When it has already gone too far to admit that you're wrong.

If you ever worked in the servicing industry or in customer service, you know that customers can be wrong. Like completely and utterly wrong about anything you can imagine. The thing is that most times they know they are but continue anyway. Almost as if being wrong is better than admitting that you were confused. Being ignorant being better than saying the truth. That fear of admitting wrongness will always amaze me because it has become even more common in the last few years. We can even see it in social media, where being mistaken is reason enough to tease someone forever. That made us all think that it is better to know we are wrong and just pretend we aren't.

​There is that moment when it hits you. You realize how wrong you were and how late it is to admit it. You start thinking about saying the truth, which makes it worse, as now more time has gone by. Now, if you admit it, you are not only dumb, but also you overreacted to something that was 100% your fault. In this Reddit story, I believe that is what happened. This guest was wrong, and I believe that mid-conversation, when she had already denied and made a scene, she realized she was wrong. But it had already gone too far. She had to stick to the lie because it would be worse to admit that all that mess was for nothing.

Maybe it is better to be truthful, but to admit that you are wrong when you already exaggerated the situation, and everything went too far. You need a kind of self-esteem that not a lot of people have to admit when you were wrong. But that will always be more valuable than pride.

Malicious compliance, the only way to work in the corporate world right now.

You go to work as an IT employee, and something happens, a system went down, the wifi disconnected, whatever. When that occurs, you start fixing it, not realizing it's already 12:30 and you have between 12 and 1 pm to take your lunch. You decide to ignore that, as this problem is far more important, and for one day you can take your lunch at another time. When you fix the issue, it is already past 1 o'clock, but you go to lunch anyway. After eating, you go back to your desk only to find your boss being mad at you for taking your lunch at a time that isn't the assessed one. There is no room for explaining, so you just comply.

A couple of days later, a power outage makes the whole network go down. This is critical, but it is already 12:30, so you can't stay, as you don't want your boss to be mad at you again. You go to lunch, and after 30 minutes you're back. At your desk is your boss, who was waiting for you to come back. He isn't happy, and as soon as he sees you, he just says: "The network is up, by the way!" You are done. Officially, you have a target on your back, and it wasn't really malicious compliance. It was just doing what you were told to avoid having your boss mad at you again. That is the corporate world.

Now this Reddit user who shares this story is looking for some help in the matter. But the reality is that he already has the target on his back. They are going to be looking more closely at him, just waiting for any tiny mistake to get him fired. So if he asked me, I would tell him to start updating his resume. 

Should you sacrifice your financial future to help a sibling you barely speak to?

A hardworking girl was gifted $24,000 from an elderly neighbor who watched her grow up, hoping she'd use the money for her future. The parents insisted she had to give part of it to help her complicated brother, who, apparently, was not doing well in life and needed a bit of a push. This Colorado girl asked for help in r/family since she found herself with her hands tied and lost on how to proceed with this situation.

I get very upset when I encounter stories like this where parents are very clearly inclined to help one of the siblings, leaving the other in a very tight situation with little to no capacity to respond. This girl was lucky enough to receive that huge gift from her neighbor, and doesn't have to share with anyone she's not comfortable with. And, especially not with her brother, whose attitude and behavior made her childhood a struggle.

My complaint here is with the parents, who I definitely do not understand. I cannot comprehend how they can act like his son is an angel and pretend the girl gave half of the money to buy him a trailer. I'll say that, from the parents' point of view, it may sound logical to give the man a little help in life, at least until he can get it together. That's not a problem for me. The issue starts when they ask the daughter to lend the money and put her in that awkward situation.

While everyone was out celebrating America's independence, one cat lover spent her night bathing a thirsty, bug-covered baby void cat. Now, they have two things to celebrate every year on July 4th: America's "birthday" and her kitten's adoption day!

Black cats are still the least adopted cats. Some people still hold on to the superstition that they're bad luck, or a bad omen, and therefore, they receive the least amount of compassion when found in the wild. None of the superstitions are true, of course, but that doesn't stop people from consistently picking other cats over black cats. This was about to be the story of yet another black kitten, from Reddit's r/AVoid5 community, until the kitten and her soon-to-be purrson found each other.

Amidst the ruckus and fireworks happening at a Fourth of July party, one starving, flea-covered kitten courageously approached the party. He cried for help, for even some water to drink. Many of the guests tried to chase him off, but one cat lover took pity on him and picked him up. No one claimed him, so she took him home. 

She bathed him, fed him, and took him to the vet. Her original plan was to give him up for adoption, but as most black cats do, he crawled his way into her heart before she could even realize it. She bonded with the baby and decided to keep him as her own cat kid. Now, they play, cuddle, and snuggle as often as pawssible. 

