A terrified feral kitten turned into the office cuddle manager.

A few months ago, a tiny feral kitten moved under a shed at a workplace and treated every hooman like a threat. She panicked if anyone moved too fast and swiped at hands that tried to refill her bowl. The goal at first was just to keep her fed through winter. Adoption wasn't realistic since this rescuer already sensitive rescue cats at home, and trapping her failed, so the coworkers agreed to share the job. Everyone took turns feeding her and making sure she had a safe place to hide.

Then one day she changed. A photo showed up in the work group chat of the kitten climbing all over a coworker and pressing her face into his shoulder like she'd always belonged there. It looked like a completely different cat. When her usual feeder came back from vacation, she was shy for about five minutes, then decided cuddling was more important than caution. Now she pauses mid-meal to demand pets, purring so hard it interrupts her eating.

Even as the weather warms up, she's still glued to people. She's become the unofficial work cat, complete with indoor shelter, multiple cuddle breaks a day, and a food budget approved as pest control. The team has even pooled money for a vet visit. A kitten who once lived under a shed now runs the place on affection, and nobody seems to mind.

Kittens are undeniably cute. Their classically cute look, such as big eyes and ears, is the center of their being. Speaking of classics, Plato is up there as classic next to kittens, but in a different way. He's one of the most influential philosophers in Western history. His work spaced how people think about knowledge, reality, ethics, and politics. He's classically Greek, a student of Socrates, and teacher of Aristotle. One of his classic philosophical thoughts was his theory of Forms. He argued that the physical world is only a shadow of a higher, more purrfect reality. He claimed that concepts like beauty, justice, and trust exist as eternal, unchanging Forms, while the objects we encounter in everyday life are imperfect copies of these ideals. This idea is the skeleton of what makes up his Allegory of the Cave, in which prisoners mistake shadows on the wall for reality, but they're unaware of the fuller truth beyond their limited perspective. The allegory remains one of philosophy's most important metaphors for ignorance, education, and enlightenment. We live in an ostentatious world void of higher truths, but cats don't. 

Plato also wrote a lot on ethics and the nature of the good life. We all know where he was going with this…cats! He believed that true happiness comes not from pleasure or wealth, but from acquiring virtue, wisdom, and cats. He believed the soul had different parts: reason, spirit, and appetite, and a good life is one that balances these (along with having cats). 

The best thing about Plato is his work in The Republic. He argues his vision of an ideal state ruled by "philosopher-kings." They are leaders who govern not for personal gain, but out of understanding the commitment to the common good, like cats. Kittens are pertinent to learning proper classics like Plato, Nietzsche, or Aristotle. Without this fundamental truth that kittens hold in their cuteness, there's no learning about anything else, and no growing in terms of these things. Kittens are really the cutest things, and these kittens below are sure to cheer you up. 

When you see an animal in need, don't wait, don't ask, just save them. 

It's beyond cruel to think that a cat or other animal can exist outside in the depths of winter. In minus 10 degree weather, even an "outdoor cat," or "barn cat" can't survive. The woman in the story sees her neighbor's cat outside, and the weather news is increasingly dismal. There were several warnings about not letting animals outside, even outdoor pets. People were also not completely safe from these weather warnings. She politely goes to her neighbor and relays the information from the news that pets shouldn't be outside. The neighbor reassures her that she can be outside and will be fine since she's a barn cat. The woman can see the cat suffering – she makes her move. She calls the cat's name in the cold, and the cat comes running. Immediately the cat is at ease. They snuggle up under the covers together, she feeds her Fancy Feast and rotisserie chicken. The cat is purrfectly happy and at ease, and the woman is too. Even after several days, the real owner doesn't say anything or claim her. 

Not everyone can afford to work in this life, and so in some cases cats have had to step in and help their pawrents financially by getting jobs themselves. These are their stories and professions.

Yeah, we know, it is rather surprising. The same creatures who often look like they would not lift a paw to save their own mother have started taking an interest in holding down jobs to support their pawrents. Now some might argue that this is not an altruistic endeavor as we are making it out to be, and that their desire to help comes from wanting to keep the money for themselves to stay stocked up on their favorite feline food.

And such thinking would not be specifically wrong in any way, in fact it would be largely right. But just as there are those cats who go crazy for cuddles, it is not too difficult to imagine that there would be some cats out there who would be more than willing to go to work so make sure their pawrents have the life they deserve. 

