Group project slackers shocked to receive failing grade, while their hard-working teammates performed well: 'I got an A in the class'

Wed, 04/17/2024 - 11:00

Everyone's greatest fear when it comes to working on a group project is the group of people with whom you'll be working. If you're a type A person, you will likely fear having to do all of the work yourself. If you're a slacker, you will likely wonder how much you can get away with based on the work ethic of your partners. The unfortunate reality is that no matter where you fall on the scale of teacher's pet to slacker, group projects are not exactly thrilling for you no matter what.

Here, we have a rare instance in which a professor listened to the students who had been putting in all of the work and chose not to let them suffer because their team members shirked all of their responsibilities throughout the semester. Keep scrolling below to see what happened when these lazy college students learned that they were not, in fact, getting the same grades as their hard-working teammates. For more stories like this, check out this post about a teacher's epic payback on a group of slackers during Senior Ditch Day.

20+ Funniest AI Memes for Those Who Check the 'I'm not a robot' Box

Wed, 04/17/2024 - 10:00

Some people work in jobs that are simply too important to be replaced by AI, and some people work in jobs that they absolutely know AI can do much better. Nurses are probably always going to be human (but who knows), but a content writer who writes about funny memes on the internet? well…

Okay but, with all seriousness, even though AI still has a way to go (I tried getting ChatGPT to write the previous paragraph and it was not pretty), the future is still unclear with how much AI will be able to do, and how it will affect people's livelihood. People are already using it to create art, make entire films, do their homework, and write their codes, we are becoming more and more dependent on this tool, and that gives it a lot more power.

One thing that AI still does terribly, is create memes, so that is not what is waiting for you down below. Instead, scroll down to enjoy some hilarious memes about AI that were created by humans. After you finish with those, click here to read a story about a contractor who caused property damage that cost $100,000.

'Never paid a cent': Witty student calls the university's bluff, breaking the parking permit system by refusing to pay for tickets

Wed, 04/17/2024 - 09:00

Parking permits are a scam in college. Schools know that broke students are barely scraping together enough pocket change to eat instant noodles every night, so why not squeeze out an extra $300 per semester to allow them to park on campus? Clearly, it's a luxury to park your car half a league from your classroom, but not one that every student can afford.

Especially the sophomore in our next story.

After having car troubles and dumping their grocery fund into their fixer-upper vehicle, the last thing on their mind was paying for a parking permit. However, the fear of campus police and another target on their back financially, u/Bwendolyn was in a bind. Should they pay hundreds to register their car for a permit? Or risk a parking ticket?

Eventually, this particularly witty student found a hole in the school's permitting armor when they discovered that once you receive a parking ticket on campus, there's really no accountability to get it paid for unless your car is registered. Curiooous.

Keep scrolling to read the entire story of how a young, broke college student outwitted their university, scoring free parking for 4 years simply by being audacious.

20+ Overcooked and majorly messy food fails

Wed, 04/17/2024 - 08:00

Food fails happen to all of us at some point. At least, I hope they do. I burnt an entire tray of bacon yesterday, and I'm a perfectly good chef who's nearly 30 years old.

I put some bacon in the oven for 14 minutes at 400 degrees, thanks to the fastest Google search results. I was also making some scrambled eggs and pancakes at the same time, and, because I live my life on hard mode apparently, frantically waving a blanket in front of the fire alarm every minute or two. Lately, the fire alarm goes off every single time I cook. I don't know why (yes, I did clean my oven. Like three times. It didn't help). It's making my life super annoying, and my bacon inedible. C'est la vie or whatever.

Anyway, the fire alarm still went off the whole time, even as I waved a blanket in front of it constantly. My eggs were okay, my pancakes were edible, and my bacon was a lost cause. This was a full tray of blackened bacon turned to charcoal. I guess I left it in for too long. That's what I get for not going to the local diner, where the professionals would cook the same brunch, but make it one hundred times more scrumptious.

The people below may also be perfectly good chefs who can't catch a break. Some of them burnt their food pretty badly, while others tried new dishes and did not succeed. Next time I burn something, I'll try and remember to take a photo of it to add to the list of fails! You can check 'em all out below.

Then, read about this dude who's trying to stop their friend from naming another of their children after Pokemon characters.

New boss experiences consequences when multiple members of their team quit simultaneously: 'I'm giving my notice the next day I work'

Wed, 04/17/2024 - 07:00

There's no surer sign that you might need to reassess your leadership "style" than having multiple people opt out, in quick succession, of being under that leadership. After all, as the old adage famously goes, "People don't quit jobs; they quit bosses." There's no telling the level of miserable or monotonous job conditions some people will put up with just as long as they enjoy working with the people in their immediate team—especially their managers. Good managers are hard to come by, so when you find one that makes the working week tolerable, you'll be more reluctant to leave even if your remuneration hasn't kept up with the industry standard or inflation.

