'I was the only brunette in the room': Work meeting goes wrong after an awkward notification pops up in front of entire team

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 13:00

You had better be careful when you are sharing your screen in a meeting. So many team members eyeballs on you. Too many things that can go wrong… Maybe you are applying to other jobs, and an email notification pops up that invites you over for an interview. Perhaps you paused an intimate conversation you were having with your girlfriend. And maybe, just maybe, you said something you shouldn't about a coworker who is sitting in that very meeting.

In this case, OP took to r/pettyrevenge to describe an awkward encounter during a long and important meeting that took about four hours. Their company was getting a demonstration provided by the account manager for new updates to their software, and seeing as OP had only been using the software for a short amount of time, they had a lot of questions.

Not everyone appreciated their questions, and the meeting soon went south after the person sharing the screen said some things they shouldn't have. Scroll down to find out what, and then check out this employee who broke a company laptop on purpose in hopes she'd get a new one.

CEO's rant causes multiple employees to quit on the spot: 'Only I know how to run this company'

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 12:00

This CEO has never heard of the phrase "teamwork makes the dream work." He seems to think he's the only person in the entire company who knows how things should be done.

People with big egos like that can be really hard to get along with. These people didn't get to be the CEOs and COOs of companies without a little bravado. CEOs aren't exactly known for their willingness to spend time with other employees, either. A lot of them either hide out in their offices with their c-suite pals, or they just never enter the office because they're too busy vacationing for the sixth month in a row. It seems like an easy life, and one that many employees would love to have.

This CEO did actually work with the employees around him, and his terrible attitude got in the way of the company's success. As a startup company, you'd think the team would be used to working together to solve problems as they arise. But the CEO in u/mbilaalch's story couldn't work with anyone else without shouting them down. It sounds like he almost single-handedly made the place very toxic. You can check out the entire story below. Then, check out these workers who got fired for some very silly reasons

Karen has grave misunderstanding, tries to get out of paying for a tombstone: ‘She wants to keep the grave and not pay for it!’

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 11:00

We all want to keep things and not pay for them, but you can't have it both ways. Here, we have a lady who literally tried to argue her way out of having to pay for a recently deceased family member's grave. Her excuse was that she didn't receive an official bill despite signing a collection letter over a month ago declaring when she would send payment.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/EntitledPeople subreddit by u/According-Sugar-520, who we're sure has had to deal with delicate emotional situations in this line of work. However, this one was not exactly the most heartwarming tribute to recently departed family member. As delicate as the situation is, we're still dealing with a customer refusing to pay for a service at the end of the day. Keep scrolling below for the full story and for the best reactions in the comments section. When you're done, check out this funny and petty divorce story.

‘I left his office and laughed’: Employee gets back at micromanager by signing him up for hundreds of mailing lists

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 10:00

There is something about those extremely sophisticated petty revenge stories, that are just so satisfying to read. Because really, all you need in order to get back at someone is just a bit of creativity and courage, and you can get away with the funniest little tricks.

Here is the perfect example of one. This employee told Reddit about how they got back at an unreasonable boss who kept giving employees bad reviews for no reason. Instead of causing a scene, or threatening to quit, OP came up with a petty revenge that would keep them in the clear but will give them enough satisfaction. OP decided to sign up to countless websites and email chains using the boss' email address and then watched as bossman got more and more frustrated by the amount of spam mail he would receive. As I said, the perfect little petty revenge.

'I forced them to cancel my subscription': Customer returns albums filled with cement to get back at record store that locked them into 36 month rolling contract

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 09:00

One record store was no match for a clever young customer who refused to accept that the store tried forcing him into a 36-month contract.

This story took place back in the 1980s when OP was 16. OP signed up to a record club where he received free albums upon signing up, followed by three albums each month that had to be paid for within 30 days. Otherwise, he would have to pay interest. At first, OP was happy, but slowly the quality of the albums he was receiving began to decline. Soon, OP was supposed to be leaving for college, and so he wanted to cancel the subscription.

When he called the company he was informed that he was locked into a 36-month contract… That just didn't sit well with OP. Cue malicious compliance… Scroll down to read all about it, and then check out this engineer who got three days off after his manager demanded he provide a doctor's sick note to work from home.

'I had to keep reminding my boss of our agreement': Employee plans brilliant exit strategy after boss refuses to promote them

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 08:00

If you excel at your work, you might get rewarded with… more work. Such is the way of the world at many workplaces!

