'All I did was settle the score': IT employee gets manager fired after finding a bug in code that allows entire company to access clientele

Sat, 01/13/2024 - 09:00

Finding work is harder than it looks. We don't even begin to consider all the little details that go into our future careers when we apply for a job. like, off the top of my mind, a mandatory background check?

In the story below, OP runs the risk of losing his job because his background check does not match the information he provided on his resume or in his interviews. However because he was forced to sign a confidentiality agreement with his prior employers, OP failed to disclose some of the companies he had worked for, much to the hiring manager's dismay. In OP's industry, confidentiality agreements are rather usual; yet, the new recruiting manager appeared to ignore this fact and threatened to immediately terminate the contract.

In return, OP devises a cunning scheme to exact revenge on the hiring manager instead of caving into his intimidation. I won't give too much away, but read the story below to learn more about what transpired with the recruiting manager, what happened to OP in the end, and how OP was able to flip the script in such a dramatic way! And when you've finished scrolling, check out the story about the bank that declined a customer's request to close an account over $0.51 in remaining funds!

Update: 'You all took it up a notch': Sarcastic development team realizes they're 'actually able to do nothing' following boss's new directions

Sat, 01/13/2024 - 08:00

This development team got away with something that would probably get most people fired in an instant. Not only that, but they were able to update the r/MaliciousCompliance community on how everything went down the next day.

Bosses are always trying to optimize their workers' outputs. They want to seem like their team is strong and is working harder than ever. But how should a manager prove to their own bosses what their team is up to? They could just talk to their employees and be involved in their day-to-day activities, putting them front and center of where all the work is being completed. They could work up some KPIs so the employees know what goals they're working towards. But no, that's way too much work for some higher-ups. Instead, they could take the easiest route possible---instating mandatory daily logs.

There's no boss in the world who will read through every employee's tedious accounts of what they do each day. That seems way harder than just checking in with your people. I imagine these bosses learned a lesson about putting their faith in their employees… but only after the development team had finished their dramatic stunt.

After you check out this tale, take a look at these mildly infuriating moments, like one person who apparently got the world's most hazardous milkshake.

'I would be upping the stinky food game': High school secretary of 20+ years loves her job until she gets a new office mate, internet provides both helpful and petty solutions

Sat, 01/13/2024 - 07:00

We're humans, our species is all about evolution and embracing change. But on the other hand, we also love a routine. Why change something if it ain't broken? Unfortunately, sometimes well-meaning bosses will intervene and change something at work that they think will help, but actually does the opposite.

This high school secretary loves her job and has loved it for over 20 years. She loves all the kids, parents, and her co-workers. She worked closely with one co-worker she calls Tammy. They have gotten along swimmingly since Tammy started several years ago, but because of a certain change, things have been going downhill fast. You see, OP was out for a month with pneumonia. During this time, her boss moved Tammy into her office to "make things easier." Turns out, however, that Tammy is not quite the people person they all thought she was. Not to mention she needs to do her job without any interruptions. OP turned to Reddit to get suggestions on how to remedy the situation and they came through exactly how you would imagine the internet would come through.

Off duty retail worker plays along when Karen mistakes him for an employee: 'Stop harassing other shoppers'

Sat, 01/13/2024 - 06:00

Being a retail veteran means that you're nearly immune to the tactics of wily entitled customers, hardened to the core with the scar tissue of encounters with other customers—that or just completely dead inside—but it's all the same thing, really. Even if you leave the retail industry far behind, you remember the way people can act toward retail staff long afterward and how it's almost like people become another person when they begin talking to someone they deem to be a "servant" and beneath them.

This retail veteran had left his career in retail far behind him by the time he encountered this wild Karen. The two had a confrontation after she mistook him for an employee of the store that they were both shopping in. He, easygoing and keen for a joke, decided to play along and began to spin the Karen up, feeding in to her entitled delusion.

