Employee at nonprofit organization discovers new hire gets higher salary, takes it up with manager, who refuses to give them a raise: ‘There will be no increase’

Fail Blog - Wed, 03/04/2026 - 09:00
Who thought that a non-profit organization would be so… ungenerous towards their own people?

What makes a workplace somewhere employees want to stay? Is it the people, the money, the benefits? Is there a secret recipe that combines a set of workplace qualities to create the perfect place to work?

Well, if you ask us, many employees would be willing to give up most qualities, even pay and benefits, if it means they get to work at a place where they feel fulfilled and appreciated. Even if their workplace is unable to give them a raise every year, or if they don't get too much PTO, they would stay for years just because they simply enjoy coming into work every single day.

However, all it takes is one action from the employer's behalf to have their employees running out the door. Like when the nonprofit organization below decided to cut a longtime employee's hours and pay to accommodate a new hire. They decided they would rather pay a new, inexperienced employee a higher salary than to preserve someone who has loyally been there for the last two years.

When the longtime employee discovered the new hire was getting paid more than they did, they immediately confronted their manager. Sadly, the manager didn't have anything beneficial to say and only claimed that there were several reasons for the pay discrepancy. The employee didn't even have to read the whole email to understand that they will not be getting any raises anytime soon.

'Ex-boyfriend wanted me to give up my cats, and that’s why he’s an ex': Girlfriend thinks the man she's dating is "the one" until, out of nowhere, he asks her to get rid of her cats, quit her job, and move to another state

LOL Cats - Wed, 03/04/2026 - 08:00
Usually, it's not the cat who needs rehoming, it's the partner who wants you to abandon your cat.

We think that everyone can agree that one of the golden rules when it comes to dating is setting expectations early. Where in the country do you want to live long-term? Do you see yourself ever getting married? Are kids something that you would want to have someday in the future? And - perhaps the most important one - do you like cats? And we say that it is the most important because we think that it is often the most overlooked, despite the fact that if your partner wants you to get rid of your cats somewhere down the line in the relationship, that is a dealbreaker just as much as any of the other things.

We tell cat owners to find out what the person they are dating thinks about their cats as soon as possible. You don't want to date someone who hates cats for three weeks, let alone three years. Of course, you would expect someone to just… tell you, from the get-go, what they think about your cats, but unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. Bring it up. Facing the ultimatum - "it's either me or the cat" - might be very simple but it sure as heck is not easy.

Coworker Jake repeatedly eats 1/2 of 24-year-old employee's lunch: 'I'm genuinely hungry... 1/2 of it is gone'

Fail Blog - Wed, 03/04/2026 - 08:00
What would you do if a coworker continually ate half of your lunch?

Let's all hope we never have to answer that on our own behalves! But this person does, as she's being continually left with a growling stomach at lunchtime, thanks to one coworker named Jake.

If you have even 20 or 30 people at your office — and plenty of offices have far more than that — one fridge is just not big enough to hold everyone's food. The result is that sometimes, someone's lunch will mysteriously disappear, and interestingly enough, no one will fess up to sneaking a bite or 2.

This worker began meal-prepping food to last her the whole week, only to watch it disappear before her very eyes. And she even knows who ate it!

20 Fabulous Felines With Unique and Rare Fur Patterns and Markings

LOL Cats - Wed, 03/04/2026 - 07:00
No matter how many cats you have seen, there are always more out there that will amaze you with their uniqueness.

Here at ICHC, we like to say that every single cat is unique. Because it is true. Especially to that cat's owner. We say that as people who own the simplest cats - simple in every way. They are still special. There is always something. Maybe at first glance, someone else wouldn't see it. But you know. Some of the simplest cats have a folded ear or two. Maybe these cats have an extra toe bean. Maybe they have a single paw that is a different color or a stripe on their tail that seems like it shouldn't be there. There is always something to make them unique.

With all that said, we have to admit that some cats instantly look different and unique - without having to so much as squint. There are always cats with unique fur patterns - things that are rare and unexpected. And the beautiful thing about the internet - and our jobs as people writing for ICHC - is that we can put together a list of these special kitties for all of you guys to view and enjoy.

25-year-old goes ‘No Contact’ with his former work bestie after she sabotages his new relationship, revealing a deeper truth about a workplace love triangle: 'Watch your back'

Fail Blog - Wed, 03/04/2026 - 06:00
High school love-triangle drama followed him around like a ding on his resume.

Although he viewed their relationship as platonic, this 25-year-old became best friends with a woman in his office. They went to happy hour, shared secrets, and got close enough to be considered true homies, but when he started seeing a woman in another department, things got spicy. For those of us who have been around the block in an office setting for longer than 5-minutes, it's clear that this love triangle was just a ticking HR time-bomb, but to an enthusiastic recent college grad, romantic and social dabblings in the office were about to teach him a valuable lesson in professionalism.

Rule #1: Always keep your coworkers at arm's length.

Employees discuss why they quit their jobs only a few days (or hours) in: ‘[I was] working 12-13 hours a day’

Fail Blog - Wed, 03/04/2026 - 03:00
When you're first starting a job, noticing red flags on your first day is usually reason enough to can yourself.

You did everything you needed to do. You ensured your resume follows ATS guidelines. You completed not one, not two, but three different interviews. Don't forget the technical assessment! You alerted your references promptly, and then subsequently received your offer.

