We're going insane, anyone want anything?

We didn't work the corporate life until we were in our 30s. Before we started writing for I Can Has Cheezburger, we were artists, and not quite the starving kind. However, it came time for a change, and we decided to root ourselves down and get a company job for some stability. The transition from making our own schedule and being our own boss to working in an office was quite the culture shock.

The daily commute, the monotony of doing nearly the same thing day in and day out, and the constant reminding people to wash their own dishes in a shared kitchen were things we never expurrienced before. We still have a lot of creativity throughout our days here at I Can Has Cheezburger, as we get to write about whatever we want (as long as it's cat-related), but it's a far cry from rehearsing for a performance and then getting up on stage. Boring isn't the right word, but repetitive is. We used to never do the same thing twice, and now, we do almost the same thing every day.

This is what we call "the grind". It's getting up and doing your best at nearly the same tasks you did yesterday, and the same tasks you'll do tomorrow… and the same tasks you'll do next week and every week after. Luckily, there are some helpful escapes from the purrfectly cyclical environment of your cubicle, and one of the ones we love the most is scrolling through cat memes. They remind us of our awwdorable kitties at home, they make our online expurrience better, and most impurrtantly, they make us smile.

Nobody will know if you take a few minutes for yourself to give yourself a healthy giggle break. We all need our little escapes, and everyone copes in different ways. Ours just happens to be filled with purrfectly cute cats.

Hide and seek with cats quickly turns into a game you can't win. 

Cats treat hide and seek like a competitive sport, and they are absolutely catvinced they are winning every time. The rules are simple: they hide, you seek, and somehow they still think they are invisible even when half their tail is sticking out. It is less about actually hiding and more about the purrsuit of chaos.

They take their hiding spots very seriously. Boxes, behind curtains, inside cabinets, or somehow wedged into places that should not physically fit a cat. It is all part of their master plan. Meanwhile, you are walking around calling their name while they sit perfectly still, convinced their stealth skills are impawccable.

The real twist is when they decide to switch roles mid-game. Suddenly, they are the seeker, stalking you with exaggerated slow steps like a tiny predator on a mission. One second you are looking for them, the next they are pouncing on your ankle like they just completed a full hunt.

Of course, they always act like they nailed it. Whether they were fully hidden or just loafing in plain sight, the confidence never changes. In their minds, they outsmarted you completely.

He got adopted and instantly became the main character.

Mouse got adopted and immediately brought peak orange cat energy into his new home. One day he didn't have a place, and now he's fully settled in, acting like he's always been there. He didn't ease into it either, just showed up, claimed his spot, and made himself comfortable right away.

He's exactly what you'd expect from an orange cat. Sweet, curious, a little clueless, but completely lovable. No attitude, no edge, just constant purring, cuddles, and wanting to be near his person at all times. Even purring in his sleep like he's that happy just existing. He's not trying to impress anyone, he's just like that.

And you can tell how much it means to his owner. Not in a big dramatic way, just in how much joy he's clearly added to everyday life. Everything feels lighter, calmer, better.

He got adopted, found his person, and instantly turned a house into something warmer. Peak orange cat behavior from start to finish.

When the world gets to be too much and you just want to disassociate and hide, there are not too many places you can go. But thanks to these cute cats, we now have the purrfect hiding spot that has been sitting in the corner of your house all along…

Ok, we cannot say that hiding in a bag can actually help you hide from the world. To begin with most of us hooman would struggle to fit into any kind of standard bag, even the giant Ikea ones. But mostly because there is no holding back the rising tide of responsibilities. At one point or another we are all going to have to face up to the things that we have to get done and the situations that we have put ourselves in.

But for the next few moments, we are going to be putting all of that on hold to indulge in the delight of cats hiding in bags so that we can live vicariously through them, imagining that we too have the ability to hide from the worries and woes of the world by putting our heads in a bag…those lucky cat children.
 

It was always known that cats are mysterious creatures, but we didn't realize just how much meowstery they bring into our lives. Just think of the scenario that you might already be a pawrent to two cat siblings, inseparable, living their best famioly life under your roof. And then, out of nowhere, a third stray with adoption pawtential appears in the same spot you adopted your previous cats from. And on top of that, this newcomer looks suspiciously just like the other two adoptees, who live the current comfy indoor cat life. That's exactly what happened to this pet-friendly family, who plans to gain the trust of the third sibling, and adopt him as well.

We can has memes, if you can has coin.