'If you don't like it you can just leave!': Student challenges difficult substitute teacher with her own ultimatum

Sat, 01/13/2024 - 05:00

Generally speaking, teachers deserve respect; that is, unless they are completely out of line. In this case, we are dealing with a combination of both of these issues. Any substitute teacher knows that it is particularly difficult to get the undivided attention of your students when their real teacher is not present. Kids will be kids, so we have empathy for a frustrated substitute who is simply trying to get through a lesson plan. Still, shouting at a group of kids is never going to gain their respect. So when this woman gave the class an ultimatum and told them that if they wanted to leave, they should do so… well, you can just imagine what happened next.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/ENC_SWDV_Rush, who may have also been partially out of line here. That being said, there is nothing more satisfying than challenging an authority figure with their own language to prove a point. If only we could take this energy into our adult lives with our managers and supervisors. Keep scrolling below for the full story. When you're done, check out this post about some juicy neighborhood drama.

Business refuses to pay analyst $70k, costs them $1.8M: 'Now comes the revenge'

Sat, 01/13/2024 - 04:00

Honesty and sticking to your word are important, and while you might get away with being dishonest for a while, sooner or later, it's going to come back to haunt you.

‘Uno reverse card played’: New woodwork shop president fires employee for discovering insider theft, employee then tricks company out of $11,000 and wins $400

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 17:00

Want to have a good laugh about a shady company getting its comeuppance? Then, boy, did we find the story for you! There's no laugh quite as hearty as one you have reading about a nefarious upper management getting what they deserve.

This upper management team started going downhill when a new president was hired. A members-funded woodwork shop in Australia had a very expensive piece of machinery that nobody knew how to use. A couple of employees took it upon themselves to learn and fix up this old machine to make it serviceable—and they did! So it started getting used and helping the shop to make a small profit. However, one of these ambitious employees discovered a theft happening inside the company and when he brought it up to the new president, he was fired. Shady AF. Luckily, he was the only one who knew how to use the machine and he happened to leave the emergency stop on. So the evil upper management thought it was broken. This is when the now ex-employee took his revenge and tricked the company out of making $11k and he won $400 in wagers on his revenge. We can't make this stuff up—read it below!

'I'm gonna bring the food back': Food delivery woman refuses to give customer his food because the drive took too long

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 16:00

There is no question that customers should always be generous with tipping when they can, but this food delivery driver took things way too far. She started to shout at the customer to try to convince him to come out and talk to her because she had a bone to pick with the restaurant he chose to order from…

One has to wonder what possessed this woman to feel like she had a say in where he chose to order his food. She claimed that the restaurant was simply too far and that it was a 40 minute drive, when in reality, according to any reputable mapping website, the drive should have been 15 minutes max. However, she still wasn't having it. The best part about the video is that the guy refuses to bend to her will and never comes out to confront her. And why should he? She was being way too intense. Case in point: she left with his food.

'He needs more money than his brother': Father gives younger son bigger inheritance than the older, based on their in-laws’ financial state

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 15:00

Money is never an easy subject to bring up within a family. No matter how close you are to your parents or siblings, talking about salaries, inheritances, or wills will always be awkward.

That is why I think as parents, you have to be sensible and honest if you end up in a spot where you have to bring these subjects up. Do not try to sugarcoat anything, but talk to your kids like the adults they probably are. That is the advice I would personally give this person who turned to Reddit for advice. He and his spouse are considering giving a bigger amount of their inheritance to the younger of their two kids, with the reasoning that the younger kid is less financially stable than his older brother. After talking about that option with friends, OP realized this decision might be a mistake, and turned to Reddit for advice. The comments are surprisingly split between sympathy and accusation, but I think everyone can agree this man should be more considerate of his sons.

It took them about 3 seconds to realize': Worker commutes 6 hours each day, client complains about his repeated lateness

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 14:00

If you think you have a bad commute, just wait until you hear about this guy's drive.

Commuting is the bane of many workers' existence. Whether it's a ten-minute bike ride or a two-hour car ride, you have to do it every day. Long commutes can be particularly exhausting---you arrive to work and you're already tired from driving or taking the train. If you do take public transit, there's a chance you can read or stream a TV show on your phone. But it's just a chance, because if you're packed in like sardines with the rest of the world's commuters, that might not be an option.

Drivers can opt to listen to the radio while they drive. You can't always escape the traffic, though. At least with the radio, you can sing along to your tunes as you wait to merge.