Your employer wants you to give 110% at work, and even that is not enough. In fact, some people recommend only ever working to 80% of your capacity to get around this fact. The reward for mediocrity is usually just keeping your job and getting a fine performance review. But if you excel, and you have a hard time saying "no," you may wind up with dozens of extra tasks on your plate.

At some businesses, the extra work is a slow trickle. Your boss might ask you to file some extra papers each week, or to start sending outreach emails to a dozen more clients every day. Once you've succeeded at that, they have a few more things for you to do. That slow trickle is often your boss offloading their chores onto you and calling it delegation. Even as the employee becomes increasingly more stressed out, they can't walk back their original agreement without their boss looking at them funny. It doesn't always have to be a loss, though. If your employer is good enough to give you a raise or a promotion, it can all be worth it in the end.

This person has realized that through first-hand experience, and I wish them well as they embark on their well-executed plan! Check out the whole story below. And after that, check out these extremely satisfying times people got to say no

'Pay up': Client refuses to pay catering service, leaving company with $2000 expenses, client demands they cater another event

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 07:00

The food sector is fast-paced, exact, competitive, inventive, and, let's face it, merciless. Like any industry, there are benefits as well as drawbacks. Still, do you think it's a field worth getting into?

Below is the tale of a caterer who can meet a wide range of dietary needs. As a result, the majority of the customers they serve ask for professionally prepared menu items. The business was doing well and everything was going smoothly until one day a new customer, a group that supports food allergies, placed an order for a vegan and nut-free supper.

The meal and food were prepared ahead of time by the catering service. However, after what seemed to be a wonderful occasion, the customer refused to pay when it came time to be reimbursed, leaving the firm with an out-of-pocket charge of $2,000.  Even though he had initially refused to pay, the customer was interested in scheduling another event that yet again catered to hundreds of various dietary restrictions

As you may have predicted by now, the company, instead of caving into the demanding customer, came up with a crafty plan to exact revenge! So, if you're curious about how OP and the business got their revenge, be sure to check out the story below! And when you're through, don't forget to read the story of the art student who, after six months of being picked on, gets even with his teacher!

Guy sells grandma a used car, grandkids trick him into quitting his job for a fake one: 'Should have done your due diligence'

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 06:00

Few things are more sinister, in an everyday sort of way, than those people who try to pass damaged goods off as being without problem, preying on the trusting, unsuspecting, or unlucky in order to turn an incredibly unscrupulous profit. These used car sellers, house flippers, and scam artists can be found hiding in plain sight—trying to pass some painted cabinets, cheap laminate wood flooring, and a sloppier paint job off as a "full renovation"—or selling a car "without issue" on Marketplace or other private sales forums.

These people then have the gall to blame their victim for not doing their "due diligence" when their duplicity comes to light, acting as if their anti-social behavior is acceptable just because they're probably going to get away with it. There's often little recourse if they're technically not breaking the law or if a lawsuit isn't an option, leaving the person stuck with a costly lesson about the lengths the greedy will go to turn a profit.

When a dishonest private seller sold their grandmother a faulty used vehicle, she was left without recourse. So, her grandkids stepped to even the score, tricking him into quitting his job by offering him a position that didn't exist.

‘I did not indulge her insanity. So she quit’: 15 times coworkers, neighbors, and roommates let their enemies make colossal mistakes

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 05:00

Sure, it's practically a universal truth that everyone makes mistakes, but some people don't necessarily deserve to be helped when those mistakes occur. Some people certainly would not return the favor if the roles were reversed. Some coworkers, neighbors, roommates, and authority figures have shown you no generosity. In fact, they may have shown you quite the opposite. So why do you have to go out of your way to save them for their own errors?

This collection of stories was compiled from the following r/AskReddit thread, and these anecdotes range in place from the office to customer service environments to shared apartment spaces. Regardless of the setting, these folks showed no mercy when it came to pointing out the mistakes made by their enemies. Keep scrolling below for the full stories. When you're done, check out this list of satisfying quitting stories where entire teams walked out.

New manager fires worker for calling out sick: 'Best of luck'

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 04:00

You're going to get sick. It's just going to happen—even those of us with an immunity of iron are eventually going to catch a stray bug that puts us down for a couple of days. Undoubtedly, even when the business moguls of the world manage to replace us with a bunch of robots, they're going to be sorely disappointed when those robots have glitches, bugs, and viruses that cause inevitable downtime.