July 4th is usually a hard time for pets, but for this pair, it brings special memories. The day that they were brought together and both of their lives changed furrever.

Hosting a large family gathering is no picnic. Unless it is, in fact, a picnic. 

But that, itself, really makes you wonder why picnics are regarded as something that is "easy," as the idiom suggests, considering all the planning and baking that goes into making a picnic happen. 

You can always trust a Southern woman to step in and correct some bad behavior. Especially when she's a cat lover and there's a cute orange kitten in need of saving.

It's stories like this that make us wonder about how all the small decisions we make in life lead to things that can essentially change our lives. For example, if Jan Bradley hadn't decided to go to Walmart in the summer of 2020, Pumpkin might have had a very different life. On her way back from her errands, she was driving through a neighborhood and saw three young boys chasing a smol orange kitten. Most people would have driven by, thinking, "they're just playing", or "I don't have time to stop and deal with this today", but Jan didn't. 

She gathered up all her Sourthern sass (and charm) and promptly stopped those boys from tormenting the kitten. She convinced them to hand over the baby cat, and drove home to her husband with the one thing that wasn't on her shopping list: a new feline family member. 

Now 6-years-old, Pumpkin has taught Jan and her husband Eddie a lot. He never grew into being a snuggly cat - he likes his space and affection on his own terms. It's hard when you have a cat that you just want to show them how much you love them, but the best way to do that is to meet them on their terms. I learned that lesson with one of my current cats, whose name is, coincidentally, also 'Eddie'. I rescued him from the streets, and he's never fully managed to let his guard down around people. But, I still love him, and he's just as loved as my other cat who loves snuggles, I've just learned to show my affection differently. Pumpkin and his pawrents had to do the same.

Before we jump right into the ameowzing tenacity of this little kitten below, I want to share a story on my own. I didn't describe myself as a cat person before I had a cat of my own. But the decision to adopt a cat wasn't an overnight switch - I was already living with a cat before, which led me to this decision. When I was a student, I lived in a flat share with three other people for a few years. One of them brought an abandoned kitten home. So far so good, but signs of my flatmate not seeing the cat as an individual creature, with wants, needs, and feelings, started to occur. And I was worried. Things like closing the bedroom door while he slept, not giving the cat an option to leave, or putting a bracelet on his neck instead of a fitted collar. I was not having it. I felt as if I needed to fight for the cat - and so I did.

In the end, the cat went to live with another flatmate, when we all separated after we finished our studies. The cat still lives a good life with this other person. Caring for this cat and standing for his rights was what made me adopt a kitten of my own down the line. But the important takeaway from this is that my flatmate's cat needed a change of human - someone who will actually care for him, and give him the happy ending he deserved. And that's exactly what the now-cat of u/Status-Ad-83 needed. A person who will not leave her outside to fend for herself when they leave for a weekend… literally.

A cat celebration is always better than a regular one, especially on the 4th of July.

First of all, cats make everything better, this is just a simple truth in life. And secondly, when it comes to celebrating, cats really know how to get the pawrty started. Whether you celebrate with music, fireworks, or a backyard BBQ - a cat will enjoy it just as much as you do. Especially if it's the BBQ option.

Just imagine your cat with the USA flag, waving it like they would a feathered toy, while fireworks dot the skies and reflect in your kitty's round eyes. And imagine your cat coming to your backyard BBQ with some extra materials they've "borrowed" from your neighbor - because there's literally no stopping a foodie feline when there's tasty food around. And the 4th of July food is usually awesome. And what about some music? Just point the laser dot anywhere, and see your cat dance like a maniac on the dance floor.

So, gather round, fellow pawtriotic feline fans, and let's celebrate this like it was intended - with lots of cats. Because, of course we celebrate things with cats around here. In fact, the thing we feel most "patriotic" about is cats - we're glad to live under the rulership of our feline overlords, while being in the home of the free and the brave. Are the 'little things' really so little?

Nobody else but us can say what's important for us in our friendships and in our lives. When we constantly feel somebody else doesn't listen to us, it's ok to listen to that feeling, but sometimes we get glimpses of something else that might be going on. It's always ok to try to have an honest conversation with ourselves, or with a forum on the internet lol, and see whether we are exaggerating through our pretensions or not.

How many times have you put your foot in your mouth during a work call? 

Sometimes we are just too stressed or too sleepy to take good care of our words. So, there might be some communication mess-ups at work from time to time. Of course, we never intend to offend anyone or be disrespectful, but we're still only human. We make mistakes when we talk all the time. 