Of course, this can take a turn for the worse when your beloved boss tells you they're leaving, putting the team in a precarious position of possibly ending up under the thumb of an egomaniac who is desperate to prove their authority and cares not for interpersonal relationships with their team.

That's essentially what happened when a new Director of Nursing started at the nursing home where this CNA worked. The new director quickly proved that she had little tact when it came to dealing with staff concerns, bringing changes that meant worse working conditions and treatment of the staff. But you can only push people so far before they abandon ship, and the director quickly found herself understaffed as more and more staff handed in their notice. The original poster of this thread reports that they, too, will soon hand their notice in, bringing the director one step closer to manning the entire ship alone without a crew.

A Time Capsule of 28 Nostalgic Memes to Transport 80s Kids Back to an Era Before Cell Phones

Wed, 04/17/2024 - 06:00

Before social media, the only way to tell where your friends were was to ride around your neighborhood looking for the largest stash of bikes parked on someone's lawn. Once you found a heaping pile of junkyard bicycles, you were in the right place.

There's something special and quaint about a time before the Internet. We played outside and scraped our knees. We climbed trees and curfew was when the streetlights came on. We weren't constantly inundated by ads, we could trust things at face value, and the only spam we got was ringing off the hook through the family landline. Life was simpler then.

You could drink the hose water, candy was shaped like cigarettes, and nobody second-guessed that 6" long carpet. So if you're looking for a captivating snapshot of nostalgia, keep scrolling down to enjoy a bologna post-pool sandwich full of chips, and wash it down with this collection of nostalgic memes.

'Our HOA got sued for having a homeowner remove their wheelchair ramp': Top HOA Stories of the Week (April 17, 2024)

Wed, 04/17/2024 - 05:00

Why would anyone want to be an HOA board member? That's just a one-way ticket to immediately becoming one of the most disliked people in the neighborhood.

I'm convinced that some people in this world would rather be in the most unnecessary, fake position of power, even if it meant making all the enemies. We feel this even at a young age when classmates try to hog the playground and assume some sort of faux position of power. This also applies to the annoying teacher's pets in school and your high school class president.

Well, unfortunately, this dynamic has managed to graduate to the homeowner level, but who isn't surprised here? Bossy people are going to find any way imaginable to be bossy at all stages of life. That is certainly not going to change any time soon, at least as long as these HOAs exist. Keep scrolling below for these top HOA horror stories. Clever employee beats micromanager at her own play of power, micromanager caves to employees request to work from home

Wed, 04/17/2024 - 04:00

There are a few key elements to take into account when searching for a job. The salary is undoubtedly the first, followed by the employees in second place, and the boss in third.

The story below is an account of a frustrated and underappreciated employee. The Original Poster (OP) had worked for the same business for a considerable amount of time. OP enjoyed his job and loved his manager. However, as luck would have it, OP's manager resigned to pursue greater opportunities, and the manager appointed to take over for the amazing boss, was completely different from the prior manager in terms of her attitude, mannerisms, and strategic thinking.

So, be sure to read the story below if you're curious about what happened when the new hire showed up and whether or not OP succumbed to her ridiculous play of power! After you've finished reading, don't forget to check out the story of the mechanic who, after receiving orders to level the field 'no matter what', bulldozes an entire field and destroys army infrastructure!

30+ DIY blunders that are alright just as long as you don't look hard enough (April 16, 2024)

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 16:00

Sometimes in life, you give something your best shot, and sometimes that's still not enough. And that's just the way it goes. You're not going to be good at everything you try, and—heck, who is good at something on the first try anyway? Being good at something isn't always what it's about, which is something that we tend to forget in this era of side hustling and generally monitoring and capitalizing on everything we do.

As Kurt Vonnegut was (supposedly)  told, by his (supposed) own account, when he was 15 years old, "I don't think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you've got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them."

And those are some words to live by. Of course, there are times when being good at something is important; those times tend to occur when safety is of concern… especially when you're endangering other people's safety along with your own. Yeah, doing and trying different things makes you an interesting person, but like the people in the collection of posts below, it might not be for the reasons you're expecting. These posts were gathered (mostly) from a popular online community in which users share various different hacks, bodges, and other DIY monstrosities they've seen online and in real life that are "mint" as long as you "squint."