This dude would have to bring hours of music to manage his commute, though. This poor soul, Dave, was working an office job that required him to drive for 6 hours every day! Three hours each way is a massive commute. Just imagine if you suddenly had to sacrifice 6 hours of your day, five days a week. It would be an insane way to live. Poor Dave was probably barely sleeping… He must have left the house and 6 AM, and gotten back at 8 PM, and that's if traffic is perfect. Check out his story below!

Next up, this nightmare client demanded an IT team start sending him all of his emails… even the ones they'd usually filter out.

'You love me? You don't know anything about me!': Top Tinder Moments of the Week (January 12, 2024)

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 13:00

This one goes out to people who are trying to put themselves out there this year! It's not easy to get on the apps and start swiping, especially when the other singletons on said apps are ridiculous humans who need to be called out on their nonsensical behavior.

From people who are strangely into the fact that their potential date has other single roommates to folks who boldly acknowledge that their love language is "manipulation in all its forms," the wild world of Tinder has continued to maintain its place as a cesspool of bizarre people. If there is one thing to give those bizarre people credit for, though, it's their ability to be unapologetic about their weird quirks and eccentricities. You have to hand it to these guys: they are going for it in a way that epitomizes the definition of the phrase "all or nothing."

Keep scrolling below for the full list of this week's Top Tinder Moments. When you're done, check out this collection of toxic coworkers.

Update: 'By the end of the day, they will not have an IT company': Nightmare client orders IT company to deliver 'any email addressed to me'

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 12:00

Be careful what you wish for… I'm sure this IT company's client was really regretful about the can of worms he opened.

It helps to have a good sense of humor in the workplace, and it's especially useful while dealing with clients. Clients can be unpredictable. Some want to be completely hands-off, and let the firm they hired handle everything. They'll just be yes-men about any project as long as things are going well. Others want to be more involved and will ask for frequent updates. Then there are people who are just impossible to work with, like the dude in this poor IT workers' story.

The client called up and he was upset that he wasn't getting his emails. That happens to us all from time to time, and it is a frustrating experience. When you're waiting on a time-sensitive email, and you've checked for it in every folder, you start to get impatient. In a world where lots of digital actions happen immediately, like sending a text, some emails still take a minute to travel to the other side of the interwebs.

'Your store had to refund [me] $10,000': Customer gets back at power-tripping manager's nonsense policy

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 11:00

Stores with ridiculous policies are practically begging for drama. The only thing worse in a retail conflict than an entitled customer is a manager on a power trip. Most of the time when you find yourself in a situation like this, you roll your eyes and accept the bogus policy, but every once in a while, you just cannot bring yourself to go along with such nonsense. That's when these managers need to be careful because this is perhaps the only time when irate customers are justified in trying to make things difficult to prove their point. Now, nine times out of ten, we at FAIL Blog support the retail workers in these customer service horror stories, but here's one case when the customer actually was right.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/pettyrevenge subreddit by u/Ia_ja, who walked into a wine store at the same time as a total stranger. This led the manager to believe that they were a party, so when OP went to check out long after the stranger left the store, the manager insisted that OP bring the stranger back inside so their ID could be checked. Even after OP tried to clear up the misunderstanding, the manager was insistent. So OP couldn't make the purchase and went home to devise a plan for some well-deserved petty revenge.

Keep scrolling below to find out how the manager ended up having to refund OP $10,000 for a new order. When you're done, check out this post about some more bogus HOA fines.

'My friend here took half [of your money]': Realtor snubs interested buyer, loses 50% of her commission

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 10:00

Have you ever seen the classic Julia Roberts film Pretty Woman? Remember the scene where she walks into a fancy retail shop and the women refuse to serve her because they thought she looked too poor, but then got hooked up by Richard Gere's character? Then she went back to that store and told them they made a big "HUGE" mistake. Well, that is what happened here but in real life and with an entitled realtor instead of retail workers.