On your first day, it becomes glaringly apparent: This place stinks, and so does the role you fought tooth and nail to get. What now? Well, nobody's forcing you to stay, so you quit.

Below, you'll read about why certain employees quit their jobs nearly immediately. They share what made them leave, and what you should never, ever tolerate in the workplace.

21 Cattastic Cat Memes Purrfect for a Procrastinating Workday Scroll

LOL Cats - Tue, 03/03/2026 - 17:00
Cat memes are the unofficial coffee break of the internet.

Sometimes you just need a quick scroll break. Not a full lunch. Not a walk. Just a few solid cat memes while you sit at your desk pretending to think very hard.

One turns into five before you even realize it. A cat with its paws on a keyboard like it's about to send something it absolutely shouldn't. A cat staring at a screen with that thousand-yard look that says, "This could've been an email." The one dramatically lying on paperwork like deadlines are optional. It's too accurate.

There's also the classics. The "I'm busy" pose that looks nothing like actual purrductivity. The side-eye that feels directed at whoever scheduled that meeting. The slow blink that reads like, "We'll circle back." You don't even need captions half the time. The faces say it all.

It's not about wasting time. It's about surviving the day with small, harmless doses of joy. A few memes, a quiet laugh, maybe one sent to a coworker who's also hanging on by a thread. Then you close the tab and go back to work slightly less annoyed.

Nightshift security guard accused of stealing company electricity to charge his laptop, so he brings a typewriter to write his novel instead: 'It was never about the electricity'

Fail Blog - Tue, 03/03/2026 - 16:00
Micromanagers want their workers to be working 100% of the time they're on shift; however, when there's nothing left to do, is an employee supposed to just sit and stare at the wall?

Bored on the nightshift, this security guard was keen on writing a novel in their spare time, but management couldn't fathom that a worker could multitask on the job. Although their duties were finished and their next round of checks wasn't for another hour, this employee was expected to sit there and do nothing, but instead of drowning in monotony and losing precious time, this worker decided to be productive for their outside project.

This "side project" turned into a huge drama in the workplace, but not in the way you would expect, because instead of being straightforward, management chose the cowardly way out, which backfired satisfyingly.

'Family is family': New parents weren’t sure how their cat would handle a newborn, but now they have a tiny furry babysitter on duty

LOL Cats - Tue, 03/03/2026 - 16:00
He was ready for the baby before anyone else was.

When this couple found out a baby was on the way, one of the biggest questions wasn't about diapers or sleep schedules. It was about the cat. Their male cat had always been attached, especially to his usual sleeping spot next to dad. So naturally, there were worries about how he'd react to such a big change.

During the pregnancy, though, something shifted. Instead of sticking to his usual place, he started sleeping near mom's belly and feet. Almost like he knew. It was a quiet adjustment that didn't make sense at first. Looking back, it feels like he was already keeping watch.

Once the baby arrived, any lingering fears faded quickly. He didn't act jealous or unsettled. He simply hovered nearby in a calm, respectful way. Not too close, not overwhelming, just present. He even claimed a little guard spot near the baby, like he'd assigned himself the role.

The worry about accidental swats or territorial behavior disappeared. What showed up instead was something softer. A steady, gentle presence. He seems to understand that this tiny new human belongs here.

Sometimes the biggest concerns turn into the sweetest surprises.

'I said no more cats': Grieving woman finds striped 3-week-old kitten on the street just after her cat Nyx crossed the rainbow bridge, she takes her in anyway

LOL Cats - Tue, 03/03/2026 - 14:00
Sometimes what you want isn't what you get, and that's okay.

Not everyone is spiritual, but if you are then you probably believe things happen for a reason. It doesn't mean you think everything happens for a reason, but it could mean that you attribute your life circumstances to something you have to learn, a message from above, or a journey to begin. It's a beautiful way to think of things, that everything is meant for you, the good and the bad, and that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. It's a way to see things, a positive lens of meaning and purpose, opposed to thinking nihilistically that nothing means anything. But anyway, this woman lost her cat Nyx and swore she wouldn't just pick up another. Then her heart spoke louder than her head. She saw this tiny, striped cutie outside, meowing up a storm. She walked by, and made it about a block before turning back. Read the full story below.

Cat lover saves abandoned and frightened kitten dumped on her property from scorching heatwave, giving it a furever home full of love and cuddles, cat mom says: ‘Luna already seems like a whole new kitty and it’s only been a few days since we met.’

Sometimes people will be gifted a cat by the Cat Distribution System, but their sense of responsibility stands in the way of them seeing it. Which is exactly what happened in this story, however before it was too late this pawrent finally smartened up enough to realize that the kitten was destined to be theirs all along

We cannot entirely blame this pawrent for not seeing the obvious truth laid out in front of them. After all, it can be quite the headspinning event to come across a seemingly abandoned kitten. There is a lot to do both to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the kitten as well as your home and many pawrents get wrapped up in that process without noticing all the signs screaming at them that the kitten is destined to be their own cat child.

If the pawrent is aware enough they manage to stop themselves before surrendering the cat to a shelter and realize that even if their life and home are somewhat imperfect, they are perfect for the kitten who has been gifted to them. Thankfully, this is one of those stories where the pawrent realizes the reality and the pair of them get to live their happily ever after.
