Employee quits job, boss begs them to help, employee agrees to do it for $150 an hour: 'Took 5 minutes to find the error, fixed it, hung up'

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 14:00
This boss was helpless without his best employee.

It isn't always easy to quit a job for money reasons. You might think about how you enjoy the office culture, the laid-back coworkers you have, or the good benefits. But at the end of the day, the amount of money you're bringing in really determines your quality of life, doesn't it? Money buys you long, luxurious vacations, it buys you quality food, nice daycare options for your kids, handsome clothing and new cars that'll never break down. So when this employee was denied a raise, they did the economically smart thing of leaving that job for a new one.

However, they shared how things went down during that last week of work, and it's quite the interesting tale. They spent that time writing out a lengthy document — 40 pages! — and apparently, no one else bothered to read it. And on that note, the employee left for greener pastures. Until…

Songwriter records love song for BF, he "surprises" her by picking flowers off a bush at 10:30 at night: 'He had a backup plan... he had me drive him to 7-Eleven'

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 12:00
This couple had wildly unequal gifts for each other, and it might have a serious impact on their relationship going forward.

Sometimes I think that Valentine's Day makes almost no one fully happy. Single people try to treat themselves to a nice day out, but it's still lonesome when everyone around you is paired up and in love. But that grass isn't always greener. A lot of couples discover that they're truly unhappy with each other on big romantic days like this, often due to mismatches over expectations of the day. Many couples will go out to a nice dinner and a movie, but one of the people in that relationship will see a TikTok where a BF got his GF tons of gifts and a 5-star hotel getaway, and spend the rest of the night envious of that couple.

This person's story is especially unfortunate, as she wrote while she ate some post-heartbreak chow mein noodles…

Employee changes strategy to "show, not tell" his boss that his ideas are terrible: 'I didn't have to say a word. He saw the error himself'

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 11:00
The best way to show your boss that something isn't feasible is to show them evidence.

This employee gained an unfortunate reputation for complaining, but it wasn't entirely his fault. After all, his boss developed a habit of frequently enforcing unrealistic deadlines and expectations that simply were not possible for a small team to execute.

Every time the author tried to reason with his boss about these unrealistic expectations in meetings, his boss shut him down, immediately dismissing his protestations as mere complaining.

In reality, of course, this was far more than complaining. This was a hard-working employee with a grounded sense of what is possible, anticipating what will inevitably be a problem. In his boss's eyes, however, the employee was simply shirking his responsibilities and demonstrating a lack of desire to buckle down and do the work.

This gave the author an idea that would ultimately pay off.

Homeowner blocks a delivery truck in her driveway because the driver calls her names after she asks why he parked on her property: ‘He suddenly had nothing to say’

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 10:00
All he had to do was introduce himself when he parked in this homeowner's driveway, but because he acted snide and entitled instead, she decided to give him a taste of how petty she could be.

If a random stranger pulls up in your driveway while you're sitting on your porch with a coffee and the newspaper in hand, any normal person would wave hello and engage in some normal pleasantries. While politeness isn't a trait as widely available as it should be, this delivery driver dropped all sense of decorum when he left tire marks on a woman's driveway, and instead of attempting an air of kindness, he retorted with uncouth comments and name-calling, earning him a semi-permanent parking spot in her driveway whether he liked it or not.

Boss demands that employees remain at their desks and tell him what they're doing every time they get up, they comply and message him so often that he is forced to reverse the order: 'Last week I sent him 9 messages in one day'

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 09:00
An employee whose boss complained about staff getting up to leave their desks too often messaged him every time they got up to do anything, forcing their boss to overturn their order through the sheer ridiculousness of the number of requests.

Infantilization of the workforce is all too common in many organizations. There seems to be this understanding that authoritarian parenting is somehow the same as leadership, and that greater rules and restrictions are the only way to solve problems. What they don't realize is that many of these same rules do little but enforce rigidity, guaranteeing the organization will stifle creativity and enter a slow nose-dive, seemingly maintaining altitude but locked up and drifting.

24-year-old tells shy best friend Emily that her 25-year-old BF Tyler is about to propose to her: 'I'm in the middle of their relationship drama'

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 08:00
Did this woman just ruin her best friend's proposal… on purpose?