'I wouldn't budge': Tenant finds a clever way to get even with landlord after finding landlord's family members in their swimming pool, reciting terms of lease right back to him

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 09:00

Renting a house from a third party has benefits and drawbacks. Of course, maintenance is one of the apparent benefits, but no matter how lovely or cozy the apartment is, the drawbacks, depending on how severe they are, can make or break a transaction.

In the story below, OP  is working at the job of his dreams. His employer has ensured that he would be as comfortable as possible in his new role by arranging for the necessary accommodations beforehand. Theoretically, everything could not have gone more smoothly; in reality, though, the lovely house that OP has rented out is owned by an arrogant landlord who feels he still has the right to use the property whenever he pleases, because, contract or no contract, it is his property and he can use its utilities whenever he pleases.

The swimming pool is officially on the property that OP is now occupying, but the landlord has allowed his family members to use it. According to the landlord, there is no mention of a pool in the contract, so legally speaking, he has no control over it. OP attempted but was unable, to win over the landlord with reason. Therefore, he devised the most brilliant revenge scheme. Check out the story below to see how OP handled the situation! And when you're finished, don't forget to read another story about a woman who demands a stranger share her ginger 'candy' with her kid!

'I started using the timer for everything': Micromanaging boss accuses employee of "cheating the company"

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 08:00

As if this person didn't have enough to do already, their boss started requiring some detailed daily logs from his employee.

Micromanager bosses are difficult to work for. Instead of just doing the job you were hired to do, you also have to manage your boss's emotions. Some days your boss will assume you're not doing any work, and will flip out over nothing. Other days, they'll praise you for working so hard. And lots of bosses demand you write out intricate logs of your day. Will they ever read these logs? Of course not. It's just a way to waste the employee's time while making them feel like they're under a microscope.

27 Retail Employees Compete for the 'Most Audacious Customer' Award

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 07:00

As every retail employee knows, shoppers change their persona when they walk into a store. Nobody knows how or why, but even the most benevolent people can transform into feral Karens as soon as they walk in front of a store cashier, pillaging the aisles like there's no tomorrow. Armed to the teeth with coupons and complaints, customers are ready to pirate the best deals of the day, even if the sales are imaginary; so when a retail pro tells you that they've seen it all, they've seen it aaaaall.

"He fell for it so easily': Entitled man steals over $7,000 from friends, revenge strikes when they make him fly cross-country and stand him up with $400 bill

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 06:00

After being a part of a close-knit social circle for some time, one of the friends within the group began showing some problematic behavior. Over time, this so-called friend's behavior continued to deteriorate and spiral out of control. What started innocently enough with him 'borrowing' money from some friends and failing to pay them back evolved into outright stealing. Even though he repeatedly denied it, the friends knew that this guy who called himself a businessman actually made his money by taking advantage of others.

Rather than immediately severing ties, the group hesitated, giving him the benefit of the doubt. As the stealing went on and the entitled friend accumulated over $7,000 from the group combined, they had no other option but to get revenge and give him a taste of his own medicine. Surprisingly, he never saw it coming...

'I'm going to have to reject your application': New hire goes in to sign contract only for the offer to get rescinded

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 05:00

Imagine getting a job offer and going to sign the paperwork to make it official, only to learn that your new bosses changed their minds. Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. It's not exactly that they changed their minds, but it's more that they didn't exactly review the availability you put down on your initial application carefully enough. Clearly, they wanted someone with full-time availability for a part-time position, a classic move from employers who have no moral code.

This thread was posted to Reddit by u/skyhawk214, who shared the initial job offer they received via email before the offer was immediately rescinded. We empathize with OP's frustration here, as this is not the first time we've come across a story where a job applicant made something clear from the very beginning and that was not honored. We should all know by now that an interview process is a two-way street, and both parties should make their intentions and expectations clear from the get-go to have a smooth hiring process. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that it's harder to get that transparency from potential employers than anyone else.

Keep scrolling below for the full story and for the best reactions. For more, check out this post about a retail employee's payback.

Customer sets manager straight for being impolite to his staff: 'I hope he was momentarily embarrassed'

Fri, 01/12/2024 - 04:00

They say the customer is always right, even though that's usually not the case; this time, however, the customer was very right indeed when they put a manager in their place who was being impolite to their staff in front of the customers.
