First by managing to get this person out of their work day, something that so many of us dream would happen to us, and then by doing everything possible to make the transition for this kitty from street stray to prince of the house as smooth and seamless as possible. Something that anyone who knows a thing or two about the complications that can happen in cat rescues is a big deal.

After all, a cat who has been dumped with no teeth, getting on in years and with little to no ability to care for itself in the wild is not going to be in decent shape. And as you'll come to see in this story this cat needed a whole heap of help. And in a world with all too much that can go wrong in it, it is stories like this that restore our faith in the ability for things to go right. One rescue turned into something ongoing.

It started after an accident with a stray momma cat, when this hooman found her kittens nearby and took them in. They got the three tiny kittens fixed and adopted, and from then on, they never passed that stretch of road without slowing down. It turned into a habit, always checking, always looking out in case more kittens showed up.

The next summer, it happened again. Another momma cat, another group of orange kittens in the exact same spot. This time they stepped in earlier, left a note by the house, and ended up taking in the whole group to foster them. The kittens were adopted out in pairs, and the mom stayed. At that point it stopped feeling random.

Now it's turned into something bigger. They checked back in and found even more unspayed cats, so they started bringing them in to get fixed, a few at a time. It's not just helping when something happens anymore, it's trying to stop it from happening again.

And then it clicked. The same bright blue eyes keep showing up. The same orange markings. It's all coming from the same line of cats, just new litters over time. This hooman been helping the same family again and again without even realizing it at first.

Nothing makes you question everything faster than trying to do your taxes.

Tax season hits and suddenly these cats are acting like they've got everything under control. Papers spread out, serious face on, sitting right in the middle of it all like they're about to get things done. It looks convincing for about ten seconds.

They start off trying. One paw on a paper, a focused look, like they're about to figure something out. Then the confusion sets in. The same paper gets looked at again, like maybe it'll make more sense the second time. It doesn't. Now they're just sitting on it like that's helpful.

Nothing is where it should be. Important papers are mixed with nothing papers, and somehow everything ends up under the cat. The calculator disappears, pens go missing, and the whole setup slowly turns into a mess without anything actually getting done.

They still keep the same energy though. Walking across the keyboard like that's progress, hitting random keys, fully committed to whatever they think is happening. Very confident, no idea what they're doing.

In the end, nothing is finished, everything is more confusing than before, and the cat looks completely drained from the effort. Nothing may have gotten done, but they still expect a refund. 

Most cats enjoy people watching… behind a sealed glass window and from the safety of their homes.

Every cat owner knows that time of day when their fluffy felines make their way to the windowsill, get comfortable in front of the glass, and sit there for hours on end. They start the activity by inspecting who comes and goes, listening to the birds, and watching for anyone who may pass the house. Then, they nap under the warm sunlight, and when they wake, they go right back to their close inspection of everything that happens on the other side of the window.

They don't wave, they don't try to catch any attention, they simply sit there in peace and watch the world go by.

We're sure that if you were to ask your cats if they would do anything different about this activity, they wouldn't want to change a thing. That is why we are also sure that if you were to suggest to your cat to embark on this activity by actually going outside and viewing the world without the window in between, their answer would be a firm no.

Some cats enjoy the great outdoors, others hate it with their entire hearts. It is up to their pawrents to know their preferences and to act accordingly. The 22-year-old cat owner in the story below, for example, knows for a fact that her cat, Lily, is an indoor cat with no intention of being outdoors. According to her pawrent, Lily likes to watch people from the window, but she doesn't want any interaction with them, and Lily's mom has no problem with that.

The 22-year-old's neighbors, however, seem to want that to change. As soon as their 4-year-old son saw Lily sitting at her usual spot by the window, he insisted that he wanted to meet her. Smooshing your cat on the forehead and petting them until they purr in your lap brings about the kind of pure, unfiltered happiness that humanity craves. No career or white-picket-fenced house will bring about this kind of softness in your soul. Cats, however, with all of their cuteness, floof, and whiskers, will always make humans feel more positive, more balanced, and genuinely uplifted. 

Even the scraggly strays on the street have a way of melting our hearts. With full-bodied meows and feisty personalities, stray cats are sometimes more charming than the felines we have at home (don't tell my cat I said that). Attempting to sway feeble cat lovers into scooping them up and giving them a furrever home inside, stray cats work their magic on every passerby in the hopes of winning the kitty lottery and becoming a beloved house pet. 

Alas, it's the indoor kitties who really have it all. 

Basking in the love and affection of the entire family, cats relax in absolute certainty, knowing that they are safe and will be cozy and cuddled for the rest of their nine lives. Have you ever had that kind of 100% certainty? 

Cats trust that their humans will come through and protect them, so maybe we humans need to take a page out of the kitty happiness handbooks and simplify our lives, looking around at our favors and positive meowments of the day to bask in them. It's this mindful wholesomeness that really makes people happy; that and the reciprocated companionship of a fluffy feline who loves to snuggle and sleep in on the weekend just like we do. 

Sometimes, cats don't just adopt their humans. They adopt our dogs too. 