Sometimes your best friend, the most perfect person in the world, starts seriously dating some random guy. He's like, okay. But he's never perfect for her, and you know it. He'll get her a romance book as a gift when she only likes sci-fi, or he'll avoid talking to her all day, making her upset, and yet she still won't break things off with him. It can be hard to watch your best friend fall in love with some guy who doesn't love her as much as she deserves! And of course, you have to be supportive, because she's not going to leave him anytime soon, but still… that worry remains in the back of your head.

This person had a choice to make about how to handle an issue between her best friend and the BFF's boyfriend. A proposal was imminent! But the way this guy was planning to go about it would've been just utterly, entirely wrong for the BFF's personality.

However… the way she went about "fixing" things has people totally divided. Some people think she didn't do a good enough job of redirecting the BF. Let's take a look at the now-deleted story that I saved from obscurity —  then we'll discuss what everyone is buzzing about.

Job applicant pressured to do an unpaid trial shift before his interview: 'I got up to leave!'

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 06:00
This manager had some audacity in asking a candidate to cover for sick workers before an official interview.

The obscene request only speaks to two potential possibilities here, neither of which is reflective of a healthy workplace environment. The first possibility is that the hiring manager is an extremely entitled individual who simply does not possess the awareness that her request was absurd. I wish we could know for sure that this lady knew exactly what she was doing, but she could very well have a warped sense of what is appropriate to ask of a job applicant.

The second possibility is that the hiring manager is just that desperate. Of course, that only speaks to her inability to pivot and strategize when several of her employees call in sick. That being said, asking a candidate to step in should never be an option.

Hairstylist refuses to continue doing her cousin's hair for free after she complains that she ‘overcharged’ for $30 of product expenses: 'I am done, go to a salon and pay full price'

Mon, 02/16/2026 - 14:00
She was only charging her cousin $30 for braid work that required a full day of work, and even after a year of doing her cousin's hair for free, the relative still complained about being overcharged.

The service industry is tough for small business owners. When you're selling a service, over a product, oftentimes, customers will get the idea that they can haggle, devaluing the time and expertise required to perform that service. This is extremely apparent in the world of hair styling. For some reason, when customers buy a product, the price is set, and that's that. There's no arguing the cost of an iPhone at the Apple store or a laptop computer at the electronics store. The price marked is the price you pay. And yet, when it comes to services, those principles don't apply anymore.

Suddenly, the proprietor providing those services must be open to discussion surrounding their pricing, and customers lose all sense of normal purchasing instinct.

This goes double for family members of a hairstylist.

After spending a lifetime as a hair style guinea pig to their now-professional family member, relatives feel entitled not only to special pricing but maybe even services free of charge. This is convoluted, though, because despite knowing that a loved one relies on the income from their professional career, relatives will still insist on getting some freebies.

A cousin started to take advantage of the family discount with a family member who was a professional hair stylist. After over a year of coming in on a weekly basis, stealing weekends, and making her cousin work double overtime to get her hair just right, she started bringing along her kids and, evetually, their friends. Now, everyone was demanding free hair styling. They say that if you give an inch, family members will take a yard, but this cousin took more than that, she started negligently stealing her famiyl member's time and money

So when the hairstylist finally mustered the courage to call her out, she decided that it seemed fair to simply charge her cousin for the products that they used. Frankly, for a service that normally costs upwards of $500, a $30 product fee was still a steal. But this entitled cousin wanted free free, not the new family discount.

Employee gets doctor's note to excuse them from being on-camera during video calls, boss balks at their excuse: 'This is completely unacceptable in my opinion'

Mon, 02/16/2026 - 12:00
This boss is trying to figure out if their employee is asking for an accommodation in good faith, or if they're just not suited for their job.

Workplace accommodations are generally a very good and important thing, and we should never take for granted that we've made huge strides in employee equality through them.

However, you might know a person or 2 who takes advantage of their accommodations, and it gives the entire concept a bad name.

This boss is wondering if their employee is doing exactly that with their new request, and it's an odd one, to be sure.

‘The Pitt’ is the Latest “Tough Watch” That has Somehow Become Comfort TV

Mon, 02/16/2026 - 11:00
The Emmy-winning medical drama has proven to be a beloved, bingeable series despite, or maybe even because of, its disturbing subject matter.