'She wanted me gone but got fired instead': IT employee refuses to fix demanding coworker's computer so she turns to upper management to get him fired

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 15:00

IT people really have it hard out there. It is a genuine surprise how they manage to keep a civil conversation with people while having to fix their constant silly tech problems they could have fixed themselves in less them two minutes. Honestly, the term 'Technophobic' has lost all meaning when you hear what people need help with. No ma'am, you are not technophobic, you are simply too lazy to learn. And why would you learn if all you have to do to fix your tiny problem is to call the IT person so they would fix it for you?

I wholeheartedly salute those who have to deal with these kinds of people on a daily basis. Like the IT person in this Reddit story who had to deal with a woman who for months kept complaining about a problem with logging in to her computer, when in reality, she just kept accidentally pressing the CapsLock key. Then, when she came up to OP for the 100th time and got mad when they asked her the check the CapsLock again, OP finally said to her what she really needed to hear, and perhaps risked their job in the process.

'[He] has been fired for stealing pancakes': 30 Foolish reasons workers got fired

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 12:00

You can push the limits all you want, but you'd better be prepared for the consequences.

Some people work at the same place for so long that they get a little too comfortable. They start to feel immune to workplace rules and regulations. If you catch them bending the rules, they'll probably just give you a wink and a nudge because they think the higher-ups will have their back. Having friends in high places does help, certainly. But some people get fired for the silliest reasons anyway. For one example, a worker was fired for plugging her phone into her computer after being repeatedly warned not to. Sure, that seems like a very dumb reason to get the boot, but there were security protocols being broken. Other people who replied to this question had some way more shocking reasons they were let go. People shared stories of reasons they or their coworkers were let go in response to u/qwerty_sux's question, "What is the dumbest reason why someone at your workplace got fired?" A lot of the time the employees were clearly at fault, but sometimes the companies were just being very strict about their workplace rules.

After you read through these strange and hilarious stories, read about the exact opposite scenario: these workers shared the reasons they quit their terrible jobs on the spot

'Please pick up after your dog': Neighbor feud escalates from petty signs to lawn sabotage

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 11:00

Who doesn't love to sit back and watch drama unfold when you personally are unaffected by all of it? Well, at least for now. Who knows how these two neighbors plan to escalate their feud after all these shenanigans? Maybe the Redditor will have to get out of their front-row seat and actually pick a side?

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/pettyrevenge subreddit by u/coralcoast21, who watched their neighbors start from a petty place of putting up passive-aggressive signs on their lawns to leaving dog baggies full of you-know-what all over the place. That last move definitely crossed a line for many of the folks in the comments section and left several wondering how much worse this can get.

Keep scrolling below for the full play-by-play. When you're done, feel free to take a look at this post about a petty exchange between a student and their professor.

'I woke up in combat mode': Teenager gets zonked on anesthesia after getting their wisdom teeth removed, hilarity ensues

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 10:00

For some, getting your wisdom teeth removed is a painless experience marked by silly post-op videos, a drooly chin, and chipmunk cheeks. But for others who wake up from an anesthesia nightmare, the dental office becomes an imaginary war zone. No matter which way you slice it, going to the dentist is tedious and a little traumatizing– however, for u/1ithe, a teenaged girl with the 'metabolism of a hummingbird', her routine wisdom teeth removal surgery turned into an episode of Rick and Morty immediately after she was knocked out, largely because she was never fully unconscious.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I woke up halfway through the procedure. My eyes darted around the room, I panic-mumbled for help, and the dental assistant cursed under his breath before double-tapping me with whatever juice knocks you out. After the procedure, I awoke with a sinking fear in my stomach, panic-stricken tears on my face, and a very worried dentist looking down at me. Everyone has their own wisdom teeth removal story, and I used to think that mine was as bad as it gets… That is until I read about the hilariously traumatic tales from OP in our next story.

Scroll for a dental experience that trumps any of your worst experiences in the dentist's chair, while making you chuckle at the same time.

‘A little motherly malicious compliance never hurt anyone': New mom gets back at relentless MIL who keeps waking up the baby during nap time

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 09:00

There are many new routines you have to get used to when you have a new baby in your life. Your sleeping schedule, eating, traveling, working, and, well, everything. A baby is completely helpless and you have to basically do everything for it. So of course that is going to change your life completely. New parents are made aware of this these days and know that they are making a life-altering decision by having a kid. And mothers who were never warned about this and had to figure it out as they went should know and be empathetic towards women trying to handle this new life change. Unfortunately, for Reddit user ConflictActive222, her mother-in-law did not have the compassion and empathy you would think a fellow mother would have.