'There is no way': Pokemon inspired baby-names start dispute between friend and expectant mother

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 14:00

A little bit of fandom-inspired baby naming has caused a rift in this friend group.

In the past, some parents would test out potential baby names by yelling them out the front door a few times. (Parents used to call their kids home for dinner while the kids were out in the neighborhood playing with friends). If you felt weird shouting the name out the door, you'd know that wasn't the right moniker for your baby.

The modern-day equivalent might include a few more stop-gaps. You should absolutely Google your baby's new name, just in case that name has already been taken by someone unsavory. And you could also consider what happens when you type your kiddo's name. As this person shared, their friend wants to name their kid after a Pokemon… and the name autocorrects to "respiratory." Whoops!

Some commenters noted that even if you're a diehard Pokemon fan, there are humans in the show that you could name your kid after! Ash, Jesse, Brock, or May are all pretty normal names for kids. Even though your kids Pokemon name might sound cute while they're a little baby, by the time they're old enough to explain their name to other kids, they'll be known as the "Pokemon kid" everywhere they go. Then, they'll grow up and start dating, going to job interviews, and just living life as a 30-year-old named after a Pokemon. Well-meaning as it might be, you just know these two kiddos are going to change their names to something inconspicuous, like Zach and Rita, after a lifetime of Pokemon jokes.

Top 20 Unintentionally Hilarious Signs of the Week (April 16, 2024)

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 13:00

Life is full of surprises, changes, and unintentionally hilarious signs. People often say if you look carefully enough, there is beauty and levity everywhere. That may be true depending on your perspective and mentality, but one could also amend that statement to say that if you look carefully enough, you will find joy in humanity. Today when we say humanity, we specifically are referring to man's capacity for human error. Nowhere is that more obvious than man-made signs.

These signs could be found on a highway, outside a store, on a menu, or even a post-it note in your office. Regardless of whatever type of sign you're dealing with, if a human made it, there is a chance you will come across a laughable mistake or some kind of dramatic irony. The humor we experience when we come across these errors reminds us that even the signs we make that are intended to enforce rules can be unintentionally hilarious.

20+ People who are struggling to sell mirrors

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 12:00

How does one photograph a mirror? It's not hard if you use your imagination, like these folks did.

Maybe you're thinking to yourself, "Ha! How hard could it be to photograph a mirror? Just point your phone or camera and snap away. Duh." Mmm okay sure, in theory, that can work. But go ahead and try to photograph the nearest mirror to you, and see how well you do at the task. Chances are, you are in the photo. The room around you and all the clutter it contains are caught in the picture as well. The only way to get yourself out of the photo is to find just the right angle… and that doesn't really show off the actual mirror very well. So then, seller, how do you proceed?

Check out all of the options below. Some people try to camouflage themselves with blankets. Others grab a nearby friend for a helping hand. And we even have one repeat seller who brings their pug along for each picture! It's a delightful look at the funny and sweet nature of people who are just trying to sell things online, even if they're not 100% sure how to do it.

'It is my turn to be selfish': Top 15 wedding debacles featuring bridezillas, entitled couples, and needy family members

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 11:00

Not every wedding is a dream come true. In fact, rarely can events that simultaneously cause so much stress and anxiety result in a blissful moment. At the end of the day, much of the reasoning behind this is our own fault. Culturally, we put way too much emphasis on the need to have the perfect time at your wedding while making both parties equally happy. It's an impossible task, so why do we keep doing this to ourselves?

These folks understand all too well that weddings are just as likely to spin out of control as they are to go your way. Unfortunately, those involved discovered this reality after the fact. Some of these fiascos include a kid who refused to attend the wedding in anything other than a lion's outfit, a couple who insisted all guests give gifts over $250, and a guy who arranged for a literal llama to be present at his sister's wedding. Is that not the ultimate revenge?

'You dug that hole yourself’: Contractor works on resident's property without permission, creating damage that costs $100,000

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 10:00

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. So if one messes things up, one is probably going to have to face the consequences, that is simply how the world works, although there aren't many people who actually live by those rules.

Many people in this Reddit story had to face the consequences of their actions, and not all of them did such a great job. First, there was the terrible neighbor who started the whole drama simply by being a terrible neighbor, but also because he ordered a contractor to to work on a property that wasn't his. Then, there was the contractor himself, who even though he knew he was working illegally on private property, still kept going. And lastly, there was the county, who refused to do anything about the illegal work and refused to listen to reason.

All these people got what they deserved, so scroll down to read the full story. After that, click here for a story of employees who refused to accept a bonus from their boss.