We think that at this point, everyone can agree that cats adopt their humans rather than the other way around, right? We have seen too many examples. It is rare at this point, for us to hear a story about someone actually walking into a shelter to get a cat. It's always the cat finding them in some strange place instead. 

And cats really do spawn in some silly places. We have seen everything from stories about cats just walking into people's houses one day and… staying, without warning, questions or asking for permission. We have seen cats jump into people's cars as people are just going on about their days. We have even written about a kitten flying through someone's window and into their lap. Don't know how it happened exactly. We just know that it did, and when it did, the person's first thought was that they had a cat now and had to go shopping for supplies. 

Of course, when our cats adopt us, they don't just adopt us. Oftentimes, we are a package deal. Sometimes, they adopt our partners by proxy. They don't have to bond with them as much as they bond with us, but they have to be okay with them living in the house too. That's the deal. And sometimes, they adopt our pets as well. 

Usually, it is a process. The cat adopts the human, the human takes them home, and there, the cat is surprised to find another furry creature that they have to share the love with. Maybe they become friends right away, maybe it takes them a while to warm up to one another. Eventually, it happens, but it doesn't often start that way.

In today's videos though, the kitten knew exactly what she was getting into from the get-go. She sensed her future human, ran out to find him, and ran straight into his two golden retrievers as well. And she still chose to follow them home and become a part of their family. Because it was meant to be. 

We all wish for a snuggly cat, but is there such a thing as a cat who likes cuddling too much?

Everyone who adopts a cat has one thought in their mind louder than any other, and that is that they wish, with all of their heart, for their cat to be a velcro cat. We know, of course, that it's relatively rare for a cat to be like that. Cats like their space. They like their privacy. They like choosing when and where to cuddle, and more often than not, they choose it rarely. It is an honor for a cat to cuddle their human. 

Velcro cats are different. They are the kind of cats who want to cuddle all the time. They will approach you on the couch, in bed, when you're on your computer or in the bathroom. Anytime, anywhere, they would enjoy your love. It's like winning the cat lottery. Everyone wants it. Or so we thought. We have never thought that there could be such a thing as a cat who wants to cuddle too much? Were we wrong? 

Life is cat-astrophic sometimes. That is what cat memes are for. For a little more meowgnificence in our lives. 

When we, as cat people, face the beginning of another workday, something in us wakes up. Something extra cat-like. The need to nap is overpowering. We feel as if we, just like cats, could fall asleep right on top of our cereal bowl. We want to stay in bed, wrap up tight in our blankets, and literally never leave unless someone offers us food. Because life can be a little hard to deal with sometimes. But that is what cat memes are for. 

The solution for the workday blues really is as simple as giggling at a bunch of funny cat memes first thing in the morning. They might not repel your desire to nap, but they will make getting out of bed just a little bit easier. Hey, a smile is all that it takes sometimes. We like to think that humanity as a whole is good, but all of these cat abandonment stories are pushing that theory to the limit. While a lack of education about the responsibilities of owning a pet might have been something relevant in the past, we're past the point of giving people that excuse in 2026. Humanity has never been more informed about every topic on Earth than right now, especially with most people having access to AI on their smartphones. So if it's not a lack of knowledge, what is it?

Purrsonally, we think it's a lack of empathy. By convincing ourselves that it's going to work out and then focusing on our other problems, we release ourselves from the responsibility for our actions by keeping them out of sight and out of mind. This is the opposite of what Gandhi meant by being "humane" - extending kindness to others and showing compassion to others, even animals. Making mistakes is part of being human, but abandoning a cat is no mistake. Just like the tiny black kitten that got abandoned in PetCo yesterday.

While shopping for something for her cat's birthday (adorable) at PetCo, a cat pawrent witnessed a man opening up a cat carrier and literally dumping his black kitten in the middle of the aisle. She alterted the staff, who, fortunately, were able to get the poor kitty to safety and set up for adoption. We hope she finds a home with someone who actually appreciates her.

To all of you out there who are thinking about adopting a cat for yourselves or because your kids won't stop asking you for one, please remember that these cats and kittens are living creatures with feelings. They may not speak the same language as we do, but they understand safety, abandonment, and loneliness. They might survive, but they will never forget. 

We're going insane, anyone want anything?

We didn't work the corporate life until we were in our 30s. Before we started writing for I Can Has Cheezburger, we were artists, and not quite the starving kind. However, it came time for a change, and we decided to root ourselves down and get a company job for some stability. The transition from making our own schedule and being our own boss to working in an office was quite the culture shock.

The daily commute, the monotony of doing nearly the same thing day in and day out, and the constant reminding people to wash their own dishes in a shared kitchen were things we never expurrienced before. We still have a lot of creativity throughout our days here at I Can Has Cheezburger, as we get to write about whatever we want (as long as it's cat-related), but it's a far cry from rehearsing for a performance and then getting up on stage. Boring isn't the right word, but repetitive is. We used to never do the same thing twice, and now, we do almost the same thing every day.