Redditor u/Sad-Supermarket-3878 unfortunately misspoke while on the phone with a female client. He was in the car with his wife going to the gym early in the morning and half asleep. Then he got an urgent call with this client. After the chat ended, he just so happened to also be in the middle of saying goodbye to his wife and accidentally said, "I love you" to his client. Both the client and his wife laughed it off and made fun of him, so all's well that ends well. However, the call was recorded and audited, and the HR department was not so happy about it.

If you're gonna stumble over your words every now and then, I think it's a lovely thing that the first thing that comes out of your mouth is an expression of endearment. It means that you're lucky, you have love in your life, and you acknowledge that often enough to say it without a second thought. It would have been way worse if he had said something bad or something insulting. Granted, HR needs to take care of the company's integrity; that's their priority, but still, it could have definitely been worse. All in all, it's not the mistake of the year, just a silly anecdote to tell over family gatherings, and HR is out of line for those write-ups! 

Why do wholesome cats make the internet feel like a better place?

There are plenty of reasons to open the internet every day, but sometimes all you really need is a few wholesome cats. Between stressful news, endless notifications, and everything else competing for our attention, seeing a cat peacefully existing can feel surprisingly refreshing. They have a way of slowing things down for a moment.

Cats don't even have to try very hard to improve our moods. One photo of a sleepy kitten curled up in a blanket or a proud cat showing off its favorite nap spot can instantly make a rough day feel a little lighter. It's one of the internet's most reliable sources of comfort.

Maybe that's because cats are experts at enjoying simple things. They find happiness in sunbeams, cardboard boxes, soft blankets, and random spots on the floor. Watching them reminds us that life doesn't always have to be complicated to be enjoyable. Sometimes comfort is enough.

Talking from experience, there are days when scrolling past wholesome cat photos feels like the exact reset button my brain needs. No drama, no arguments, no impossible expectations. When your baby is no longer a baby

I get it; it must be tough to realize you can't influence your child's life like you used to. I don't think at eighteen years of age you should be allowed to do anything you want, even though you're technically legally able to. Still, at some point, as a parent, you have to let go of control a little and assume your child will make their own mistakes. I think this is what this mother is struggling with: the need to control her child because she is still young and lives under her roof, and the fact that she is old enough now and she is probably living what we all lived at some point in our youth: our first love. The question is, should she step aside this time, or should she put even more boundaries in place?

When you are so great that nobody notices it

Sometimes being good at something doesn't guarantee people will notice it. You might be the best at what you do, but people are definitely more likely to see what's overtly shown to them. It might not even be that they take you for granted; it's just that people tend to interpret things they don't know who's doing as something that happens naturally. The employee who shared this story experienced it firsthand, and I think he still has time to get everyone to appreciate his work; he has to amp up his strategy.

Forget the kings and queens. The cats are the real masterpieces.

Cats have always known they were works of art. The only problem is that not every Renaissance artist seemed to know what a cat actually looked like. Every now and then, taking the long way ends up changing everything.

I used to scroll through Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit wondering if the Cat Distribution System would ever find me. Every rescue story made me hope that one day I'd have my own. I didn't expect it to happen during a quick stop at a friend's apartment, but that's exactly when one sweet little cat decided to make herself known.

My friend offered to meet me outside, but I walked over to the building instead. Almost immediately, a beautiful cat wandered over looking for company. She rubbed against our legs, happily accepted every pet, and even started making biscuits right there on the sidewalk. It was obvious she wasn't looking for food as much as she was looking for someone to spend time with.

That's when I learned her story. A neighbor had put her outside, and she had been left to fend for herself. Despite everything, she still trusted people and soaked up every bit of attention she could get. It was impossible not to fall for her.

Instead of walking away, we started figuring out how to help. Before long, a mutual friend offered to give her a home, turning what could have been another lonely day outside into the beginning of a brand-new chapter. Even better, everyone worked together to make the transition as smooth as possible, helping gather her supplies and making sure she would be comfortable from day one.

The whole situation ended up being a win for everyone involved. The cat finally has a home where she'll get all the pets, belly rubs, and companionship she'd been asking for. Her new family gets an affectionate little shadow who already knows how to win people over. And I got my own Cat Distribution System story after all. 

Friday is here, and that means one thing - cats, cats, and more cats!

