The life of an artist is hard enough, but the life of an artist cat parent is even harder.

You don't know to what extent people have to go just to have a cat live at home with them. People think having a cat is easy, because they're "independent" or something. These people have clearly never had a cat for once in their lives. Cats are extremely social, and this "independent" bullsheep is an ignorant stereotype. That's why every time a cat pawrent takes on a new hobby or activity, the household cat takes it upon themselves to be part of the process and participate. Just ask any artist - which is exactly what artists on wetcanvas talked about.

It's a question as old as time (or at least as old as humanity domesticated cats) - how do we get them off our art supplies? Artists were helping other artists here, advising on the realm of paint and pets - but as we've said, this isn't a pawblem that artists deal alone with. Just take a look at a guitarist with a cat who worries about his gear, because even here, cats tend to take over the hobby. But they only do it because they love you and want to be part of whatever you do. That's wholesome.

Luckily for us, cat people, the online feline family is a worldwide source of cat knowledge filled with people who are always willing to help. Seriously, cat people are some of the nicest people. Also, they love sharing cat advice online because they know it'll also help another cat in the world. How to build a catio, how to train cats on leash walks, how to care for an abandoned kitten - the online cat community is already ready with answers.

But now? Let's focus on the artists among us.

Why do we love to squish our cats so much?

It's almost a given that all cat people would love to squeeze their cats, giving them a big bear hug like they have a chiropractor appointment. Sure, we all want to squish our cats because we love our cats, but that's not a detailed enough answer. Cat people don't just stop and think about why we all love to squish our floofy feline friends, they just go and squish the fluff out of them.

But the fact that we don't think about it doesn't mean there's no real answer, based on science and research. Did you think we were going to give it to you right meow? Kittens are simply adorable. There's really not a person on earth who you tell you kittens aren't cute. Not just because they're so ubiquitously cute, but because probably the person would be afraid of the kitten planning some sort of revenge. Kittens aren't just cute, they want to be cute. They know they're cute and have power over us; we look at them like they're the most innocent of creatures, and in a way they are. But in another way they're all knowing about their affect on us and therefore can be…manipulative. It's not in a bad or evil way, it's completely normal with the state of their cuteness. 

Love is definitely in the air when kittens are involved. In fact, kittens might be one of nature's most successful examples of emotional persuasion. They arrive in the world impossibly tiny, equipped with oversized eyes, squeaky little meows, and an uncanny ability to make fully grown adults abandon all logic the moment they appear. And somehow, they know it. You can see it in the way a kitten dramatically rolls onto its back the second it wants attention. Or how it stares at you with those enormous eyes after committing a minor crime, like knocking a plant onto the floor or sprinting across your keyboard in the middle of an important email. A kitten somehow manages to be both the culprit and the victim in every situation.

Could you imagine adopting a cat when your husband has cat allergies? That's exactly what this woman does in the story below. 

When you find a wild tortoise shell cat screaming on a pile of wood in your yard, you know it's a message from the universe. Take it from the woman who wrote in Reddit's r/torties about the brazen kitten she now calls Acer. It was last September, she was sitting on the pile of wood. She started visiting the yard as a young kitten. The woman's maternal instincts kicked in, and she felt that Acer was much too young to be wandering the streets alone. She initially thought she was someone else's pet but she wasn't. She thought she was pregnant as well, and took her to the vet. Despite the fact that her partner has allergies, she took the cat in. Acer is now living with them as an indoor cat. She's going to build Acer a patio. Read the full wholesome story below, and enjoy! If you like cat stories and you like cats, then here's your chance!

These cats prove that every space is cat space. Cats have this special talent of fitting into impossible spots where no one expected to find them, and still look at you like you are the weird one questioning it. Nobody knows how they got here, but they did. There is never any explanation and never any regret. Only cats sitting in awkward places know why they do what they do.

Cats don't see obstacles. They see opportunities. A tall shelf is an invitation, a narrow container is an exciting challenge, and if you leave your washer's door open, they might want to inspect how well it's working while you're out of the room. Every ordinary household object deserves a cat's exploration.

Scardy cat? Or just a neighborhood grey cat? 

The person here first met this little guy at the end of September 2025. He tells Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem that on the day he got his keys to his new house he saw this grey cat jumping onto the roof. He assumed it was the neighbor's cat passing by. Over time, he noticed the cat has been showing up in the backyard almost every single day, just happily chilling there as if it was his own. The person also assumed the cat was a stray because his coat was matted and rough, and he sometimes looked quite dirty. He also noticed how weary of people the cat was, and it always went on hyperalert mode when someone came up to it. 

Although the cat was clearly skittish, they made progress together. He's in Melbourne, and the winter weather is here, which means the cat is less comfortable outside. He left some food for the cat to see if he would eat it. Then he got home from work and noticed the bowl was completely empty! He checked the security footage and was the little grey thing. He started leaving food every single day. Then he chose to kick things into action: he saw the grey thing hiding in darkness quietly watching him through the window while he did the dishes. He turned on the backyard lights and prepared some food and water. He went back inside and closed the window. The cat slowly approached the bowl, and dug in, the human sat about a foot away and watched, staying low and trying not to scare the grey. When the cat was done, the two just stared at each other. For those who may not know, this is an act of trust building in the cat world. They were really having a moment when suddenly the neighbor blasts music, but the human knows the two have made progress, and the cat probably feels more welcome in the neighborhood now. Hopefully one day he'll be posting that the cat is officially his! 