Now in its second season, HBO Max's The Pitt has shown no signs of slowing down in terms of buzz and viewership. In fact, the first episode of this latest season alone garnered over 7 million viewers in its first week, well surpassing its average weekly viewership for season one. Because of this massive audience growth, a third season has already been greenlit.

The one-hour drama set entirely in the emergency room of a fictional hospital in Pittsburgh follows a staff of doctors, nurses, and interns as they try to keep up with the pace and intensity of a 15-hour work shift. When The Pitt first premiered in 2024, it was praised for its unflinching medical accuracy. If you haven't yet watched it, you should expect plenty of gory internal organs, risky surgeries, and traumatized medical professionals. Yet no matter how far the writers of The Pitt go to portray a variety of shocking medical cases, audiences continue to eat it up. Some folks have even gone so far as to refer to The Pitt as a "comfort" watch. This begs the question: Why is a show that is, at times, intentionally uncomfortable so comforting?

Like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the Chicago Med/Fire/P.D. franchise, and various true crime dramas, The Pitt falls into the same category of endlessly watchable procedurals about gruesome incidents that can occur to ordinary people. Audiences yearn for the disturbing stories that could foreseeably happen to anyone. The key, however, is where the comfort comes in. For many of these shows, that important factor has to do with humane portraits of everyday heroes like actor Mariska Hargitay's character, Detective Olivia Benson, or, in the case of The Pitt, Noah Wyle's character, Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinovitch.

Employee makes it to a final interview and the company lowballs them, claims the $60-80k range they posted was ‘aspirational’: ‘Is this even legal’

Mon, 02/16/2026 - 10:00
The salary discussion at the end of the interview process can be uncomfortable.

At the end of the day, we all work to make some coin. Money will always be a large factor in our decision to accept or refuse a job offer. Salary transparency laws in some states, including my good ol' state of New York, are crucial in forcing companies to put their financial cards on the table. How can we comfortably say we want to work for a company if we don't know how we'll be compensated? Money talks, that's for sure.

If you really want to work for the company you're interviewing with, you probably express that although you'd love it if they offered you the top of the range, you're more excited about the opportunity to work there. Never say a number first, by the way. That's how they get you to undersell yourself! The thing to remember is that, more often than not, the company you're interviewing with will ask more than what your job duties state upon hire. With that in mind, remember to dream big, and by big, I mean big dollar signs.

The job seeker who shared the story below explains that they were interviewing with a company that gave a broad range in their job description, but during the final interview, they were lowballed by $15k. Yep. $15k below bottom range. The employee confronts the interviewer, who then mentions a ludicrous statement about listing an "aspirational" salary range for the position… not one that they are actually capable of paying. Maybe they should've informed prospective employees before they went through the whole process, perhaps? Scroll below to read the full story.

Employee turns the tables, uses micromanaging boss's own reports to trick her and expose her hypocrisy in her criticism of his work: 'I found the folder online and used her past work verbatim'

Mon, 02/16/2026 - 09:00

Sometimes it can feel like there's no winning in life. No matter what you do, say, or contribute, there's always some fault, something to take issue with. Working with someone who is like this, especially when it is your boss, is miserable. Over time, their incessant nitpicking remarks about your work can leave you questioning your aptitude and abilities. Even those with the most iron-clad self-confidence may find themselves wondering if it's them or their boss.

Boss discovers remote employee lying about their location: 'Can I fire them immediately for this?'

Mon, 02/16/2026 - 08:00
This employee works remotely, but they weren't exactly honest with their boss about which country they've been working from!

Should a remote-work employee have to disclose where they're actually working from? I can't imagine this is a problem that comes up often, so it makes sense that this confused boss is asking for advice.

Why in the world would an employee lie about where they are in the world? In the age of VPNs that can hide your location, it's not impossible, but a smart tech team could still probably figure out an employee's location without breaking a sweat. It's an awfully strange thing to do… If you work remotely, it shouldn't matter so much where you're logging in from each day. But for this boss, it actually matters a great deal.

As they shared in their request for help below, the employee seems to be traveling quite a bit, and perhaps they've been lying by omission. They're supposed to be in the UK, but they seem to have moved without telling anyone, and are just letting everyone assume they're traveling all the time. No idea why they'd want to do this charade… Read the boss's account below, and see why the boss is so worried about this.