Hey you. Yes, you. The gamer with the cat who stole their entire lap, while you make yet another Khajiit character to start yet another Skyrim playthrough. Exactly you. We know what you're thinking - there are not enough hours in the world to play Skyrim, to listen to its amazing gaming soundtrack on repeat, and to spend time with your favorite feline family member. So while you're at it, and by "at it" we mean looking for Khajiit memes to fill the time until you start the 207th playthrough, let us recommend some games where you actually get to play a cat for real.

The best cat game of recent years is definitely Stray, the third-person adventure where you navigate a neon-lit robot city, solving puzzles to find your family. Another one that we absolutely love is Night in the Woods, where you play as a cat named Mae in a narrative-driven adventure exploring a decaying town. Then there's Little Kitty, Big City, the cute and cozy, physics-based game focused on causing mischief in a city while trying to find your way home.

If you play as a cat, you both game and spend some cat-time. And, of course, your cat will always be on your lap while you game. That's just the law of having a cat if you're a gamer. The cat sees an open lap - the cat conquers said lap. Just as you would conquer all of Tamriel if you could (a full Elder Scrolls strategy game when?).

I'm gonna soak up the sun, I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up. 

Sung by the iconic and indelible Sheryl Crow in 2002, a hit that we still chant to this day. This type of mantra is sure to brighten your mood, motivate your day, and make life all the more manageable. Now that spring is here and so very present, we can take it as a gift (pun intended). The sun kisses us in all sorts of ways; it doesn't just manifest as freckles on our skin, or as lines on our faces (yes, they're beautiful!). It also could be in the soft and serene smile of a cat. A cat that is smiling in the sunshine, smiling and appreciative of the life he has, appreciative of the weather brightening and lighting his soul. 

There are many connotations of sunshine and spring, and at I Cat Has Cheezburger, we're here to bring all that pawsitivity front and center. To love life, to embrace everything post winter drear, and to scroll happy-go-lucky cat memes to add a dash of brightness to your day. A day can feel empty without light, and whether that light is in the form of the sun, a person, a cat, or even cat memes, we're here for it. Enjoy the shine of cats in your everyday.  

She spots a rare void amongst flowers and greenery, and takes her in as her own. 

Feral cats are pretty common. This woman saw several litters of kittens around her place, and after some time and energy she was able to catch the mama to get her TNR'd. She thought her problems were over, but then her husband spots a void kitten all alone in the shared outdoor space. She already knows that her neighbors don't have a black cat, and no one knows where she came from. She's socialized, which points to her having been abandoned, as unfortunate as it is. Though it's difficult to comprehend why someone would do such a thing, she knows she has only one option. She has four cats already, but that doesn't stop her from doing everything in her power make sure this void kitten finds a home. Read the full story below for the details and photos of this kitten. 

"To be loved is to be changed."

It takes a lot of courage to allow someone, a stranger, to uproot your entire life and change it, even if they promise it's for the better. You don't know them, and they don't know you, but both of you know that help is needed, and you are willing to do what it takes to make a change.

That is what feral cats feel every single day, in places all over the world. They find themselves in need of a helping hand, a kind hooman who is willing to take a leap of faith and help a stray feline they just met. Both of them, the hooman and the cat, need to take a chance on each other in order to change the situation and offer a better life for the cute cat that just needs a loving home. 

For the feral cat in the story below, the leap of faith was even bigger, since she was also pregnant. She needed to trust this woman who met her in a grocery store parking lot, otherwise she would have had to deliver her baby kittens outside in the cold and all alone. While the woman had to give a piece of her to this stray cat, who looked so scared and so alone.

Eventually, both the lovely hooman and the soon-to-be mama cat decided to trust each other, and later that day, mama cat gave birth to a whole, healthy litter of baby kittens.

"Get a cat", they said. "They're a low-maintenance, cheap pet", they said.

Any sort of child, be they one with two legs or four, is a very expensive investment. For hooman kids, you have to pay for diapers, babysitters, school, and more meals than you ever imagined until they're at least 18-years-old. For a cat, you have to pay for bags of food, more litter than you ever imagined and those emergency vet visits you never planned for. And trust us, those vet bills are always much higher than you wish they would be. 

Hopefully, they don't happen very often, but every pet pawrent has had to rush their pet to the emergency room because of something they did. Purrhaps they ate something they weren't supposed to, they stopped eating entirely, or something else that would send any of us into a feline frenzy while worrying about their health. If you're a first time pet pawrent, you're much more likely to rush to the vet if something is wrong, but don't take it too hard - it's natural! It's your first time caring for another living being, and you worry that every little thing might be the end of the world. The more pets you own, the more you understand what a real emergency is.

