‘You have no clue what you're doing': Customer demands to speak to manager after yelling at employee, only to discover the employee is the manager

Fail Blog - Thu, 02/29/2024 - 06:00

Every customer should remind themselves when they go into any type of store, that the employees are there for a reason. They have had training, they probably have been working there for a while, and you are not the first customer walking in. The bottom line is, they know what they're doing. So if you, a customer, come in and ask for a product and an employee tells you that they don't have it, chances are, they don't have it. Calling the employee names or asking to see the manager, will not change the fact that you are not getting that product from them today.

This leads us to this Reddit story. An employee in a food store answered the phone to a customer who asked about a certain product. After checking, the employee tells the customer that they don't have that product, which for some reason, made the customer really mad. He then starts yelling at the employee, telling her she doesn't know how to do her job, and asking for the manager. The unphased employee then informs the customer she is the manager and hangs up the phone.

I wish I could tell you that the customer was done after that, but he was not, so scroll down to read the rest of the story. Once you are done, click here for another story of an employee who got fired the day after his anniversary in the company.

'Nah. My PTO is my PTO': HR demands employees donate their vacation time to coworker's medical leave

Fail Blog - Thu, 02/29/2024 - 05:00

HR's logic doesn't get much more flawed than this. Imagine having a sick coworker who needs to go on medical leave but their employer will only let them do so if the other employees donate their own PTO time to said medical leave.

We have so many questions about the logistics of this. First of all, is the CEO or head honcho going to donate their PTO? Something tells me the answer to that question is a resounding no. Secondly, how is this even allowed? This kind of guilt tripping will make employees resentful. Furthermore, it just goes to show how unprotected everyone is with regards to serious health issues. If I were an employee at this company and if I had received this email. I would immediately start looking for other work, and based on the reactions of folks in the comments section below, clearly I am not the only person who feels this way.

Keep scrolling below for the original email. For more stories like this, here is one about a guy who charged his company hundreds of dollars to get their equipment back.

'You trippin bro...': Guest ignores hotel policy, demanding nonexistent membership points from fed up employee

Fail Blog - Thu, 02/29/2024 - 04:00

It's just not possible to reason with some folks. Certain conversations might be beneficial to have because they might result in a productive dialogue, however, others might not. But are arguments and conflicts in the customer service sector worth engaging in? Or are we fighting an unwinnable war?

The story that follows tells the tale of a hotel front desk employee. The Original Poster (OP) is rarely surprised by privileged clientele because of his vast experience as a customer care representative. However, when a particularly entitled guest arrived at the hotel and insisted on receiving hotel membership reward points despite having made her reservation through a third party, OP realized he was in for a wild ride. According to the terms of the contract, she was not eligible to receive membership reward points for her reservation. And despite OP's repeated attempts to reason with the entitled guest, the guest would not listen...

Without giving too much away, make sure to read the story below to learn the specifics of what transpired and how OP dealt with the entitled customer! When you're finished, don't forget to read the account of the man who, following a long-running neighborly conflict, leaves his noisy neighbor with a farewell gift!

‘He knew the score’: Senior electrician claps back at a power-tripping newbie engineer after getting his seniority insulted, using a power-washer to maliciously comply

Fail Blog - Wed, 02/28/2024 - 17:00

After decades of being a respected employee of a company, nobody ever questions your authority, that is, unless it's that overly ambitious ladder climber who just got hired in the engineering department. For some, humbly taking the appropriate avenues to advance your career just simply isn't fast enough, and to climb the corporate ladder a bit faster, they're willing to step on the necks of those who came before them.

For those entitled, over-zealous types, no job title will ever be satisfyingly senior and they like to ensure all of their coworkers are aware of their superiority–no matter who they have to disrespect around the office.

In our next story, a senior electrician, contented in his title and his authority, squashed the power-hungry jeers of a fellow peer. Although this particular 20-something-year-old engineer was a hot-headed mess, the electrician used his stoic wisdom to totally pop his bubble.