A Lunchbox of 36 Work Memes to Satisfy Your Midday Craving for Laughs

Mon, 02/16/2026 - 06:00
Wearing multiple hats in public would look totally silly, but these days, "wearing many hats" in the workplace is basically a resume requirement.

Anyone who's applied for a job in the last, hmm, let's say, 10 years, has felt the burn of needing to be multifaceted. Despite the degrees, the experience, and the innate charisma of a desperate prospect, job seekers are pressured to take on way more than the average employee and are expected to have the same level of work ethic even after they've been onboarded. As if getting hired isn't a full-time job on its own, with some job offers requiring 1-2 months of interviews, back-and-forths, and "we'll get back to yous," once an interviewee is officially hired, that's when the real work begins

Suddenly, management expects workers to take on more and more, until their job description hardly resembles what they were promised in their offer letter.

As if being a hard worker wasn't enough, once an employee has transcended and become irreplaceable, they must take on many new roles, putting on as many hats as they can fit on their heads. Not literally, of course, but to a company, ie: the overlords who control your paycheck, wearing multiple hats in the workplace just means that you're a single employee who's willing to take on many different job positions without a title change or a raise. "Huzzah!" say the higher-ups, cheering on the other side of their glass ceiling because, from the views of their ivory tower, all they see are hard-working little worker bees buzzing below. On the surface, we are a "family," but in reality, if an employer demands their workforce take on more work than what's possible in a 9-5 capacity, that's not a relative relationship anymore.

Luckily, we have the good fortune of being wiser than that, giving 100% of what we're due for in pay and cashing out every 10-minute break, every lunch, and every speck of PTO until we climb the ladder and earn the title of a single, perfectly fitting hat. Until then, workers have memes to help them get through the shift, laughing with their favorite coworker until 5 PM rolls along, and we repeat the process once more.

Employee gets even with critical boss by using her flawed format for submitting reports before quitting: 'I hope you're having a bad day, Paula. You deserve it!'

Mon, 02/16/2026 - 05:00
This bank employee felt that her manager was after her. She was right.

In any professional environment, you may eventually get the feeling that a coworker or boss doesn't like you very much. At first, you might consider that you're just being paranoid. But after a while, you start to compile evidence that you are being treated more harshly than the other employees in your office.

This author started to feel like there was nothing she could do to impress her manager, Paula. Whenever she submitted her weekly reports, Paula always criticized her work without fail. It got to the point where there was clearly some personal vendetta going on, and the author was determined to prove Paula wrong.

Parent refuses to let 16-year-old daughter's boyfriend get her a promise ring: 'I was stunned but ultimately I told him no...16 is too young'

Sun, 02/15/2026 - 14:00
These 16-year-olds who are dating are already talking about a ring, much to the surprise of the teens' parents!

At just 16 years old, these teens are in their first serious relationship. They come from different family backgrounds, but when you go to school with someone, those things don't seem to matter as much. You build a friend group together, have a few classes together (or a shared lunch period if you're lucky!), and try to hang out after school, too. You might envision a whole future with that person! But at such a young age, that just might not be realistic.

Some people stay with their high school sweethearts forever. They get married, have a bunch of kids, and never leave their hometowns. That seems to work out well for a lot of people, honestly. But another large segment of that high school's graduating class is going to go off to different colleges across the US. No matter how much you promise to keep in touch with your friends and that boyfriend or girlfriend, college changes everything.

'Memes are back on the menu, boys': 31 Lord of the Rings Memes for Fans Quoting LOTR Whenever Possible (February 14, 2026)

Sun, 02/15/2026 - 13:00
Winter has the workforce feeling more burnt out than Frodo at the steps of Mount Doom, trying to remind himself of the taste of food and the feeling of cool grass beneath his hobbit feet.

There's no exhaustion quite like the chronic fatigue of Frodo when he finally reaches the lava field of Mordor. Dragged down by the weight of the One Ring, contemplating his 1800-mile journey, and wishing his destiny would just play out already, Frodo exhibits a moment of pure humanity. Sometimes, it's easy to let the evils, the fatigue, and the adult responsibilities of the world get you down, but unlike Frodo, who literally carried the fate of the world around his neck, LOTR fans simply need to commute to work, finish folding the laundry on the chair, and order takeout for dinner. Our lives are quite simple in comparison.