When you're chosen by the CDS, it's basically the universe showering you with the best gift - a cat.

Some people don't expect it, some people wait for it for years, and some people randomly find a kitten in a busy parking lot - but the Cat Distribution System always watches, always searches for that next person to be the forever home to a cat in need. And this kitten did indeed find what he was looking for - even if his hooman pawrents didn't know it yet. But sitting under a cat, screaming at the top of your tiny lungs, means the CDS spirit dwelled inside him - and thus, he was about to be adopted, like all cats deserve.

But one of our favorite things about this kitten adoption is not just the daring chance the hoomans took on such a young kitten, who still needed bottle feedings - it was the name they chose. Naming a cat is no simple task sometimes, but we think this caring couple had every intention when they named this tiny floof Prince. Sure, they might just love the iconic musician, but we think giving this name to a kitten is a message to the universe - this cat will live like royalty, despite the shaky beginning of his life. Literally from rags to riches.

Cats will cat, humans will human, and cats will always win.

Not that there's any fight between cats and humans - on the contrary, we love that cats love us so much, because we adore these floofy feline kings and queens. But when you want to just do whatever you want, with no one stopping you, no schedules colliding, no restrictions from society - you might as well become a cat. Because cats do whatever they want, and no one can tell them to stop. Cats will cat, all day long, every day, for as long as they wish.

And us? We, mere humble hoomans, can only look with awe, admiration, and a tinge of jealousy - and wish we had the freedom cats have. Cats can nap whenever they want, play whenever they want, and no boss, parent, or a mean neighbor would tell them "No". Because we're humans, we're bound by the threads of society. But cats? Cats are doing the cat thing and just don't give a meow about what anyone else is thinking. They just know that their desires are more impawrtant than anything else.

Even cat memes are better than all other forms of internet comedy. And if we were cats, we wouldn't even feel the need to prove that statement. But we're only human - so here they are, the funniest felines for today.

Did you know that a cat can get pregnant roughly every 2-3 weeks during her heat? Now do you understand why there are so many stray cats wandering the streets? She was abandoned by neighbors earlier this year and wandered the streets looking for a kind soul to take her in. But, as the CDS would have it, she found one at just the right meowment. She found a cat lover who let her inside, and within a week, she climbed up onto their lap and started birthing her kittens.

She made six healthy kittens, but only one had a tail! The tailless gene in cats comes with some undesirable symptoms, so it's crucial that this new pawrent will take these kittens to the vet to get them checked up ASAP. But for now, they're all safe at home, enjoying their littermates, momma, and new hooman. 

This is a classic "be careful what you wish for" kind of situation. When you ask for some more feline energy in your life, the CDS might just hear you and bring you a pregnant kitty that brings you more cute kitten energy than you could ever hope for (or prepare for).

Kumbali, the cheetah cub, was losing weight and his caretakers stepped in to provide 24/7 support, but this also became a double-edged sword. Cheetahs can become anxious when they lack the proper social support system they normally have from their litters and mother, both of which Kumabli was lacking. He needed a miracle, and one showed up with four legs, a wagging tail, and the need to make a lifelong friend.

It's not uncommon knowledge that cheetahs are anxious animals. We've all seen the cute headlines or pictures of a full-grown cheetah lying next to a dog that is, quite literally, its emotional support animal. This concept has been around since it was introduced by the San Diego Zoo in the 1980s. But that has been the extent of our knowledge of this unique and adorable relationship… until now. In 2015, the Richmond Zoo publicized the story of their uniquely adorable friendship between Kumbali, a struggling and lonely cheetah cub, and his now lifelong best friend, Kago, a rescue puppy who healed him.

Kumbali was lacking the proper socialization a young cheetah cub needs from his litter or mother. He was isolating himself and almost stopped eating entirely. The staff thought he needed a confident partner in life to raise his spirits, so they introduced him to Kago. At first, their relationship was a little rocky, but then something incredible happened. Where there was fear, it was replaced with curiosity. Where there was avoidance, they found companionship. And it started to look more and more consistent day after day.

Even as Kumbali aged and his instincts matured, and as Kago became an adult dog, their relationship never changed. They still play despite the overwhelming difference between them. They kept choosing each other, day after day, and the two couldn't be happier.

