Whose cat is it, anyway?

If this question is applicable to a cat, you know they roam the neighborhood like they own it, as if they run it with an iron paw. Some people are sure their cat is their cat, until they find out the family's feline was two-timing them all along. But even a cat has double the family, usually their original humans know what's up, they're aware of their cat's doings, and it's ok that they're ok with it. But some people just let their cat roam, and that we, admittedly, don't really understand. It can lead to some complicated situations, such as a cat stuck outside in the snow, which is a literal hazard. There might always be kind neighbors to take these cats in, but what if there aren't enough nice people around? What if there are other dangers outside, that even the kinderst of people can't help prevent?

All of these questions popped into our heads when we read about Salem, the roaming void cat whose owners don't seem to look for during an entire night. He was taken care of, for sure (and we're happy he had a safe and warm night), but really, it begs the question - whose cat is it, anyway?

You can take the cat out of the stomp, but you can't take the stomp out of the cat.

You might think that cats are quiet, graceful creatures. And some of them are, but some walk about as loudly as a stampede of elephants. We have no idea why, but they will quite literally stomp while walking. But even when they purroudly put their tiny legs down in a deliberate fashion, it doesn't make that much noise. There's only so much force that can be generated by a 5-inch leg and about 12 pounds of force. 

People have a right to want their neighbors to be quiet, but there has to be a good reason for a noise complaint as well. Like we said earlier, a party past midnight definitely counts, but cats walking "too loudly" certainly does not. The downstairs neighbor even went so far as to call the police on her "noisy" neighbor's felines, and when they arrived, they laughed and went home. The cops may have giggled as well, but we're pretty sure the pawrent got the purrfect last laugh.

If there's one thing dads and cats have in common, it's dad jokes and naps, but that's two things and it's clear that we're no meowthmetician. These memes are so stoopid you won't be able to resist saying "That's a real knee-slapper!" and then slap your knee.

Cats are often purrtrayed as feminine, but really, they're all just middle-aged dads at heart. They have a disdain for trying new things, love their routine, enjoy nothing more than a good nap in a comfy chair, and they both love to pretend that they don't like affection. But most of all, they love to tell a stoopid joke. A joke that's so bad you laugh out of pity, a joke that's so bad you want to wipe it from your meowmory with disinfectant. They're so bad that you can't help but laugh at them, that they've rounded the corner from bad to good by being so purrfectly idiotic. We know because cats have been using terrible puns in their memes since the beginning of meme history, and also because our cat always laughs at our dad jokes. 

So, the meme wizards here at I Can Has Cheezburger whipped up some original feline funnies this week that are just awful. Terrible. Horrific. But they're also so bad that you can't look away from them, you have to keep scrolling out of a pawsitively silly desire to know if they're really as bad as the one before. Talking about your cats at work should not be reprimanded, it should be mandatory. 

Look, we don't know, maybe it's just in our office - our very cat-centric office - that it is highly accepted to talk about cats all the time. But we don't think so. We think that people talking about their cats, people showing off cute pictures of cats, people sending each other funny memes of cats througout the day, it's not only normal, it's actually good for the overall morale of the office. Because cats are just… pawsome. Even people who don't have cats or who are not as obsessed with cats as we are are happy to talk about them and see pictures of them. 

In our humble opinion, people should tell funny anecdotes about cats, show pictures and videos of them, and talk about them in general much, much more often. Office included. To think that the person in this story got reprimanded for even less than that - for just telling one of their coworkers that they have cats is absolutely ridiculous. Especially considering the fact that the person who is doing the reprimanding has two giant portraits of their own dogs in their office right behind them. 

If your cat approves of your partner, they will make sure that you know about it right away. 

And that's important. It's actually necessary. Because if your cat doesn't approve of your partner, that is something that you should listen to. Cats know good people, and if they don't like someone, it usually happens for a reason. The way that people interact with cats is a huge sign. There are people who are are jealous of their partner's love for their cat. There are people who humiliate their partners for missing their cats when they run away. And then there are people who, behind their partner's backs, do everything that they can to bond with their partner's cats. And the cat then shows its appreciation and approval. 

It can go in either direction, but if a cat approves, you will know it. And the cat in today's story made sure that his owner knew that he approved of the girlfriend very, very quickly. For 12 whole years, this cat refused to sit in his owner's lap. Despite their bond, despite the fact that his owner wanted it very much. But the second his owner's girlfriend moved into their home, the kitty - just like that - decided that his new favorite spot for cuddles was her lap. And the owner's response… adorable. 

In a world as hectic as this one, all we crave is some pure wholesomeness in the form of cat memes. 

Everything moves so fast around us nowadays. Our jobs, the people we know and love, the news cycle. Everything seems to be moving too fast. Only one thing in our lives remains steady, and it is the only thing that really matters. It is our escape from the real world. Something positive - purely pawsitive - that takes nothing and only gives. We are, of course, talking about funny cat memes.

A woman in Ohio runs a cat rescue operation all on her own. When she came across a cat limping in the freezing cold snow, she immediately went to work. After failed catches and sleepless nights, she was able to save the baby!

This cat went from freezing cold street dweller to the biggest snuggly bug indoor baby. The woman says he is already scheduled for a vet visit, but she has sprayed his paw with wound spray, and the kitty is acting so much better.

The noise complaint turned into a rescue mission.

This cat must have been a meowsician or a meowstro in his past life because his love for the piano music his pawrents play is simply harmonious. He knows when they're going to practice and will beat them to the piano, relaxing for hours while they serenade him with songs.

We've truly never seen anything like it.

They describe something hissterical as well, they say that "he will get angry if we play the wrong note", which means that he must recognize the pieces to some extent. That's honestly incredible. We can barely remember what we had for breakfast, and this kitty can remember classic concertos. 

We never once assumed that cats were simple creatures, but this video just confirms that there's more to these fluffy felines than meets the hooman eye. And, as cute as this is, we have to wonder, will they have to play him a lullaby to fall asleep every night? So much for cats being low maintenance!

We know indoor-outdoor cats are a debate in the cat world, but can we all agree that forcing an indoor cat to go outside is definitely the wrong thing to do?

Personally, we support keeping cats indoors as much as possible. But we do see the other side of it. The cats that we have, we have all had from very young ages. It was early enough to change their habits so that staying only indoors wouldn't feel unnatural to them. But we can imagine that with other cats, it would be somewhat different. We can see how a stray rescued cat might have a problem with being locked indoors all the time. We can see how a cat that has been an outdoor cat their whole life might not take quite so easily to having it taken away from them. 

We get that deciding to make an outdoor can an indoor one would be a difficult decision, and sometimes an impossible one. Everyone will have to do what is best for their individual cat, in their specific circumstances, preferably while consulting a vet. It's not an easy decision to make, we know. But you know what is? When your friend tells you that their cat is an indoor one, do not attempt to let the cat out without their permission because of the side that you take in this debate.