However, the real difference between Lord of the Rings fans and our 4th favorite hobbit is that we don't have our trusty gardener by our side. Without a faithful friend like Samwise Gamgee (Samwise the Brave), Frodo would have never made it so far as Brie. One step further, Mr. Frodo, and I'll be farther from home than I've ever been. Although the duo became a trio fairly quickly, as Gollum would insist on tagging along, Sam was always by Frodo's side. Even when he wasn't physically there, when Gollum laid a lembas bread trap for him, he was with his boy in spirit. And it's this combination of mental fortitude and Fellowship that brought the Ring all the way to its fate at Mount Doom.

Although Frodo gets a lot of the credit as the Ring Bearer, it was truly Sam who made it all come together. Without Sam, Frodo would still be wrapped up in Shelob's web somewhere, waiting for Gollum to ransack his belongings and steal the corrupting ring. Alas, hobbits are stronger in groups, and Mr. Frodo certainly needed the help of everyone in the Fellowship, including Gandalf, Legolas, Aragorn, Gimli, and even Merry and Pippin. Without his crew of wayward soldiers, the Ring would have never made it.

That's the kind of friendship that LOTR fans seek, and with every rewatch, every quote, and every reminiscent moment spent in the Tolkienverse, they get one step closer.

Employee reveals that company paid $15k to be ranked the 47th Best Place to Work: 'I'm watching people quit in real time while we celebrate our amazing workplace culture'

Sun, 02/15/2026 - 12:00
This company is trying to make everyone believe that it's an amazing place to work, but in reality, there's a steady stream of quitting employees walking out the door.

Any award that can be bought instead of earned shouldn't really be called an "award" in the first place!

This person is seeing firsthand what happens when a company cares more about labels than it does about its employees.

This kind of thing plays out all the time in the corporate world. Like, sometimes a company will do a survey and find out that, surprise surprise, their workers are super burnt out. So they task their employees with doing 10 minutes of deep breathing exercises and schedule a mindfulness workout on a Wednesday afternoon, then call it a win. Will this improve things for workers? Noooo! But will bosses feel excellent about their hard work toward making a better company culture? Oh, they certainly will.

Homeowner fights with HOA after increasing dues despite wasting away $300K without fixing road damage: 'Here's what they HAVEN'T done: fix the road.'

Sun, 02/15/2026 - 11:00
This guy could keep a laundry list of things his HOA has not done for the community… and he did.

After a hurricane caused damage to the roads of this author's community in 2024, the local homeowner's association was given $300,000 to help repair said damage. The author notes that this was over 18 months ago now, and what have they done? Absolutely nothing.

Instead, they have increased monthly dues and continued to issue fine after fine to various residents for bogus reasons to collect more money. Naturally, this infuriated the author, who has committed to fighting them on this issue.

Neighbor trims homeowner's trees, without their permission, while they're away on vacation: ‘[He] may have permanently damaged the trees’

Sun, 02/15/2026 - 10:00
A vacation turns sour when this homeowner returns to his property and notices that his trees are rather bare.

You know that specific post-vacation feeling you get when you're in the car on your way home? You need some familiarity; you've been gone for far too long. That big tree in your backyard isn't only a tree anymore… It's a friend. You can't believe you're thinking this, but you kind of love your little life at home in your little, small, suburban town. Hospitality is hard to find in certain places, but you know you can count on your neighbors to hold down the fort while you're away.

Well… not really. If you're the homeowner who shared this next story with the internet, you will probably never trust a neighbor again. Why do people think it's okay to help themselves to another person's property? If there's something on their property that is obstructing your property, the least you can do is communicate! I think we're all in agreement here: My property is my property is my property.

What should've been a lovely return from vacation for one homeowner turned into a property dispute with their neighbor. The two are arguing about whether the neighbor is wrong for trimming the homeowner's tree branches without asking first. We think it's important to be transparent with people you share property lines with, but that's just us.

This story is a cautionary tale that warns you should never underestimate someone's adoration for their property. Yes, even the weird tree branches that hang from the old tree in their yard. We all have our preferences, and if our neighbors have a problem with our property upkeep, they need to vocalize that instead of taking matters into their own hands. If they don't, they just might have a lawsuit on their hands.
