little bumpy sometimes. 

Adopting a second cat into the family is generally an idea that we support. It means your cat has a friend to spend time with when you are gone for work or on trips. It means there is another creature in the house that your cat can cuddle whenever they want to. Adopting a kitten for your cat means that there is someone they can teach, someone they can show how to commit crimes and do shenanigans. The benefits are endless, and nearly always, when someone asks us whether they should adopt a second cat, we say yes. Except for some times. 

Some cats have a hard time bonding with other cats. They are not used to having to share the attention and affection of their humans. These cats are usually ones who have never known what it means to share space with another, and the idea of it confuses them. It's not because they don't want a friend, and it's not because they can't get along with another animal. They are just kind of- confused about the situation. That's what happened with today's cat. 

All of a sudden, after the family adopted a new kitten, this cat stopped playing, stopped eating, stopped… being the way he always was. His family worried and took him to the vet, and there, they found out the strangest thing, some cats… cat get sad. And their cat was feeling like he was being replaced by the new kitten. It's not that he didn't like the new kitten. He just didn't know how to deal with having to share his humans' time and affection. But it all worked out in the end. After they proved to him just how much he matters, he gave the kitten a real chance, and now, they are best friends. 

To have the purrfect lazy Sunday, you have to start your day with a bunch of purrfect cats.

The mark of a truly lazy Sunday is spending the entire day acting like a cat. Embrace the cattitude. Be a cat. We have to spend the entire day at home without leaving for even one moment. We must enjoy some snacks. And then some more snacks. We must nap, wrapped up in a blanket purrito. Yes, even on a hot summer day like this. That is what air conditioners are for. We must spend the day watching birds through the window and thinking about how pawsome nature is. Without having any real interaction with said nature, of course, because that would take much work. Then we nap again, snack again, possibly have some catnip, and do all of it as many times as we can. That is the meaning of cattitude. 

Sounds like that would be the easiest day in the world, doesn't it? Well, not quite. You see the way that your cats complain about everything and nap every second that they get. Being a cat is hard. It's tiring. So, before doing all of that, you have to start your day on the right paw. For your cats, that might mean waking their owner up by screaming in their face at seven in the morning to get breakfast. For us, it's a little less intense. To be or not to be? To adopt or not to adopt? The pendulum swing of choices will always hang above our heads, we just need to come to a decision at some point. 

We all have choices in our lives. The more choices we have, the harder it is to actually come to any kind of decision. This can be both freeing and constraining, and sometimes a choice can hang over our heads so much that we are consumed with the question, even though we know the outcome won't matter. Like in the story below, a recent college graduate reconciles with the question of whether he should adopt the stray outside his dorms or not. He says the adorable thing has been roaming around his house in the past year, and he's going to be spending his gap year at home, and plans to go to grad school in a few months. He'll be going back and forth and doesn't know if it's the best time to adopt a cat. 

The caveats are thus: first of all, he actually doesn't know if he's allergic. He has had some issues with cat dander in the past, but it isn't consistent. The other issue is that he's been feeding the cat for a year and she always stops by once a day. She is affectionate and loves with he gives her pets. He suspects that someone else is actually feeding her, which makes him question whether he should even take her from someone else. She seems to be more connected to him that the other person though, because she does follow him around more. 

He laments owning a pet at all because it's such a big decision. He's never had a cat and always grew up with dogs, so it would be an adjustment. He also currently has a dog with his parents, so it's another wonder if the dog and cat would be okay together. He's doing the responsible thing by wondering with real issues, instead of being hasty. The lengths people will go for a cat are great, sometimes quite literally, and sometimes when they didn't even know they were about to adopt a cat.

Some people know they're going to adopt a cat - they prepare physically and mentally, getting the house ready and littered with toys, and generally anticipate the arrival of the floofy feline creature home. And then there's the other type of people - the ones who have exactly zero idea they're about to adopt a cat. The cat just sort of appears in their lives one day, as if they were adopting themselves into their human's life. They mostly say it's like the world has congratulated them on having a cat, and simply thrusts said cat right into their hands. But they adopt the cat regardless.

But we can say confidently that this is no chance, and no coincidence - this is the pure and hard work of the Cat Distribution System. This agency, entity, or whatever it is, is working extremely hard, day and night, to assure all cats in need that they're going to the people who will provide them with a forever home that they all so desperately need.

Take this one man, for example - he went to buy a phone but returned home with a cat. If this is not the fateful doing of the CDS, we don't know what is. This kitten was waiting for someone to adopt her, amongst the litter of kittens born in this house. They already had a cat, the one who gave birth, but were trying to find someone who could take the kittens and give them the forever home they need. And it just so happened that the man who would give this one kitten, Pippa, her forever home, came there to… buy a phone.

It really is something else when you go somewhere to get yourself anything, but end up getting another feline friend to add to your family. It's just another common way for cats to get adopted - they simply appear in your life, refuse to leave, and completely steal your heart. And your bed. And your couch. That's the magic of cat adoption, and we love them for it.