Scroll for the entire story of how a patriarch employee in a company taught a lick of respect to the fiery-hearted, entitled new-hire by (ironically) doing exactly as he was told.

'I was feeling particularly petty that day': Boss gets fired after forcing employee to work while having the stomach flu

Fail Blog - Wed, 02/28/2024 - 16:00

Back in the day, it was practically a sin to even think about using up your PTO or daring to call in sick. The workforce used to be caught up in this whole grind mentality that just chewed people up and spat them out. And even though things are slowly changing, there's sometimes still a gap between generations when it comes to work-life balance. Some folks out there still cling to the idea that burning yourself out is some kind of badge of honor. And you know what's the absolute worst? When that kind of mindset infects your boss.

So, let me tell you about this one boss who clearly hadn't got the memo. This poor employee, working away in the food service industry, ended up catching a nasty case of the stomach flu. To most folks, that's a pretty solid reason to call in sick, right? But not to this boss. Apparently, having the stomach flu wasn't a good enough excuse, especially when there was nobody to cover the poor employee's shift.

So, what does this employee do? Well, feeling particularly petty that day, he decided to drag himself into work anyway. And you can probably guess what went down next.

Error 404 Brain Cell Not Found: 30 Orange Cats So Impawsibly Cute You Won't Even Notice Their Lack of Grey Matter

LOL Cats - Wed, 02/28/2024 - 16:00

Hey cat lovers! Everyone always thinks that their pet is the most special creature on the planet–that is, every pet owner apart from orange cat people. While orange cat owners are still proud cat lovers and they still love their little ginger beast, anyone who's ever had an orange cat can attest that they're not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Vibrant as their coats may be, orange cats are not very bright in the grey matter department.

Goofy, silly, uncoordinated, and chock full of purrsonality, orange cats give us more than the feline intelligence and prowess of another breed. Orange cats have a superpower to make anyone (including people who don't even like cats) come around and learn to love kitties. Quirky, odd, and a little off-balance, orange cats captivate the hearts of any cat lover. So even though we know they're not the smartest kittens in the neighborhood, they're certainly the sweetest and the cutest. So let's ban together, my fellow orange cat lovers! Below is an homage to the single collective brain cell that all orange cats share–here's hoping that today yours can get a hold of it.

'We paid for everything': Guy invites ex on vacation, ex demands to be reimbursed for petty purchases

Fail Blog - Wed, 02/28/2024 - 14:00

Would you vacation with your ex? Some folks would, some wouldn't. It depends on your relationship with them: can you still trust them, do you still get along, will everyone actually have a good time? These are all good questions to consider.

This dude, u/rduncang, writes that their relationship with their ex-wife has changed throughout the years. Things went well in their post-marriage life at first. However, after a few years, the ex's daughter began stealing from the OP (original poster). That's not even the craziest part, though. The daughter stole from the OP while her mom, the OP, and both couples' new partners were all on vacation together. She basically took advantage of the vacation, knowing that the OP's house would be totally empty for a few days.

Now that this dude had to file a police report, their ex-wife has been increasingly annoyed at them. It seems like she wants revenge, but she knows that her own daughter was in the wrong for stealing.

Not to mention that the OP claims they paid for everything on the trip! If someone is gracious enough to pay for your vacation, you should be properly thankful… but this ex-wife is acting like she's the one who was wronged.

Check out the whole malicious compliance story below. Then, have a laugh at these people who were so sure they were right, only to be told by their friends that they were completely wrong

'When I moved out they billed me $1500 for breach of contract': Tenants share their landlord horror stories

Fail Blog - Wed, 02/28/2024 - 13:00

Surviving a terrible landlord at one point in your adult life feels like securing a badge of honor. Sure, everyone has to deal with the usual landlord issues, whether that's an inexplicable rent increase or a refusal to fix an appliance, but there comes a time when your landlord goes too far and you need to stand up for yourself.