Whether or not it is a real emergency, you get charged life-saving fees regardless of if your cat needed its life saved. Sometimes, you pay thousands of dollars just to find out that your cat is mad that you left them alone for a few days, or in today's case, you learned that you need to child-proof your trash can to avoid your food-motivated black cat from rebelling against their diet. 

Cats do have a tendency to be dramatic, so if there was any animal that would take the "die" in "diet" too literally, it would be cats. Well, they didn't succeed, but after a $6000 vet bill, this feline is alive and kicking. His pawrents' bank account, however, is not.

"Now she's acting like everything's fine and nothing happened."

Living with roommates is tough. Every single purrson on this Earth has had a terrible experience with a roommate before. Some of them have probably been milder, like them leaving their dirty socks all over the house, but some people are just impawssible to live with. We're not talking about just not washing their dishes, we're talking about throwing parties at 1 AM and climbing in through the window because they constantly lose their keys. Or even worse, the roommate that "accidentally" lets your cat out.

You have two choices when moving in with someone you don't know - you either decide to be friends, or be two ships passing in the night. We prefer the second option, because the first is always a shot in the dark, and has the potential for disaster if they end up being a worse friend than they are roommate. We tried to be friends with a roommate we didn't know before, and let's just say it did not go well. It ended with a broken window and lawyers.

But, we don't fault anyone for trying to go the friendly route. As much potential as it has for failure, it has a similar potential for purrrre awesomeness. You get a cool friend, and it makes living together easier. That is, if it works out. If you both share a love for cats, then you would think that you would be purrfectly compatible, right? Wrong!

After a seemingly banal incident where one roommate's cat got into a very interesting kitchen item, said roommate began icing out her fellow roommate and cat mom for something that was not her fault at all. She flipped a switch, instantly writing her off and looking down on her like she was a terrible purrson. When, really, if you read the story, you see that she is the irresponsible one. 

One thing you can't teach someone is how to take responsibility, and usually, the more money you have, the less responsibility you think is yours.

From outdoor stray to total house cat in no time. 

Bea's update is such a good one. She went from being outside and struggling to fully settling into life indoors, and now she just fits. She's figured out the rhythm of the house, gets along with her two older sisters, and knows when it's playtime and when it's not. Most of her "outside time" is just watching through the window, and she seems completely content with that.

Her health has come a long way too. Nearly doubling her weight since October says everything about how much better she's doing. She's not just getting by anymore, she's clearly thriving and feeling good.

The biggest change might be her fur. It went from rough and sparse to thick, soft, and fully fluffy. Now she needs regular brushing and even needed a trim, which is kind of wild considering where she started. She's also picked up on all the good house habits, like finding the warm spots and claiming her space on the cat tree.

It's hard to imagine her back outside now, especially with how harsh the winters get. Taking her in made a huge difference. She's safe, comfortable, and exactly where she's meant to be.

Cats have turned procrastination into an art form. 

Cats are the undisputed masters of procatstination, and they treat it like a full-time pawfession. The second there is something important to do, they suddenly have a full schedule of much more urgent priorities. Grooming for the fifth time, chasing imaginary dust, or loafing in a sunbeam all take precedence over anything remotely productive. It's not avoidance. It's carefully curated chaos.

They have a very paws-on approach to doing absolutely nothing. The moment you try to focus, they step in to "help," usually by planting themselves on your keyboard or swatting at your pen like it personally offended them. Productivity gets clawed to a halt, and they sit there looking purrfectly satisfied with the outcome.

Even when they seem busy, it's all part of the act. Sitting still, watching nothing, maybe a dramatic tail flick. It gives off the illusion of focus, but there are zero num-purrs being crunched.

Somehow, they never stress about it. No deadlines, no panic, just a calm, unbothered vibe. Everything can wait, especially if there's a nap involved. Honestly, their timing may be questionable, but their commitment to doing nothing is impawccable.

We could never understand people who abandon cats. But at least we can be thankful for the people who save cats who were abandoned, giving them the forever home they deserve.

Abandoning a cat is a cowerdly exist from the options of either raising a cat, giving them to a shelter, or finding them a home where they could live permanently. Just leaving cats outside and running away is hideous, and definitely worse if a cat needs to brave a blizzard outside alone. This is exactly what an abandoning person expected from a litter of four kittens, apparently, by leaving them in a box next to a fast-food dumpster, with a cat cage nearby.