He even made a DIY Styrofoam bed and shelter for the grey thing. He's just happy the cat went from bolting every time to staying and spending time together.

From Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem, this person tells the story of how they got Walter, a stripped little kitten. He received a notification from his camera system that there was movement in the garage. He lives in California, so it could really be anything. Then he sees in the camera this little fluffy guy walking towards the dog's food bowl. He snuck outside, blocked off the open side of the garage and tried to find the kitten. He left a door open into the house in case the kitten wanted to run in there. Two hours go by and this guy's been running around. He takes a break and goes inside, and when he looks at the camera again he sees that the little guy has now gone in the opposite direction toward the standup fridge and freezer. 

He knows the kitten is too small to set off the trap, but he ties a string to the trap door and ran it out the window on the other side. He then set up a camera pointed towards the trap so he could know when it was inside. An hour later, the kitten was inside eating again and this time the guy could pull the string and get him. He got him into the house and into a two story kennel ready for fosters (in case the cat distribution system blesses him). Meet Walter! He thinks that maybe the kitten is separated from his mom, but he plans on making the rest of their lives happy and together.

And sometimes it's a daring cat rescue mission, a thrilling saga. And this one? It's all in one. But the most impawrtnat thing is that the kitten is now with his forever family.

Men come and go like the rain, and cats will only leave you if you leave the door open. So really, the cat leaving is on you. But regardless of our cats trying to escape a literal indoor paradise that we painstakingly built for them with 100% of our own money, there is no excuse for cheating in a relationship. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Cero.

After finding out that her husband had an affair last week, our pawrent posted in a pawpular subreddit called r/Cats, which is basically a giant community of cat lovers and owners sharing their love for their fluffy felines. She admitted to her husband's infidelity, submitted some pics of her cats, and she was met with the most wholesome response from her fellow feline fans. Not only did they share pictures of their own cute kitties (which no doubt cheered her up, at least a little bit), but they also encouraged her to leave him and take the cats.

If you're not here for the feisty (and fluffy) felines, then at the very least, give this article a good scroll for her. She cut out the bad in her life and is now left with all that's good - her courage, her life, and her cats.

These kitties are bringing purride, personality, and a little bit of chaos into June.

June is officially here, which means it is time for Pride Month and these kitties are absolutely ready to celebrate. Tiny rainbow bandanas, colorful bowties, sparkly collars, and maximum cattitude all around. Cats already spend most of the year confidently being their weird little selves, so Pride energy fits them perfectly.

Nothing feels more wholesome than seeing pets included in Pride celebrations too. Little rainbow accessories somehow make every cat look even more iconic than usual. Whether they are lounging dramatically on Pride flags, sitting proudly beside their pawrents, or accidentally causing rainbow-colored chaos around the house, these kitties are clearly celebrating in style this month.

This family set out for an event and came home with a kitten instead.

Stories like this are exactly why people on Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit swear cats somehow appear in the right place at the right time. This family was driving three hours away for an event when the dad suddenly spotted a tiny kitten on the side of the road and pulled over. What started as a normal drive immediately turned into a rescue mission for one very smol passenger named Gizmo.

The family spent the next several hours trying to figure out how to help him. They called multiple shelters along the way, but none were able to take him in or they were already closed. Instead of giving up, they drove another extra hour out of town just so Gizmo could get checked at an urgent vet clinic. That kind of effort for such a tiny kitten says a lot about the people who found him.

Thankfully Gizmo turned out healthy, playful, and very easy to fall in love with. At only five weeks old and 1.3 pounds, he was already using the litter box perfectly, cuddling everybody, giving kisses, and acting completely comfortable in his new home. Rescue kittens always seem to figure out safety surprisingly fast once they realize they are finally cared for.

Once Gizmo got a name and started cuddling the family, there was no chance he was leaving. He really found the perfect people to stop for him.

We love our dogs, but they would sell us out for a spoonful of peanut butter. So, it must not have been hard for the Cat Distribution System to bribe them to let this wild "bobcat" in to safely deliver her litter in peace.

Why do people get cats? Because they want to live with a furry roommate who bosses them around all the time and occasionally likes to snuggle. That's pretty much the only reason. But there are many reasons why people adopt dogs.

In the past, people adopted dogs for safety and survival. Dogs used to help their owners hunt and protect them from dangers trying to enter their territory. Now, our doggos are about as useful for safety as a fork is for eating soup. They are great companions and purrfectly lovable, but they're not going to bark at an intruder - they're going to present him with their favorite toy and ask for belly rubs. 