These landlord horror stories were compiled from the following r/AskReddit thread, and it just goes to show that even if you're a good landlord, stories like this are bound to get around and will make people assume you're the worst kind of person. Some of these stories involve entire buildings getting shut down by power companies, fabricated excessive charges, and hiring unqualified workers to do jobs. A few of these scenarios, thankfully, resulted in more triumphant endings, as some tenants took their landlords to court and won. Keep scrolling below for the full anecdotes. When you're done, take a look at these top Karens from this past week.

'We now have a family rule that my mom can't blog about anyone else': 20+ Social media oversharers who need to be unfriended

Fail Blog - Wed, 02/28/2024 - 12:00

Social media is always evolving, but people have been oversharing online since day one.

In the heyday of Facebook (now Meta), the place started off as being a cool teen hangout spot. It was you and your teenage friends playing games and updating your relationship statuses and instant messaging back and forth. At first, older adults weren't really on the platform. But once they discovered it, suddenly everyone's weird uncle and oversharing aunt were on Facebook, ready to post ten times a day about their oddest opinions and every thought passing through their mind. Now when you and your teen friends posted thirty photos about your trip to the mall, your relatives would be in the comments talking about your clothes or wondering why you haven't called them back.

Some people hopped onto social media and seemingly never stopped posting. It's a great way to stay in touch with your friends, relatives, and several hundred strangers. For a certain type of person, sharing their day online is how they feel connected. Only their closest confidants care about the yogurt your kid is eating for breakfast or the intimate health details of your ailing pet, but that won't stop people from blasting this information to the world. When u/Feixuen asked people to share "the worst case of over-sharing you've experienced on social media," the comments were absolutely wild. You can check it all out below.

Next up, this job candidate got the surprise of a lifetime on "bring your kid to work day," when he realized that his interviewer was an 11-year-old

Boss tries to take her employee's first class seat upgrade: 'She wanted to talk to me about my lack of respect for protocol'

Fail Blog - Wed, 02/28/2024 - 11:00

It's almost inevitable that traveling with your boss will lead to an uncomfortable situation. These unforeseen circumstances typically cannot be prevented, but at the end of the day, you're forced to navigate a cringeworthy dynamic with your employer that will make returning to the office after the work trip all the more bizarre and challenging. These cringe moments can include an odd quirk or eccentricity you learn about your boss or your boss learns about you. For instance, I once had a boss learn the hard way that I sleep with my mouth open on flights. This was obviously not the plan, and I wish my former employer could unsee that sight.

Another kind of uncomfortable interaction on a work trip can relate to toxic hierarchical structures. This Redditor shared their story of how their frequent traveling resulted in a seat upgrade to first class. However, somehow their boss thought that they should be entitled to the upgrade simply because she's the boss. She even requested that the two have a one-on-one conversation after the trip about "respecting protocol." Keep scrolling below to see how the original poster responded. For more stories like this, here is one about an interviewer who brought their kid to work.

'Purchaser had one job....JUST ONE!': Product purchaser gets reamed by the CEO after doubting a diligent employee, afterwards the little guy gets a promotion

Fail Blog - Wed, 02/28/2024 - 10:00

Middlemen are a concept created by upper management to keep the underlings in line, but are they even necessary? When a company gets too big or when there are too many little employees to handle, CEOs and other suits like to keep their hands clean of too much extra work, thus, hiring a stable boy to watch the horses while they're away on their yacht. It would be baffling to imagine that any entry-level employee could supersede the genius of middle management, right?

Alas, CEOs will still look down on their herd through the glass floor, wondering if there are any rising stars amongst them–but in our next story, a heroic little guy in a production warehouse proves his worth by accidentally undermining the middle managers above him.

To prove his competency, this particular warehouse employee tried to show initiative in the warehouse, taking it upon himself to help out the product purchaser with inventory shortages. But because the prejudice of the management position blinded his manager, he didn't trust a mere underling. Eventually, that came back to bite him in this epic story of malicious compliance.

Scroll onward to read how this middle manager arbitrated himself and threatened his own position with the company by doubting a diligent employee.