‘I cleaned the printer, now it won’t print': Employee calls tech support to inform them printer stopped working, IT discovers printer is completely soaked

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 09:00

You are typing away, your keyboard going clickety-clack as your fingers fly across the different buttons. When you look down, you notice that your keyboard is a little bit dusty. Hmmm, that's not right. You guess it's time to deep clean it. How do you go about it? Well, probably not the way this employee did.

One tech support worker took to r/talesfromtechsupport after they got an unusual call regarding a printer. Apparently, the printer wasn't working, but it had been just before. So IT sauntered in, only to find the display completely dark. It was indeed, not working. After a careful evaluation of the situation, it became very clear what had happened. The person who complained about it also happened to be the person who had last seen the printer up and running. Scroll down to read the hilarious series of events and then check out these wholesome posts for overworked employees who are in dire need of a vacation.

35+ Perilous pickup trucks and messed up Mustangs that shouldn't be on the road

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 08:00

These car mods did not turn out as intended.

Some people get a car and have big ideas in their head about it. So what if the car is 20 years old and barely starts? That's just the starting point, and with the right bells and whistles, soon it becomes a 20-year-old car that's also loud and flashy.

Lots of car enthusiasts want their cars to be souped up, but they don't have the cash to spend thousands doing it. So some of these people take matters into their own hands. They decide to DIY a car renovation, and the results look… well… you can see them for yourself down below!

I'm always fascinated by Franken-cars, like the ones at #4, #20, and #22. The more cars smushed into one, the better. I love to see a Franken-vehicle that's a mini-van on the front half, and a truck of some sort in the back. You can tell that the driver needs enough seats to take the kids and their friends to soccer practice, while also carrying some bags of mulch or some 2x4s. They have lots of places to be, and lots of items to bring along. They're thinking big, and not letting either the laws of physics or the aesthetics of the car stop them from achieving their dreams.

Next up, when a Florida couple was impolite towards this employee, they got to leave the couple stranded.

'They lost the $1.2M funding too': Fired employee asked to write instruction manual for their future replacement with "zero experience," so they write it in insultingly simple terms

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 07:00

In writing, both for entertainment and for technical purposes, it's important that your reader be able to comprehend the meaning of your words. For example, if you happen to be writing a snazzy and engaging introduction to a discussion about a story that someone shared online, it would be foolish to begin using words that your reader is likely not to understand. In fact, it would be perspicacious for the author to eschew using a myriad of archaic verbiage that obfuscates the meaning of what they're trying to portray to their audience.

Of course, as with everything in life, there's a balance to be struck, and it's easy to go too far in the other direction to a point where your writing begins sounding like one of those books you read in the first grade… The writer writes well. The writer writes good words. People enjoy reading the writer's words. The writer's words are easy to read. Yeah, you get tired of it pretty quickly. Like I said, there's a balance.

Well, when the survival of your company is dependent on a bunch of descriptive words that other people can read and comprehend in order to replicate essential processes or procedures, it's important that the line of simplistic yet descriptive be tread very carefully.

When this worker was asked to write a technical instruction manual for the role that they were being fired from, the stipulation was that it be written at a level that someone with "zero experience" could understand. They decided to write it at such an insultingly simple level that it probably wouldn't be all that helpful to anyone at all. Hey, at least they tried… Right?

Mechanic bulldozes entire field, taking down army infrastructure after commanding officer orders him to level field 'no matter what'

Tue, 04/16/2024 - 06:00

It is crucial that you communicate your expectations to everyone around you. Having said that, as someone who always says what they mean and means what they say, in the event that you were given an order by superiors, would you simply follow it without question or would you make an effort to comprehend the reasoning behind it to prevent future annoyances?

The story below tells the tale of a clever transport officer who, although fully aware that he is setting himself up for failure, opts to follow his lieutenant's commands. The grandfather of the Original Poster (OP) was a transport officer in the Royal Australian Air Force. In order to prepare for an exercise, a lieutenant orders OP's grandfather to level the field that they were on with a bulldozer. Initially, the grandfather attempts to explain to the lieutenant that his training only covers upkeep and not the actual operation of the bulldozer. However, the lieutenant was unreceptive to arguments and was certain that the grandfather should resolve the matter. So, after trying several times to reason with the commander,  the grandfather ultimately decided to follow instructions and pray for the best possible outcome.

Having said that, be sure to read the story below if you're interested in learning what transpired after OP's grandfather started leveling the field! Additionally, after you've finished reading, don't forget to check out the story about the client who gets even with the contractor who ripped him off for $2000 by sending him job sites that don't exist, costing him $15,000!