Hey there, fellow feline fanatics and general cat fans, we're so excited you're here. We're about to start the preparations for a weekend full of cats - so the more cat people join us, the better. But what's a weekend full of cats, you might ask? Well, don't worry, we're about to gatekeep the answer. A weekend full of cats is… exactly as it sounds! It's a weekend with some maximum meow energy and full of fluff, and as many cats as pspspsible. Your cats, our cats, and all the love of cats we share together.

So, this is what we do: Friday night comes, and it's time for us to plan for the weekend ahead. First of all, we're being happy that the workweek has finally been left behind. Secondly, we're giving a ton of attention to our cat, because he deserves it - he was at home all week long while we were working. He deserves the attention. And then - the cat weekend plans start. We want the weekend to be as full of cats as possible, and that can be done in a few ways, that we're about to share with every cat lover who's willing to listen.

You simply need to surround yourself with as many cats as possible. Your cat, your neighbor's cat, go to a friend's house with multiple cats - pet them, spoil them, hang out with them, give them your time and energy. Heck, even go and adopt another cat, because that's already an immense joy to do. And if all that isn't enough - let yourself be surrounded by the cat humor of some online feline funnies. That's right - cat memes. But don't worry, you don't have to go looking for them - we've got some right here, for your cat-filled weekend.

Entitled people, comped food, annoying customers —is that a nightmare? No, just a normal day as a server.
 

​Customer service is probably the most stressful job in the world. Because the worst part of it is actually the main thing you have to do: treat customers. People are awful, especially when you give them a little bit of power. They go from being normal to entitled beings that cannot stand being incorrect or being told no. Customer service representatives get all the confrontation and mistreatment without being able to respond or even complain. They have to smile and pretend that they aren't hurt by the awful things they are hearing. And even though this should be regulated by the companies so that employees have some kind of procedure to avoid being mistreated, the main issue is with the customer directly. People need to start learning how to treat employees nicely. They don't owe you anything, and there is no reason whatsoever to treat someone as badly as they do.

In this Reddit story, the server was attending the last table of the night, so she wanted everything to go as smoothly as possible to avoid going home with an awful headache. Everything started nicely until the steak the customer ordered arrived. It wasn't cooked as he asked. She apologized and offered to change it, but he denied, so she just added some free dessert for the inconvenience. Till then, everything was fine. The situation had escalated, and the customer was happy with the service. When the bill came, they complained they were being billed for the steak as it was not cooked as he asked. He had already eaten the steak at this point. This is where the server decided to just breathe and applied a 10% discount to avoid issues, but she shouldn't have to do that.

She had already offered to change the steak, and it was denied. If they eat the whole steak, they cannot complain after. Silly of me to think that was common knowledge. She complied not because they deserve it or because they were nice to her. She did because she was tired and wanted to avoid confrontation. These customers just took advantage of that so they could have a cheaper bill, which is just so entitled. You decide to go out to dinner. Pay for it. Stop expecting people to comp your food just because. Nobody owes you free food, and trying to take advantage of a restaurant in every thing you can is tacky and disrespectful.  

Cats do whatever they want, even when they're in the most dire of situations, and that includes finding a home and deciding "I live here now."

There's something extra special about cats. We all know it; this is why we're such dedicated cat fans here. And some of this extra special sauce of cats is their determination - cats do what they want, and there's no one out there who could tell them otherwise. And it doesn't end just there. Oh, no. Cats' determination and all that "I do what I want" attitude extend into some of the most dire situations cats can find themselves in - like being abandoned in the woods in a pet-abandoning hot spot. Just like the rural road next to one r/CatDistributionSystem community member's house.

This one person describes how many animals are dumped near their house. We assume that if it's a regular occurrence, they can't do a lot to help every single animal. That's really sad, and we can just hope these pets find happiness again after this grave injustice they've experienced. And this is exactly the case with one very loudly meowing kitten. She was meowing her lungs out in the woods by their house, looking like the skinny abandoned kitten she was. But despite all that she was going through - this special cat determination was instilled in her still.

We think this is one of the Cat Distribution System's powers - it capitalizes on the already existing cattitude and takes it to the next level. It's that audacity (in the most pawsitive way of using this word) to decide "I'm adopted now. You're my new pawrents. This is my house. You are cat people now. I have a loving home, a forever home." And that's the magic of the CDS - it gets all these cats in need right to the home that'll take them in. They might just need this little extra nudge of extra special audacity, so to speak, to help them. And we love when that happens.

Weddings and their sentimental value

Big events have a way of bringing everything into light. Those days, when our feelings are exacerbated and expectations are high, old dynamics we've gotten so used to that we stopped noticing them show themselves again at full force. The resulting feeling is bittersweet; we see something clearly now- which is in itself a blessing- but what we see isn't beautiful at all.