'Actually, I don't need the job anymore': 15+ Times people got to say 'no' for the most satisfying reasons

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 08:00

Saying no is an important skill to learn in life. It takes practice: it can be way easier to instantly say yes to whatever people ask you to do. Especially if you're a people-pleaser, you probably know the pressure of feeling like you have to agree to every request people throw at you. Maybe it's your boss asking if you can stay late at work on a Friday, even though you see him waltzing out of the office at 4 PM. Or perhaps your ex-partner keeps trying to get you back in their life, and you keep agreeing, even though it never really works out for you in the end. And parents know the pressure, too---their kids' schools constantly ask for volunteers to bake food or chaperone trips, and parents feel obligated to agree.

Learning to say no can be difficult at first, because people you care about might be disappointed or hurt. But after some practice, saying no to things feels like a superpower. Once you learn how to protect your peace and choose what's right for yourself, it opens up a whole world of possibilities. The people below had some awesome tales of times like these. They answered the question, "What's the most satisfying "no" you've ever given?" People shared workplace incidents, relationship stories, and more.

Up next, this dude shares a driveway with his neighbors, but they're totally fine with letting him shovel snow for hours while they remain cozied up indoors.

'She was livid': Woman fills apartment with carnivorous plants to spite her vegan roommate

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 07:00

Not all vegans out there subscribe to the stereotype of the intense activists who try to force others into their beliefs. However, as you probably know, there are exceptions. Take the case of a woman who shared an apartment with her vegan roommate. Initially, their relationship was cordial; the OP respected her roommate's dietary choices, and there was no awkward tension between the two.

But things quickly did a 180. After attending a conference on veganism, the roommate became one of those zealous activists, relentless in her mission to convert the OP to the world to veganism. Unable to bear her roommate's longwinded rants, the OP found herself sneaking out of the apartment early in the morning just to enjoy her eggs in solitude, free from her roommate's guilt-inducing lectures claiming that she's evil.

With the end of their lease nearing, the OP decided it was time for a bit of playful revenge on her overly enthusiastic, plant-loving roommate. Keep reading to see what went down.

‘[Don’t] even look in my general direction’: Entitled sister-in-law enforces petty rules after couple moves in, malicious compliance ensues

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 05:00

It's remarkable how immature fully grown adults can be when they are forced to share space. What's even more remarkable is that none of the three adults in this scenario can afford their own places. Our condolences to the poor parents who have to hear all this squabbling from these literal children who refuse to grow up.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/KingQuenchie, who never seemed to get along with their future sister-in-law. Matters were made worse when they all ended up having to live together, and the very particular sister-in-law started to enforce a list of ridiculous rules. We're not just talking about respectful matters like cleaning up after yourself. We're talking about refusing to acknowledge one another's mere existence.

Keep scrolling below to see how OP decided to move forward with some well-deserved malicious compliance. For more stories like this, here is a collection of satisfying quitting stories.

Worker asked to train their replacement, plots their next move: 'How do I sabotage it?'

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 04:00

Getting fired from your job stinks—there's really no way around it. Even if you hate your job with a burning passion, the sudden loss of employment and security is nearly impossible to get past easily. But, while getting fired already isn't an ideal scenario, being asked to train the person who is sure to become your replacement is undoubtedly worse. When you're suddenly asked to write a process to document the ins and outs of your position, or your company suddenly hires or promotes someone to "work with you" when you know there's no need for two people to be doing your job—you know you're in dangerous waters. At least—at the very least—this gives you a heads-up that you're about to be let go and lets you plan your next move.

That's exactly what happened when this worker was asked to write a document that would be used to train a new team lead who would be hired into a role that was synonymous with their own. Instead of complying, they turned to this popular online community to ask other members of the community what their next move should be…

38 Spitfire Memes to Send to Your Favorite Coworker

Sat, 02/03/2024 - 16:00

They say the grass is always greener on the other side, but when you're a working-class employee looking through the glass ceiling at your useless CEO's designer shoes, it's hard to resist the allure of infinite wealth in exchange for a 10-hour workweek. Although most of us aren't slogging hours at the mines like our predecessors, there's still something off-putting about a 40-hour work week for meager pay. With only two weekend days to live a regular life and be a human being, can't you argue that your work persona is more dominant? If you've ever worked retail or customer service, your work personality persisting much longer than your clocked-in hours is a little unsettling.

Riddle me this– but what if we harnessed our inner CEO? Clock in, gossip with your favorite coworker a little (shareholders), and then send a mass email to an overflowing email inbox saying, 'Let's circle back to this next quarter!' What a life that would be...

So take a 10-minute break, scroll through some memes, and make sure to use the bathroom as often as possible while you're on company time.