The doggos in this post from Reddit's r/Millennials subreddit just verifies our claim. Their pawrent came home to find her puppers lazily lying on the bed, while she heard a choir of tiny meows coming from underneath her bed. Normally, an animal lover would be thrilled to find a litter free kittens, but there was only one problem: she didn't own a cat.

There was another pawtential problem that she didn't want to test: there is a big bobcat population in her area, so there is a chance that it wasn't any normal cat that chose her room as their nursing area. It could be a wild bobcat.

There is a reason why cats always have and always will rule the internet, and that is simply because every single cat picture in the world makes us smile. 

Cats rule the internet. Even people who claim not to like cats know this for the fact that it is. Cats on the internet have an effect on people like nothing else does. It's funny cat videos that go viral each and every day. It's silly cat memes that are on every single corner of every single platform online. It could be heartwarming cat stories that grab people's attention and get straight into their hearts every single day. All of these things have the same effect on us. All of these things distract us from the real world and make us smile. 

The person who posted these silly pictures of her tuxedo cat did it with the express hope that seeing these pictures will make people smile at least a hint of how much they make her smile. She didn't realize that this was a given. She also could never have known just how many people on the internet would see these images and have their frowns turn upside down in a single moment.

They say that cats come to us from surprising places. Well, in this story the place that these kittens are found in is not so surprising, however, they sheer quantity of kittens found, well that is.

In the stories we usually come across on Reddit's r/cats subreddit you might expect to come upon a box filled with at most 6 tiny helpless kittens. The modest size of litter that sends most hooman pawrents into a tisy trying to figure out what to do with the unplanned for children. And while this is bad enough in itself it is no match for the 12 kittens that this cat mom found soaked by the rain.

It must have been quite the sorry sight to see so many feline lives left to expire like that, but now that this pawrent had seen it, there was no turning back. She knew that it was her responsibility to ensure the safety and health of each and every one of those dozen kittens and that is exactly what she did. Enlisting her partner to run round the clock care and eventually find the purrfect furever home for each kitten in their clan. It is impressive when an organized rescue manages to pull something like this off. So for a couple of cat lovers to do is truly mindblowing. 
 

How far are you willing to go to earn a cat's trust?

We've always believed that it's much easier to trust a cat person because cat lovers understand what it takes to earn a cat's trust, and they are willing to play the long game in order to do so. A cat person knows how important it is to respect the furry feline's boundaries and has no issue with patiently waiting for the feline to open up. They know how rewarding it will be at the end, and they will wait for it for as long as it takes.

That is why, when someone tells us they are a cat person, we know we can count on them. We know how far they will go to earn our trust and eventually… our love.

The cat rescuer explained what it was like to earn the trust of the cat he met in an empty junkyard, and what it was like to finally become close enough to the sweet feline so he could get him out.

A hungry cat knows exactly how to catnipulate hoomans. Some meow dramatically, others rub against your legs every time you open the fridge, and others literally beg for it. Yes, it's an actual performance. And a very convincing one. They plead for food, lifting both of their paws. Don't believe me? What would you do if you accidentally stole a cat?

We've seen some hissterical feline mixups in our time as writers for I Can Has Cheezburger. Pawrents thinking their lost cat has come home, only to realize that it's not "their" cat at all, twin-like cats getting adopted by the opposite family, etc. But this story takes the cake, or should we say, the "troublepuffs".

Minh, the feline foster mom, documented her hilarious story in Reddit's r/Cats subreddit for all of us cat connoisseurs to giggle at. She heartwarmingly opened her house to a mama cat and her two kittens until they could find homes for them. When she went to pick them up at the shelter, "mama cat" did not want to be touched, so she just let her get into the traveling carrier without much thought.

This is the vet visit every cat owner fears. 

Every cat finds their pawrent in a different way. Some walk up and choose you, some you meet in a shelter, and others you have to work to gain their trust. Sunny, the cat in Minh's story from Reddit's r/Pets subreddit, chose the latter. She was a stray cat that wasn't very trusting of anyone or anything. It took Minh months to gain her trust, even just enough to trap her. She didn't do it for no reason, winter was coming and Minh knew she wouldn't be able to survive alone. 

Sunny didn't make it easy for her. She didn't like her new indoor life. She hid from Minh whenever she entered the room. But like all cats, with love and patience, she started opening up. One night, she decided to trust again, and from then on, Sunny and Minh were inseparable. It's a love story that's purrfectly superious to Romeo & Juliet, if you ask us.

And then, it happened.

She took Sunny to the vet, and got the worst diagnosis her vet had seen in 20 years. Sunny suffered from hyperthyroidism, and without intervention, their time together would be cut dramatically short. She posted Sunny's story hoping to hear from others who have gone through the journey they were about to embark on. 

These are the words that every pawrent has nightmares over. Of feeling powerless, of having no control over your baby's future. The scary feeling that everything you worked so hard for was about to be taken from you, unfairly.

But there is one thing we know for sure: Cats are resilient creatures, and they thrive when they are loved. If Minh stays by Sunny's side and loves her like we know she will, we're pawsitive that they will pull through. Together. And for many more years to come.