The pair became widely popular on the internet not just because they were cute, but because their relationship was real. It was authentic love between two wildly different animals. Kumbali and Kago show us that our differences are not something that should spread us apart, but allow us the opportunity to build bridges for greater understanding, depth, and love.

Rescued big cats can still have amazing, fulfilling lives, even when being released into the wild is not an option. 

Releasing a rescued big cat back into the wild is always the goal. It's the thing that we hope for the most. We hope that the majestic creature we rescued will come out the other end stronger, healthier, and still weary enough of humans to be able to go back into the wild and thrive. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. Sometimes, these cats are too sick. Other times, they're too close to humans. And sometimes, they simply never learned how to live in the wild, so they can't. 

We've seen it before - these situations where big cats can't be released on their own for fear of their safety. And what we have learned from these situations is that this does not mean that they cannot live happy, fulfilling lives. They just need to find new joys, a new purpose. We have seen a rescued bobcat who was dropped on its head as a kitten find out that his favorite toy is fennel and live his best life getting fennel as a gift from all his fans. We've seen lion born with a rare disorder befriend a dachshund, becoming so close to him that even when the lion was older, his caretakers decided that separating the two will do more harm than good. We have seen a bobcat become the best foster momma to other bobcats, finding new purpose in life in helping them get back into the wild. 

The options are there, if only we look for them. And for the tiger in this video - one who was born in a zoo and grew up there, who could not be released into the wild simply because he never learned how to survive on his own - his joy was found in little things. Having space outside of a cage to run around, pools to jump into, friends to play with, toys to enjoy… that's all he needed. But his favorite thing to do, by far, is to chill in one of the pools, holding a giant red ball, and floating. The good life. He's found it, and he is making the very best out of each and every moment of it. 

There is no such thing as an "unwanted cat". There are simply cats out there who have not found the right humans for themselves yet. 

It really is that simple. Classifying a cat as "unwanted" is ridiculous. We understand classifying a cat as one with behavioral issues or health issues - because it is something important for future adopters to know about, to prepare for. But to call a cat unwanted is simply silly. And wrong. We don't believe that such a thing exists. A cat that "no one wants" is a cat that who hasn't found the one who wants them yet. And that one exists. Because every cat has a furrever home waiting for them somewhere out there. 

The cat in this story thought that he had already found his forever home. But that forever home got destroyed in a hurricane. And the people in that forever home - the people who he thought were his - betrayed him and abandoned him. They told the shelter that they don't want him anymore. For what reason? Just because. They abandoned their cat for no reason at all. Of couse he grew scared of humans. Of course he lost trust in us. But then something happened. A shiny, golden light appeared around one human - a calling, a sign, his true forever person. He saw her and knew. 

Everyone needs an emotional support item, and that very much includes cats. 

Life can get pretty stressful. For us, it's money, relationships, news. There's a lot that stresses us out. We look at our cats and think that we wish we could be them, that their lives are so chill and purrfect. And yet, stress is relative. And cats get stressed out too. Sometimes, it's the wind blowing in the wrong direction. Other times, it's sudden noises that spook them. Sometimes, it's humans closing doors that were open two seconds ago. Other times, it's humans not letting you steal food off their plate. 

It's all relative. And because our cats get stressed out too, then they - just like us - also need emotional support items. It could be emotional support snap peas, or a headband, or a Lego bag that they just love getting into when they need a little space. They get creative with their emotional support items. But when they find them, they cling onto them, and you, as their human, better never dare remove these items from your home, even when they break apart or start smelling. Your cat needs these items, especially when they zoomie straight into a wall int the middle of the night. 

A bond between a dad and a kitten he never wanted is the strongest bond in the world.

If you think the cat distribution system is kind to certain hoomans, you would be absolutely… correct. Some people wait years until they are blessed by a cat from the distribution system, while others find themselves in a possesion of a kitty every other week.

However, it seems there is a certain selection of people who are always on the cat distribution system radar, and those people are Dads. We all know at least one duo of a dad and a cat, and the origins of their love stories all sound similar: someone in the family finds a kitten, brings the sweet baby in need home, Dad says no, the cat stays anyway, Dad is grumpy about it for a few days while the kitten is determined to win Dad's heart, until the kitten eventually succeeds.