First of all, how dare they? Second of all, how dare they?! Abandoning kittens is such an evil act. Usually, when it happens, it's because a person has a female cat that they don't bother to neuter, and don't care to leave her roaming in the streets. Then, the cat gets pregnant, the neglecting owners have no idea what to do (because, you know, they don't know how to care for cats, evident in their female cat getting into all this trouble in the first place) - so the right thing in their mind is getting the kittens in a box and dumping them somewhere. Just… great.

But with all that pent-up rage we have over the subject, we must acknowledge the good in the pure hearts of people who rescue cats. As avid cat lovers, we're so grateful for people who take from their time, energy, and pockets to save cats in need. Whether they volunteer in a cat shelter, or adopt abandoned cats - we salute these people with hand and paw. These people need an online standing ovation.

Hey, you up?

Sleep is absolutely crucial to our health and well-being. It doesn't matter if we're man, woman, child, or anything else, we need sleep. These crucial hours of rest give us not only a keen and productive mindset, but it helps us actually feel happy, motivated, and rational. Ever cry for no reason and you just can't figure out what caused the tears? You may have just been tired. And they say that driving while sleep deprived is just as dangerous as if you had a few to drink. The point is that we all need and love to sleep, but it doesn't always work like that for everyone. Some of us are not as lucky when we shut our eyes. To effortlessly drift off to dreamland may be harder for some, the mere lambent light of another room could stir our peace and quiet. And what about cats?

Cats need sleep too! They need their rest and digest, but it may not be when you're having yours. In fact, it's probably nowhere near the time that you're resting. It's more likely that they sleep all day while you're working, just to start their evening of zoomies around 6 pm, and have a peak of energy at 3 in the morning. Yeah, you didn't know it could be so daunting to be a cat owner, did you? But what is there to do? They're too cute for us to care. We choose sleeplessness over catlessness. 

Everyone in the neighborhood knows him as "The Street Cat," but he's new to someone special. Someone who was simply in their own garage, but saw this patient orange stray waiting for pets. And before you know it, he's in the home snuggling with his chosen hooman, holding paw and hand, and given a new name. 

You heard it here. The Street Cat hissed at everyone and everything, except his chosen hooman. He waited patiently outside the garage for pets, and then settled comfortably in his room and demanded cuddles all the time. The guy took this orange to the vet, and there was no chip. He finds out from the neighbors that this orange isn't new, he's the decided stray around these parts. The human didn't take no for an answer; he checked missing cat websites and did everything he could to make sure he's definitely without a home. He didn't want to just toss him to a shelter after feeling so chosen, and after bonding with this cuddly orange. He has a cat at home already, but decides to take the orange in. 

His other cat likes to sit on his bed and cuddle, or watch him play video games. It's never easy to feel replaced, but this guy lets his first cat know she's still baby, but that she has a new brother now. The orange and baby are curious, friendly, and non-hostile to each other. An occasional growl or hiss, but other than that they're a-okay. Something incredible about this orange cat is that he has a very distinct and definite love language, and it's physical touch. No matter what they're doing together, little orange Sammy likes to put his paw somewhere on his new owner. 

This story is yet another piece of proof that cats and dogs can be absolute best friends. 

To this day, people believe in the myth that cats and dogs hate one another. And yes, it is a myth. Sure, cats and dogs are very different. Their behaviors and interpretations of those behaviors are sometimes not only different but opposite. The simple wagging of their tail means two completely different things. But just like we, as humans, are able to get along with people who are different than us, cats and dogs can be friends too. In fact, cats and dogs can be best friends. 

In today's story, the cat and dog are so bonded that after the dog had to go through a procedure that left it a little worse for wear than usual. And the kitty was concerned. Constantly, the cat was offering comfort to the dog, and then, out of nowhere, it started doing something special, something beyond merely offering comfort.

If you thought the CDS would not strike in the middle of a construction site, then you have misunderstood just how surprising and determined the CDS can be.

It is true, the Cat Distribution System, much like the cats it handles, knows no limits for rationality and reason. It acts on its most intrusive thoughts, and while they are usually right, they can happen at any time, in any place. And for this lucky couple it turns out the CDS wanted to gift them a housewarming present just before they moved into their new home in the form of a stray cat who was also looking for a home.

A perfect pairing in the eyes of the CDS no doubt and a rather welcome addition for this couple who it seems were looking for something to dote on. Leaving us with a very successful and sweet CDS adoption story and one more feral feline off the streets. What more could you want?