This is what we call "the grind". It's getting up and doing your best at nearly the same tasks you did yesterday, and the same tasks you'll do tomorrow… and the same tasks you'll do next week and every week after. Luckily, there are some helpful escapes from the purrfectly cyclical environment of your cubicle, and one of the ones we love the most is scrolling through cat memes. They remind us of our awwdorable kitties at home, they make our online expurrience better, and most impurrtantly, they make us smile.

Nobody will know if you take a few minutes for yourself to give yourself a healthy giggle break. We all need our little escapes, and everyone copes in different ways. Ours just happens to be filled with purrfectly cute cats.

Hide and seek with cats quickly turns into a game you can't win. 

Cats treat hide and seek like a competitive sport, and they are absolutely catvinced they are winning every time. The rules are simple: they hide, you seek, and somehow they still think they are invisible even when half their tail is sticking out. It is less about actually hiding and more about the purrsuit of chaos.

They take their hiding spots very seriously. Boxes, behind curtains, inside cabinets, or somehow wedged into places that should not physically fit a cat. It is all part of their master plan. Meanwhile, you are walking around calling their name while they sit perfectly still, convinced their stealth skills are impawccable.

The real twist is when they decide to switch roles mid-game. Suddenly, they are the seeker, stalking you with exaggerated slow steps like a tiny predator on a mission. One second you are looking for them, the next they are pouncing on your ankle like they just completed a full hunt.

Of course, they always act like they nailed it. Whether they were fully hidden or just loafing in plain sight, the confidence never changes. In their minds, they outsmarted you completely.

He got adopted and instantly became the main character.

Mouse got adopted and immediately brought peak orange cat energy into his new home. One day he didn't have a place, and now he's fully settled in, acting like he's always been there. He didn't ease into it either, just showed up, claimed his spot, and made himself comfortable right away.

He's exactly what you'd expect from an orange cat. Sweet, curious, a little clueless, but completely lovable. No attitude, no edge, just constant purring, cuddles, and wanting to be near his person at all times. Even purring in his sleep like he's that happy just existing. He's not trying to impress anyone, he's just like that.

And you can tell how much it means to his owner. Not in a big dramatic way, just in how much joy he's clearly added to everyday life. Everything feels lighter, calmer, better.

When the world gets to be too much and you just want to disassociate and hide, there are not too many places you can go. But thanks to these cute cats, we now have the purrfect hiding spot that has been sitting in the corner of your house all along…

Ok, we cannot say that hiding in a bag can actually help you hide from the world. To begin with most of us hooman would struggle to fit into any kind of standard bag, even the giant Ikea ones. But mostly because there is no holding back the rising tide of responsibilities. At one point or another we are all going to have to face up to the things that we have to get done and the situations that we have put ourselves in.

But for the next few moments, we are going to be putting all of that on hold to indulge in the delight of cats hiding in bags so that we can live vicariously through them, imagining that we too have the ability to hide from the worries and woes of the world by putting our heads in a bag…those lucky cat children.
 

It was always known that cats are mysterious creatures, but we didn't realize just how much meowstery they bring into our lives. Just think of the scenario that you might already be a pawrent to two cat siblings, inseparable, living their best famioly life under your roof. And then, out of nowhere, a third stray with adoption pawtential appears in the same spot you adopted your previous cats from. And on top of that, this newcomer looks suspiciously just like the other two adoptees, who live the current comfy indoor cat life. That's exactly what happened to this pet-friendly family, who plans to gain the trust of the third sibling, and adopt him as well.

Hey you. Yes, you. The gamer with the cat who stole their entire lap, while you make yet another Khajiit character to start yet another Skyrim playthrough. Exactly you. We know what you're thinking - there are not enough hours in the world to play Skyrim, to listen to its amazing gaming soundtrack on repeat, and to spend time with your favorite feline family member. So while you're at it, and by "at it" we mean looking for Khajiit memes to fill the time until you start the 207th playthrough, let us recommend some games where you actually get to play a cat for real.

The best cat game of recent years is definitely Stray, the third-person adventure where you navigate a neon-lit robot city, solving puzzles to find your family. Another one that we absolutely love is Night in the Woods, where you play as a cat named Mae in a narrative-driven adventure exploring a decaying town. Then there's Little Kitty, Big City, the cute and cozy, physics-based game focused on causing mischief in a city while trying to find your way home.

If you play as a cat, you both game and spend some cat-time. And, of course, your cat will always be on your lap while you game. That's just the law of having a cat if you're a gamer. The cat sees an open lap - the cat conquers said lap. Just as you would conquer all of Tamriel if you could (a full Elder Scrolls strategy game when?).

This type of mantra is sure to brighten your mood, motivate your day, and make life all the more manageable. Now that spring is here and so very present, we can take it as a gift (pun intended). The sun kisses us in all sorts of ways; it doesn't just manifest as freckles on our skin, or as lines on our faces (yes, they're beautiful!). It also could be in the soft and serene smile of a cat. A cat that is smiling in the sunshine, smiling and appreciative of the life he has, appreciative of the weather brightening and lighting his soul.