All these households then have what we call the "Classic Dad-Cat Duo", an inseparable bond between a dad and a cat he swore he would never love. This duo does everything together: They hang out, share hobbies and interests, eat, and of course, nap. The love between the two is something cosmic, one that even the most magical fairytales can't compete with.

A winter storm turned a doorstep dinner visitor into a house cat.

This couple has always left food out for the local ferals, who would only approach when the coast was clear. However, one kitty named Fry never followed that rule. Fry sat at the door and waited. The cat wouldn't let anyone closer than a couple feet, but it also refused to run. After a while it became normal to spot Fry at the neighbor's house, open the door, and watch the cat trot over like dinner had an appointment.

Then a cold snap hit and the situation changed from routine to urgent. Outdoor cats can survive a lot, but not weather like that. With the help of very smelly wet food, Fry stepped inside long enough for the door to close. Eight days later, the former porch regular is adjusting to indoor life in cautious stages. There's still distance, but there's also curiosity. The cat explores, watches, eats, and slowly accepts that warmth is part of the deal now.

The vet visit went about as wildly as expected. Fry escaped the carrier, caused chaos, and made it clear that trust is still a work in progress. The vet decided an overnight stay and sedation would make care easier and less stressful overall, even if it wasn't the smooth appointment anyone hoped for.

For now, Fry is safe, warm, and officially off the street. The adjustment isn't instant and it isn't quiet, but it's happening. Each day adds a little more confidence and a little less fear. The cat who used to wait outside the door is learning that the inside of it is home, even if it takes time to believe it.

Caffeine is the only thing standing between consciousness and chaos.

It's Monday, which means functioning requires caffeine and a small amount of emotional support. These cats look like they're running on the same fragile system as the rest of us. Eyes half open, faces blank, hovering near mugs like they're waiting for permission to wake up. The day started too early and everyone knows it.

The idea of work has changed a lot throughout the centuries. The concept of a career and nature of the workplace went from being based around stability, longevity in a company, and loyalty. The idea of a "job for life" began to be an outdated notion. People started focusing on decentralized work, work that fulfilled them, and finding their identity through work, rather than work creating an identity for them. 

Remote work, freelancing, and gig-based employment have all increased. Younger generations are valuing flexibility and work-life balance more than climbing a hierarchy of positions on an invisible ladder. And when you think about it, cats have been a part of that. They're there for us whether we work from home, a factory, an office, or not at all. They're an integral part of life and the workplace, especially with the rising trends towards technological work. They basically dominate the internet, so having them around isn't a waste of time. Observing them in their natural state is the best thing you can do to climb that invisible ladder of work. 

You might have thought that bringing a new kitten into the life of your cat child would not be a big deal. But as you will come to find from the finer points of this story, there is hardly a bigger deal than that…

Seeing your family coming together is a magnificent thing, even when it's your family's pets.

Every person who has a pet knows they are an indispensable part of their family. They're an ingrained part of the fabric that threads the family together, sometimes with fluffy hugs, sometimes with sharing a meal (of human food, of course), and sometimes with opening up to each other in ways we didn't even know were possible. Heck, even your goldfish is such a pet, sometimes - you can tell them all your secrets, load all the trouble of the day, and they'll never peep a word out to anyone else. Pets are amazing.

One expurrienced pet pawrent shared the heartwarming story of their family's shy cat, who - for the first time since she was adopted - has willingly gone right up to the family's delightful dog, and cuddled her. Now, it's very clear that she's friendly, she's a cat-loving dog, but it's the cat who was extra shy and skittish. But just like some people need time to open up, so do animals. Our pets are no different than us in a lot of parameters - we're all living, breathing, thinking, and feeling creatures.

Cats can be skittish by nature, it's not that uncommon. This fact can lead to many cute first-encounter cat stories, but this isn't one of them. Here is a cat, a gorgeous and absolutely ameowzing cat, who's just extra shy. If what she needed was time and reassurance, it's what she's got. What a wonderful family she has, a safe space that understands her needs. We love that for her.

We saw that we are our cats' owners, but we all know that they own us. Did we train them to get off the counter, or did they train us to give them a treat every time they get off? Cats love to boss us around with their screams. They don't like you sitting in their spot: scream until you get up. They are tired and want you to come to bed with them: scream until you get off the couch and get ready for bed. It must be purrfectly cathartic (and effective) to scream so much, which is why we're adopting their meowthed of solving problems: we're going to scream whenever we need something done today.
